Excellent review!!! Our favorite so far.
Good morning! Mom has a gardening question. Her lettuce is still growing beautifully which, if you know our mom’s love of fresh-grown loose leaf lettuce, you know makes her dance Kat’s jig. She has a cold frame over it. This morning, it is still 28 degrees here. Almost perfect Husky weather. Her question is this…on a workday, they would have had to open that up already, or else let it closed all day. It is zipped up plastic, so it should have a greenhouse effect. Do you think it is better to keep it closed in that case?
9:04 am on October 26th, 2013
Gooood morning, everyone! Gosh OH, ya’ll beat us to the punch. Not only did we have fun reading this review, enjoying it thoroughly, we felt it was a literate insightful 2 legger writing…what a surprise! OH: as to your lettuce problem…lettuce is a cool weather crop that will bolt if too warm. If the day will warm up above the 40’s, perhaps the frame should be opened. Hope all under the quillt are doing good and the rest are tip top.
Let’s all remember: “Saturday night’s all right!” (la, la, la, la, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo , doo, doo).
9:09 am on October 26th, 2013
Thanks, HOH. The cold frame is teepee shaped, so we can also just open up the front that faces the sun. We will do that on iffy days. So far, we will be having 50s and 60s for daytime highs.
Pop is getting us a dehydrator so hecan make us our very own jerky from our super fabulous beef!!!!!
9:18 am on October 26th, 2013
That is a well-written review. I like the part about Chet describing “odors in a manner akin to a wine connoisseur.”
Good morning all.
9:33 am on October 26th, 2013
If I was not already a ravid Chet and Bernie fan, I would read that book described in the review.
I want a sheatshirt about C&B!
O’Howlers, will you ask your Pa what, if any, seasonings he will use on your jerky?
9:49 am on October 26th, 2013
Melanie, He doesn’t know yet. When the dehydrator arrives (Prime so we should get it Monday or Tuesday), we will be perusing the recipes in the book. We Howlers are not big into spices.
10:25 am on October 26th, 2013
Loved the review. We agree that it was very well written. And the person writing had a good grasp of the Chet persona. We love the way he describes Bernie’s and Suzie’s scent. He does sound like a wine connoisseur.
Lettuce – it is definitely a cool/cold weather crop. Our leaf lettuce is still OK and we have not covered it. We have had temps down in the upper 20s and it has survived. We would go with uncovering it before you leave in the morning.
11:04 am on October 26th, 2013
Thanks, B&M. Lettuce will only be covered at night now. Mom is hoping to have lettuce the rest of the year. We’ll see.
Off to Saturday chores now, and they are going to a wedding afterwards.
11:08 am on October 26th, 2013
Morning all –
Off to the clay place. Woo hooo.
Melanie – did we miss something about a sweatshirt?
11:32 am on October 26th, 2013
Se like sweatshirts. What?
11:40 am on October 26th, 2013
Gah! Letters too close…WE like sweatshirts. Is Melanie planning something?
11:55 am on October 26th, 2013
Morning all.
Best review yet. I, too, like that she mentioned the “snakey, froggy, lizardy with a touch of peppery and poopy” smell. Spence managed to make this “wine connoisseur” description humorous and suspenseful at the same time.
Melanie: Sweatshirt or cheatsheet?
Go Nana!
I need coffee.
11:59 am on October 26th, 2013
No hints or cheat sheets. Just wishing.
Finished winterizing the family room. Resting now.
Wish I could drink coffee.
12:13 pm on October 26th, 2013
Live dangerously, Melanie. Have a half a cup of coffee.
12:21 pm on October 26th, 2013
I would buy a Chet and Bernie sweatshirt for mom. (not in black)
I agree, best review yet of TSATF.
I hope we hear something today about how Nana is doing.
12:28 pm on October 26th, 2013
Melanie: Do not have a cup of coffee!
12:28 pm on October 26th, 2013
Melanie: Not even half a cup!
1:22 pm on October 26th, 2013
My Two-legged thinks she remembers Melanie having had some coffee when are visited. She say Melanie was up and at ’em with everyone until late.
The world is as it should be. My Two-legged and the Giant are together and I got snuggles and tummies this morning. Does it get any better than this? You tell me.
1:46 pm on October 26th, 2013
Belle: You are one lucky gal. Dog is in the heaven and all is right in the world!
1:47 pm on October 26th, 2013
Smooches for Nana!
2:00 pm on October 26th, 2013
HRH B: Just thinking…in the Shakespeare plays, is there ever a dog involved?
2:18 pm on October 26th, 2013
SnowBella&AJ: Do you have the whole weekend together?
O’Howlers: My neighbor was showing me her spinach yesterday, still growing in a pot on her deck even though we’ve had several minor freezes. Snow possible today, drizzling now.
2:45 pm on October 26th, 2013
No coffee here. Having a cup of calming tea after being foolish.
Me, foolish? Snort. I have done too much winterizing and decided that sure,I could walk my entire walk today. Yeah, right.
We have nice neighbors. As I was holding up an electrical pole (leaning on it) one of our neighbors came out and asked if I needed a ride home. I burst into tears. I got a ride and am now not moving for the rest of the day.
I brought my strawberries in and put them in the shed. They still are getting ripe strawberries.
2:49 pm on October 26th, 2013
2 Dogs are involved!
I am now in charge of the 2 Standard poodles that live next door. Wait! Who’s the boss?
The man in this house just got irritated at me because he was blabbing on and on about pennies and I was ignoring him to post on this blog. “I should just get on Chet’s blog and then you’d think the subject was interesting” says he. Heh, heh.
We are going to the library.
3:01 pm on October 26th, 2013
Maybe he was right! Heh, heh.
3:11 pm on October 26th, 2013
HOH: I had to look it up. There is a dog (named Crab but the breed isn’t mentioned) in Shakespeare’s Two Gentlemen of Verona. The dog belongs to Launce, the clown/servant.
3:22 pm on October 26th, 2013
Need to be able to name some groups of ghosts, monsters, or sci fi robots?
This is for you . .
3:33 pm on October 26th, 2013
I think A Coven of Witches is the only thing on that entire list that we have ever heard of. I like a Tizzy of Fairies.
3:35 pm on October 26th, 2013
A hustle of Brownies is interesting, and about the Lawn of Gnomes – is that why people put them on their lawns?
3:50 pm on October 26th, 2013
A Percussion of Giants. My feet can feel them coming coming . .
I also like “A Swarm of Nanites”, “A Calvary of Valkyries”, and “A Snarl of Minotaurs”. Actually like most of them.
4:09 pm on October 26th, 2013
HRH B: Mom thinks that is the only one, juwt wanted to double check.
4:19 pm on October 26th, 2013
They are back from the wedding, and in sweats. Drinking chai latte. Then they are bringing the horses in and feeding them and us us us. O.K. only us and us since Dima is on the wagon food-wise again.
This evening, they go to the wedding reception, which is Halloween themed. The ‘rents did not know that until a week ago, and they aren’t sure what they are wearing. Mom borrowed a witch hat with purple hair. Other than that, no idea yet.
4:28 pm on October 26th, 2013
We saw a cute “costume” idea on the Today show. Take an umbrella, attach (somehow) stuffed kitties and puppies. Tell peeps that it is raining cats and dogs.
4:33 pm on October 26th, 2013
Great idea, Macy! That way i can go along to the reception.
4:38 pm on October 26th, 2013
Ummmm – Kat? We don’t think she meant the puppies would be stuffed with SlimJims
4:40 pm on October 26th, 2013
Got glow sticks?
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GkBDRUO8hAo
4:59 pm on October 26th, 2013
The rain just turned to snow.
O’Howlers: I always went as a hobo because it was easy. I did have some “tooth out” that made it look like you were missing teeth but otherwise you just wear grubby worn jeans and shirt, dirty old hat and old shoes and a bandanna tied to a stick. Oh, and burn the end of a wine cork and then dab on face to make a beard.
Dima: Are you out of the special food? Pats and hugs to you.
Melanie: I’m grateful you have nice neighbors. Now take it easy on yourself! I have heard of maybe half of those creatures. The names are very creative.
5:02 pm on October 26th, 2013
Yeep!….We finished playing in the leaves out back and now me and my friend are downstairs just in time to watch the second Sleepy Hollow episode in a marathon thingy… yeeep!…Scary Stuff!
5:13 pm on October 26th, 2013
Hi Riö, I am watching one of those but not the second one. I have just finished “It”. A much better novel than film.
5:18 pm on October 26th, 2013
Melanie!…yeep!….I can’t watch this show with my eyes open…sniff!…It is too scary for me….gasp!
5:42 pm on October 26th, 2013
Yelp!,…Now my friend has her hands over her eyes and I have my paws over mine….shudder!
6:16 pm on October 26th, 2013
Hmmmm.
Like CHobbit I posted, used the forbidden s h o e s word, and am being moderated at 4:59.
It is snowing but not sticking yet.
Dima: Sending ear scritches and prayers.
6:19 pm on October 26th, 2013
Pizza night here. Barb is leaving shortly to pick it up. She always lets me have the crusts. Yum!
Today we did yard work – cut grass for the last time this season, cleaned up garden beds, and even did a little fence staining. Tomorrow the rest of the fence gets stained. It will probably be the last opportunity until spring.
6:21 pm on October 26th, 2013
Love the raining Cats and dogs. Only problem, mine are soooo big they would bend the umbrella ribs 🙁 Kid with glow costume has ‘parents with too much time on their hands!
6:23 pm on October 26th, 2013
Maggie: that is what we call “Pizza Bones”. Love ’em.
6:30 pm on October 26th, 2013
Gulp!…Now Beau is down here with us watching this show. We are all on the chair with my friend and we all have our paws over our eyes…yeeep!yeeep!
6:35 pm on October 26th, 2013
Melanie, you push yourself too much. Now will you just sit and rest?
6:53 pm on October 26th, 2013
Princess Sam: We can all tell Melanie, we just can’t tell her much. Hope we can make a difference, though.
6:58 pm on October 26th, 2013
Telling!….Telling Melanie to do anything is exactly the same as telling Rebecca to do something….snort!….They never listen, or if they listen they still choose to do exactly as they please. And that’s that…grunt!
7:00 pm on October 26th, 2013
I am sitting and not doing anything.
Boring.
Zoë says overdoing it runs in the family, but from the Raven’ side not her side of the family.
How many snorts can I get for THAT statement?
7:08 pm on October 26th, 2013
Melanie: Snort times 12! Can’t you sit quietly and read a book until the ballgame comes on?
7:10 pm on October 26th, 2013
Time!… My friend says we are going to watch a little more of this scary marathon show and then all of us are going for a walk before the 3rd game of the World Series where we will watch the Red Sox kick Red-Butt…snort!…Feathers will fly my friends! Mark my words!…sniff!
7:12 pm on October 26th, 2013
Melanie!…I raise Dawson 2 snorts and a silent but deadly fart…grunt!
7:55 pm on October 26th, 2013
We are cheering for the other team, Rio. Yea, Cards! Barb’s nephew Scott is probably at the game.
7:56 pm on October 26th, 2013
Oh no the SBD farts! Dawson. do not challenge Rio when SBDs come into play.
8:07 pm on October 26th, 2013
Barb!…I bet you aren’t even watching the game…sniff!…Your fanship does not really count as you are not a true baseball fan…heh!heh!
8:14 pm on October 26th, 2013
Red birds, Red Sox. red anything. Remember red is a tough color for dogs. Rio can we cheer for a non-red thing?
8:14 pm on October 26th, 2013
HOH: No challenge, I fold.
Game On!
8:17 pm on October 26th, 2013
Dawson!….Doesn’t have it in her!…snort!heh!snort!
8:21 pm on October 26th, 2013
Gah! Snort! heh!b Help, we warned ya’ll. NO SBD’S around Rio…pugs are the champeen pooters.
8:27 pm on October 26th, 2013
Oh oh, trouble already. 2 – 2 Cards on some really good base hits.
8:28 pm on October 26th, 2013
I mean, 2 to 0! But still 2 on with 2 outs in the inning.
8:28 pm on October 26th, 2013
Nay!…It is 2 ta Zippo. Red Birds leading, not 2 ta 2…grunt!…Plus, they have 2 Birds on Base right now…sniff!sniff!…I smell trouble.
8:30 pm on October 26th, 2013
A score even Chet can understand. Whew! Inning over.
8:39 pm on October 26th, 2013
The Cardinals look like they mean business tonight.
8:46 pm on October 26th, 2013
Dawson!….They just look downright mean to me…sniff!
Review!….I finally got down to blog business and read the Review that Chet posted this morning…grunt!…That is an excellent review. It did not give away the plot and yet gave readers a real sense of the characters and the story….chuffle!…One of the few I have really enjoyed for this latest book.
8:49 pm on October 26th, 2013
Missing!…There was one thing missing from the review and that was mention of the Pug, Napoleon. I feel if the reviewer, Roz Shea, would have put a plug in for the Pug, even more readers would be flocking to buy the book…gruffle!
8:52 pm on October 26th, 2013
Rose!….Where is my friend Rose today?…sniff!…Did her and Grizz go somewhere for the day and not tell me?…grump!
8:56 pm on October 26th, 2013
Rio: you are correct. A plug for the pug! Napoleon a viz a cinque soldier,
9:05 pm on October 26th, 2013
Wow! Look at the time! HOH is going nighty night, Rio.
9:12 pm on October 26th, 2013
Rebecca!…snort!….And MIA Rose check your SDD’s when you get a good WiFi connection….chuffle!
9:29 pm on October 26th, 2013
Have I learned anything? I AM in my warm and cozy bed, going to read a little and go to sleep. I have only burst into tears twice since I got home.
Dog, do I change into a leaky faucet when I am tired.
I have decided to do half my walk in the morning, and then see if I’m up for the other half later during the day. What’s causinf this fatigue? It is much worse in the last two weeks. Left over contrasting dyes? Being made to glow? Anxiety? The fatigue seems to have come on quickly so I am guessing it is not the slow growing tumor.
Inquiring minds want to know.
TTFN (And the Red Sox are going to win)
9:32 pm on October 26th, 2013
Melanie!….Yes! (to all of the above)…sniff!
9:39 pm on October 26th, 2013
Melanie: You sleep tight tonight.
The game is getting interesting. The Red Sox have runners on 1st and 3rd with nobody out in the 5th inning.
9:42 pm on October 26th, 2013
Sox!…Yes, the Sox have runners on and they can tie the game…snort!…Then it will get very interesting!….wheeze!
9:50 pm on October 26th, 2013
Crap!…The Sox were only able to score 1 run off of a 21 year old pitcher…grunt!
SiberH!….Where the hell is SiberH during this year’s Series?…sniff!…He has been very quiet. Not one Yark-Opinion during any of the games so far…grump!
9:52 pm on October 26th, 2013
Rio: I’ll be back in two innings. I have to go spend some time with the Standard poodles next door.
9:54 pm on October 26th, 2013
Dawson!…They are probably watching the game, so you will not have to miss anything…heh!heh!
10:32 pm on October 26th, 2013
Rio, You are right about us not being true fans. We are half way between Bee and the rabid baseball fans. If there was any other team playing, then we wouldn’t care at all. But we are still cheering for the St. Louis team.
Night all.
10:34 pm on October 26th, 2013
Opportunity!….Okay, since it is a Dead-Wood night on this here blog…grump!…I have been given the A-OK to post some more photos of the Mysterious Sunflower Topiary…sniff!…The one my friend loves so much.
From afar!

10:36 pm on October 26th, 2013
Closer!…snort!

11:01 pm on October 26th, 2013

Red Sox need to pull up their socks and get down to business. (southern pecan)
11:01 pm on October 26th, 2013

11:05 pm on October 26th, 2013

11:05 pm on October 26th, 2013
The goat’s name is Bebe. She thinks she is a dog. Here is her companion dog named Jazz.
11:06 pm on October 26th, 2013
Wow!
Great pictures of your beautiful topiary. You are well and truly loved by your secret admirer.
The Bo-sox need two runs to tie this game with two innings to go.
11:08 pm on October 26th, 2013
And this is Jazz’s son Gypsy who is a cross between Jazz, a collie and a Great/Grand Pyrenees.

11:08 pm on October 26th, 2013
Someone today told me, “Goats are the new dogs.” Snort!
11:13 pm on October 26th, 2013
Gah!…Blasphemy!…snort!
11:15 pm on October 26th, 2013
Just about to sleep. Had to finish a book. Notice Staff’s pictures. Bebe looks like my goat, Blackberry, from 40 years ago! I would paint her horns and put glitter on her ears and beard. Not unlike a certain BelleStarr!
She’s the one who got on the table and ate napkins. Loved that goat. Sniff.
To sleep for sure now.
And Riö, that plant thing is beautiful.
11:18 pm on October 26th, 2013
Hmmmphf!….So the plant is a “thing” and the goat is “beloved”…grunt!….I’m starting to think I do not belong here much longer…sniff!
11:26 pm on October 26th, 2013
Teehee. Rio when the dogs took off after a squirrel the goat followed them. She does not like to let Jazz out of her sight. The baby, Gypsy, is much larger than his mother. And jealous. He wants all the attention. Here he is lapping up some attention from one of the quilters.

11:29 pm on October 26th, 2013
TIED!….The game is tied!….Wooooo!…And the inning is over…snort!….Now this is getting very exciting….heh!
11:32 pm on October 26th, 2013
Cross-Eyed!…Is that Gypsy guy cross-eyed?…wheeze!…It is seriously hard to look him in the eye…gah!
11:59 pm on October 26th, 2013
Yep, his one eye is half blue and half brown.
12:04 am on October 27th, 2013
What?!
12:07 am on October 27th, 2013
OMYDawg!….I am confused about the ending of this game….sniff!…Who won? gah!…All that tangling and guffling…yeep!…Goodnight. spit!
12:23 am on October 27th, 2013
Well…it was exciting! When the dust settled, the Cardinals won but it was a back and forth game. Tomorrow, I predict the Red Sox will come together and win!
Hello to LizF.
Goodnight to Nana, Melanie sleep tight, Dima please eat, sweet dreams Gracie and all the Pack, dog bless Tenzing.
12:24 am on October 27th, 2013
One more thing: And where is SiberH?
1:10 am on October 27th, 2013
Mr.Husky, please report in. We worry. sniff. Almost done with my baby quilt. The Bernina got rather hot so I decided to go to bed. About 7 quilters still up and going strong.
1:12 am on October 27th, 2013
And here it is…

1:32 am on October 27th, 2013

Excellent blog post. I certainly appreciate this site. Keep writing!|
10:51 pm on May 1st, 2015
I got this web page from my pal who told me on the topic of this web site and at the moment this time I am visiting this website and reading very informative articles here.
