Booklist on A Fistful of Collars
“Quinn’s ability to get inside Chet’s head continues to be what gives this series its spark. Between Chet’s insightful and humorous takes on human events, the fast-paced plot, and the wealth of fascinating secondary characters, this is a fine entry in a not-to-be-missed series.” – Jessica Moyer. (Coming Sept. 11)
Welcome Maxwell.

Greetings All!
CHH: I hope you are recovering from your fall. Sorry to hear that you were hurt!
I saw the story about Missy on the news. She absolutely should not be returned to her owner. Thank dog for the people who rescued her. She looks like a very sweet dog.
Melanie: I hope you are doing well. Tuck yourself under the quilt today and rest.
Prof and are are going to the dentist today for our check-up…..
10:07 am on August 18th, 2012
BTW, I liked the FOC blurb!
10:12 am on August 18th, 2012
Hi Wose! We agree. Grrr. Missy’s human should NOT get her back!!!
10:22 am on August 18th, 2012
Good Morning, Bear!
It makes me mad when humans treat their dogs or cats cruelly. I feel like I want to bite a pant leg.
I hope you and Masquers are safe from those horrible fires!
10:24 am on August 18th, 2012
Missy’s humans left her to die. They should be arrested!
10:24 am on August 18th, 2012
I love the fact that the reviewer considers Chet to be real. Which, of course, he is.
Love Missy, owner? hmmm . . . pondering what I would do if someone left one of my Newfs in a situation like that. I tend to get very, very angry.
Doing better to day. The 2 x 4 hasn’t won. I notice that I am taking at easy. Good for me!
Will read yesterday’s blog later.
10:45 am on August 18th, 2012
Before I get my second cup of cocoa and start the chores . . I was hanging out some blankets and looked over at the gardens.
Maybe I should have not put the compost tea on the pumpkin plant?
10:46 am on August 18th, 2012
Here’s the back of the tree . .

10:51 am on August 18th, 2012
I don’t understand why the owner took his dog up there in the first place. It’s unconscionable that he didn’t go back for her. The forest rangers should change their policy about human-only rescues or they should close the area to the public if it’s so dangerous. I agree with Sam.
Good morning all.
10:55 am on August 18th, 2012
Melanie: You’re going to have an evergreen that grows pumpkins!
10:59 am on August 18th, 2012
Our Mama would never, ever abandon us…..oh wait….she is abandoning us tomorrow. For a week! With only Gramp to spoil…ummm…we mean CARE for us.
11:07 am on August 18th, 2012
Help!…We are trying to get a book back to Dawson and someone who I will not mention has misplaced her address…grunt!…The one where she is right now with her parents. Can anyone send me an Emergency SDD with that address???…snort!snort!
11:12 am on August 18th, 2012
It makes very angry. Would you leave a two-legged on a mountain? Enough said.
Melanie: Glad to hear that 2×4 didn’t win.
Tee hee…a pumpkin tree!
Rose: Fires are still burning not only in WA, but also in Idaho and California. Some did not have insurance. Very sad. Thank you for your concern.
T&G: While your mum and dad are away you know you will be pampered like the Royals you are.
Riö: Give me a minute.
11:20 am on August 18th, 2012
We agree with all of youse. Missy should be adopted by the rescue couple and not returned to the owner. He should face animal crulety charges. And one wonders why he even wants her if he had so little regard in the first place.
Melanie, Love the pumpkin tree.
Easy day here, just some errands, puttering and semi-relaxing. Good for us.
11:24 am on August 18th, 2012
Barb and Maggie – absolutely Good For You!
11:28 am on August 18th, 2012
Riö! Check your SDD.

Postal!…We are off to the postal office…snort!
11:39 am on August 18th, 2012
Rio’s going postal!
11:42 am on August 18th, 2012
Fall is in the air here also. It’s a lovely 67 degrees, the sun is shining and the cicadas are calling.
11:51 am on August 18th, 2012
I have a question…if the government bailed out the banks why couldn’t it have done the same for the Postal Service?
Mlaiuppa: We are all caught up on Grimm…past and present season.
Rio: (From last night) You guessed it! Someone here broke down and purchased the final (sob) season of Breaking Bad. She rationalized it by pointing out that the Netflix DVD option had been cancelled so it shouldn’t affect my treat budget. We’ll see.
B: Fall? Still the heat of summer here.
C.Hobbit: Speaking of which…take it easy out there raking those pesky leaves.
12:03 pm on August 18th, 2012
Beautiful day here…73 and no humidity! All our windows are open. Dima got to go to Dog Day in Boyertown. They tried to convince us that he was heading to the v-e-t, but we were wise to him when we smelled tpthe Rita’s Pupcycle on him. Lucky for him, he brought treats home for all of us.
Sam, Kat has never been to Jacqueline’s, not that she would know one way or the other. She just rides…never knows where she is going, nor where she has beeen. Silly kat.
C.Hobbit, did you fall? We must have missed that. We only read how you are cleaning up Fall leaves already.
12:07 pm on August 18th, 2012
We just read the story about Missy. No way that “owner” should get her back.
12:20 pm on August 18th, 2012
The news says that there will be charges against the owner.
1:06 pm on August 18th, 2012
Barb has earned some good Karma today. When she was in town she saw a small case in the middle of the street. She stopped and picked it up thinking it was some sort of carrying case. Guess what it was? A Kindle! The glass was shattered but it still worked. There was no identification in the case so Barb stopped at the office and the high school girl started looking thru the picture album to see if she recoginized anyone. With their combined detective work, they were able to track down the owner and he came to pick it up. Evidently he set it on the roof of his car and then drove off. He was happy to have it back but pretty bummed about the shattered glass.
Since Barb is so cheap, she should have kept it till she read the e-story.
1:43 pm on August 18th, 2012
Detective Barb!
Going to sit outside. Need a sweater!
3:02 pm on August 18th, 2012
I also heard about Missy on the news.
I doubt she’ll go back to her owner.
He’s been charged with animal cruelty. (He took her on a hike not fit for dogs and didn’t do anything to retrieve her when she was injured, leaving her to die a painful death. That’s animal cruelty)
Since animals are legally property, he abandoned his property on public property. The couple that retrieved that property is entitled to it by rights of salvage. It would have been no different than if he had abandoned a really expensive high tech tent or backpack and they found it and took it home. In the eyes of the law, dogs are property.
I expect what is going to happen is that the guy is going to plead out on the animal cruelty by signing over right of ownership of the dog and Animal Control will then turn around and give the dog to the couple that rescued her.
It’s what I’d do if I were the judge. I might even add on that the original owner not be allowed to own a pet for XX number of years.
BTW the guy had a Facebook page, but he’s taken it down. Gee, wonder why?
I just bought a book on local hikes at CostCo. I went through it last night looking for easy ones. Then I checked to see which ones are appropriate for and allow dogs. My dog has a backpack and he’ll be packing his own water and bowl, plus a mini first aid kit and treats. He’s used to a pack so it won’t be a problem for him. He prefers on leash in new surroundings as it gives him a feeling of security. So we are going to be doing little one hour mini hikes locally as soon as the weather cools down. As we get better at it, we’ll try some of the moderate ones, but still only locally. Looking at the photos I would NEVER take a dog on a hike with boulders like that. I’m not a hiker but even *I* know better. Of course, I’m also a responsible dog owner. This guy clearly is not.
3:12 pm on August 18th, 2012
Good work Barb. Have you been able to download the e-story to your computer?
3:16 pm on August 18th, 2012
Have fun on the hike Mlaiuppa. What kind of dog do you have and what is his/her name?
3:16 pm on August 18th, 2012
Bee, No I still haven’t attempted it. I am intimidated.
3:43 pm on August 18th, 2012
Barb, You have my complete sympathy and understanding.
3:57 pm on August 18th, 2012
Barb: You can do it.
4:21 pm on August 18th, 2012
Mlaiuppa: Ramses avatar is tiny, but there’s a great photo of him on FOC!
4:29 pm on August 18th, 2012
Barb: Yes, you can! Amazon makes it easy-peasy. Your good karma is kicking in.
4:42 pm on August 18th, 2012
My good karma didn’t take me far enough. I went to Amazon, found the story, clicked buy now, then a screen came up that said I didn’t have a Kindle device registered. Then I clicked “Don’t have a Kindle”, and it took me to the next screen that said download the Kindle App. So I clicked that and it wouldn’t go any further. I give up. At least for now. Couldn’t we just cheat and have someone mail me a copy? I will give Spence $.99 when I see him next month.
5:22 pm on August 18th, 2012
Barb, I should think that arrangement would be fine with Spence. He has a great sense of humor.
I would do it, but I haven’t got a clue how to print something out from the Kindle and I honestly don’t think it can be done.
Is this an option? You will be close to your kids soon. Does one of them have a Kindle or a Nook?
5:42 pm on August 18th, 2012
I’d send a copy to Barb but I don’t know how to print the story. The usual print option is not there.
5:46 pm on August 18th, 2012
I think Lily has a Kindle Fire. Does that sound right?
5:57 pm on August 18th, 2012
Barb, Yes! That sounds exactly right and the Kindle Fire would work for ACWI. Woo Hoo
6:03 pm on August 18th, 2012
And it is figured out!! Congratulations to Barb!
Time for another “Foyle’s War”
Oh, and Mlaiuppa? More power to your dog for going on a hike and for you making sure it’s a safe one. Our Newf Pack does a walk/run. Neither Zoë nor I hike any longer. 🙂
6:59 pm on August 18th, 2012
Time to watch what I know Wolfie is watching. Just got the DVD in the mail. Will report back tomorrow – Bear
7:08 pm on August 18th, 2012
Home!…Someone’s been gone all day long – out with her friend trying to find stuff for the Murder Mystery party that is coming up…snort!….When she got home we went outside and look what was sitting on the chair….chuffle!….Big sucker!
7:26 pm on August 18th, 2012
You can get the story for any laptop from eBooks.com
You download the Adobe ePub software for free from Adobe. I think there is even a link from eBooks.com
ePub lets you read ebooks on your laptop like Adobe Reader lets you read PDFs. ePub is a format, like Kindle or Nook but it is a universal format, like PDF.
Go to eBooks.com and buy A Cat was Involved, then download the book and Adobe ePub and you’re set. You can also buy other ebooks in ePub format and read them too.

Riö: Your friend’s new project?
7:32 pm on August 18th, 2012
Rio – that flutter-by is absolutely beautiful. It looks so good, Sage wants to eat it.
We are big fans of butterflies in this house. Gramp really likes this one.
7:53 pm on August 18th, 2012
Very beautiful, Riö! I’m off to bed. TTFN
8:13 pm on August 18th, 2012
Post from last night that I posted long after everyone had gone to bed:
“Remember I mentioned raking? Well, I backed over a bag of yard debris and hurt my shoulder falling. I rate yard work right up there with cooking in terms of danger of personal injury. In addition to moving to a warmer climate, I need to buy a condo in a neighborhood with a lot of restaurants. No yard work, no cooking.”
8:16 pm on August 18th, 2012
We love the butterfly, Rio.
Barb, the Kindle Fire is an excellent solution! We can’t wait for you to read ACWI.
8:20 pm on August 18th, 2012
Oh, C.Hobbit, we were tired last night and although we read your statement about having to rake and wanting to move somewhere without yard work or cooking, we completely missed the part about you falling and hurting your shoulder. OUCH!
8:22 pm on August 18th, 2012
CHarris, My mom says the condo, resturants, and no yard work sound good to her.
I hope your shoulder isn’t too badly injured.
Rio, The butterfly is beautiful! Love the colors.
8:24 pm on August 18th, 2012
Butterfly!…Someone here is glad you think it looks like a butterfly cause there for a while it was touch and go…heh!…The problem is this is all she has done for the big Auction Project…sniff!… She will have to work her @ss off tomorrow to even have a slim chance of meeting the deadline…grunt!
8:27 pm on August 18th, 2012
CHobbit!….Are you okay?…snort!…I haven’t even had time to read late night posts…sniff!…What a busy day Beau and I have had ….yawnnnn!
8:28 pm on August 18th, 2012
Oley, Yes I think we will wait. We don’t have a laptop, we have an old desk top computer. Don’t know if that makes a difference.
That is not a real butterfly is it? That reminds me, when Barb was in high school they called her name for an award at an assembly. Her name was Barb Butterly, and the superintendant said Barbara Butterfly instead. The whole school cracked up and Barb was really embarrassed.
What are Bear and Wolfie watching tonight? We are going to say good night too.
8:32 pm on August 18th, 2012
CHobbit: A condo is an excellent choice. I live in one and I don’t do any lawn mowing or shoveling of snow in the winter. If things like fences or the roof need work the association takes care of it.
Beautiful butterfly Rio.
8:37 pm on August 18th, 2012
Condo!….Sounds good to me!…snort!…It seems like these two here do way too much yardwork…grunt!…I’d rather have more time to read and watch movies and eat!eat!eat!…heh!
8:39 pm on August 18th, 2012
Butterfly!…If she ever gets the courage to attempt another butterfly it will be a Monarch….snort!…Only 2 colors, black and orange…heh!
8:44 pm on August 18th, 2012
Rio, Pretty soon your friend will be able to do Pugs and Huskies
9:06 pm on August 18th, 2012
SiberH!…She says there is only so much she can do with twirled paper…snort!….Are you watching the game? Did you see where they showed Drew Goodman jumping out of a plane?….wheeze!…I was pretty impressed, let me tell you what…heh!
9:10 pm on August 18th, 2012
Rio, We thought it was your friend’s project, but it looked so real!
C Harris, Hope you feel better.
We are not going into a condo, but will no longer be cutting the grass. Sold the rider and will hire it done. Life is getting easier day by day. Night again.
9:32 pm on August 18th, 2012
uh I missed the jump out of the plane…rats
9:35 pm on August 18th, 2012

10:02 pm on August 18th, 2012
Game!…What do you mean SiberH?…snort!….The Rockies are catching up. Its now 6 ta 1 but it is the 8th inning so they better hurry up if they are going to win this…grunt! …Hey Charlie Blackman is up to bat!….Wooooo!…I haven’t seen that guy in ages…snorkel!
10:04 pm on August 18th, 2012
Wheeze!…Our walk was a little shorter tonight thank dawg…cough!sneeze!….I’m beat! Beau is laying in front of the fan…heh!
10:13 pm on August 18th, 2012
HEY!…Its only the 7th inning – they do have a chance in hell to win this…..woooooooo!…
10:38 pm on August 18th, 2012
Football!…Too bad Maskers and Bear do not have a TV…sniff!…They could be watching the Broncos beat their team tonight….chorkel!
10:49 pm on August 18th, 2012
AJ and I made it off the river just as the skies opened up and Herbs and Corgis began to fall. I think I may have even been hit in the head by a falling pug. It was nice to be on the river again.
Rio: Your friend’s project is beautiful. I’m with Barb, I thought it was real when I first glanced at it.
10:51 pm on August 18th, 2012
Rebecer!….I was thinking about you today on that lazy river…snort!…I hope youse guys had a good time terrifying tourists…chorkel!
11:23 pm on August 18th, 2012
Rio: We had fun, but, try as I might, I don’t think anyone was terrified.
12:32 am on August 19th, 2012
CHH: AJ and I lived in a condo in Park City, Utah at one point. We loved the area—all four seasons.
12:49 am on August 19th, 2012
I am going to be fine in a couple of days. I did give up on an invite to go contra dancing in Fairbanks tonight but otherwise, I am ok
I have to laugh at myself…my relocation “wish list” started with a place with 4 seasons and garbage pick up and has continued to escalate.

You really make it appear so easy together with your presentation but I find this topic to be actually one thing that I believe I’d never understand. It kind of feels too complex and very huge for me. I am looking forward in your next post, I’ll try to get the dangle of it!

This post actually made my day. You cann’t imagine simply how much time I had spent

The Droid X is pretty similar to the HTC Evo 4G with a few
benefits. The new plans offer discounts of $10 or $20 per month to customers
who skip the two-year contract in favor of Verizon Edge, which lets people spread out the full
cost of a new device over two years, with an option to upgrade after
paying 50 percent of the retail cost. I choose
this company because I have been with them for over 2 years and I
have never lost a call.
