    Hey! I’m the first?
    Good Morning Everyone.
Hope all is well out there.

Is that Masquers that is saying Hello My Pretties? With another picture of Masquers and BSD next to it?

Good morning all. Barb is home today and is cleaning out some gutters over the side porch, and replacing outside light bulbs. Oh what fun! Rain and some snow is supposed to be coming.

So- Mama left us. Abandoned us here all alone on the cold. And the dark. And the wolves are right outside. Sob-it’s so unfair!

Ok- she had to go open CLL cuz one of her coworkers
Is “missing” without power and phone lines.
And our house is warm and lit. And Dad is home with us. And as far as wolves, well maybe they are just some of the neighborhood members of the Nation barking. But still, it’s very unfair that she left us here. She is supposed to be home cuddling us!

Barb&Magpie: Yes, that is M in scary Halloween costume in one photo and with BSD in the next. Chet thought it was Mango and Buster, but we advised otherwise.
Tupper&Gilly: You poor neglected Royals! Left home alone (with Dad in a cozy warm house) with the wolves at the door. How could she!

Greetings Bear, B&M, and T&G, and all the rest of the Plunderers!

Bear: Nice job you and Masquers did disguising yourselves. You folled Chet, Admin, and Spence! 🙂

T&G: I am sending tummies, hugs, and cuddles your way!

B&M: Sorry to hear about the nasty weather coming at you. The next several days in Westchester will be snow and rain free. Unfortunately, some winds are expected, which could result in more downed trees and power lines…

From last night: Another great book, “The Art of Racing in the Rain.” I cried a lot.

We read the Art of Racing. Liked it but there was a lot of auto/racing references that didn’t appeal to us. Dog’s Purpose, we finished after putting it down for a week. Only reason we went back to it was Barb’s borther hounding us to read it. And after all, he read all 4 C & B books at our recommendation. Sort of agree with Siber, didn’t love it because of all the sadness. He did capture the dog’s prospective, but not as well as SQ does. Water for Elephants, really really liked it, loved the ending, but there were some scenes that bothered the hell out of us. Think old worn out horses, big hungry cats. Yikes! The ending was great, as opposed to Edgar Sawtelle, which we struggled thru, and HATED the ending. Anyone else care to comment on Edgar?

    10:37 am on November 2nd, 2011

Rose: No worries. We don’t even “see” blog typos anymore and in fact are sort of startled when a Plunderer corrects themselves in the next post. Guess we’re all so Simpatico we understand each other without explanation.
Racing in the Rain! One of our all time favorites! Loved, loved, loved that book!!! Thought the racing segments added to the story (it helps that Nana loves auto racing)
Barb&Magpie: The Story of Edgar Sawtelle…the setting takes place in Northern WI where Nana & her BFF grew up, so she was eager to read the book when it first came out, which was even before Oprah picked it for her book club. She liked the book a lot – even though struggling through the dark parts. The story of how the dogs were breed and trained was fascinating. Many parts where very emotional. Although the ending was disturbing we also felt hope. Hope too that there will be a sequel. Although, considering the first book took the author 10 years to complete…guess that won’t be anytime soon.

Hey, everyone, I just found out what my mom was “cooking up” for my dad. It’s not cooking actually, but a super secret surprise. However, you must promise not to tell him, okay.

His sixtieth birthday is this Friday, November 4, and she has come up with the very best possible birthday present imaginable. They are going to fly up to Boston that day, check into some ritzy hotel (I understand it is the same hotel where they spent their honeymoon many, many years ago), and then at 7:30 that night they will go to the Concord Free Public Library to attend a mystery writers’ program that is part of the Concord Festival of Authors, where our very own SQ will be one of the featured speakers. How cool is that!!! Woo! Woo! What a great birthday present for my dad, or what. Grandpa and I will have to “batch” it for the night, but they will come back on Saturday, so we won’t be alone too long. Wookie

Rio: 2 of U at FOC! Wookie up there this morning too.
I have a feeling this is going to be a good day. Even Rio’s forecast is looking up. No more snow and temps going up to a balmy 56 on Friday. Small glitch of showers & wind on Friday…then sun, sun, Sunny days for the next week.

  14. Masquers
    11:14 am on November 2nd, 2011

Wookie: (whispering) we promise not to tell. What a Great Birthday Surprise for your dad’s 60th – all that & seeing our favorite author too. And, btw that is a very cool picture of you.

P.S. to Rio: (speaking of typos) the showers for Saturday, not Friday as posted.

Wookie!! That is really neat and we won’t tell. That is a perfect birthday surprise. We are anxious to hear all about it.
    Very cute photo…makes me sleepy.

We liked The Art of Racing in the Rain, but didn’t love it. We know why: Reading Spence’s books has spoiled us when it comes to reading any other author that writes from a dog’s point of view. We love Chet, and we also love the way Spence makes the desert and the mountains part of the story.

  17. BearSpiritDog
    11:57 am on November 2nd, 2011

Wookie: Hope your friend Rio didn’t give away the Big Surprise. He was barking so loud we’re sure it was heard all the way over in Chevy Chase.
    B. Do you have the Snowhook Calendar? I thought of you yesterday seeing Charlie as Dog of the Month for November.

  18. BearSpiritDog
    12:12 pm on November 2nd, 2011

Siber-H: Nana read The Art of Racing in the Rain before reading Dog On It. Although Enzo has a different perspective from Chet’s, he tells a different kind of story too and so it remains on our list of All Time Favorites. Of course, there is no question that the Chet & Bernie Mysteries are at the very top of the most loved books of all time. Chet being our Go to Guy.

  22. Barb & Maggie
    12:27 pm on November 2nd, 2011

BSD, We liked the same things in Edgar that you found interesting, but the ending sucked all the joy out of it for us. We were looking for a different twist that involved the dogs and their training to bring about the result we desired. Does that make sense without spoiling the ending for someone who has not read it?

Wookie, Also love your surprise and your picture. Doesn’t get any better than that. And maybe they will bring back a doggie bag for you. Can’t wait to hear your report.

Feel a nap coming on, myself.

We liked the auto racing parts of The Art of Racing in the Rain.

T&G, Maybe those are just Sibers at your door. If that is the case, invite them in for a PARTY! Your mom will never know as long as you stash the Herbs where they can’t see or hear anything.

    Hello everybody,

Its been hectic today. Internet and phone line went out for awhile; electricians here; drywaller here. o boy.

Wookie, that is the best birthday surprise we have ever heard of! Your Dad is sure to love it (Mom too). And we loved seeing you in your Halloween bandana. We had Halloween bandanas but no Trick-or-Treaters. 🙁

Siber, we agree that Trigger doe look a lot like how we picture Chet.

Wookie: Mums the word on the surprise. That is an excellent gift! You look like you worked hard on Monday night.

Why oh why didn’t I go to law school?!? The casting director said they would send a release for the demo reel they want to shop to the networks. We received a five page contract full of big words and limitations including use of photos we take and if one of us was so inclined to produce literary materials. Gulp!

I will get it to you ASAP…as long as you say it won’t ruin the secret. I could just post them here…unless Dad is likely to see them….

    Let me know.

This is fast becoming a busy place. Personally I think Nana is aiming quite high here, but she has decided she wants to travel to Florida in January and is busily making preparations. Now all she needs are the funds. We’re just trying to stay out of her way.

Wookie: That is a really great surprise!! I won’t tell a soul. I may have to give the Prof a gentle hint about doing that. I love Boston, and would like to stay in the city, instead of the burbs as we usually do. I love your picture too. A deserved nap after a hard day’s night. 🙂

The Prof had a cancerous growth removed from his head this morning. Three sticthes taken. The last time he had a cancerous growth removed, he looked like a Sharpei the next day. Looks like he’ll be looking like one again tomorrow.

Rio – Mama says she has a good excuse for not being here earlier. She has been working away on her descriptions for the items for the MMS. They are all done and have been emailed to Bella.

Bella – really and honestly, they have been sent. Please say you got them and can use the pics in the format they were sent.

Wookie – your Mom is wonderful and your Dad is one lucky guy. Have a WONDERFUL time in Boston. Make sure to find time to get to Filene’s Basement. We call the 4 months without baseball The Long Dark.
Mom also says she spends more money on books during those 4 months.

We could cheer for the Denver Broncos or the Dallas Cowboys or the UNM Lobos because they are all doing so well this year. (I’m being nasty)

Maybe the Patroits will have a good year.

I just arrived home after pulling an all-nighter last night. I was looking forward to settling in for the evening, but that was not to be. Our pressure tank has a leak so AJ is headed back to town for materials and parts to fix it. Luna, Belle Starr and I decided to stay home and make sure the bed doesn’t float away in the not too distant future.

T&G: The Eagle feather has landed. All the pictures came through without any problem and your descriptions are wonderful. Looking at all the items that everyone has submitted, all I can say is we are in for a treat.

Rio: I think I will start using it this weekend. My asthma seems to be back under control. I do travel for work next week so I won’t be able to be as faithful as I would like, but it’s something. Did you know that your friend can take you for a brutal walk down our driveway in March—it’s a half mile long—wait, maybe I shouldn’t say that or you’ll rethink your trip North to Alaska…

Wookie: Jealousy abounds from my neck of the woods. I bet your mom and pop are going to have a great time.

    Night, Bear.

Rose: I am happy to report that Luna and Belle Starr blurred back home sometime yesterday. They had an extended stay at my parents where they were spoild and ate steak. They surprised me at my office yesterday afternoon with AJ in tow.

Oh, the tales they have told. They are still upset about losing a zinger, but even more upset that they didn’t get to see Rio. They had a blast with the Newf pack. Belle Starr says that Mac was always willing to play, and Luna assisted Patsy in keeping an eye on Melanie—I was told that Melanie stays so busy that Patsy has to set an example for her and lead the way to bed every night. Luna says she was glad to help.

There has been a bit of teasing that Kat is bigger than Belle Starr and the words, “We thought the Newfs were big dogs, but you should see Sheik!” were exclaimed. They enjoyed the time with the Royals and the Herb Kats and heeded the warning to stay out of boxes and away from packing tape.

It was reported that the Professor gives great tummies as long as he can refrain from sneezing, but you make the best cookies. They were also happy to report that no keys were left in any locks on their watch; Belle Starr wished she had reason to use her perp face, but she says there will be other trips.

A complaint against AJ and I were made because we give the dogs eggs from time to time, but never clever little things called way-voes. (I asked Belle Starr if she was sure that was how it was spelled, and she insisted). They were able to meet all of Siber-H’s friends at the dog park and snuck a quick play with the stuffed husky when his mom wasn’t looking.

And, now? Now, they are sleeping on the couch after having so much fun.

Bella – thanks. Now we can breathe a sigh of relief.

Mama says she is sympathetic with the trials and travails of home repair. She took her father to the store today to LOOK at storm doors to replace the one that is retiring this year. Then our Dad came along and met them at the store.
Mama has now informed us that our treat budget has been reduced to store brand biscuits – broken in HALF! But we have a nice, new, pretty (totally unnecessary) fancy storm door. And a new bifold door. And a new lever latch for a bifold door. And trim for the bifold door. And a new ironing board. And shelving for the cupboard. Oh, and a few other odds and ends.

She says letting men loose in a store like that is kind of letting a sugar-fueled five year old loose in FAO Schwartz.

We’re heading off to bed now too. We opened CLL today since our co-worker is still without electricity/phones/water and has a tree across her driveway. This was one heck of a storm.

    G’night all

Just a quick comment to BSD regarding a post yesterday. We’ve b

een watching “Once Upon a Time”. We love it. It is a very interesting and entertaining way to tell a story. Each episode gets better. It might be hard for someone to come in and watch without seeing the previous episodes.

Just starting “The Affair.” We’re sure mom will love it (she has an equal crush on Bernie and Reacher).

Do any of you watch any shows that you can’t believe you watch? Mom hates reality TV, but got hooked on Sister Wives!! Good Dog, how ridiculous and she keeps on watching…like a train wreck!

Can’t wait to shop Snowhook style! Everybody stay warm. We’re still running the A/C here.
