Beware!
Today’s the Ides of March, so Shakespeare pops into consciousness, as he so often does, even unconsciously. The soothsayer – and boy would it be nice to have a good one now – speaks the line first – “Beware the Ides of March” – as Julius Caesar passes by in the procession but Caesar doesn’t quite catch it so Brutus repeats it. Very cool that it’s Brutus, considering what’s to come, and so many actors playing Brutus have had a field day with that. But we’re dealing with Shakespeare here, where every day’s a field day. Was he a dog lover? Afraid not. There are lots of dog references – including “cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war” also from Julius Caesar, but there is only one named canine character in all of the plays – Crab in Two Gentlemen of Verona (below) – and the references are neutral at best, and never loving. Well, no one’s perfect, not even Mr. S.

Greetings!
Grizz and I were just talking about the Ides of March and Pi Day yesterday, and wondering if young people today would even know what they mean…
A sunny, windy day in this neck of the woods.
Good day to all!

March!…Madness!…snort!…My friend told me a basketball story she recently remembered because of March Madness…heh!…When she was 12 years old her Aunt and Uncle took her and her sister, who had no interest at all in basketball, to a Nuggets game. The pro team for Colorado at the time. They had seats at the very top row of the stadium…bah!…Now my friend was a HUGE Nuggets fan back then and her favorite player was Monte Towe. From her seat he looked like a little bug…gurgle!…He was not very tall at all but he was a really good player and his pal, David Thompson, was a Star player at the time…chuffle!…Anyways during the game she left her seat and snuck down into the hallway that leads to the teams locker room. (can youse believe that???). It was just before halftime. So she was there waiting for Monte to get his autograph before he got to the locker room….snort!snort!…Well, she was face to face with her basketball idol (no joking-he was short!) and he turned her down. He said they were not allowed to give autographs …sniff!burble!…But she did get to see him up close and in person so she didn’t feel too very bad. As she left the hallway and went back to the floor she saw her sister in a seat right above the teams bench..sneaky!sneak!sneak!
