Bengie Molina (Revised)
“It’s nice to see a chubby guy as the hero,” Spence says.
“If you accept that there can be anything heroic in professional sports,” says Admin.
“How about boxing?” says Spence. “Ever read Hemingway’s Fifty Grand?”
“How can you ask me that?” says Admin. “I was an English major, back when Hemingway was unavoidable, as opposed to unfindable in college, like now.”
Hey! Admin went to college? I never knew that. We’ve got a college downtown in the Valley. I love college kids! The way they like having non-stop fun! Was Admin like that? Hard to imagine.
“Notice the way Yankee Stadium empties out as soon as they fall behind?” says Spence.
“It’s easy to cheer for winners,” Admin says. “But habitually identifying with losers can’t be good either.”
They both look at me. “Chet has winner written all over him.”
Spence and Admin: They’re really not such bad guys, not even Admin. I saw him smile a few days ago, can’t remember at what.
