Beginnings (More – Revised)

On Sundays, we’ve been doing beginnings – all the Peter Abrahams novels in chronological order, including those written under the Spencer Quinn pen name. Today a repeat with revisions for #19, DELUSION (3rd in the prison novels, the others being LIGHTS OUT and END OF STORY). But we forgot to mention – and were reminded by our appearance last week on the monthly book show on WCAI (Cape and Islands NPR) where the subject was pirates – that we’d been down the pirate road ourselves in DELUSION. Hurricanes, buried secrets, an isolated Bahamian island, an actual sort of pirate with an actual sort of cutlass (if very tiny): the pieces are here!

[“Abrahams constructs a powder keg of suspense … He manages to imbue this page-turner with themes of racial and economic injustice while conjuring the ghost of Hamlet’s father to hover in the wings. Stellar.”
– Hallie Ehpron, the Boston Globe]

The man they called Pirate heard a guard coming down the cell block. Pirate had excellent hearing. He could identify the guards just from the sound of their footsteps on the cement floor.

Hurricanes, buried secrets, and pirates…how exciting!

I wonder if Snowhook ever had a pirate litter…

Grizz and I are going to see The Incredibles 2 today.

    Good Sunday to all!

I’m wondering about the last sentence. Pirate could identify individual guards by the sound of each one’s shoes, or guards as opposed to other people?

    Good morning all.

Wose: Mama here. The Outlaw litter is a litter of landlocked pirates. If they had been of the seafaring variety, no doubt would eye patches and peg tails have been involved. I personally oversaw the breaking of the mold.

What a night! Last night, when all of retirees filed into the house, I included myself amongst the crowd. Did anyone notice? It is hard to tell. I can report that I watched my Lady cleaning the kitchen. For a split section I noticed her noticing me noticing her, then she said, “Hey Charlie,” but that could mean anything really. (Whispering) I slept in the house the entire night. Yeep!

Wose: I would like a photo of B and me in our lazy chair for the calendar, but one of us—-no names will be named—-is convinced cameras will steal your soul. It is possible this is a result of someone getting to close with a camera during a race.

Mama Luna: I am smiling at your clarification of the Outlaw Litter. Grizz and I were just remembering with fondness our trip to the kennel back in 2013 (Yeep!), and how the Thieves went directly to our pockets when we walked in. :^)

Charlie: Sleeping in the house…Way to go! I will have to peruse my photo files. I do believe a picture of you may be available. HRH,B on the other hand…

Grizz and I give our thumps up to The Incredibles 2!

Mom has not read Delusion so it was not us who recommended it.

Wose, I think Mom has a really good picture of Charlie somewhere, too. I wonder how Old Doc felt about Charlie becoming a retiree with house privileges. And did Charlie make it atop the big bed?
