Beginnings (More)

On Sunday we’ve been doing beginnings – all the Chet and Bernie’s (as part of Chetspeak) – and now taking on all the Peter Abrahams novels in chronological order. Here, from 1998, #9 – A PERFECT CRIME. said: “An extraordinary high-water mark in the art of suspense … He even creates a shower scene – unbearably frightening, excruciatingly long, and the blackest of black comedy – that will make you forget the one in Psycho.”

Thursday, the best day of the week – the day of all days that Francie was predisposed to say yes. But here in the artist’s studio, with its view of the Dorchester gas tank superimposed on the harbor beyond, she couldn’t bring herself to do it. The problem was she hated the paintings.

Love the B&N review, and the beginning, of course! I never realized how many books OFA has written!

Still kind of windy in this neck of the woods. There is a possibility that we will be getting more snow on Wednesday.

Hoping that Teddy and his folks will have power soon!

    Good day to all!

Happy Egg Day! And Happy Restart Day! We are trying to get Momma to subscribe us to the Insider. We miss the old days when all of us Plunderers who would share news gleaned from our GPS tracker or other sources.
We here are still fans of Dallas. Why did he withdraw?
We will be rooting for Aliy and Jeff and of course Rob Cooke. We miss having “our own team” to watch. Sob

Danny Seavey posted an excellent blurb on facebook on the pros and cons of the sport. If you are on facebook, please look for it. We here are fans of the entire Seavey family.

Good morning Wose, B, Howlers and everyone. Busy day what with Beginnings, Egg Day and the restart. Family circumstances are keeping the Peeps home this year 😥. Had the trip planned but no go. We’ll just have to keep the Insider going.
We must say we miss the Plunderfests and our Plunderer family. We think Mr. Fireslippers, Ray and the DDD were brave to be with so many ladies.
Hope all have the Insider and can keep up from the lower 48.

We have tried to stay out of the fray and drama surrounding the race. That is our way. You may have noticed I rarely comment publicly on specific mushers. We are glad not to be running this year and are focused on building our tour business (thank you for the positive reviews). However, the drama and controversy—even though we don’t cheat, even though we ran clean races, even though we do our best for the dogs —- impacts all mushers whether they are running this year or not.

They asked AJ to be a race judge again this year. He leaves tomorrow for the trail. As race judge he will serve as rule enforcer, cheerleader, liaison, referee, reality check, comic relief and grunt worker. Last I heard, the Thieves planned to affix a tracker to AJ so I can watch his progress. I won’t buy a subscription to the race this year.

Today, we have been invited to join friends for a cookout on the trail to watch teams pass. We haven’t been spectators since 2009 and we are excited to enjoy the day. Yeep!

I ran my own race yesterday. I supervised the Giant all the way down to the bottom of our driveway as he plowed the snow. Then I ran all the way back up to the house. I was so tired that Ole Doc has to take a nap.

Alas, the hardcover version of The Perfect Crime that I bought did not cover with the cover jacket, so no photos or covers to report at this time. I am pleased to report that we finally got power back around midday today, so we were without power for the better part of 48 hours. We and Teddy survived just fine, but a lot of food in the refrigerator had to be tossed.

Teddy: I am happy to share some Slim Jims from Gomez’s personal stash so you don’t starve. My Lady says you have to share with your maw and paw.

W’s&T’s Paw: I am very happy to hear that power has been restored! As we drove around our area, we saw a lot of downed trees and power lines. We are very thankful we did not lose electricity.

Hooray for Beginnings! I’ve read this one but my bad memory sez I should read it again.

I’m watching the re-start. There are problems as per usual. There are two different audio feeds happening at the same time.

The only thing I’ve seen about the Iditarod is that Aliy is running 13 dogs of the team that just ran, and won, the Yukon Quest.

C.Hobbitz: It is really amazing to see how much influence Bellevue had on modern medicine as we know it. I may have to schedule a day trip/photo session for Bellevue. :^)

Looked like a great day to restart in Willow. All 67 teams will be in our prayers. Please know we miss all our Plunderer family members especially this time of year.

We have had quite a day, make that a weekend here. On Friday we did a VIP tour for combat veterans. Our Lady says it was truly special. Sierra’s grandpa who is a Vietnam vet saluted as the guests drove out after the tour. We’d be lying if we said we didn’t get a bit teary at that, too. Then today, the Giant and our Lady did breakfast at the school like every race—-it being a tradition—-before heading out on the trail to meet friends for tailgating. Please not we—Ole and Wee—-were not invited. But between breakfast and tailgating, we had a helicopter land at the property for a last minute VIP tour. Wee Nigel’s ears twirled just like the helicopter blades so much so that he almost took flight.

The Giant and our Lady just got back from fun on the trail. They had caribou stew and cookies. And, and this is a big and, the Giant will be sleeping in his bed tonight. This brings him great joy. Heh.
