Beginnings (More)

On Sunday we’ve been doing beginnings – all the Chet and Bernie’s (as part of Chetspeak) – and now taking on all the Peter Abrahams novels in chronological order. Here, from 1988, #4 – HARD RAIN:

The man they called Bao Dai lived in a three-colored world. Brown was the color of leeches. Orange was the color of Corporal Trinh’s decayed boots. Green was the color of the jungle and of misfortune.

Good morning Wose and everyone. We are enjoying all of the beginnings.
BSD, got ya on the strange sleep patterns. The s-son is working at Amazon from 7:30 PM to 6:30 AM except when they get ahead… oh joy, two nights this week we’ve been awakened by kid coming home early. Love being awakened at 3 AM or 5 AM

Hi Wose, B and HOH–Sharon–I really liked the snowflake/purple photo–how long did the little flakie last?
Wose–Thanks for the movie festival info–I wonder if they’ll sell single tix (at normal prices)? I really want to see Dunkirk and one or two others–not really excited about The Creature From the Black Lagoon finds Love, though..
    Have a Super Sunday, all…

DianeC., it was great until I walked into the house and got warm. Then a pretty little flake melted.

Fortunately this is a book that I have. Hard Rain, quite a gripping tale and the back cover with the infamous “sweater shot”.

And this is what the cover of the original book looked like when it was first published in 1988.

Since this morning, I have been considering today’s post. I, too, live in a three color world…Chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. Yum! :^)

I love the beginnings series, even though I haven’t read any of the PA books so far mentioned. I have read some of his books. The Tutor was the first one I read and it scared the carpola out of me. I had to stay up all night to finish it because I was too worried to sleep without knowing the ending. 🙁 I almost did not read another of his books but then I read and related to Oblivion as I was going through some stress-caused memory problems at the time I read it. Staff had some of his hardcover books at ma & pa’s house so I read them there.

I did post a comment yesterday but perhaps I forgot to “submit” it because it is not there.

Wose: I got a”D” so far on my apron because I only managed to sew the neck strap. I kept getting distracted by requests for this and that (because I’m one of the facilitators) and then the tension on my machine went wonky so I had to rip out the waist ties I’d tried to sew super-fast to catch up. So I left it for a later date.

Dawson, you make us laugh. Also, The Tutor was our first PA book too. Way too scary like Dawson said.
Wose, love your 3 color world. Mom’s family has lots of color blindness, both male and female…go figure. We used to put tags on Papa’s clothes so he wouldn’t clash. Mom has purple/lavender issues and her younger brother has similar issues.

Dawson!…I remember you reading The Tutor…heh!…I called you Zippy before you read the book. I was scarrit to read that book too, but compared to some of his others it was pretty tame-ish…heh!…So very talented in story telling…yeeep!

Up!…I’m UP for a short time then off to bed…snore!…My friend is still dealing with the Shingles pain and says she is tuckered out…sniff!…So therefore I am tuckered out too…wheeze! …But not till about 9:30-ish or so…sniff!
