Beginnings (More)

On Sunday we’ve been doing beginnings – all the Chet and Bernie’s (as part of Chetspeak) – and starting last week taking on all the Peter Abrahams novels in chronological order. Here, from 1982, #2 – TONGUES OF FIRE.

It was the night Israel died.

It was night as bright as day.

It could have been day, on another planet where the sky was red and purple and green; where the clouds were balls of orange and yellow fire; where the ground never stopped trembling; where there was no air to breathe, only smoke and dust, cordite and oil, shrapnel and blood.

It could have been a colossal experiment to drive rats crazy; but people, not rats went mad. The rats would go on as they always did.

Good morning, everyone! Certainly a graphic opening. We are enjoying the beginnings.
If you aren’t in the west, don’t shiver too much this Sunday.

    Tongues of Fire?
I know I have a bad memory but I don’t remember hearing this title before. Ominous opening scene.

    We are having a wonderfully warm, -15 C (+4 F), cloudy day.

Wose: I hope your electricity stays on.

    Good day to all.

Wose, we hope you were able to stay a little warm during your power outage. Did the Alaska coat get used? Stay toasty during the coming snow.

Thanx to OFA for the opening lines and to W&T’s Paw for the cover info. We are definitely adding that new/old book to our reading list.

It really is a Sun-day..57 degrees!..I’m spending the rest of the day outside! Sorry everyone. Wish we could share. ^..^

Wookie and Teddies Paw. (snicker) That is a very nice tiny piece of a quilt the book is resting on.

I suppose you have been spelling Pa as Paw all this time but I just now had the light bulb go off. Sometimes I can be really slow.

Staff: Thanks for the compliment, but as you can imagine, it goes to Debbie, not to me. I needed a background for the photos that did not reflect light, so the quilt in our second bedroom seemed perfect in that regard. I was wondering if anyone would notice and I suspected that, if anyone did, it would be you. So you can see the quilt unobstructed by OFA’s literary materials, I have taken a photo the the quilt in its entirety below.

Oh, and as regards the “Paw” that is compliments of Rio in terms of how he refers to me.

    Good job “Paw”,
Thank you so much for the picture of the quilt. I downloaded it and have been exploring all the lovely fabrics in it. I love Debbie’s use of color. I think of her often as her crazy chicken quilt hangs in my stairwell. LOL

HOH: Before the power came back on, Steve manually lit the pilot lights on the stove. We just got back from mall walking and dinner. Fortunately, the electricity is still on!

W’s&T’s Pa (Paw): Thanks for the pictures of OFA! Such matinee idol looks! The quilt is lovely! And I like that Rio refers to you as “Paw”. :^)

Tongues of Fire…sounds like what must happen to Rio when he eats his Friend’s green chili. :^)

Wose: who is the Steve of whom you speak? And, what have you done with Grizz?

Thieves! Egads! My pointy head experienced a momentary lapse of reason. Steve is the two-left handed man who sometimes masquerades as a fixer-upper in this apartment. As for Grizz, he is still asleep, snoring loudly.
