Sunday is for beginnings, where we take a look at the start of a Peter Abrahams novel, including those written under the Spencer Quinn moniker™. Prompted by what’s in the news, how about today we do The Right Side (not a Chet and Bernie novel, although the moniker was used)?

“Just want to make sure I’ve got your name right.” The man – Machado, read the tag hung around his neck – swiveled sideways to check his computer. The chair made a squeaky sound, intolerable to the woman sitting on the other side of the desk. It sparked a headache in the spot where her headaches got sparked these days, a headache that then blossomed like an explosion in slow motion, so slow you might have thought it would peter out, or be easily stopped. She knew better.

Heavy rain and some flooding expected in this neck of the woods. To all those in the path of the storm, stay safe.

I love that OFA has TM’d the Spencer Quinn moniker! :^)

    Good day to all!

Our last comfortable day, likely for two months. High of 78 today but tomorrow it’s predicted to be 80 and will inch up and remain in the 80s until likely October. I hope it breaks before Halloween.

The refrigerator is almost empty. Good, as it seems to be holding steady at 42. The freezer continues to creep up and is in the mid 20s now. Not much left in either. The new one arrives Tuesday. I hate it already. I hated it before I bought it. I stand in front of my current one and look at it. The new one is the same size but has the freezer on the top. Eye level. So the refrigerator is on the bottom. The top of the refrigerator section is maybe chest height. I’ll be stooping to use it for months. Maybe even a year or two until I can get the Kitchenaid I wanted in the first place. I’m considering just not using the bottom half because I just don’t want to bend down. I’m not supposed to with my back anyway. I miss my bottom freezer drawer already.

Diana and Freyja enjoyed an outing together at the Toyota dealership. It was Dog Days of Summer. They each got dog toys and I got a t-shirt while we waited for the car to get an oil change. Three hours. What is the point of making an appointment if you still have to wait three hours? At least there was free food. I got a cheese burger and they got plenty of treats from my bag. There was also an ice cream truck with free ice cream. They each got a “pupper cup”. I have no idea what it was but they both enjoyed it. And of course there is no having just an oil change. When the car was finally ready I had to make an appointment for Thursday to have the water pump and belt replaced. $650. I suppose I have no reason to complain. The car has been relatively repair-free for 13 years. Now I can expect some repairs$$ for a few years. Next will be the brakes and replacing all the other belts but not quite yet. Kinda thankful lockdown reduced my driving to practically nil.

Appropriate book for these times indeed.

Sunny and warm yesterday but overcast and chilly today. It is a reminder that colder weather is coming. There has been some reports of snow in the state.

I hope Rio and Mother are enjoying baseball. I miss all the virtual pies that B.Stover used to bake for us. I dislike store bought pies and am to lazy and inexperienced to make one.

The travel bug has bitten me but I have nowhere to go.

Hobbit: I know what you mean about the travel bug. Grizz and I have a trip to Boston planned. We are keeping our fingers crossed that COVID doesn’t cancel it out.

Looked at the cover of The Right Side yesterday and thought about a reread.
It was different but enjoyable the first time and I’ll bet they’ll be more to it this time.
