Beginnings

On Sunday we take a look at the start of a Peter Abrahams novel, including those written under the Spencer Quinn moniker. How about To Fetch A Thief? An elephant named Peanut plays an important role. (On the book tour a zookeeper told me I’d gotten her right. Whew.) Note: the Chet and Bernie novels can be read in any order. You could start with Of Mutts and Men, the most recent, and not hear a peep out of me.

“I smell trouble,” Bernie said.

Better stop right there. Not that I doubt Bernie. The truth is I believe everything he says. And he has a nice big nose for a human. But what’s that saying? Not much.

It’s a fact that trouble has a smell – human trouble especially, sour and penetrating – but Bernie had never smelled trouble before, or if so he hadn’t mentioned it, and Bernie mentioned all kinds of things to me. We’re partners in the Little Detective Agency, me and Bernie, Bernie’s last name being Little. I’m Chet, pure and simple.

Not quite sure but I think that TFAT is my favorite C&B. Of course we love them all and I’ve read them all a couple of times.
    Super Sunday to all.

    Chet spills the beans.

Weather report: Cold, snowy, skies grey. I’m not under the weather. I’m surrounded by it.

    Create a great day!

Ah…since OFA mentioned that a zookeeper says he got the elephant, Peanut, right it raises the question: Does he ever get anything wrong? He seems to do a lot of research for his books.

Fresh snow here which Sadie is enjoying. Me not so much. Everyone slept late today but Mr. Big jumped on the bed for a cuddle and to remind me his food dish was empty. It was time to get up and get the day started.

I wanted to do a jigsaw puzzle to keep my fingertips nimble but both cats have been tossing things off my two tables right and left. I might put the spray water bottle on a table and see what happens; although I think Mr. Big will at some point settle on the puzzle and mess things up.

When I taught I did a unit called idioms for idiots. Had nothing to do with idioms but it made the kids think about how they worked.
