On Sundays, we do beginnings, taking a look at the start of a Peter Abrahams novel including those written under the Spencer Quinn moniker. How about End of Story, a Publishers Weekly and Entertainment Weekly best book of 2006?

[“… cunning… very scary… Abrahams writes prison scenes that can curl your toes, but nothing captures the brutality of the life more expressively that the material turned out by Ivy’s class.”
– New York Times Book Review (Marilyn Stasio)]

“How is going the writing?” said Dragan Karodojic.

Closing time at Verlaine’s Bar and Grille on Schermerhorn Street, no one left inside except Dragan, the dishwasher, mopping the floor, and Ivy Seidel, the bartender, cashing out.

“Not bad,” Ivy said. The question – how her writing was going – was the biggest one in her life, with her all the time, and the true answer was she had no idea.

BStover: Glad you are back online. I knew something was up when you didn’t chime in with a comment about the music in Chet and Bernie series.

    Enjoy the day.

Report! We can report that Rio is still without power. They were hopeful last night when they were told there was 100 guys working on it and that they may get power last night. At the mention of this, Ole Doc took a defensive position to protect his tennis ball drawer. He refused—and rightly so—-to share his tennis ball drawer with 100 guys. It’s bad enough that Mother keeps putting her socks in his tennis ball drawer.

Update! This just in! The electric guys just arrived at Rio’s! They will be fixing wires tonight and wotnot. We can report that Rio, evil pug that he is, sobbed like a puppy when he saw the electric guys. Sniff!

We can also report that Ole Doc just our camo face paint on his face. He is not giving up his tennis ball drawer without a fight.

Recording breaking 78 degrees yesterday. I think today Willow is to be the hot spot. I hope all 57 doggies can go for a frolic in the water. Sadie is lying inches from the fan (I have 5 going just in the upstairs living space).

Taking a break from painting until early evening. So far I’ve done the deck railings (2 coats), the backyard shed (still have to do a second coat and the trim) and I have waterproofed the back steps. Thirteen hours of painting over two days –and a Tylenol so that I can still move. ha ha

Breaking news! Power has been restored at Rio’s place. It may be some time before he has WiFi again. To console him. Friend is grilling steaks tonight. Burp!

Hi, guys. Just saw on the weather that Death Valley recorded 130 degrees today. Supposedly the hottest recorded temp ever on earth. Wow!

I am happy to hear that Rio might get his friend’s power back. That should be just in time to use the new potholders that were mailed last week.
I have to post on my phone cuz my computer will still not let me post anything so it’s very annoying.
Here is a picture of Mr. Staff and Henry for you to enjoy.

Staff: Does Mr. Staff know about Mr. Fireslippers? Yeep!

We can report that Rio has turn on every light in the house just because he can. We respect that about him.
