On Sunday we do beginnings, taking a look at the start of a Peter Abrahams novel, including those written under the Spencer Quinn moniker. Today, how about a little taste of something not even out yet – i.e. a sneak peek! Here’s the start of The Iggy Papers, the new short story that will come free with all preorders of Of Mutts and Men (the next Chet and Bernie). Just save your receipt!

“Well lookie here,” said Nixon Panero, the best car repair dude in the whole Valley, reaching deep into the engine of the Porsche, not the old one that had gone off a cliff or the older one that got blown up, but the oldest – meaning our new one – with the cool martini glasses on the fenders, a beautiful touch added by Rui, Nixon’s paint guy who happened to be a real artist, trained by Andy Warhol, whoever he happened to be. Or possibly someone who’d met Andy in lock-up, if I had the story straight. Nixon was also our buddy, although he’d been a perp at one time, a perp we’d collared and sent up the river, collaring perps being what we do at the Little Detective Agency, me and Bernie. It’s called the Little Detective Agency because Bernie’s last name is Little. I myself get along very well without a last name. Call me Chet, pure and simple. The river, by the way, has no water in it.

Looking forward to reading “The Iggy Papers” and “Of Mutts and Men.”

A sunny, blue sky day in this neck of the woods.

    Good day to all!

Bananas!…We have had an over-flow of bananas here lately…grunt!…Something I never eat…bah!…They were given as a gift from a neighbors daughter who is a school teacher. Those bananas turned brown after a few days so my friend once again made Stovers’ banana bread. A double recipe! So we have banana bread out the ying yang!…snort!…My friend wrapped it up and froze it all because they are still eating the first loaf that was made recently…snuffle!

I couldn’t figure out why I was sweating so much on my walk this morning and worried that I might be sick. Then I found out that it was almost 50 degrees. No wonder–a heat wave that is to continue at least for a week. Maybe winter is over and I can wash my winter gear and put it away.

With the melting snow, I scooped up the dog messes in the back yard that had been exposed. I walk Sadie daily and she always has a mess (that I pick up) but obviously there were some winter icy days that I didn’t take Sadie for a walk. I filled up several bags but the job is done until more melting occurs.

I have cut 8 of Mr. Big’s nails in preparation for me cleaning his rear which occasionally has to be done. I will be wearing protective gear so all I have to do now is get my courage up.

Planning to cook something for my sister but am missing a key ingredient so will brave the nearby store. Take care everyone.
