On Sunday we do beginnings, taking a look at the start of a Peter Abrahams novel, including those written under the Spencer Quinn moniker (and it’s a chance to use that strange word, moniker, every week!) Today – how about a bit of a sneak peek? Here’s the beginning of Of Mutts and Men, the next Chet and Bernie novel. If you preorder please save your receipt because you’ll also be getting (free) The Iggy Papers, a new C&B short story. (Instructions on what to do with the receipt coming in a few days.)

A rooftop chase? Who’s got it better than me? Chasing down perps is what we do, me and Bernie. We’re partners in the Little Detective Agency, Little being Bernie’s last name. I’m Chet, pure and simple. When it comes to chasing down perps, rooftop chasing is what you might call a specialty within a specialty, if you see what I mean. And if you don’t then … then actually I’m right there with you. The point is that rooftop chases don’t happen often, so when they do you’ve got to enjoy them with all your heart. No problem. Enjoying with all my heart is one of my best things, right up there with leaping and grabbing perps by the pant leg.

I can report that my Attendant has been reading a lot so I know she will be happy with this post.
I can also report that my Attendant has changed. When I am annoying, she gives me treaties. The dog is annoying and she gets treaties. I am obnoxious and get salmon. The dog is obnoxious and gets salmon. She used to like good kitties and good doggies but now she apparently likes bad ones also. Who knew? Life has become so much easier and more rewarding. I am in my element. Being a bad kitty is so much fun.
I heard her say that Sadie had become stubborn in her old age. If she could read my eyes, the message is, “It’s your fault!”

Happy Sunday to all! Can’t wait for this book.
For those whose read the Andy Carpenter series by David Rosenfelt, there is a new book out that is a spin off of those. Mom read 3/4 of this new book last night. She should finish it today.

Work!…My friend is debating with herself whether she should go to work…wheeze!…Mother and I both want her to stay home because we are elderly and at risk of whatever is going on out in the world, or the backyard as I call it…grunt!…Stay home! Sell stuffed crochet animals to buy my treaties! Stay home and let me lie on yer lap in a puddle of yarn…snorkel!

Rio: If it will keep Friend home from work, the answer is yes. We will dip into Ole Doc’s retirement.

Thieves!…NO! Do not do that. Ole Doc needs all the retirement bones and slim jims he can get….grunt!
