On Sundays we do beginnings – taking a look at the start of a Peter Abrahams novel in including those written under the Spencer Quinn pen name. How many of all those kids who were out of school for so long were reading books? I hope a lot, but I’m not so sure. Maybe they’d enjoy the Bowser and Birdie middle-grade series (available to adults with fake ID). For any of you who have or know kids – and what would a life be without at least one kid in it somewhere? – here’s the start of Woof, book one in the series.

Two humans stood outside my cage, a white-haired woman and a gum-chewing kid. Gum-chewing is one of the best sounds out there, and the smell’s not bad either. I liked the kid from the get-go.

They gazed in at me. I gazed out at them. The white-haired woman had blue eyes, washed out and watery. The kid’s eyes were a bright, clear blue, like the sky on a cloudless day. I hadn’t seen the sky in way too long.

“How about this one, Grammy?” the kid said.

I love those books. And I didn’t even need a fake ID.

Mike Rowe’s Dirty Jobs showed Alaska sled dogs from Happy Trails Lake Kennels. Thought it was fair, informative and educational without some of the silliness.

So much of Alaska bush culture has been shared with those from the lower 48. We need to thanks OFA, Plunderers, Iditarod and Alaska history.

I remember that Mike Rowe episode. He got to feed the dogs, pick up their poo and break icicles off their houses.

Mlaiuppa, glad someone else saw this.
Around here it was 76 yesterday and we could have an inch of snow tonight. Really strange weather around here from the ridiculous to less than sublime.
Last night was thunder boomers that shook the house all night and tonight we’re thinking about snow, so crazy.

Thanks to HoH, I was able to watch Mike Rowe’s Dirty Jobs sled dog breeder episode again. I remembered quite a lot. It was fun to see it again.

So happy Dirty Jobs is back. I’m watching the rest of the review episodes waiting for the new one to come on.
