“Too early to post the first sentence of WOOF, your upcoming middle-grade novel?” Admin says.

“I think so,” Spence says.

“How about just the first word?”

“Don’t see the harm in that.”

“So what is it?” says Admin.

“Ah,” says Admin. “An important number, relationship-wise.”

Good morning, everyone! You could be the early boid and got the worm. BBW, two is a great number, amigo!
    Have a super special Saturday.

We agree, two is a good number, and one of Chet’s favorites.

Morning all. Nice day here. Have errands this morning. Think I might take a spin by the library to see if they have Miss Julia Plans a Wedding. Can’t let HOH get ahead of us.

Got my raise yesterday – not a big one but I am happy. And the boss man said he loves it when I am in the office. I like to get atta-girls, but who doesn’t?

Barb, you go gal! BTW, no worry about getting ahead of the mommy dog. She brings home 3 books for 3 weeks. Right now doing a Lawrence Sanders’ McNally, then an Ian Rankin THEN Miss Julia Plans a Wedding. Sunny side up here through Easter Sunday (with LOTS of egggs we hope). Monday to Thursday, rain and boomers. Have we said that we miss Kyiah? We surely do.

I am also going to look for The Sweetheart Season. Just for Rio!

It got down to 28* last night, but looking better – upper 50s today, and mid 60s tomorrow.

Have to go buy my Easter cards and get some new $10s to stick in. The kids get enough candy, so I am going to do $$. They all like that.

Barb, here we call $$$ “underwear” because it is always the right size and the right color 🙂
MP&LL’s Mom, What wonderful fotos! The dogs in that race look very lupinesque, but what better place for wolf dogs than Siberia where they probably first took to hanging with humans.

    Morning everyone.
Interesting article about the Russian Iditarod. If my Celsius to Fahrenheit converter is correct, they only had temps of -22 degrees. AJ and the team would laugh at the idea of stopping to get out of that cold.
Another interesting note: the reindeer camps are there because of Cultural Survival, the group who produces many of our shows. CS had a project many years ago to reintroduce reindeer husbandry to Russia. Reindeer to them was as important as the buffalo was to the Natives here, but the herds had been wiped out and the people forgot about how to raise, feed, and utilize them. CS supplied not only the livestock, but the experts who could teach the locals how to manage them. It was a successful project.

What IS -30 Celsius again anyway? I Forgot or, who knows, maybe never even knew.

P.S. Every Tuesday, when mom goes to the library, she reminds the children’s librarian about WOOF. She finally asked how mom knew about it so she told Shelly about OFA and all his skills and talent and bragged about him and the “last great race”. She (the kids’ librarian) is now tinking about a winter library activity with the Iditarod. Wowser, go Snowhook! We are going to “hook” others!

    Spence: Excellent first word! Heh!

My first morning here I went to the lake and there was an eagle high up in a tree. It took flight and swooped down toward a group of ducks who all tried to flee one way, then another as the eagle kept swooping down on them time after time. I know the eagle has to eat but I was happy when it quit before getting it’s breakfast.

Mollypop’s&Loulou’s Mom: Nice article about the Russian Iditarod. Those dogs are beautiful. I didn’t see how many teams there were but there was one women musher.

Snagged the Miss Julia book – Miss Julia Throws a Wedding, but the Sweetheart Season had to be ordered from another library. They had several KJ Folwer books, but not that one.

Has anyone read a series about Prehistoric North American people by a husband/wife team with the last name of Gear? I think they are anthropologists as well as authors.

Good Looking Siber in HOH’s photo…nice job on the eye makeup.

Not sure why, but I don’t think you have to read this series in order. I think they are all different stories. I may just grab The People of the Owl and try it since my library has that one.

No I didn’t, Bee. I don’t know her well, and she told me she struggles with English, so I felt it was not the place to do so. She is going to clean for my DIL and I have met her just once. She texted me that she hoped she had the “wright time” and needed to call Jess. I felt it would be overstepping to say “hey, you didn’t spell right correctly”.

Dawson and Staff: I’ve been there. It is sad for everyone. It really hard for men to give up their “independence” and hard for women to give up their beloved home. Some make the adjustment and some don’t. Here is hoping that your Dad settles in and is comfortable. It will help if he has visitors.

I’ve now sorted through three houses of things. I know I need to do my own house to make it easy for my niece and nephew. All my stuff means a lot to me but no one else.

Staff and Dawson – of course he still loves you. But he needs to assert his power by not telling you. He is punishing you, but when he settles in, he will probably tell you how great the place is and how much he likes it. Try not to let your hearts hurt

  61. c.hobbit

I just went through my closets and got rid of all the size 4s pants and size “S” tops. I haven’t worn them in two years and while I do plan to lose weight, it is hard to imagine being that thin again particularly with all the working ot I’ve been doing. Muscles do take up more physical space especially when they are still currently under a layer of fluff.

Sorry folks, been busy getting Melanie home. Yep, no thanks to the nursing home staff and quacky doctor, Melanie’s home. Seems giving them a firm deadline was the thing that got them to release her, because she was ready otherwise. She’s been home since Wednesday. She’s got her attendant help, and only a couple who knee jerk claimed a fear of/dislike of dogs. I predict we won’t see at least one of those ones again. (In my hundreds of years of experience, most people who dislike animals are not nice people anyway.)

As for reading matter. Woof! is being read by Jim Frangione, which made my evening. Can’t wait to get it. And for other books, we just finished *A Dog’s Journey*, the sequel to *A Dog’s Purpose*. I recommend.

Now…I wonder if this sleeping thing is gonna work tonight?

Thank you for all the support for Dawson and me. We need it right now. I know it is only the third day and hopefully he will adjust but he is really hurting right now. And he is worrying the really sweet caretaker who probably thought Dad would be a sweet old man instead of a grumpy curmudgeon.

I have to go clean up the kitchen because I made an egg bake for tomorrow morning and now the kitchen is a terrible mess. It was clean when Mr.Staff finished with the dishes about 8, so I better not leave it this way.

BSD (and B. Stover)–Peek, peak, and pique–I was following anxiously as you went through all of them–isn’t English a pistol? I once had a student whose first lg was Spanish, and who was quite fluent in English, but who said the fact that we had words for “in” and “on” was confusing to him (rather than using “in” for both). I drew him a picture (house with stick figures inside and on the roof) to explain.
Barb–Congratulations on the raise–it really feels good to be appreciated, cash nexus or no, no?
Dawson–what everyone else said–you’re doing the right thing, but there’s also some finality and despair on his side, too. Can you bring him home with you (for a few hours or maybe overnight) for holidays and such? That really seemed to help the husband when he was in care (and your story makes me appreciate his cooperation).
Sigh…memories..OK, I have to stop free-associating and get going. Two more words–Julian Barnes (terrific writer).
