Bastille Day Explained

“A French national holiday celebrating the Chet and Bernie series, if I remember right,” says Admin. “It’s tomorrow, coinciding with the release of the latest C&B, SCENTS AND SENSIBILITY. There are lineups in Paris already, as you can see below.”

Good morning, everyone! TO MORR OW! Mom said she might give us some tuna so we can wait with baity breath. ML Bella Rosa is a doll and a new addition to the O’H. Still hoping Wose and Siber’s Maw are lurking along with several others. If it is Monday, does that mean Masquers and BSD and Nana will come home?
Well, heck, let’s have a Masquers Monday.

Good morning all. We are excited about tomorrow. Nice that the French are even celebrating the publication date!

Staff, thank you for the response last night. I think you are right about the beans. Jessica planted some too, and she couldn’t figure out what she had planted due to the flat shape. I planted Roma Italian beans near them last year so I bet that is what happened. They still taste great and are very prolific so guess it isn’t a problem.

Lots of rain and some high winds here this morning. Heard that there are trees down in town, but all is ok at our place.

Bastille Day celebrates the storming of the Bastille (the rebels wanted the ammunition stored there and they also let out the few prisoners who were in there) which began the French Revolution. I always think that one should remember that the revolution brought about the “Reign of Terror.”

    Good morning all.

    Good morning all.
Ummm, Spence, we may need to have a little chat about French history.
Hot, humid and icky here today. They call them the “dog days” – our dogs say phooey!

    Whew!
I’m glad I pre-ordered S&S so I don’t have to stand in that line. Some of those would-be readers have weapons!

Teddy’s and Wookie’s Dad: Thanks for the latest installment of the Teddy and Zeta chronicles. That Zeta is great on the slide and thank dog Teddy was there to make sure Zeta’s mom was okay after coming down the slide.

Good Morning All–about to start the last week of S. School with some unrelated activities, the first of which will be catching up on last night’s blog.

DianeC: I believe that is an excellent way to start your last week of summer school and the week S & S is released. Yay!

The old-man-who-lives-in-this-house will be home today. I am going to go look at the apple tree, although I doubt it has grown any branches since yesterday.

Dawson, Don’t point it out, maybe he won’t notice. Most men are somewhat oblivious. You could always claim storm damage as a last resort.

Hello ..I am a bit behind on the blog news. Martha told me someone was looking for a copy of White Wings. If you go on Amazon, books..and put in White Wings, you will find a good many copies for sale ($.01) all you pay is $4.50 shipping.

And, one of you wonderful people (names do not last in my head) told about liquid Glucosamine. (with all the other stuff too) I bought it for Mac and it is helping him much more than the pills did. Thank you so much!

Now if you could just sell my house…Zoe

I’m glad the liquid Glucosamine is working Zoe.

Thunderstorms are coming so I can’t finish work in the garden.

I’m waiting to see if Dawson’s man-in-the-house notices the damage.

HRH B, mom has been using glucosamine tablets, but our Darah is much younger. We will keep the liquid in mind for later (for mom and Darah). Zoe, Good luck with the beautiful home sale.

Bee – no, no, no – not “damage” to the apple tree. “Sculpting” in a Japanese type of theme.

Tenzing, what date does the 2016 Iditarod start? If this is going to be AJ’s last year to race, Mom wants to see if there is any way she can make it to Alaska for the race.

Wait! He is staring out the kitchen window now.

But surely he will notice when he goes outside.

I missed so much while on vacation. What is the story of Dawson’s apple tree? And is she like George, and cannot tell a lie?

The downstairs cat escaped upstairs while I was gone. I still have no idea how she managed that short of learning to use the doorknob. She got in a fight with Mr Big…and it is Mr. Big who got the worst of it which is interesting as Mr. Big is so much bigger and KC is declawed.

Took Magoo to the vet. Yup he is blind and apparently due to rods and cones not developing in his retina. He can see a bit of light and shadows.

Sadie and Big doing better. Paws crossed

OMD!!! How did you do that, Dawson???

  26. dawson
    8:42 pm on July 13th, 2015

Kat: Your reaction does not make me feel good.
Well, you see, there is a big pile of clay under the apple tree, so it was hard to see and this one branch was in my way and diseased looking to boot, plus hanging on the clay and it had no apples on it so I figured what the hay? and sawed it off only somehow it was attached to all these other branches and, well…never mind. I think I’d best keep my mouth shut.

Personally, I like the tree better this way, or I will by next year when I get used to it. I have the branches now curving downwards so that I can pick all the apples without a ladder.

Dawson–A cautious sigh of relief (although I do like the idea of calling it bonsai).
    C. Hobbit–I hope Mr. Big and KC make peace in a timely manner. Won’t Magoo be OK as long as he can smell? (WE’RE the visually dependant species.)
About to go spread wisdom and knowledge. It may be a bit tense tonight as I left the graded exams at home, but I’m sure the discussion about money creation will completely displace any anxieties (yes, that’s sarcasm)…

Mama and the Storyteller were asked to speak to a group of Native high schoolers who are doing a 6 week college intro program.
They had a good time with the students, and had a very good discussion about honor and tradition and culture. One young man asked what profession Mama thought was the most valuable. Without a moment of hesitation she said Teacher.
Because a good teacher can keep the culture, pass it along, explain why it works and why it is important, and open eyes to see broader horizons, and change lives.
The young man came up to her later and thanked her. He wants to teach someday,
The teacher came up and thanked her too.
No need. She was just telling the truth; the greatest teacher
Mama ever knew was her mother.

Dawson, Mr.Staff and I are home from delivering our guest (halfway) home and then I had to nap. 14 year olds are very tiring! I am just catching up with the blog. I am laughing out loud at your tree story. I thought it was just a little trim until I saw you picture. OH MY DOG!

I laughed and laughed. It brought back some memories, let me tell you… But I don’t think Mr.Staff every cut off such a big branch. (I am over it now. I think.)

BSD–Yes, timely. Students had trouble grasping the process, but should have a handle on it after tonight.
Corgis sound comfortable and their parents can sleep soundly too, as they continue to contribute to society in so many ways.
I have a full day today, so Bonne Fete (without the Terror) to all. (Also, awaiting results of the Pluto flyby but I hear they’re not due out until Friday.)
It’s a French holiday! An excuse for wine. Also pastry.
