Bastille Day Excitement Already Building

“Looking forward to Bastille Day this year,” Admin says.

“Yeah?” says Spence.

“July 14.”

“I’m aware of that.”

“And what else happens that day?” says Admin.

“Well, it’s pub date for Scents and Sensibility, the new Chet and Bernie novel.”

“See the connection?”

“Between Bastille Day and Scents and Sensibility?” Spence says. “Not really.”

“Are there any French characters in the story?”

“What about French words?”

“Not that I recall.”

“Or English words derived from French?”

“You can barely string two words together without having that,” says Spence.

“There you go!” Admin says. “Vive Scents and Sensibility!”

Ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, baaaaaaa, ba, ba. Do we have the tune correct? Never mind, a bit loopy from staying up to watch the Red Lantern. Good morning! Come on Spring, we could all use a dose of pollen and hay fever about now. Mmmm, is fever a thene here? From cabin fever, to hay fever, to fever blisters to… enough.
    Have a munificent Monday!

For anyone who is interested, they did not show the live finish when Cindy Abbott came down Front Street at 9:19 ADT last night. We can only hope there was a good sized crowd to welcome her into Nome.

    Third Time’s a Charm…Cindy Abbott Finishes the 2015 Iditarod.
She said completing the Great Race was more difficult than climbing Mount Everett.
Our Favorite Part of the Interview was when she was asked at what point she thought she would make it to Nome.
Her Answer? “When I Started Out”.
    We like that!

The 43rd Iditarod is now in the history books, but what memories. And we hope to hear stories from our Snowhook (after the 2 and 4 leggers get some rest!).

We Here are still Very Upset with the Insider-Less for not sticking around to show the Live Feed (although the cameras where still running).

NOt to be Picky, but the Camera Angle at the finish is a little weird.

Don’t know about anyone else but this has been a Very Emotional Race. Two 4-legged athletes died…one 2-legged came close and several mushers were lost on the Trail.

Rest Well, Our Beloved Snowhook Team, Musher and BDHW.

We think Cindy Abbott and every musher who crossed the finish line deserves the same accolades and publicity. Why does the ITC NOT get the fact that each musher has paid the same entry fee, worked just as hard, have as many friends/sponsors/family members, and HAS TRAVELED THE SAME DISTANCE!!

Harrumph. Ok, off the soapbox for now. Good morning everyone.

It’s always reassuring to know that the Pink Bulldozer is fully in gear in Western Mass.

    11:16 am on March 23rd, 2015

I agree, Cindy should have gotten more attention. That was unfair on so many levles. Every finisher deserves the same respect.

I got to work but it was a challenge. Not Iditarod difficult, but still the worst roads I have traveled this season. Roads were slippery, snowy and unplowed. But I made it, and by afternoon roads will be cleared. Thank DOG I didn’t have to take Sammy to the vet this morning. I am leaving work early to go over and let him out. Hopefully there will be NO MESSES to clean up! Latter.

Now that the Iditarod is over, it’s back to business with the walk down memory lane.

    The Astrid Case!

To bring you up-to-date, the Astrid Case was posted almost daily by PSQA. The case progressed and we were all wrapped up in it. Then one day it stopped, never finished and never to be posted again, but that’s a story for another day.

Rio did a write-up of the case which had become convoluted. This straightened it out.

(the dash after wp makes it break to a new line. Take the dash out, copy and paste, then put the dash back in.)

Also, for the Astrid Case, Kirby made a flow chart.

    12:36 pm on March 23rd, 2015

Boobear, Thank you for your vote of confidence. Sammy got into the garbage before the pet sitter took over, so it did happen on Kelly’s watch. They have 3 dogs, and our house is just too small to accomodate 5 dogs, especially when two are Newfies. Plus Sammy is so limited with getting up and down due to his back leg problem. He is going to have surgery in 2 weeks and then will be a different dog. I think he is much better off at his home, with his pack rather than being put in a different environment. And I won’t take my two and stay there, because they do not have an above ground fence.

Ditto to what Tupper’s mom said about the Iditarod and the finish line. She said it much better than I could.

Merci beaucoup pour le livre! (Sorry- high school French)

In the Astrid case, was the dead body left in the freezer? Or did he get out before the case dangled? I would hate to think that he was left in the freezer. Yucko!

Hooray that all the mushers and dog teams are off the trail, getting fed and caught up on their sleep. Hooray that Cindy Abbott made it to the burled arch! She actually had more of a crowd than many of the middle of the pack mushers like OFM. It is a shame the way the ITC pays no attention to the middle and back of the pack. You almost have to die to get any coverage!

Thanks for the time machine. However Astrid was before our time on this here blog, and if it is an unresolved case, we are not going to read it. It would make us crazy to not have an ending.

Mama just came home with a new toy – a dehydrator. She has visions of making her own jerky, and chemical free veggie and fruit chips. We say what’s the point? We would be happy to eat up any fresh meat or fruits and veggies that happen our way.

    Tense! Good one, Bee.
Astrid was before our time too. Everything seems to be before our time.

T&G, Pop has a dehydrator, which he bought for the sole purpose of making beef jerkey for us us us. He uses their super delicious ground beef from the 1/4 side beef they buy. No steroids, no hormones, nothing bad. Grass-fed, but finished on grain. Does he love us, or what? It is very yummy. He has also used that dehydrator to make our cayenne pepper flakes, and now he makes potato chips with it. Today, he bought a mandolin slicer so he can cut those chips super thin.

  39. Herd of Hounds
    6:30 pm on March 23rd, 2015

    Tense! I love it.

O’Howlers: The man who lives in this house got into dehydrating things for awhile. He bought a dehydrater called the “Excalibur” and now we have dehydrated garlic, mushrooms, onions, peppers, tomatoes, apples, and I don’t know what all.

My big and little sisters and my niece and her fiance have been at the Mpls homestead going through what is left of the old homestead for the last week or so. The librarian mainly concentrated on the books. She’s back home now and I will go down in a week and divest of some more stuff that Dad no longer needs. He will be moving out of his house and into a residence Staff found that will have only 3 (I think that’s right) clients and is close to the house of the one friend who still visits Dad.
The old homestead is up for sale. I hope I still have a bed to sleep in by the time I get there.

Dawson and Staff – we echo the Howlers sentiments. we are sorry that things have to be like this for any of our elders, but you are doing the right thing and it will assure that your Dad gets all the care he needs 24/7.

Thanks for the encouragement on the dehydrator. Mama is hooked on jerky herself, and can’t stand to pay the prices. Plus she worries about buying jerky for us, and wants to make her own for the reasons you stated. The Storyteller is dreaming about dried strawberries and grapes and other goodies. Time will tell. she bought a cheap little started kind of machine; if she does end up liking it, she may step up to a more powerful, larger one.

Hello All–Back from spreading Wisdom and Knowledge and on my way to do something similar at the library.
I’ve been a sporadic participant, which is why it’s taken me so long to get around to saying THANK YOU C. HOBBIT FOR THE COOL STUFF FROM ALASKA (I really was the envy of the library Saturday).
In fact, a big THANK YOU to everyone on this blog and at Snowhook for tolerating a rather strange and operatic member of this blog family.
May we all have a wonderful Spring. Starting now if not already in progress.

Thank you Hobbit, for the nifty packet of Iditagoodies. I finally got up the energy to go out to the mailbox before the postman called for a welfare check on me. It is just too disheartening to open up to more bills and junk, so I put it off forever, and then something wonderful shows up! Yea!

I found out today that we are graded on our speed as cashiers. Oy vey. My store also sells clothes, some of which, but not all, contain security devices. Therefore, you have to search each piece and remove the device, or not. A good score is 20. Mine was 6.5. Other items such as razors and pregnancy tests are also in secure containers. I am trying not to stress over it, because I can only go so fast. period. end of sentence.

  57. Mpop's and Loulou's Mom
    8:31 pm on March 23rd, 2015

ML, also 20 items per minutes is 3 seconds each. That is attainable if each one is just a quick scan like a can of corn. Your IPM of 6.5 is great if you’re doing things like clothing. You can scan 6 tee shirts in 1 minute? Ten seconds each? That’s fantastic!
