Bastille Day At Last!
Happy Bastille Day, a French holiday celebrating the Chet et Bernie series (Chet and Bernie, in English). Below is a picture of Parisians lining up to buy SCENTS AND SENSIBILITY, the brand new book in le series (the series, in English).
Tonight at 7 PM: Launch party at Eight Cousins in Falmouth Mass. Y’all viens! (Y’all come!)
And note from Admin: a series, yes, but the books can be read in any order.

Hip Hip Hurray for Bastille Day (and all the other good things that are happening today)! Certainly a big day in the publishing world, and don’t you think it was really thoughtful of Harper Lee to choose the same publication date for Go Set A Watchman as OFA had selected for Sense and Sensibility. Additionally, just about one hour ago, New Horizons completed its historic fly-by past the planet (excuse me, I am showing my age, the almost planet) Pluto, which other than going to the moon, is probably the greatest exploratory achievement to date in terms of mankind’s exploration of space. And to cap it off tonight, we even have the All-Star game in Cincinnati (go National League — sorry Spence).

Oops, that should have been Scents, not Sense. Just checking to see if everyone is paying attention.

Happy Bastille Day! We got an email from Amazon that SAS is on our Kindle. Momma says we must wait until our August vacation to read it together.
Vive Chet!!!!

Good morning. July 14th at last!
W&T’s Dad, We didn’t even notice your faux pas. We loved your pictures, by the way.
Made it thru the storm without any damage. We ended up with more rain than wind, however it was still a little scary.
Maggie went missing last night. I knew she couldn’t have gotten outside but I was still starting to panic when I couldn’t find her. Finally found her under the bed in the guestroom (a first). She must have gone in when I opened the door to put something in there. Evidently she was concerned about the approaching storm.

Good morning to all y’all. You are ahead of us. Wowser, the day we have been waiting for. Go Chet! Go OFA! Oh, and yes, the Harper Lee book.
Quite a Tuesday in our opinion.
9:28 am on July 14th, 2015
Happy Publishing Day to OFA! Happy reading to his fans.
Barb – glad you are safe and sound. We think Maggie was just acting out some of the suspense scenes in past Chet books – under the guest room bed is much easier than doing the whole alligator-in-the-swamp scene.
We will be heading to the Cape this weekend for a show in OFA’s home town. Hope he isn’t too busy on his Grand Tour to stop by and visit.

Bastille Day, Pluto Fly-By, Scents and Sensibility in our Mailbox Today.
Hurray, Hurray, Hurray!!!
9:38 am on July 14th, 2015
Yippee!! One week and one day until Mom gets to listen to OFA at Murder by the Book. She’s right in the middle of a book right now but is considering breaking away to read S&S. Decisions, Decisions!!
9:49 am on July 14th, 2015
Bastille Day and, as DianeC pointed out, an excuse for wine and pastries.
Do we need an excuse?
Barb: Since you don’t have a storm cellar, Maggie thought that under the bed was the next best thing. Glad to hear youse are safe.
BooBear: Tell your mom to read SAS. There might be a quiz.
T&G: Paws crossed OFA will stop by this weekend. You could even put up a sign: Surprise visit by New York Times best selling author.
Don’t miss it!
10:01 am on July 14th, 2015
Masquers – remember the first time we did this show? We mentioned it to OFA and hoped he would come. We had a sign up that identified our booth as The Official Chet and Bernie Fan Club Headquarters.
OFA got a chuckle out of that.
10:07 am on July 14th, 2015
T and G’s mama, We hope to sign works again if you use it. We are also waiting to hear from the corgis has a new bed is.
10:10 am on July 14th, 2015
We have heardAnyone planning to read it? the Atticus Finch appears to be a bigot and a fraud in this first book. Many fans of TKAMB are despaired over this.
Aren’t Rosenfelt’s new books coming out this week as well?
10:14 am on July 14th, 2015
Maybe we should proof before hitting submit! “Anyone planning to read it?” is supposed to be the last sentence in that paragraph! Duh!
10:14 am on July 14th, 2015
It’s on my Kindle! I’m going to read it slowly.
Good morning all.
10:21 am on July 14th, 2015
Tupper’s Mama: and OFA showed up as triplets! Spence, Admin, and PA.

Mom wants an unsend button.

Barb,Magpie,Lucy: Oh, NO! It is one of our Favorite Books.
The Sacrilege of it! Will we read it? Time will tell.
This revelation definitely puts a damper on things.
Hounds: Heh, heh. Yeah…that last one was a Doozy. š
11:02 am on July 14th, 2015
B: Thanks for the Google Doodle Tip of the Day…Neat Pluto Flyby!
11:03 am on July 14th, 2015
Speaking of someone who loves Google Doodles…where is our Good Friend Wose?
11:15 am on July 14th, 2015
Bonjour tout le monde et bonne fete (sans terreur). I have to defer my wine and pastries to August but I wish you all a happy day (and yes, BSD–where is Wose?)
A holiday and a summer noir mystery! What could be better?
11:34 am on July 14th, 2015
We were just thinking about Rose this morning. Has anyone been in touch with her?
Waiting for Kelly. She is coming up to get my sofa reject that I bought last year. It is on the way to her basement for Ben’s game room. Then she is taking me to lunch. Something healthy and relatively low-cal.
BTW, the pound count is now up to 10. A pound a week seems slow, but then it took me 10 years to gain it, so 10 months to lose it isn’t so bad, I guess.
12:04 pm on July 14th, 2015
Spence: Happy Bastille Day! Your French is improving day by day.
Finally Scents and Sensibility is here! Well, not here but hopefully in the mail. I better call the bookstore and make sure. Sparkling grape juice for everyone!
Barb, Maggie & Lucy: Congratulations! A pound loss a week sounds reasonable. Not too fast, not too slow.
Wose: Hoping you have S&S in paw and check in with us soon.
12:11 pm on July 14th, 2015
Oh yeah, also…
hurray for the Pluto fly-by!
My favorite dwarf planet.
12:41 pm on July 14th, 2015
Isn’t Pluto and non-planet now?
1:18 pm on July 14th, 2015
No Pluto is still happily living at Disney World, wagging at the tourists
1:30 pm on July 14th, 2015
YES! Good to hear.
5:17 pm on July 14th, 2015
Watching a storm come off the Cumberland Escarpment š Chance of hail, straight line winds and LOTS of rain. Here is hoping it does the Chattanooga split.
5:56 pm on July 14th, 2015
OFA’s Book tour starts in a bit over an hour at the Eight Cousins in Falmouth. Mom wishes she could focus, but no, an eye infection is preventing that so it is up to us to help. WRONG…big boomers here so we think dinner under the bed is AOK. Can we vote on that? HOH’s paws in the air! Dive, dive dive…
7:27 pm on July 14th, 2015
Barb, Maggie & Lucy: Poor Maggie! Is there such a thing as earplugs for dogs? They would be of great use during firework season.
I can hardly believe my good luck, S&S was in the mail today. I am still reading Woof. My cup runneth over.
HOH: Ouch! Take care of your eye infection, pronto.
So far, mister still has not mentioned the apple tree!! However, he was watching very closely this afternoon when brother-in-law came to take a few things in a load to the dump and picked up the now shriveled branches of the apple tree from the back alley where I had hid the evidence, saying, “Might as well throw this in.”
8:01 pm on July 14th, 2015

We are looking forward to Amazon Prime Day tomorrow – wonder if there will be any special books to buy…..hmmmmm?
8:36 pm on July 14th, 2015
T&G, perhaps the Harper Lee?
9:09 pm on July 14th, 2015
Buddy where are you and Leno and that beautiful little puppy and your Melanie and your daughter who screw is not loose? Rose where are you and Grizz? And Siber’s Ma? So many of our friends are MIA.
9:40 pm on July 14th, 2015
Queenie!…Explain the Prime Day to me …snort!…Are there freebies to be acquired?…snuffle!
9:43 pm on July 14th, 2015
Rio, I think you have to pay $99. annually to join Prime.
9:44 pm on July 14th, 2015
Gah!…And Gasp!….spit!
10:02 pm on July 14th, 2015
Is that right? I think MPM is a member too. Give us some details. Reduced or free shipping is one benefit, I believe.
10:04 pm on July 14th, 2015
Saying good night.
10:16 pm on July 14th, 2015
Rio – Amazon Prime Day is supposed to give huge discounts for Prime Members who already get free shipping. They say deals will be bigger than Bkack Friday.
Yes, Prime Membership does cost $99 a year BUT you can get a free trial membership for 30 days to see if you like the perks of Prime.
Sign up tonight and you can shop your puggy little heart out tomorrow at big discount.
And just so you know, walmart is firing back by doing huge discounts on their online site tomorrow too, with the codicil that any purchase over $35 ships free, and there is no membership involved.
Of course walmart doesn’t have anywhere near the merchandise of Amazon.
Being the Shopping BullDozer, I plan to do some serious cruising on both sites tomorrow.
10:22 pm on July 14th, 2015
Shop!…I am not supposed to shop alone…sniff!…That is the rule. Sort of like not leaving the backyard….grunt!
10:26 pm on July 14th, 2015
Rio – go for it. Live on the wild side.
Did you know that Amazon sells Slim Jims by the case?
10:43 pm on July 14th, 2015
Tupper’s Mama, you are evil. Now Rio will be plotting. My copy of S&S was signed and pawtographed at Eight Cousins tonight and they promise shipping tomorrow!
I am being patient. I had a copy pawtographed for Dawson too but evidently she doesn’t need it…We really should talk more. Maybe she can send her unpawtographed copy to A Catty and I can send Dawson the one I got. Or maybe I can give the pawtographed one to A Catty when I see her later this month.
I had a cortisone shot in the thumb today and after a few days of an achy thumb I should be able to bend it without having it stick bent. I was very brave. Both the doctor and the nurse told me that. snicker.
11:01 pm on July 14th, 2015
Tupper’s Mama, Thanks for the heads up on Amazon Prime day. I have had a busy “Grammie” day. Poor Hazel has the amazing diaper rash. My daughter said the treatment nowadays is liquid Gaviscon or any stomach antacid dabbed right on the rash. I picked that up and a few other supplies and dropped them off. I also held her for the longest time. I love this!
11:11 pm on July 14th, 2015
Staff: Thank you! If the book is not pawtographed “to Dawson” then you might as well send the book to A Catty Librarian. This is the first book from Spencer that I do not have pawtographed but I do have it on “opening day.”
11:40 pm on July 14th, 2015
Of course it is pawtographed to Dawson. I mentioned it on the blog a few days ago but the news of that day was the tree being hatcheted so you missed it. snicker. Any news on the apple tree front?
12:13 am on July 15th, 2015
Staff: I’m reading every third word and then forgetting what it was a minute later these daze. I’d ordered about a month ago, at the same time I ordered Woof. Well, send it to her to read and she can save it for me.
The apple tree: Another branch has broken off! Now I’m thinking this tree is diseased or something. I mentioned it twice to mister but he was in one of those not-listening modes so I just left it for tomorrow. This is a branch that has a lot of apples, unlike the other branches that “fell off”. The man who lives in this house has not noticed the tree at all.
