Baseball’s Back!
“So it’s officially spring and that’s that,” says Admin. “Ready with your World Series picks?”
“Tigers versus Giants,” Spence says. “Let Timmy smoke!”
“Whoa.”

Sigh!
Good morning all.
9:43 am on April 2nd, 2012
Baseball!…I think Spencer is confused!…snort!…April Fools Day was yesterday…chuffle!…Tigers vs Giants – please!…heh!heh!
9:52 am on April 2nd, 2012
I do NOT believe that Timmy should smoke. That is my own opinion.
(whispering: Who is Timmy and why would he smoke?)
It’s a relatively calm day here on the ol’ homestead. Paws, claws, fingers and toes crossed that it stays that way.
YSAS is going to be fitted today and have a haircut. From the 1950’s to the 1960’s. He will be background in the Ali film that is being shot. He’ll be in it in the next two weeks.
By The Way, he is in a short play in a series called “DEBT” with The Drilling Company.
He starts the series two days before my birthday and a certain Pug’s Birthday!
9:53 am on April 2nd, 2012
Greetings All!
Yankee opening day is April 5!!! WoooHooooo!
Rio! I am always interested in who your picks are. Any predictions?
10:08 am on April 2nd, 2012
It would be great if is really the Tigers.
10:13 am on April 2nd, 2012
We of course ditto Bee. Sigh…
It is hi and bye this morning. Barb is finishing up chores, loading up 8 doz eggs, some cookies, 5 coolers and heading in to the burbs. Will be picking up our Berkshire pig order on the way, and driving in to split that up with Kelly and Jessica. Can’t wait to try it. Pork chop on the menu tonight!
Kelly made it thru her trip to Florida with out too much stress. Joey did ok while they were gone, but it is a relief to be back.
Bike shop doing great – March receipts were almost half of what Wally did for the entire last year of business! Josh is going to try another of his bkie rides all the way to our place in late April. Remember, last year he made it 76 of the 90 miles here. He has been training to do it again.
Later, gators.
10:16 am on April 2nd, 2012
And I ditto Rose. Go Yankees!
10:27 am on April 2nd, 2012
Rhyming slang. Later, gators. In a while, crocodile. Love you too, kangaroo (this one was made up by me and my guys)
Interesting. Thank Dog, American rhyming slang isn’t as difficult as the Cockney.
As in “I’m going apples.” Huh? Well, the rhyming phrase is “Apples and Pears”. Pears rhymes with stairs, but you drop the pears and just use the Apples.
Right. So actually “I’m going upstairs”. That’s from Wikipedia. I know when I’m watching things done by the BBC, it can really be confusing.
So Tootle-loo, cockatoo!
10:28 am on April 2nd, 2012
Oh noooooo – Steve is a baseball fan too??? Oh dear – looks like we are in for a heck of a season.
Bee – you can come over here for coffee or tea or whatever – we absolutely promise – no baseball talk, no baseball tv or radio, and no baseball toys in the bed!
Melanie – he got the background job?? WOOOO HOOOOO! Two whole weeks of work!
Barb – that is great news about the bike shop. You deserve to be very proud. Let us know when little Joshie is on his bike so we can all get behind him for support.
Mama is waiting (im)patiently for the sun to come out and it to warm up so she can go work on her bear.
10:36 am on April 2nd, 2012
‘Morning All.
Dreary day here. How we would LOVE to see sunshine and warm temperatures.
Barb&Magpie: So happy to hear the bike shop is doing so well. Now, if you only could sell your house……..Maybe today is that day. Paws crossed.
Melanie: Lots of work for YSAS! This is Very Good!!!
(whispering) what’s up with FOTM? Where’s Sierra? Sorry Rakash, but it is the 2nd already. Time to say adieu.
10:39 am on April 2nd, 2012
or is it Raksha? they never did correct the spelling on your name.
10:39 am on April 2nd, 2012
Princess Sam: It is nice to have you on my side!!!!
10:42 am on April 2nd, 2012
Nope, not that background work. Same film but he’s a messenger for a Court. Just one or two days. Which is okay since he also has coat check and a play he’s doing!
10:59 am on April 2nd, 2012
BASEBALL!!!
Timmy needs to have a better year this year than he had last season.
lol That is funny…let Timmy smoke. I get it.
RIO!!! Ubaldo trashed Tulo’s elbow. GAH
11:05 am on April 2nd, 2012
T&G: I think that you and I should come up with a topic we can write about here on the blog that will bore the baseball fans! Let’s discuss it when I come over for tea or coffee.
11:11 am on April 2nd, 2012
I’m with Rose and Sammie – go Yankees! Our blog baseball talk always seems to be about the West Coast – I wonder how that happens.
11:11 am on April 2nd, 2012
Here’s more Cockney rhyming slang: whistle and flute = suit; tit for tat = hat; half-inch = pinch/steal; tea leaf = thief.
“Which of you tea-leaves has half-inched my whistle and tit?” [Which of you thieves has pinched my suit and hat?]
(I can’t remember where I found this.)
11:18 am on April 2nd, 2012
A national sports writer picked Philadelphia and the Texas Rangers for the World Series with the Rangers winning. It could happen, but probably not.
GO ROCKIES!!!!
I’ll try to stay off baseball for the rest of the day.
11:22 am on April 2nd, 2012
BEE! Such language on the blog! tut tut tut
Here’s a subject we could discuss – symbolism in English literature as evidenced in Wuthering Heights and other writings of the Bronte sisters as opposed to symbolism in Native American teaching stories of the Southwest Athabaskan Nations.
It would be fascinating for us – and Rio for sure would be snorting and gah-ing over that!
11:29 am on April 2nd, 2012
Siber-H will just ignore it.
11:33 am on April 2nd, 2012
T&G: I love it! Seriously, I would love to read the Native American stories. Where would I find them? I’d also like to reread the Bronte sisters. (I visited the Parsonage once….very gloomy. In the museum there they display the “books” that the sisters wrote before they published novels. The books are two inches high by one inch wide and they actually wrote stories in them.)
11:35 am on April 2nd, 2012
I’ve written my definition of baseball before on the blog but will do so again because it gives me a bit of satisfaction.
Baseball: Men in uniform; incomprehensible rules; hours on end when nothing happens except spitting, scratching and adjusting.
11:41 am on April 2nd, 2012
Stover, The rules aren’t incomprehensible if you have been a baseball fan all your life, but I will agree with the rest of it.
Rio, The Rockies website is reporting that Tulo’s elbow is okay.
11:44 am on April 2nd, 2012
Rockies!….Opening day is one week from today!….Wooooo!…I didn’t think it would ever arrive, but it might after all…heh!heh!….They kick off the season playing the Giants….snort!
11:51 am on April 2nd, 2012
We will add our 2 cents: Go Phillies!!!!
Sorry, B, B&M, and T&G. Good morning to all. Hello Sierra.
11:52 am on April 2nd, 2012
It’s actually Morse’s definition of cricket but I added the final five words.
11:54 am on April 2nd, 2012
I want to go to school with B.Stover and T&G. Ummm, there will be no reading of books that small though! Jeez Louise, my eyes just hurt thinking about it.
11:56 am on April 2nd, 2012
I can’t wait for the first Rockie’s game either. I am keeping all paws crossed for that 49 year old pitcher.
I know, I know, I said I’d try to stay off baseball for the rest of the day, but, really, Spence started this whole discussion.
11:59 am on April 2nd, 2012
Bee – there a number of books about Native American stories written by Joseph Bruchac that are pretty comprehensive. His sister lives in this area, and is recognized as an expert on New England Natives.
Amazon has many books – only ones we know for sure to stay away from as total twaddle are the ones by Twyla Nitsch and Bobby Thom. There may be others that are bunkum, but we haven’t read them all.
Not too common to find stories from the southwest – most of the people there hold things like that pretty close to the chest.
12:02 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Definitely!…Let the spitting, scratching and adjusting begin!….WOOOOOOOO!…
Injured!…Tulo’s arm better be okay or we will be sobbing all season…sniffle!
12:04 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Dear Siber – we won’t female dog (that’s Corgi slang) too much about baseball talk – after all, you don’t complain when we all talk recipes, and we know how you feel about that subject.
12:35 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Tupper!…Ask Golinka if that kick-ass hotel room she got in Cape Cod has enough room for Beau too…sniff!…He said he wants to go with us…heh!
12:44 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Oh no!
Spence picked the Tigers (and Giants) to go to the Series? That’s like a death knell for Detroit.
On the bright side: Steve is a Tigers fan. WhoooHooo! Go Tigers!
The sun is shining and the snow melt is creating rivers. I’m for a walk.
12:47 pm on April 2nd, 2012
There you are. Welcome Sierra!!! (You had a good reign, Raksha)
Tupper&Gilly: You’ve told us which Native American books to avoid. Are there certain ones you would recommend?
12:53 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Royals: Never mind. I see your Joseph Bruchac recommendation above.
1:06 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Just in time for Easter…Hopping down the bunny trail.
1:08 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Rio – we think there is a bread box in the kitchenette – that is big enough for Beau to sleep in, right?
BearSpiritDog – we admit that we don’t read a lot of books about Native American stories and that. We read art books and keep reference books to check out authenticity of what we make or see. And we read novels about Native life, such as Tony Hillerman.
We have found that many Native people, when interviewed for books go one of two ways. Either they make up stuff so that the real cultural ideas don’t go out into the world, or they tend to become stereotypical in speech patterns and ideology. It is a double edged sword – we understand the protection of cultural ideas, but worry about those things being lost over time.
And the stereotype thing? We think it is a defense mechanism for people who have been brought up not to brag or talk about themselves, who are now being asked to do just that.
There is a good magazine that covers a lot of Native news. It is called “This Week from Indian Country Today” and there is also a web site:
http://www.IndianCountryTodayMediaNetwork.com
1:10 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Masquers – that is one ugly bunny. We think we will just forego the whole easter egg hunt thing….
1:21 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Royals: Thank you for the link. Many interesting articles.
1:23 pm on April 2nd, 2012
FAST BUNNY ( I did not do this one)
1:35 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Melanie: That’s funny!
1:39 pm on April 2nd, 2012
One of last night’s 4×4 winners was from Everett, WA.
Close, but no cigar.
1:40 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Masquers: That poor
bunnypug.Melanie: That photo is just not right!
1:44 pm on April 2nd, 2012
I believe it’s the Wild Wildibunny of the Western MA Hills.
The Pack sure have been barking at something lately!
1:45 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Dawson: Scary isn’t it. The name Thumper comes to mind.
1:46 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Masquers: That bunny looks like Rodney Dangerfield!
1:48 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Um, could the Royals Mum please check your SDD RIGHT NOW?
2:05 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Gah!…Bizarre Bunnies!…snort!
2:22 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Melanie, can you check SDD please?
2:56 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Done and done, Wölfie!
3:11 pm on April 2nd, 2012
MPM: Look at us three Yankee girls! Yes, we do need to start talking more about EAST Coast baseball!!!!
3:15 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Controversy!….Big controversy as to whether Ubaldo hit Tulo on purpose or not!…grunt!…Very interesting…sniff!
3:17 pm on April 2nd, 2012
I give up. What is SDD?
3:36 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Steve, SDD stands for email.
3:39 pm on April 2nd, 2012
The Rockies seem to think that Ubaldo hit Tulo on purpose.
4:11 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Steve: SDD is short for Secret Decoder Device. It took me a while to figure that one out when I first came to Chet’s.
BSD and Masquers: please check your SDD.
4:23 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Hi Rebbecca:
Nice to have you and AJ back!! Hope your date night was nice!
4:31 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Rebecca (see I do know how to spell your name!) 🙂
Belle Starr was a little disappointed to leave this morning(she sulked, and batted his big browns) just as I was reluctant to let her go. I told Belle Starr that mama Rebecca missed her very much, and that she and Luna are always welcome at our place. Luna put her paw down about me and Belle doing any sparkly stuff on-line shopping, so we both sulked.
(whispering) There is a package coming at you for the cutest, most adorable, most wonderful girl in the world.
4:33 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Steve: SDD actually stands for “secret decoder device” and as SH said, is email.
Rose: You really don’t need to start talking about east coast baseball…..
4:35 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Sorry, Rebecca. I didn’t see your earlier explanation of SDD.
4:36 pm on April 2nd, 2012
You guys are forgetting a very important East Coast baseball fan…Spence.
BTW Rio and I do not live on the West Coast.
4:41 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Rebecca, It was Gus&Boobear who asked for a signed photo for the butcher.
4:48 pm on April 2nd, 2012
The butcher, the musher, the baked goods maker…
Rose: I’m glad I put Luna in charge.
6:02 pm on April 2nd, 2012
I wouldn’t have guessed (secret decoder device.)
6:45 pm on April 2nd, 2012

Dog in dogwork – you are beautiful but my, what big teeth you have…the better to catch Slim Jim’s?
6:56 pm on April 2nd, 2012
B: I’ll whisper when I talk about East Coast baseball.
6:58 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Handsome dog, but very big teeth.
Mollypop’s Mom: The northern NM mountains are going to get a foot of fresh snow.
7:04 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Steve – don’t worry. You will get used to all our code words and slang. We keep talking about writing a dictionary , but then there’s all these new words start coming up.
Just to clue you in on some stuff:
No one on this here blog is plump or pudgy or chubby. There are some of us however who are a little more “fluffy” than others.
But “fluffy” is not to be confused with “poufy” which as any Plunderer can tell you actually means very, very fierce.
See- it’s easy.
7:05 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Yes, Luna really knows how to put a paw down!
7:09 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Let’s all cheer for no-coast baseball. Go Rangers!!!!!!
See, my cat-dog post yesterday was right with today’s pics.
Time to drag out “Quacky Baseball”.
7:11 pm on April 2nd, 2012
And to get “All poodled up” can be either to get all upset, or to get all beautified, aka Wonderfluffed.
7:14 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Rose: There is a reason she is the matriarch of the kennel. Ain’t no one mess with mama. When she was younger if were training yearlings in the team we would take Luna along in the wheel positing (closest to the sled). If a dog was acting up or misbehaving we put him or her next to Luna where she would have the what-every-pup-should-know-about-being-a-dog talk. It didn’t matter of they were her offspring or not. She has a firm but loving paw.
Steve: you also don’t need to be a poodle to be poodled up. Being poodled up means you have a bee under yor collar about something or other.
7:15 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Macy beat me to it. Hello miss min-pin!
7:16 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Siber-H and BlueCat: The better to catch the perps with.
7:19 pm on April 2nd, 2012
We are back and getting ready to eat dinner and watch the new season of Bones, starting tonight. Barb loves that show.
Steve, it does take a little bit to get used to us. Just ask any time you are confused. We don’t mind ‘splainin.
T & G, you mentioned Tony Hillerman. I think we read almost all of his later books. Sad to think there will be no more. We watched Navajo Cops (On Natgeo, I think) a couple of times. The names of some of the police and locations are the same names we remember in the Hillerman books.
7:23 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Tupper&Gilly: The link you posted earlier alerted us to what is now breaking news: the death of runner Micah True.
7:26 pm on April 2nd, 2012
SnowBella: SDD received and acknowledged.
7:31 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Rebecca: She taught me well!
BTW: Special delivery delivered!
7:35 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Steve, Wonderfluff is what I get every other week at the groomers. Alice Magnolia Johnson, the Kat, who owns Staff, secretly uses Tail Fluff, but she won’t admit it.
7:39 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Bear, that is a beautiful dog. We never knew what frisbees were for…now we see, altho we don’t plan to do any catching.
Mom needs PP (Plunderer Prayers) tonight. Shiek has not been feeling well since last week. He has a vey high fever and is off his feed for several days now. He just got an antibiotic shot as well as one for pain. We aren’t sure if this still has to do with all that hot weather we were having 2 weeks ago, or the annual Spring shots from last week. Given his advanced age, Mom is very worried.
7:48 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Howlers: No need to ask twice.
7:49 pm on April 2nd, 2012
We love the slo-mo video of the frisbee catching Malinois. Super cool!
7:50 pm on April 2nd, 2012
OH: Powerful prayers for Shiek from Westchetser.
7:56 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Steve – There are lots of SDD’s going on all the time. I never get them. If you don’t get one, don’t feel left out.
8:14 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Fellow Sibers, Shiek is in our prayers. Feel better Shiek.
8:23 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Melanie is having trouble getting on the blog and she wants me to say “good night” for her.
8:31 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Melanie: TTFN.
Howlers: Please keep us posted on Sheik. I’ve spent many long nights caring for sick animals. The stress and worry us enough to keep you awake through exhaustion of body and spirit.
MPM: I always consider it a wonderful surprise to receive a SDD from a Plunderer!
8:34 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Why oh why doesn’t this blog let us post a picture from our iPaw?
8:40 pm on April 2nd, 2012
I also had trouble getting on the blog.
Rio, Ubaldo has been suspended for 5 games. The officials must believe he deliberately threw the ball at Tulo.
8:53 pm on April 2nd, 2012
MollyPop’s Mom – please check your SDD
9:01 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Ubaldo!… From what little I could see on the news clip, it did look like Ubaldo did it on purpose…sniff!….But that is hard for us here to believe because Ubaldo is such a sweet guy and the thought of him using his arm to purposely hurt another player doesn’t ring true to his nature….snort!sneeze!
9:02 pm on April 2nd, 2012
OH — special prayers for Shiek coming from here in Chevy Chase.
Beautiful day here. Temp in the low 60s. Went to a neat place in Virginia near Fredericksburg called Governors Island and had a great walk there. Even saw some bald eagles but mom wouldn’t let me chase them. But lots of fun anyway, and dad is off work for the week so everyday should be a fun adventure.
Wookie
9:08 pm on April 2nd, 2012
OleyHowlers: Prayers are being said for Shiek. We love you Shiek.
9:10 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Sam, you princess you, I do not use wonderfluff. That is just a story started by Rio, that evil pug, because he is jealous of my wonderful marvelous tail.

(Hi Steve)
9:11 pm on April 2nd, 2012
O.Howlers: Many prayers are coming your way for Shiek. When he rests tonight the Quilt will be there too, giving him joyful dreams of running like the wind.
Wookie: A Week of Wonderful Walks. What could be better.
Walks…speaking of which…it’s such a nice evening…..
(we’ll be back tomorrow – Bear)
9:16 pm on April 2nd, 2012
I still think Alice is missing key parts of her spine. There is no other explanation for being able to stretch like she does—of course, it could be be that I’m just jealous because of the bolts that hold me together keep me from getting a good stretch in every now and then.
Dawson: I didn’t something foolish. I didn’t put the correct postage on your picture from Nome so it came back to us. I will resend. Don’t think you were forgotten.
Speaking if Noswad, when and where are we having her retirement party?
9:25 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Alice Magnolia Johnson: You are a true Glamourpuss…a feline model so in vogue…of such great beauty…tales untold……
9:28 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Vacation!….Wookie, your Paw has a whole week off from the busy-place?…snort!….What a great deal for you pal! You will have fun!fun!fun! every day all day long…heh!…I love it when my friend stays home with me for days and days…sniff!…She won’t do that again till sometime around our birthdays…grunt!
9:29 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Masquers: Bear must be an early to bed, early to rise sort of four-legged. Are you a night owl?
9:31 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Alice!….That photo proves that Alice is a spineless hussy!…heh!….She is Not to be trusted….sniff!
9:42 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Thank you Rebecca, and to Rio “splort.”
I wonder if Steve knows what splort means? 😀
Staff had a difficult time getting home from work today. The 14 year old van decided to splutter to a stop in a busy street. She got it off to the side before it died and had to wait for AAA to come and tow her away.
Now it MIGHT be that the 230,000 mile van just needs gas as the gauges haven’t worked reliably for years and lately for the last month so she doesn’t know how much is in there. But she had trouble starting it the last week and so told the garage to tune it up and put some gas in it and call her in the morning. (Mr.Staff says it shouldn’t be gas as he put some in recently)
She will know more tomorrow.
9:59 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Alice!…Sticks and Stones may break my bones but Splorts will never hurt me…heh!heh!
10:04 pm on April 2nd, 2012
No, but splorts can be a pain to clean out of one’s fur.
10:09 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Alice Magnolia Johnson in her classic yoga pose…the Glamourpuss with the beautiful tail.
10:14 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Sending up prayers for Shiek. Hope he feels better tomorrow.
Alice, your van might not respond so well to prayers. 230k is a lot of miles.
Going to read for a bit and then “hit the hay”. Night all.
10:15 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Alice – va va va VOOM!!!
(and we have even been to the v e t to be “tutored”)
Hello Bella – we almost got to meet you yesterday. Dam Corgis got ahold of a big box and packing tape while we were…ummmm…under the influence of some wild catnip.
But don’t worry – Mama caught them. And while she was lecturing them on their bad behavior, she didn’t notice us carrying the box and tape away for later use….
We do have your correct zip code, right?
10:20 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Clean-Up!….That’s okay, I’m a Wash n’ Wear kind of guy…heh!…Alice, too bad you weren’t driving that van instead of Staff!….grunt!
10:22 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Bella: I have been known to stay awake very late on special occasions. Watching little green flags inching slowly across the screen to name one.
Oops! It appears a partial Double Dawson hath slipped through the blog cracks. Saved only by a flip to the next page. Perhaps no one noticed?
10:25 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Package!….Should we expect Snowhook to be home to a couple of Corgis soon?…snort!…Is this what I am gleening from the Kats gobblity-goo post?…heh!
10:27 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Maskers!…No Double Dawson…sniff!…Alice just likes to display her spineless self at any opportunity she can get….huffle!
10:34 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Aww Rio – don’t feel bad. Alice may be spineless, but you are our one and only fluffy, poufy pug.
giggle
10:49 pm on April 2nd, 2012
You said it Basil and Sage. (By the way you might be interested that our Garlic and Chives are up in the garden)
Staff says to send best wishes to Shiek. Hoping for the best there. The quilt is big enough for an Arabian Horse for sure. It fits everyone.
Goodnight all
10:52 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Alice – are Garlic and Chives two new kittens that are playing in your garden?
11:04 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Actor!…That actor who plays ‘Mayhem’ on all those insurance commercials should get a role in a real show soon….snort!…We love that guy…heh!heh!
Names!….Garlic and Chives are great names for Kats… Smelly!
11:05 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Dear Basil and Sage,
No, they are plants.
goodnight now…be good. 🙂
11:17 pm on April 2nd, 2012
Prayers for Shiek! Always worrisome when one of the senior plunderers feels under the weather.
Rebecca, it was us that requested a pic of AJ on the trail. The guys at the meat market were excited that their jerky was going on the Iditarod and they have other pics up in their shop. Maybe next year they will donate!
