“What’s with banning a certain type of dog?” Admin says. “How about banning a certain type of owner instead?”
“Easy now,” says Spence.

Greetings All!
Happy Egg Day!
Today, Prof and I are going to see ” Strangers on a Train” on the big screen, and have a nice dinner.
Belle Starr: Please see yesterday’s blog.
Rio! I think you asked me a question about a certain something last night, or my eyes were deceiving me. Anyway, i’ll do my best for you, pal!
9:40 am on February 17th, 2013
Happy Egg Day all.

9:49 am on February 17th, 2013
The authorities in Ontario should see the story about Babe.
Good morning all.
10:05 am on February 17th, 2013
Good article, Spence and Admin.
Happy Egg Day!
Banana Joe is coming up on The Morning Show.
10:08 am on February 17th, 2013
Happy Egg Day. We here agree with Admin: Certain types of owners should be banned; not certain breeds of our guys.
Plunderer prayers are once again needed for Shiek. He has beed feeling very bad since yesterday morning. He isn’t bouncing back fast like the other times. Mom is worried but not much she can do. They put the horses out even though it is very cold here today…just hoping that by moving around, he will feel a bit better.
10:17 am on February 17th, 2013
Thanks,Bluecat. We ordered our Race Program.
10:19 am on February 17th, 2013
Away and I had eggs this morning.
Shrek, feel better in that brisk breeze. I am about to head out for Poop Patrol. Need my Yaks today.
My brother had some boots I fell in love with called Mucks. They looked like Wellies but were insulated. Have to look those up on the interwebs. snicker.
Rest day of sorts. I’ll be interested in hearing from Th Royal Short Ones if it snowed Dow there. From th maps it looked like we were th cut off for the snow. Nary a flake!
Need to register and get my tickets!
10:21 am on February 17th, 2013
How does auto correct get “away” from “Patsy”? sigh
10:26 am on February 17th, 2013
Melanie, We heard that parts of Maine and Mass will get a foot of snow today. Maybe you lucked out.
Barb was talking to Baye and Lily about a card game called Authors that she played as a kid. Seems you can still buy it, so will check into ordering thru B&N. The conversation started when Lily told us she memorized Paul Rever’s Ride by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Barb asked her how long it took her to memorize it and she said “19 days”.
10:40 am on February 17th, 2013
Feel better Shiek. Good thoughts and positive energy heading your way.
10:50 am on February 17th, 2013
Wose: You snuck by under the radar. Happy Belated Birthday! You get to pull a name out of the hat at the Musher’s Banquet for a SK hat!? How cool.
Melanie: Soon’s I saw that sentence I knew you had eggs with somebody. Let’s see, “away” and “Patsy” do have an “a” and a “y” in common. (snicker)
Admin: I agree with you about banning a “certain type of owner”.
10:58 am on February 17th, 2013
BlueKat : Thanks for the race program information. The Prof and I are really, really, excited!
10:58 am on February 17th, 2013
Admin and I agree about owners also. Sniff. Especially after watching those youtube video’s staff mentioned yesterday.
Oops, Dad is up GTG.
BBL
10:59 am on February 17th, 2013
Dawson, you are very sneaky! : )
Where in the blog did it say that? I thought I was imagining things, but apparently it is true…..
11:32 am on February 17th, 2013
We also agree with Admin. If only some dog owners could be banned from ever owning dogs that would go a long way toward solving what is not a dog problem, but a people problem.
We hope Shiek gets to feeling better. Fellow Sibers, We know your mom is worried…prayers for Shiek.
Happy belated birthday, Rose. Husky Hugs!
11:52 am on February 17th, 2013
Rose: Here is a certain Plunderer leaving a message at your door last night:

Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday to Wose from the Plunderers!!!
P.S. We regret the Birthday Cake did not reach its destination.
11:57 am on February 17th, 2013
Happy birthday Rose.
11:58 am on February 17th, 2013
Where is that aforementioned cake, Riö? Security cameras do not lie. We suspect some of the River Bears are out of camera range.
Is that Franklin over there with the frosting on his face?

12:17 pm on February 17th, 2013
Siber-H – The Buffalo Sibers game starts in 15 minutes. We will have a tough time because we’re playing against Sydney Crosby. He is too good!
12:17 pm on February 17th, 2013
Happy Birdie, Rose! Are you telling how many candles are on your cake?
12:18 pm on February 17th, 2013
Riö! Check your SDD, por favor.
12:20 pm on February 17th, 2013
Thanks Mollypop’s Mom! I am cheering for the Buffalo Sibers!!
12:21 pm on February 17th, 2013
Rose!…Check your SDD for your special Birthday twirls!…heh!heh!
12:23 pm on February 17th, 2013
Maskers!…snort!…There was NO cake or I’d have eaten it…burp!
12:34 pm on February 17th, 2013
Woo hoo!! No snow down here!
We had a small herd of deer in the back yard last night. They are so magical. They seem to just appear in the trees and then in an instant, they have blended into the woods and are invisible. The fence is no more a deterrent than a barrier of mist. And then they are just gone as quickly as they came. sigh….so lovely.
And speaking of deer:
Hippo Birdie Two Ewe
Hippo Birdie Two Ewe
Hippo Birdie Deer Rosebud
Hippo Birdie Two Ewe.
tee hee
12:43 pm on February 17th, 2013
Happy Birthday, Wose!!
12:47 pm on February 17th, 2013
Wose: Happy birthday to my most, very best, special friend! I would make you a cake but my Two-legged says I’m not allowed to use the oven. Grump!
12:48 pm on February 17th, 2013
The Penguins scored just 35 seconds into the game. Siber-H, please stop watching.
12:51 pm on February 17th, 2013
Now Sydney Crosby scored. Siber-H, you are bad luck.
1:06 pm on February 17th, 2013
Happy Birthday, Rose!
I am impressed by that baseball player.
Gus is healing. His cone and bandages are off, off, off. He gets his stitches out next Saturday.
And I tested negative for heart worm! Hurrah for me!
1:10 pm on February 17th, 2013
sigh, I knew this would happen if I watched the Sibers game.
Wolfie, Good news for both you and Gus.
1:12 pm on February 17th, 2013
Happy Birthday to Rose! And many happy returns.
Pondering . . Just what does that mean? That you have fun returning the gifts you don’t want?
The washer decided to make this terrible noise when it was in the spin cycle. We thought it was going to become a space rocket. I tried everything to make the noise stop. No luck. Then I got the flashlight and looked BEHIND the washer. The radio had fallen back there and every time the washer started, it knocked the on switch jus enough for it to turn on. When the washer stopped it turned off. The radio was not on a station so all we would get is static. Mystery solved!
1:32 pm on February 17th, 2013
Hah! That radio and washing machine are too funny! Thanks for that, Melanie.
Happy Birthday, Wose.
Siber, next football season, will you please root for any team playing against Notre Dame? heh heh
The v-e-t just left. Shiek is not doing well. We are trying to wait this out. Mom is trying to be strong.
1:35 pm on February 17th, 2013
Siber: I’m sorry…Sammie’s and MM’s remarks are just too funny!
1:42 pm on February 17th, 2013
O’Howlers: Strong Prayers going out for Shiek. The Quilt is around him and your Mom’s shoulders.
Wolfie: Yay! Wonderful news from the V-E-T for you and Gus.
Royals: Your post about the deer was Beautiful. We saved it to have for Always.
1:56 pm on February 17th, 2013
Melanie: Very Funny about the Radio & the Washing Machine. Good investigative skills on your part.
1:57 pm on February 17th, 2013
Wolfie – very happy for both you and GusPuppy
Howlers – we will pray that whatever Sheik’s path is, it will be gentle.
Wonder what wonderful meal Rio’s friend decided on for tonight.
2:00 pm on February 17th, 2013
The score is tied! Siber-H must be out in the yard with his construction projects.
2:26 pm on February 17th, 2013
Howlers: I stopped by the quilt to check on Shiek. I offerd to be a pillow for him as I’ve done with other Plunderers in the past, but we couldn’t work it out. I’ll keep him company under the quilt, but my mama says I am not to share any of my feeling-good-in-no-time pills with him. My mama says it may not be the right thing for him, so we will pray. That is the right thing.
2:32 pm on February 17th, 2013
Best wishes and plunderer prayers for Shiek. And a haapy, happy birthday to our very own divine Ms. Rose.
2:44 pm on February 17th, 2013
Wookie’s Dad: If you and Mrs. Wookiesmom are looking for a future quilt tester, I will gladly send you four quilt-testers-in-training. The four newborns are taking away from my attention—This, I cannot have.
3:11 pm on February 17th, 2013
Blukat: Thinking about the Iditarod trail guide we are getting a strange feeling of déjà vu. Did we order it already? If youse received a copy of the trail guide with your updated Insider subscription, maybe ours will be coming soon in the mail.
3:12 pm on February 17th, 2013
OleyHowlers, It is okay for Alpha mares and/or bitches to cry a little bit (or a lot).
I just received a text pic from GLAD of OTAS holding their niece. Sniff.
Bella, I am looking for somewhere to buy the raffle tickets for the hat. I can not find it.
I have re-upped my Iditarod subscription!
3:16 pm on February 17th, 2013
Oh, my sista, the 6th grade math teacher, is using the Iditarod for all the sixth grade!
She and the other teach have a subscription to the education part of the Iditarod.
They will be using AJ for their GPS tracker! The students are enthused and have figured out ways to use his experience for math.
I gave her a Chet the Dog and Whitey-Lance Snowhook patch for the students.
Cool.
whispering . . when she logged on to Snowhook and saw the Raven’s checkpoint she cried. She knew you guys were doing that, but seeing it on the “webs” made it real.
3:26 pm on February 17th, 2013
Well, the Buffalo Sibers lost by one goal. It was a good game after that terrible start and they pulled the goalie at the end, which is always exciting. Now we get to watch Buffalo’s Pat Kane play for Chicago.
Happy Birthday Rose!!!!!
3:29 pm on February 17th, 2013
I made the cut! I made the cut!!!!
3:31 pm on February 17th, 2013
Melanie: Very Cool! Your sister’s class is in for a Treat. Do each of the students receive a patch?
Martha seeing the Raven’s checkpoint is making us teary-eyed too. sniff.
3:35 pm on February 17th, 2013
Wonder if Kirby’s Mom will be following the Iditarod with her reading group at the library again this year?
Buddy: What are you meowing about?
3:38 pm on February 17th, 2013
err, well, The Sibers lost, but they played a good game.
Melanie, That is neat about your sister using the Iditarod to teach.
3:41 pm on February 17th, 2013
Buddy? What???
3:46 pm on February 17th, 2013
T.C. and I are now included in the list of Plunderers on Snowhook’s sponsor page!!!
3:54 pm on February 17th, 2013
Buddy & T.C.: High five! (whispering) we are sure it has just been an oversight.
4:07 pm on February 17th, 2013
Buddy, uh what??
OHs, thinking strong good thoughts for Shiek and plenty of prayers.
4:10 pm on February 17th, 2013
Blukat: Just reread what you “actually” said (sent by a friend) vs what we “thought” you said (sent with your order).
Shiek: We love you.
4:21 pm on February 17th, 2013
Masquers, that was no oversight, believe me. The Howlers distinctly told Bella we could not be part of the Iditarod last year, because we are kats. Hrumph.
Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers for Shiek. Mommy really appreciates that. She reports that he is looking just a tad better…doing circles in his stall, rather than lying down on his side and back. But still has stuff coming from his nose.
When the doc was here, he tried tubing Shiek, which means putting a tube down to his stomach, and pushing water with oil in there. But afterwards, stuff kept gushing from his nose, rather than staying in his stomach. The doc thinks the valve between esophagus and stomach is not closing, and was afraid his stomach could have ruptured. So you see this is very serious, and both rents are worked up and not sure what to expect.
When they brought Shiek in this morning, he was soaking wet and shivering like crazy, though still did not have a temperature. This is so confusing, and even the vet is baffled. Keep praying and/or sending pawsitive thoughts please.
4:27 pm on February 17th, 2013
Herd will keep Shiek in its puppy prayers. Dad here messed up computer trying to avatar Sharon, so we are on a little computer hold. Perhaps we should shoot owners, not dogs, as they only do what we ask of the nation within.
4:44 pm on February 17th, 2013
I want to thank youse guys for all the very nice birthday wishes, and e-cards !
And Rio even made a special trip to wish me a happy birthday .
Strong, healing prayers for Shiek.
Heading out for dinner…..BBL!
Oh, B&M: The ice cream cake almost melted last night. 54 candles!
Belle Starr: Thank you for the sparkliest birthday message!
4:54 pm on February 17th, 2013
Herd of Hounds: Thank your dad for trying to upload Sharon’s avatar. It will happen.
Wose: Dinner & a Movie? Fun!
6:04 pm on February 17th, 2013
Oh dear. We here are sending loving hugs and nose rubs for Shiek. He sure has been having a hard time lately. Here is hoping the quilt helps him as it has so many of us.
Mr.Staff is roasting a chicken with potatoes and onions. He was supposed to marinate it but said it didn’t tell him a time so he left it in the marinade for FIVE WHOLE MINUTES. Goodness gracious I can’t believe he would let it soak that long….snicker.
I am sure it will be fine. Staff says anything cooked by someone else is wonderful.
Staff also cooked her favorite walnut/pumpkin/gingerbread loaf today. She always makes 2 loaves. One for NOW and one for the freezer. YUM
6:05 pm on February 17th, 2013
Has anyone else lost almost all of the avatars? Or is it just me?
6:06 pm on February 17th, 2013
Hey, they just all came back. (Except Sharon)
6:12 pm on February 17th, 2013
I don’t think that Sharon has an avatar yet. All of the avatars are up on my screen.
6:21 pm on February 17th, 2013
Supper!…My friend says its not worth the aggravation of trying to cook one evening meal…sniff!…Her mother is fussing and fretting about every little thing. It is killing her not to start (over)cooking the nice cod fillets…grunt!….My friend says she does not want to eat supper at 5:00 so hands off of the food….dammit!
6:23 pm on February 17th, 2013
Staff, What just happened to you, happened to me a couple of nights ago. All the avatars go away and then they reappear…very strange.
6:28 pm on February 17th, 2013
Fellow Sibers, Strong prayers going up for Shiek. Please keep us posted. We want him to get better.
Sharon, I am glad you checked in with us.
6:28 pm on February 17th, 2013
Good luck with supper Rio.
6:38 pm on February 17th, 2013
Alice: Someone here thinks your supper sounds delish…especially the dessert!
Riö: We are worried about yours…what with your friend’s mother in the kitchen ready to pounce…those little filets are very fragile.
6:47 pm on February 17th, 2013
Staff, still no avatar here but hopefully herd’s dad will get it soon. At least Sharoon can log on now 🙂
6:52 pm on February 17th, 2013
Staff – Mama agrees about someone else cooking makes things taste better. Daddy has been doing the cooking since Mama has “a bum flipper” (that’s what Daddy calls it)
Of course Mama has to sit and talk him through every little step, from which Pam to use to how to measure flour, etc. Dad really is totally hopeless in a kitchen, but he is trying very hard.
The news just reported that Boston and the Cape got slammed by the storm this weekend. Hope the power is still on for OFA.
6:53 pm on February 17th, 2013
Wind chills have been in single digits, and heading to negatives tonight. Not a good day to be a sick horse or the human partner of a sick horse. Mom is finally back in the house and looks like a popcicle. Her back is aching too.
The vet was back and pumped some fluids into Shiek’s veins, and gave him steroids and another pain shot . He was very angry while those fluids were being pumped in and his blood dripped all over Nurse Meash. Now we wait again.keeps those good thoughts and prayers coming. Like T&G said, whatever his path, may it be smooth. Mom is adamant that he must be kept as comfortable as possible, and not in pain.
7:00 pm on February 17th, 2013
Someone on facebookie was warning Spence, the day of his book signing at the Yellow Umbrella, that a storm was on the way. Hopefully he took heed and hurried home to batten down the hatches.
7:07 pm on February 17th, 2013
And now a word from our poets laureate:
We’ve heard of Hounds,
But Hounds in herds?
They used to lurk,
But now are lured
To join our gang
And write some words.
We welcome them
With woofs and purrs.
Thank you, thank you. We know you are all touched by our magnificent way with words. We were going to sing this, but CHobbit says we’re not allowed to. She is a meanie who doesn’t understand true musical talent.
7:08 pm on February 17th, 2013
Gah!…Fish…sniff!…I hate fish. My friend is not very happy. Her mother messed around with the fillets and now one is totally breaking apart…grunt!…They are in the over and all the other prep is done…wheeze!…Never again someone says…Never again.
Shiek!…I feel very bad that Shiek is suffering so…wuffle!…If it is a ruptured stomach, what can they do for the grand ole guy?…sniffle!
7:20 pm on February 17th, 2013
Rio, the vet did a stomach tap to draw fluid out to examine. What he saw did not show a definite stomach rupture.
7:20 pm on February 17th, 2013
Basil and Sage: BS, I say! I *do* understand musical talent; hence NO KATS SINGING ON THE BLOG. Just the threat of such caterwauling has me at the keyboard. I have been ill for a few days but do read the Chet blog news everyday. Thank goodness I caught B&S’s message in time to defend myself.
I do think the words do work nicely as a poem. However, it is B. Stover who is the expert on poetry; after all, I was the one who recommended limericks at one of the parties eons ago.
Prayers to Shiek and the family of Shiek in this difficult time.
7:24 pm on February 17th, 2013
HerbKats: I know the Herd Appreciates you did Not sing your most gracious welcome…or they would if they only knew. Snicker.
7:42 pm on February 17th, 2013
Poor Shiek. We are sending our most healing thoughts his way.
7:50 pm on February 17th, 2013
More healing thoughts and prayers on their way to Shiek.
7:56 pm on February 17th, 2013
Back from dinner. The Prof took me to my favorite restaurant , Half Moon, which is in the town of Dobbs Ferry, and sits right at the edge of the Hudson River. It is very scenic, especially in the summer.
We had braised beef ravioli with sage butter and asparagus for dinner….yum!
Prof had a salad, and I had some delicious little neck clams as appetizers. Dulce de leche for dessert. We had a very nice time .
7:58 pm on February 17th, 2013
Strong healing prayers still coming at Shiek from Westchester.
8:02 pm on February 17th, 2013
Prayers for Sheik. Take comfort in the quilt tucked all around you.
8:10 pm on February 17th, 2013
Did someone mention limericks?
The day has been quite cold and downbeat,
Trying to keep warm has been quite a feat.
Put the Pack in one room
Takes away all our gloom
And makes us all happy and toasty!
TTFN
8:17 pm on February 17th, 2013
Good night from us too. Last Downton is coming on shortly. Hard to believe another season is over already.
8:33 pm on February 17th, 2013
Will probably watch Downton Abbey tomorrow. Mom has off for Pres Day. We are beat after this day…talk to youse all tomorrow. G’night.
8:42 pm on February 17th, 2013
Off!…Someone is tossing around the idea of taking tomorrow off from the damned busy-place…sniff!..Yipppeee!…Doesn’t mean it will happen, but the seed has been planted…heh!
8:52 pm on February 17th, 2013
Rio: I vote for your friend to take the day off tomorrow from work.
8:53 pm on February 17th, 2013
Rio, Isn’t tomorrow, presidents day, a holiday at your busy place?
Here is an interesting article, from the St.Paul paper, that Mr.Staff brought to my attention.
http://www.twincities.com/national/ci_22600488/apparently-dog-also-is-cheetahs-best-friend
8:57 pm on February 17th, 2013
Holiday!…sniff!…No. They don’t even get Good Friday off at that hell-hole…grunt!
9:05 pm on February 17th, 2013
Dear Shiek: Continuing to send our Prayers your way.
The Plunderer Quilt is lovingly tucked around you.
9:07 pm on February 17th, 2013
Downton! The 2 Hour Season Finale (sob) quickly approaches.
suppertime..then off to watch it – Bear
9:12 pm on February 17th, 2013
Worst!…Cooks in America…heh!heh!…We are watching the first show of the season. What a bunch of wacko’s…sniff!…My friend would like to nominate her mother, but she is too old and wouldn’t last the first week…chorkel!
9:14 pm on February 17th, 2013
Plus!…To be honest her mother is not a really bad cook. She just has certain meals she should not attempt to prepare…wuffle!…She feeds me and Beau really well. We have NOoooooOOOOo complaints at all..heh!burp!
9:43 pm on February 17th, 2013
Rio, have the Zingers disappeared?
9:47 pm on February 17th, 2013
Sammie!…There is no Hostess products left in the house. Beau and I would know if there was something hiding out….sniff!…Nothing. Notta… Both of us each have to lose about 7 pounds and it’s not gonna be me…heh!…Beau actually ate Cod tonight. That guy will eat anything…wheeze!gag!
10:15 pm on February 17th, 2013
I’ve been busy today with visiting Shiek and being a model for my mama. She is making dog jackets from scratch for AJ to take on the trail. Since she’s winging it, she is using me to size things up. So far, she’s made the prototype, whatever that is. She is trying to surprise AJ by making as many jackets with black material as possible. Truth be told, there are some mismatched colors in his near future.
10:21 pm on February 17th, 2013
Sewing!…Too damn bad we can’t jet Staff, Debbie LM, Jasper’s Maw, Wolfie’s Maw and anyone else who can sew a straight stitch up there to help Rebecca make A-Team Jackets…snort!… A full out team jacket in all black with the Patch would be awesome…chuffle!…We may need to consider a new project this year…hmmmm!…What do you think about this all you Sewing Experts?
10:40 pm on February 17th, 2013
Experts!..Well that’s me jumping the Last Big Race gun…sniff!…Let’s not think of all that just yet. Lets look forward to the adventure of the Race and The Giant and the Team getting home safely…sniff!…THEN we will think about A-Team All In Black Jackets…heh!heh!snorkel!
10:49 pm on February 17th, 2013
Heh, heh. And with those last words…who should appear (up top)…but a certain pug with…yet another great id’ear.
The Smoochers were all set to blur to Shiek’s side, but Kat assured us Nurse Meashka has everything under control.
10:53 pm on February 17th, 2013
not forgetting all your hard work, Tenz…
10:58 pm on February 17th, 2013
Masquers: I’m just the snack guy. Mama Meash has it all in paw.
10:59 pm on February 17th, 2013
Cricket!…For some reason only known to my friend, we re-watched the Cricket scenes in Downton Abby from last weeks episode…sniff!…She seems to love that game. Did youse guys know that she actually Scored a Whole game while over in England one time? Not a professional game, but a game in which one of her very best friends pitched….heh!…What a guy. Now he is an avid biker…grunt!…She preferrer him as a Cricket player….awwww, well.
11:04 pm on February 17th, 2013
My mama says a certain pug is full of all sorts of things like good ideas, gas, a heart of gold…
11:08 pm on February 17th, 2013
Tenz: Better to be full of gas than just plain full of it.
Hey, Riö, Isn’t cricket the equivalent of American baseball?
11:19 pm on February 17th, 2013
Gas!…Someone here says that is my first ingredient…chuffle!!
Cricket!..Verses baseball..hmmm!….There are definite elements of the same game, but lots and lots of differences…heh!heh!…There is a jolly good book about the kind of guys who play Cricket called, “Rain Men”…(if I remember right.)…sniff!…She has an autographed copy of the book. The author is hilarious in a very English sort of way, and in a sportsman sort of way too, which appeals to both of us…heh!snort!heh!slobber!
