Aztecs and the Nation Within

Interesting, but bothersome at the end.

    Good Morning All!

The National Geographic article looks to be troublesome indeed. Just Skimming Over the above link to the story has us Backing Away.
    Cowards? Maybe.

    On a Happier Note…Our Min-Pin (‘s Mom)…has arrived in Alaska!

    Hi Bear!
Macy’s Mom – hope your first day in Alaska is wonderful!

We just found out that the dog who won the Westminster Agility is our neighbor! Well, next town neighbor anyway. But we have met them at a dog event before. Pretty cool.

    …now that IS kool.
We understand the painting will be complete today?

We have read that many of the early civilizations thought that dogs could lead the way to the next life, so dogs were buried with the person. That begs a question that we don’t want to know the answer to. I think this particular article is about a site that was strictly a dog burial.

    Good morning everyone.

It would be interesting to know the answer. Perhaps it was a natural disaster such as flooding.

    Good morning all.

The Plunderer Big East trip is pretty much set. I hope more will join us. Here are the basics:

Staff and Dawson will get on Amtrak in Minneapolis. Barb will join them in Chicago. Then they come to Buffalo where I pick them up. We tour Niagara Falls and Jay and Tyb will meet us at my hotel for dinner!!! They will stay overnight and we head east the next day. We will visit Melanie, Zoe, Amalia, Leonard over the next two days. Then we come back to Buffalo where they will pick up Amtrak to head home.

Maybe Kat and her Mom can come stay with us at the Clarion in Massachusetts.

Come one, come all. Meet up with us anywhere along the way!

MPM – another part of the big Plunder Party – on the 13th, we will be going to the airport to pick up a Traveler from Tennessee who will be a part of the gathering.
    Woo Hoo.

My momma and dad are travelling to Alaska after all. They were not able to get a refund on their airfare, and they can’t afford to lose that much money. Unfortunately, they now must rely on the kindness of others, because their house has been rented! They are only getting a partial refund on that so they are still not entirely happy.
Mom says that another trip in March is way too many trips for her and for her job and for her money. And I can’t come because that would leave my Mama Meash all alone. I can’t do that to her.
BooBear, when Momma knows how much $ they are refunding, she and you can figure out how much of that should go back to you for your half of the deposit. The remainder of the money was all mailed in exactly one day prior to Dima’s first tumor bursting. wah

Hmm–I’m skipping the Aztec article, and trying not to be too miffed about a Division Chair who is dropping the ball big time. Sorry for the rant, and I hope those of you travelling stay safe and have a wonderful time.
I await word about Melanie, Sadie, Josh, the kitchen/lichen, pugs at hard labor, and the current state of the patch design.
(I feel like Rio right now, or someone else in a VBM).
Thank you all for being there and providing a glimpse of life as it should be–even with extreme weather.

Howlers: I’m so excited that you’re coming north to Alaska! I promised my pal Dima that I would show you a good time when you finally did come north to Alaska. If this means sharing one of my five favorite dog pillows so you have a place to rest your tails then that’s what I intend to do.

Yeep! I shoveled 10″ yesterday and there is another 3″ on the ground this morning. Yay. I don’t even mind shoveling as I am hoping it helps the Iditarod trails.

T&G’s house is going to look spiffier than it already does on the outside. No painting (yet) at the Hobbit Hotel.

Gah. Nana is Bummed Big Time. She can’t make the trip East in March, either by train or plane, because of a Previous Commitment to visit family in Montana on the 18th. The ticket has already been purchased by her sister…there is no way out.
Our only consultation is we may still be able to meet up with the O’Howlers next Tuesday. And…Just Maybe…Meet up with Eliot the Massage Cat in Billings?

We Here understand Diane’s mood this morning, although ours is not quite of the same variety. Tons of things to do and only a short space of time in which to accomplish the tasks.
    So…Later Gators.

    Admin: Interesting but icky.

Macy’s Mom: Hooray! A Texas gal in Alaska! Bring on the snow!

O’Howler’s: Yippee! That is a good decision. We will have a great adventure! Dima will be watching over us with a huge smile on his snow covered face.

There are many things I want to say: Rest for Melanie, calm for Truman, voice lessons for Rio among them…

But my brain is in a real tizzy as I contemplate my suitcases and this marathon trip from Alaska to the Midwest to Niagara Falls and all the Plunderers I will meet. Yikes! I leave Friday for the first leg of my journey which may include meeting with the newborn son of my nephew who is currently overdue. Hurry baby, hurry hard!

We are sort of excited for the ‘rents. Although, it is a bittersweet trip now, and not the one originally planned back when BooBear’s ‘rents were going along to help them sample wines and beers of The Way Up North, and when Dima was as healthy as an ox, whatever that means. Things have changed Big Time since that beautifully hot August day when wheels were spinning and plans put in place.
We think the ‘rents may end up sleeping under the stars, Iditarod style! Well you know the saying: “Plunder On!”

One of my first thoughts this morning was of those who made reservations to go to Alaska and now weren’t able to go. They planted the Alaska Iditarod seed and it grew into an Alaska Iditarod-bound tree! The original traveler being CHobbit who has now opened the Hobbit Hotel to encourage visitors! The greatest inspiration coming from Wose and Grizzly who traveled from so far away into the unknown which turned out to be a Great Adventure!
O’Howlers: You two can have my bed at the Hobbit Hotel!

Howlers, We will be arriving on Thursday the 13th, and then will be heading back on Saturday. We have a midnight train to catch in Buffalo that will get us into Chicago Sunday morning. I think it is about 5 hours back to Buffalo, but several of us have trouble with night driving, so we may need to get back before dark.

  33. Mama Meash
    2:21 pm on February 19th, 2014

Mom says that she is being offered beds at several places and I should stop my worrying. No need for Dawson to give up her bed, and no need for HOH to give up their suite. She is just melancholy for all the reasons we mentioned. But at least now she has something to look forward to. When she returns home, it will be almost Spring!!!
B&M, Mom was almost maybe going to try a drive up Friday and home Saturday, but if you all are leaving Saturday, it does seem rather lame. It is a very very long drive, after just returning home from Alaska the week before. She is not a very good traveler, so she will need time to settle back down, and to be with us us ! Hopefully, there will be another chance. We don’t want her to leave us at all, let alone to leave the week after returning.

BREAKING NEWS: radio says that it is to snow five more inches by tomorrow. Not snowing at the moment but the sky certainly looks like a snow dump anytime. Keep those snow dances going–the more the merrier.

RIO: do you want a break from breaking rocks in the hot sun? I need help shoveling snow. I can arrange for Pancho & Lefty to dognap you. Siber-H will be so distracted from being visited by two famous Iditarod huskies, that he might faint from the excitement and you will be on your way north. Think about it

I checked out an Anchorage quilt store that my sister recommended. They have 90 bolts of Alaskan fabrics (they apologized because the amount doubles in the summer). There are also a lot of kits and patterns.

Plunderer patch: A purple circle patch with PLUNDER ON around the perimeter in black or white. In the middle can be a list of YEEP, YARK and MEOW (or HISS to represent the Plunderer cats).

Hi all. Regarding packing for Alaska, what I have found in my 15 hours of experience is that for those of you from the cold climes, it should not be too much different from home. Of course, the wind has not been blowing yet. I tried out my boots and wool socks. AOK.

Rio may be bummed at having to do hard labor but think how ripped his body will be when he is released. I do hope that happens before the Iditarod starts.

    Overwhelmed!
The man who lives here is so happy to see me leave that he has presented me with an ipad to take on my trip. I need lessons in how to use it.

HOH: I did buy some snow pants from L.L.Legume but after paying the customs charges I will not be ordering from them again. However, I do love the pants and they will be great if I decide to become an Olympic snowboarder.

Home!….Home at last!…grunt!… My friend allowed me and Beau back in the basement where the OLD OLD computer is now running…snort!…We are all afraid it will blow-up any minute, but it is the only thing I have….sob!sob!sob!….My friend found out today that the Hard-Drive on the not-even-2-year-old laptop is shot to hell…sob!sob!sob!… She is debating about paying for a data recovery. This would only cost her if the data is actually recovered….sniff!….There are almost 2 years worth of photos of one-of-a-kind Projects and lots of Plunderer stuff plus you-name it, I saved it…wheeze!…No one is very happy right now…sniffle!

Advice!…What should my friend invest in? An Ipaw or a Mac….or what? She has had it up to here with D-E-L-L…sniff!

You guys will have so much fun in Alaska. I keep telling everyone it’s a magical place. The Alaskan beer is good.

ML – glad you got there safely. Enjoy, and thanks for posting! Keep ’em coming, please.

Dawson – you can post on your new ipad, too. Yay. We’ll be waiting for pictures, too.

‘Night all. It’s been a long day, but the snow’s melting, finally.

Oh dear Rio – so sorry to hear this.

We know that most of the computer savvy folks on this here blog promote Macs, but there may be some extra training involved in learning that system.

We are tired of hearing the ice pelting down outside – headed for bed and a good book. G’night everyone.

Dawson, When you say the pants will be great if you become an Olympic snowboarder, do you mean because they are warm, or are you referring to those oversized pants that keep falling off?

We are saying good night. Will watch some Olympics and then head to bed. Wonder if we will make it to the women ice dancers.

Dawson: You Lucky Dawg! A New iPaw for the trip!
Tutoring will be needed. Nana is still trying to figure out all the bells & whistles on her new up-graded Smart Phone.
What they don’t tell you when you order it is that it takes a Smart Person to operate all the new technology.
But then, I speak for her only; it’s not everyone that has problems right off the get-go opening the bulletproof case.

I’m looking forward to blaming all my mistakes on the ipaw!

T&G: Good night. Looking forward to some pictures of the paint job tomorrow.

Melanie: I hope you had a restful day.

The ipaw is 9.4 x 6.6 inches big and 0.29 inches thick. It weighs much less than the netbook I used to carry.

The iPaw went in my carryon and was very much enjoyed on the 6 hour leg of the trip. I used space bags for my bulky items which made for more room in the case. I brought too many clothes, period.

Afternoon nap spilled over into evening and I missed rick’s good night call. The time change is still messing with me.
