Audrey Update

“Thanks, everyone, for your concern and good wishes,” Spence says. “Audrey’s home now, wearing a huge collar – “

“And showing signs,” says Admin, “of not wanting to cooperate when it comes to resting comfortably. The next few weeks are going to be – not hell, exactly, because after all, she’s back, but – “

“How about let’s start by giving her treat?”

“Now you’re thinking.”

Welcome cat-stalker.

Hi Mango Momma, Hmmm. Good luck with keeping her quiet. Spence, you could try telling Audrey that is known as an Elizabethan collar and she should act like a sedate Queen. snicker!!

Audrey, Maybe you could just lay on the sofa and have them turn the tv on for you. Animal Planet and NatGeo are the best. And lots of treats and tummies. Milk it for all it’s worth!

    Good morning, Mango and everyone!

“Milk it for all it’s worth” snicker, that reminds me of one of my dogs from my teenage years. As a puppy she had been left in a box in the road. I heard her and rode her home on my bike.

When she was older she ran into a parked car. Yes, you read that correctly! Hurt her paw. For years after that I could say, “Is your paw hurt, honey?”

She would lift a paw and whimper. Notice I didn’t say “lift THE paw” because she couldn’t remember which paw it was!

Siber-H: I have the perfect recipe for you and your mom.

    1. Buy large dog biscuits.
    2. Snap in half.
    3. Give both parts to your dog.

Today we’re having a big party. Mom is scurrying around and she keeps telling me to stay out of the way. Like what’s up with that?

Siber, Here is a recipe from my nephew’s swim team cookbook, submitted by a non-cook:

    Recipe for Preserving Our Children

Take one dozen children and mix with six Cocker Spaniels (your choice inserted here). When well blended, pour the mixture over a large, grassy field. Sprinkle heavily with violets and buttercups. Cover with a blue sky and bake slowly in a moderate sun. Whe well browned, remove them to a sparkling stream to cool.
Recipe supplies 200% RDA of hugs, kisses and doggie licks.

See, you don’t have to be a cook! Do your own spin on it.

We are going to do the spareribs the way T & G suggested, and we are making Blurberry Cobbler. We don’t have any Poppy seeds, so have to wait on that. Son and family will be here about noon to do some yard work. Horrible, horrible weekend for an Open House!

Whe Barb told 4 year old Lyla that Sandy has not spit out the little ones yet, she said ‘BUT MIMI, I AM COMING OUT T O D A Y! Maybe Sandy will cooperate and have them for a viewing audience, but I doubt it.

Hey Siber: We can relate. Mom & Dad don’t cook much stuff either, unless its directly from a cookbook recipe. But they do have this one snack they take to parties so thats the one Mom submitted. So very very simple. Hope others don’t mind

Sam didn’t send the recipe for poppy seed dressing through the dishlickers site right? Just want to make sure my login there is correct because the last recipe I see is one of mine from Thursday.

Have fun at the party Mollypop and Sam.

Audrey: Do go for the treats and tummies. This is your time to take full advantage of the situation. Your wish is their command!
So early and all this talk of food. Good thing I haven’t had my breakfast yet!
Wookie: We also saw the “Sunshine Cleaners”. Will have to watch it again and look for Buffett’s Candies. Good to know walnuts can be used in the pesto in case the pinon nuts aren’t on hand.
Barb&Maggie: That was a lovely recipe and Kismet is a very good name for GusBooBear’s mysterious kitten.
Siber-H: We agree. Our cookbook wouldn’t be the same without a recipe from you! Even though you don’t like to cook at your house, I know you like to eat, so just pick out something simple and yummy and send it in to dishlickers. We don’t fancy ourselves as chiefs around here either.
Staff & Dawson will be off to the game this afternoon. Have fun you guys.
Rio: Still trying to get used to the new computer & realizing how many things need to be downloaded. Seems even good things can be stressful when they are new.
B: Do you go to the Farmer’s Market every weekend. When Nana lived in LA there was a fabulous Farmer’s Market with everything imaginable.
Hi Melanie, MollyPop, Sam, Mango and all of you who have yet to sign in.

Bear: Yes, I go to farmer’s market most Saturdays. Here’s a new coffe that I bought there (the shop here in town roasts the beans on site): “Ethiopian Yirgacheffe–medium roasted with light yet syrupy body. Bourbon, brown sugar & berry aromas entice you to savor this aromatic coffee with floral, blackberry & light lemon notes.” If I say it smells and tastes like brown velvet no one will know what I mean. It’s delish!

I bought more herbs also. The lilacs are blooming–love the fragrance and the flowers are beautiful. Wish they lasted longer. (I wish I didn’t associate them with Walt Whitman whom I don’t love.)

We looked up Kismet last night and Qismat is a Persian version, which is close but not exact for a Siamese. That was why we suggested that too.

Mollypop and Sam sent the recipe to my personal email.

Thanks for the update on Audrey. Mom says the whole thing is NO FUN, but Audrey and Audrey’s family will make it through the recovery period.

About the cookbook…you guys will notice that I am doing what Siberians excel at…ignoring. I am a pro at that.

ok, I am sort of kidding.
Melanie, we think your recipe from me is brilliant and just the way we do things around here. You can put that in the cookbook if you want and say he doesn’t cook but loves to eat everything but jello.
Barb&Maggie, Yours is very good and could be used by someone else. It just isn’t “me”…kids and cocker spaniels?

I just posted six recipes for mom at dishlickers. I saw two beautiful SH’s at farmer’s market this morning. They weren’t together. One of them was barking and trying to jump at another dog that looked like a corgi but with longer legs. Any guesses at what breed that is? (Question not contest.)

Woo Woo! Good news from Rio! I have heard that cable tv internet runs faster than the other, which we still have…ugh.

Mom lives here, right, and she has never been to Buffets, but driven by there a zillion times. I think she should stop in sometime soon.

eek, Stover, Most of us Sibers don’t behave like that…barking and jumping at another dog. Mom says that is one of our good points.

A cross between a lab and a corgi? Labs do get around . . .

Can’t wait to hear more from Riö.

Went to pick up my bread and stopped off at my sister’s to see if she wanted to ride along. She wasn’t there but my nephew came with me. He told me EVERYTHING! About his new job and going to see his girlfriend, and how to run a marathon, and how not to rollerblade, and and and.

What fun! I didn’t have to say a word and it was great catching up with him. He is now a bona fide mechanical engineer.

YSAS is working on a movie set today. With Richard Gere, Tim Roth and Susan Sarandon. YSAS is a juror. Since it’s a Saturday and because he is Union HE GETS MORE MONEY THAN USUAL!! WOO! WOO! Have no idea if they will be in the scene, but he’s not allowed to talk to them at all.

Brother!…Just when I get officially connected we have to do errands for her mother…grump!… First we have to make dough for some cabbage rolls (this will be documented for the cookbook), and then we have to go to Hobby Lobby to look for finishing touches for the Auction Item, then we have to go to my house (where there is no internet!) and wash a great big bed spread for her mother….grunt!… Game starts at 1:00 me thinks, so at least I will be able to watch that while the bedspread is washing…snuff! …Then once we come back here I can check in again….huffle!

Hello all youse! We founf ourselves spending an unexpected night in Valdez and hope that we will be able to head home today with a running dog truck. I’ve kept my colorful, pug inspired language to myself…

I need to send in a couple of items for the cookbook still. Nothing fancy as, like SiberH I’m an eater not a cooker.

  31. OleyHowlers
    3:26 pm on May 14th, 2011

Hello to all. We are checking back in as Mom has finally gotten all of her farm chores done. She is so tired, but ready to sit and relax with her kindle book (Last of the Dixie Heroes).
We hope Audrey is feeling almost tip-top. But still not tip-top enough to start running and jumping.
Snowhook: we hope your truck gets fixed soon and doesn’t cost you too much.
Sounds like everyone has now received their special surprise ?
    Barb: no babies yet???
Rio: your messages are coming across faster and clearer than ever !!! Woo-hoo lucky you ! We are on slow DSL.
Siber and Melanie: We hate that recipe, because we do not eat broken cookies. What would be the point? We love our cookies very large so we can carry them around and show off with them. We try to keep them around all day so we can be the last husky with our cookie. Sasha always wins, as Mom has to take hers from her when its time to come in. Then she gets it back in the morning. We Sibes here in Oley keep to ourselves all the time we have our cookies to guard. We have fun trying to distract each other to get theirs. You see that would never work if we had small mouth-size cookies.

  32. Tupper and Gilly
    4:15 pm on May 14th, 2011

Hi everyone – the chaos is finally over, we hope! So, catching up..
Barb – yes you can adapt that recipe
Bee – a Corgi with long legs….hmmm…could it have been the Nefarious Natasha with her disquise slipping a little?
OleyHowlers – Tupper would be right there in the cookie war contest. If she gets a bone or rawhide knot or a giant cookie, she walks around just showing it off forever. Drives Gilly nuts.
We got our Snowhook surprise! Its wonderful. Its fabulous. And we are not being allowed to use it – wherever we put it down, Basil jumps up and sits on it. Mama was sitting on the floor with us when she opened the package. She put the surprise on the floor and Basil came and sat on it. So she put it up on the dining room table – and Basil jumped up and sat on it. So, she moved it to the kitchen table – and Basil jumped up and sat on it. Poor dim bulb Basil – all he heard was the word “mouse” and that’s as far as he got. So he is being the mighty hunter, and he’s got that dang “mouse” under control. sigh….what an idiot. Mama just loves him cuz he’s snuggly and purrs loud – good looks, zero brains.
(whispering – Siber, Mama agrees with you about kids. She and Dad have a joke about how they love kids – especially on toast with gravy. But don’t tell anyone – they might take it wrong)

  33. Siber-H
    4:38 pm on May 14th, 2011

yeah, T&G, I would prefer the cocker spaniels anytime to kids. Rio will also appreciate your joke.

Howlers, I immediately eat whatever is given to me, even if I am around other dogs and a two-legged is passing out biscuits. Broken cookies are fine with me…crumbs are also good. Melanie’s recipe works for me.

I hope Rebecca and AJ get to return home today with a working tramsmission in the dog truck. The team will need their truck.

OleyHowlers: That is what Ellie does with her chewies or bones. She puts it right between her feet and then glares at any dog that comes her way.

Unfortunately, being an elder, she falls asleep and then her treat gets stolen. (Zoë gives her another though)

    5:43 pm on May 14th, 2011

I don’t think the dog at farmer’s market had any lab. She wasn’t that big and she looked more like a wolfe. What is the breed that has a curly tail….not a pug.

  40. Tupper and Gilly

Maybe a Shiba Inu? Or a Bisenji (sp?)

  41. Melanie

    I was just going to mention a Shiba Inu . . .

  42. Siber-H
    5:57 pm on May 14th, 2011

Sibers have tails that curl…mine does out in public, but at home I sometimes let it relax. That would explain the wolf look.

ee gads, I hope the mechanic is WRONG!

  43. Siber-H
    6:01 pm on May 14th, 2011

nah..I’m voting for the Shiba Unu or the other one T&G mentioned…not a Siber.

  44. B.Stover
    6:06 pm on May 14th, 2011

Yes, the dog was a Shiba Inu and the SH was jumping up and barking at her. The SH’s person had to hold him down and then pulled him away on his leash. (It was just one bark…very low voice.)

  45. OleyHowlers
    6:14 pm on May 14th, 2011

Our big brother Boris used to “bury” his cookies in a corner of the living room. Then he would lay in the opposite end and watch it and fret about it. The minute one of the cats would enter the room, he would run over and “dig” it up and hide it elsewhere. We thought all sibes did that sort of thing with cookies.

We are worried about Rebecca and A.J. in that truck!

Never heard of a shiba unu…but it sort of looks like a miniature husky!

Siber-H! Whatever recipe you decide on, please don’t forget to enclose a photo. This cookbook is going to be a collector’s item for sure!
The dog B saw at the market looks like the Haiku Dog from the movie.
Hope to hear the good news from Rebecca soon that they have arrived home with no more problems.
Rio: Dog knows we can relate! Problems with the used wireless router, which keeps cutting in and out. Seems to be very touchy. Still have to hook up the Roku. #1 son coming tomorrow for a look at everything. Yes show us the project!
What exciting news Melanie! YSAS in a movie with big name stars!
Soon we’ll be able to say we knew him shen.
We are all exhausted and are turning in early tonight.
Talk to you in the am.

Well we went to the Twins game. They were tied 3 to 3 after 9 freezing, windy and rainy innings. After 10 innings, when we left, it was 9 to 3. I haven’t had the heart to check the final score.

Dawson and I also kept an eye on the Rockies who were doing really well until the 8th inning. They were up 7 to 2. Then came the 8th inning. So terribly sad and ugly.

We went to a giant neighborhood rummage sale in the cold and rain in the morning. We saw two beautiful Siberians. One was large and mostly white with grey guard hairs. The other was smaller with cinnamon coloring. The white one had the blue eyes. I gave them the homemade treats that I had purchased at an earlier garage sale to benefit the Humane Society. They were absolutely gorgeous and seemed to have been wonderfluffed. Their fur was just a halo around their bodies.

    Rio,
Tell your friend I prefer the bling but think it needs to be less centralized on the fan. Can you put some higher on the fan too or move the small ones higher?
I don’t mind the large stone, but do think a slightly smaller one would fit a little better. It does seem to take over.
It is really amazing. I can’t believe this is just with little tiny strips of paper and that you can get them so identical when you curl them. Tell me, does your friend have a lot of them that are too tight or too loose that she tosses? Curious here.

Wonderfluffed!…. Heh! I bet SiberH would look wonderfluffed too if he lived in an arctic climate like Staff does…snort!… As it is, he probably has lost 80% of his coat due to the hot, dry weather he is surrounded by….sniff!…No wonder he digs holes all the time out of frustration…yark!

Identical!….The trick to this Quilling thing is to be able to reproduce tiny objects of identical size and curl…heh!… She is pretty good at that now and hardly throws out anything. Sometimes finding the right size takes a try or two, but once found she can replicate it time after time….snorkel!…When she is in the “zone” that’s when I have to go outside or I am suddenly hungry or I want to be up on the couch, or well, whatever will disturb and distract her….heh!heh!heh!

We are back. Tiring but productive day. Yard looks great.

The ribs turned out great. Did them at 250 for 3 hours with a little dry rub on them. Then threw them on the grill for a few minutes with sauce on them. Perfect. The cobbler was really good too – we had some fresh blueberries, blackberries and raspberries, so made it a mixed fruit cobbler. Delish!

Bear, If I remember correctly, that dog in the movie was an Akita, which must be in the same family as the Shinu Inu. Both Japanese in origin, but Akita is bigger.

That cat/allergy saying is funny. Barb likes her grandkids of course, but if she is out some where, she is much more likely to make over someone’s dog than a human baby.

Lyla is cool because she inherited animal lover genes big time from Barb’s son and her mom, Jess. This kid is 4 and she was telling Barb about herbivors and carnivors today. She is extremely gently with little bugs, and isn’t afraid of any thing. Rather refreshing. In other words, for a two legged she gets paws up from me.

    10:23 pm on May 14th, 2011

Staff, It was a bad day for both the Rockies and the Twins. I checked the Twins score earlier because I knew you and Dawson were there. Are you sure the dogs you saw weren’t Malamutes. They are bigger and hairier than we are but are often mistaken for Siberians. If a Siberian has a longer hair coat it is called a Woolly Siberian and the gene for that is recessive in my tribe. A white Siberian is also caused by a recessive gene.

Siber H and Tupper and Gilly…

I have often wondered if I was deficient in some way. I too prefer baby animals to baby people. I will coo over a kitten or puppy and will be polite to human babies. Don’t tell anyone OK? I still think there must be something wrong.

  88. Staff
    10:28 pm on May 14th, 2011

Well I did ask the man holding the white one if they were Siberians and he said they were. The white one was the larger, blue eyed one and he was also fluffier than the cinnamon one.

Cats are one of the most loved pets in the world, no question about it. More than 50% of all households in the United States own dogs and cats. Although cats are loved animals, cat allergies are one of the common forms of allergies. Statistics in the past have shown that over 10 million people in the U.S. alone have allergic reactions to cats – especially their fur. –
