Audrey
“The vet says the surgery went well,” Spence says. “Audrey’s ACL was 95% shredded and her meniscus was gone, but he was still able to do the less complicated of the two possible procedures.”
“Whew,” says Admin.
“She comes home on Friday,” Spence says. “That’s when our work starts – keeping her from doing all the things she does.”
“Have you noticed all the rabbits and squirrels and chipmunks around suddenly?” Admin says. “Taking advantage of her absence. That’s going to drive her crazy.”
“But right now,” says Spence, “the important thing is to thank everyone for their good wishes. It means a lot.”
“Yes,” says Admin. “Thanks, everybody.”
Welcome Binzer, and thanks for the encouraging message.

Good girl Audrey, now sit, stay.
9:23 am on May 12th, 2011
Stay . . . stay . . . stay . . .
Oh Chet, just tell Peter, Spence and Admin to give her lots of tummies!
9:29 am on May 12th, 2011
Wookie is willing to lend out Grandpa to handle some of the tummies. All the best to Audrey and her humans (they also need some good tummies to cope from the exhaustion of keeping Audrey quiet!)
9:46 am on May 12th, 2011
Will Audrey have to wear the dreaded E collar?
9:58 am on May 12th, 2011
Did the procedure replace the shredded and missing parts? Just worrying. Audrey: Do as Spence and Admin say (to help them through this). Be well.
Good morning all.
10:02 am on May 12th, 2011
Recovery!…. So she’s still at the dreaded V-E-T-S ….sniff!….Poor thing, she probably thinks her family has left her there forever….snort!….That’s what I would think if I woke up in a cage at that kind of place…sob!sob!sob!….They don’t have visiting hours either I bet. Although, Rosie could push her way in there to see Audrey if she wanted too….sniffle! …Spencer is too small, the big V-E-T nurses could toss him out the back door in a jiffy…heh!
10:03 am on May 12th, 2011
Sam: Is it your girl graduating??? What fun! Do you get to go to the party?
The Newfs do not wear the Elizabethan Collar. Just imagine . . . they are so big they have to use a horse EC, think bull in a china shop, then imagine them coming in the dog door. (shaking head) We end up using a sock and tape!
Next: For B. Stover . . . Someone wrote an email with a quote from a non-profit company. Now I thought I was bad when it came to phrases in the wrong places.
. . . is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to bettering the lives of those who have suffered a Spinal Cord Injury through an intense exercise program.
When I first read it I thought that was weird to have a company that only helps people with exercise induced injury. So I looked it up. Nope, they just wrote it that way. It’s an exercise programs that helps people with spinal cord injuries.

For Audrey (and everyone else)

10:15 am on May 12th, 2011
Melanie: That could also be read as: The people suffered the injury because of an intensive exercise program. Is it from a published brochure?
10:16 am on May 12th, 2011
Good Morning to All!
Audrey I am so glad to hear things went well. Just chill and enjoy being spoiled by Spence and Admin. I’m sending you lots of rub-a-dubs!
SiberH and Volfie: Thanks for complimenting my avatar. The both of you are my special sweeties….
10:19 am on May 12th, 2011
What a fun card Melanie!
Rose: What is your avatar? I like it.
10:27 am on May 12th, 2011
Melanie, yes, it’s my girl who is graduating. Then she will be done with school and can stay home with me every day.
I get to be at the party. They may try to keep me in the kitchen while they eat, but since I’m small, I should be able to escape.
10:42 am on May 12th, 2011
Melanie: Rereading your interpretation of that badly phrased sentence, I see that I merely repeated what you said. My only excuse is that I have a sinus headache.
(Whispering: I wonder what college Sam’s girl is going to attend. I think it was mentioned at one time but I’ve forgotten.)
10:45 am on May 12th, 2011
Card!….Hey, that guy on Melanie’s card looks a lot like me, except for the running part…heh!
10:46 am on May 12th, 2011
Glad things went well with surgery. Keeping her quiet will not be easy.
Have a beautiful day here. We are going to get some pots planted before Barb has to go to work this afternoon.
And don’t even ask. Barb is disgusted!
10:50 am on May 12th, 2011
Riiiiggghhhhtttt, Sam.
B. Stover: It’s on their web site as their main description of who they are. Sigh
Sinus headache. Yuck. Is it from allergies?
Sorry MollyPop and Barb. I hate the waiting too.
10:53 am on May 12th, 2011
College!….Wasn’t it Smith College…snort! …. Not that anyone we know is going there anytime soon…heh!
10:54 am on May 12th, 2011
Hi B: It’s Felix the Cat. I love Felix the Cat, and cartoons in general. I’m still a kid at heart.
11:05 am on May 12th, 2011
Smith College? Hmmm . . . that is sort of in our area!
11:17 am on May 12th, 2011
Rio: That’s what I was thinking also–the pug in the card.
Rose: Yes, now I recognize Felix. Good job!
Melanie: Yes….allergies and humidity I think.
11:28 am on May 12th, 2011
B.Stover, sending you a secret decoded message. About something that I use for allergies. Seeing that I can’t use ANYTHING over the counter.
11:30 am on May 12th, 2011
Hi Everyone. We’re up kind of late this morning (although it’s still before 9 am here) Didn’t sleep well what with all the worries about the pack. Audrey at the vet post surgery, Barb&Maggie’s Sandy-“lady in waiting”, Kirby so sad about his girl, Gus&BooBear’s senior kat, SnowBella missing her working dogs, and our thoughts are always with our dear Wookie going through treatments. To all the recuperating 2-leggeds & four a speedy recovery! Sorry guys, this is no way to start the day, which is a beautiful sunny one. Just wanted you to know we give all mentioned big hugs and the rest of the pack too! – Bear
12:07 pm on May 12th, 2011
Bear!…You worry too much!…grunt!… You need to be more like me, carefree and lighthearted because I have a feeling that next month I will be Chet’s Friend of the Month!!!…chuffle! sneeze!…Plus, this weekend my friend will finish her first Auction Item Project…snort!snort!… She’s been thinking about what to make next but can’t decide….cough!
12:16 pm on May 12th, 2011
Mom brought the Border Collie home the same day he had surgery because he couldn’t be kenneled. He would wake up and start hollering bloody murder for them to call his mom. We are sure it will help in Audrey’s recovery to stay till tomorrow at the vet.
Chet, I don’t know if this will be of any use, but what mom did with the Border Collie to help keep him quiet was drive him around in the truck. She’d carry all 55 pounds of him between the house and truck. He loved going in the truck more than anything in the world and he was very well behaved in it…gas was cheaper then. The Border Collie was also perfectly happy to set by himself in the truck when it was parked. The weather wasn’t hot, so you can guess what else mom did
We are so glad that Audrey’ surgery went so well, and we know that she is going to be fine.
12:19 pm on May 12th, 2011
G & B, How is your buddy? Hope all is peaceful.
Hope we get our surprise in the mail from Rebecca.
Melanie, loved your card.
Have to get ready for work. BBL
1:42 pm on May 12th, 2011
Melanie: Thank you for the card! It was very uplifting.
Rose: I love Felix too!
Auction: Would anyone be interested in a 6 volume set of Jan Karon’s Midford Series? All are in paperback and include the additonal 4 books, a total of nine in all (I don’t know if this is an appropriate auction item) Rio: I am still digging for that special thing buried long ago. I have 3 parts of it, but one or two are still missing. I hope they turn up because I think you all would like it very much. If a gift basket is auctioned, it would contain coffee items from our local coffee roaster here on the Island.
Now I’m off to digging more holes. Siber-H, I could use some help!

Have been able to keep close eye on Audrey – oops – ve mean Subject A. She is doing vell, and Natasha is making sure she is comfortable and qviet. Ve vill need her back in place vith Spence, Peter and Admin if ve hope to be able to qvestion her about their movements.
Have been giving her lots of tummies in vets’ office. She is smiling from happy drugs and evervon here being so nice to her.
Vill report vhen she is ready to go home and stay qviet.
Natasha out
p.s. – somevon here at vet’s office said the “new vet tech vas a real dog”. Have they seen thru Natasha’s disquise??
2:01 pm on May 12th, 2011
VHY do they moderate us?????
2:12 pm on May 12th, 2011
Plunderers should NOT be moderated.
2:22 pm on May 12th, 2011
Natasha!… heh!snort!heh!… Did you get a glimpse of Spence or Admin while you were there tending to Audrey…snort!…. Spence is the little one with the pointy head and Admin is the bigger, grumpier one who shuffles along. You should see the size of his paws!…grunt!
2:35 pm on May 12th, 2011
Bear: Since we both love Felix, it must mean we both have excellent taste!
2:39 pm on May 12th, 2011
Hallo everyone. This is Mary, taking a quick break at work.
Glad to hear that Nattie is keeping an eye on poor Audrey. We have to get to her well so that she can go swimming!
Not much is happening here, better get back to the salt mine.
2:40 pm on May 12th, 2011
Hi Staff: No comment on the avatar?
3:03 pm on May 12th, 2011
Rose: I love your avatar. Staff is travelling today…coming back here. Her cats have been driving us crazy while she’s been gone. Alice keeps jumping on mom’s lap insisting on being petted ad nauseam while swishing her tail back and forth in mom’s face. At human supper time, there she is, lounging on the table. Abigail starts complaining as soon as I get up, leading me to the “tummy rubbing rug” and flopping over (whomp!) demandingly, even before I’ve had my caffeine. And…somebody upchucked on the new (to us) chair this morning.
3:19 pm on May 12th, 2011
Melanie, we love the card. I know they will save it for Audrey to see once she gets back home.
BSD, Wish I were there to help with the digging! I think both the books and/or the coffee would be excellent auction items. Everyone here reads and there have also been discussions on the blog about coffee.
Borzoi, I am so glad you are doing something useful and important. Thanks for the hilarous report. Mom wants to know if crocks are really that comfortable?
3:37 pm on May 12th, 2011
A story with a happy ending: Remember Harry and Sally, the female Siberian and the Pug that Husky rescue had up for adoption here? They were inseperable. Well, they showed up at my dog park this morning with their new mom of three months. The mom jogs with Sally and since Harry can’t really jog, he gets to ride in one of those strollers that women with babies push along in front of them while jogging. Harry is charming and looks just like Rio. Sally looks like a female version of me, and she is very nice. It just made our day to learn that they were doing so well and had such a wonderful home.
3:45 pm on May 12th, 2011
Hey Dawson: Cats can be demanding and egocentric. Sorry to hear that someone hurled…Yuck!
3:47 pm on May 12th, 2011
I just posted two more recipes on the dishlickers site.
Bear: Yes! Coffee!!
SH: Great story.
3:47 pm on May 12th, 2011
Siber-H – That’s great news! It looks like they’re getting babied and spoiled. They deserve it!
3:50 pm on May 12th, 2011
Gah!….Kat upchuck!…Gah! ….Can it get any worse than that?…urp!
Harry!….That ole Harry sure knows how to go for a “jog”…heh!….He sounds like one smart Pug….sniff!
4:05 pm on May 12th, 2011
Siber H: That’s great news about Harry and Sally.
BearSpiritDog: I read the Jan Karon books and they were wonderful. Coffee? Yes!
Rose: The cats are actually keeping us entertained…except for the upchuck part. Alice allows me to sleep on her bed while I’m here, although I have to suffer her evil eye each time I climb in.
4:23 pm on May 12th, 2011
I don’t think that Sam’s girl is going away to school. Just ask Sam. I think that she is going to stay home forever and ever.
Personally, I think that Sam should go to school with her girl, just like Brutus did with Elle in Legally Blonde. I think it would be fun to hear all the sorority news!
4:25 pm on May 12th, 2011
Dawson: When I had my cat Kelly (he will be in cat heaven 24 years on Saturday) I often got the evil eye too. But he was great to share a bed with. When he snuggled up to me to keep warm on a cold night, I don’t think he realized how warm he was keeping me!
SiberH: That is such a great story about Harry and Sally…I love stories with happy endings!!
4:54 pm on May 12th, 2011
Siber, Thank you for the Harry and Sally update. Glad to know it worked out so well for them.
Have printed some more recipes. Bee’s new ones were not there when we printed the others. I think Bluecat’s were the last ones.
5:20 pm on May 12th, 2011
Snowhook’s surprise arrived today. Love it!
Rio, I leave hair balls lying around. The parental units usually find them with bare feet and then they make funny sounds. Humans!
5:21 pm on May 12th, 2011
Rockies!….They are finally warming up. The game has been on delay because of rain, but it is finally clearing up…heh! Woooo! ….Ubaldo just started pitching right now!….snort!
5:33 pm on May 12th, 2011
Thanks for the heads up Rio. I’m turning on the tv. I figured they would just have to give up on the game for today. Yippie!!!!
5:34 pm on May 12th, 2011

Barb&Maggie: Resent the recipe with title in case you’re wondering what the hey. Looking for a couple more to send in the soups and salads catagory.
5:54 pm on May 12th, 2011
Rio, When you get internet back in the evening, we will have to get together for some baseball, ribs, and spitting and scratching. hee hee
6:01 pm on May 12th, 2011
Grump!… I just learned that she will not be taking me over to my house tonight so I will not be able to get on the computer …..snuffle!….That isn’t fair! …grump!
6:18 pm on May 12th, 2011
Barb and MagPie, did you see mine?
Harry and Sally, that is wonderful for them.
Sorry Riö, 🙁
We’re back to having some sort of flu thing. Just can’t get rid of this thing!
7:22 pm on May 12th, 2011
Bluecat: Can you describe the noise that they make?
Melanie: I’m sorry. Hope you feel better. I replied to your decoded message.
7:47 pm on May 12th, 2011
Hey, I’m going to hit the hay!
Before I go, here . . .
What happens when dogs and Kats get along . . .

7:52 pm on May 12th, 2011
Hi, Bee. Mom says ewwwww. Dad stomps around and yells for paper towels. I peek around the corner with a little white stuffed mousie in my mouth, looking cute. All’s well that ends well?
By the way, all the recipes sound good.
Another by the way, Mom enjoyed Water for Elephants, the movie, though there were a few animal abuse scenes. She liked the book better. She usually likes the book better, other than Gone With The Wind. That’s probably her favorite movie.
8:33 pm on May 12th, 2011
Bluecat, I have not seen the movie yet but I have a feeling the animal abuse scenes were more graphic in the book. Also, my sister said the one scene with the 2 old horses was not in the movie at all. That really bothered me, but my sister said she didn’t remember it. Gah, as the pug would say!
BSD, I got a recipe from you for a speciality drink. I don’t think I had anything from Melanie, as of this afternoon. Have gotten some from Staff, Bee, and then I have copied all the ones from the dinner parties. Also got Rio’s strawberries, but not the noodles yet.
Melanie, you have my regualar email, just send it there, unless you want everyone else to get to see what you are submitting. That is one advantage to putting it on the group email.
Well, after 3 or 4 nights of spotty sleeping, it is catching up with the old girl. That would be Barb, not Maggie.
Will be getting a bite to eat and then crashing. May be back later, may not.
8:33 pm on May 12th, 2011
Finally we are back with the parents and Dawson and Alice M Johnson and AbbietheKitty. Seems like we were never gone. We got our surprise from Snowhook and we love it and we NEEDED it as we only have one here and Mr.Staff keeps stealing it.
We had to show Dawson what it was immediately because she was right there asking. Heh. She can’t wait to get hers, but she will have to wait till she gets home.
Alice also hurled on the polarfleece over by the window. We put it there so she can watch the neighborhood in comfort. Now it has to be washed again.
Rose I love your Felix avatar! Good job! Alice was quite impressed also. Felix is one of her hero’s.
8:35 pm on May 12th, 2011
shhhh…whispering….
I can hear Dawson talking to Alice in the other room. She sounds like she is grunting. I can’t tell what she is saying but it sure sounds funny….
9:06 pm on May 12th, 2011
B&M: Melanie’s cake recipe is on the dishlickers site.
Bluecat: LOL!
9:36 pm on May 12th, 2011
Yes, BlueCat, cuteness will save the day most every time.
Staff is back at home safe and sound and Audrey is coming home tomorrow. Good news!
Dawson: Now that Staff is back it should take some of the pressure off with the kat patrol.
Melanie: Liked the picture and we can relate. Masquers & I are close friends. I am her protector.
I can hardly stand it. All those delicious recipes! Is it supper-time? Yes! (B: it’s your fault – the last thing you talked about was cake! (lol)
BBL (maybe)

Good morning everyone – no wait, it’s 12.03. Good afternoon. Great to see that Audrey is doing okay. Sorry not to get on the last several days, it’s been too busy, but I’m enjoying having a quick flick past! Thank you for the email to Zoe, i’ll respond to that when i get home.
10:15 pm on May 12th, 2011
From Zoe, i mean…
10:41 pm on May 12th, 2011
Hi Liz! Taking a last look here too before bedtime. It’s hard to get used to the, what 10 hour?, time difference between here and there. Our night is your day and visa versa. Maybe you can stop back by tomorrow am to say hey.
Good night all – Bear
10:51 pm on May 12th, 2011
Let’s hope so Bear! My weekend is so busy I’m not optimistic I’ll even have a chance to wave at you guys, have just spent the last half hour trying to work out where I can fit in a movie! (unsuccessfully). Have you seen Source Code? it’s supposed to be good…
11:24 pm on May 12th, 2011
HI and Bye to LizF and Bear,
Sure is quiet when Rio is off line. His Rockies got crushed tonight so he will probably be extra grumpy in the morning.
See you all tomorrow.
12:27 am on May 13th, 2011
We got our surprise from Rebecca and Snowhook today!! Thank you so much. We absolutely LOVE it. Dad didn’t get into the Iditarod race too much last year, but as we’ve been telling him about Snowhook and Rebecca and AJ, he’s starting to get the fever. He was very impressed with the surprise also. Once, Mom and Dad had to take one of our brothers to a specialist vet for special surgery and that vet has been one of the vets on the Iditarod race. He had pictures posted all over his office. It was really cool. (this was back in 2004).
Senior brother continues to decline, but is still fairly alert and is eating well. He is losing his ability to walk and control his bodily functions. Mom is taking him to the vet on Saturday and they will decide together what to do next. Mom says that if there is something that can be done to help him control his functions and he is not in pain (which he does not appear to be in) he will get to come back home for whatever time he has left. We will just have to see.
BUT the strangest thing happened tonight. Mom had bathed Toes (that’s the senior brother we’ve been telling you about)and had him outside for fresh air and outside smells when she heard a cat crying. We live at the edge of some woods with a utility easement between the side of our place and the actual woods. The crying was coming from the easement. Dad came out to watch Toes and Mom went searching for the cat. It sounded like it was scared or hurt. She was afraid it was the stray she has been feeding outside. She followed the crying and kept calling out. She finally found the source…a 6 week old Siamese kitten out there all by itself. After talking to the baby for several minutes, it came up to her. She brought it back to the house. It was very hungry and not a bit shy with the other cats. Mom will try to find it a good home, but if not, it looks like we have another rescue. Dad says that kitten just found cat heaven.
Sorry to go on and on. Just wanted to share.
G&BB

We just posted a long post and it went to never never land. Maybe it will show up later. If not, we will recap tomorrow.
But, Thank you, Rebecca and Snowhook!! We love our surprise!
So glad all went well with Audrey.
