Auction Action!

“Today’s the big day,” says Admin.

“I’m excited,” says Spence.

“But first you have to explain the what and how, as clearly as possible,” says Admin. “I’ll just go out on the porch and finish the coffee.”

“But – ” Spence rubs his forehead, that way he has when he’s hoping to get something started. “Hmmm. OK. Today the online auction begins. Is that clear enough, Chet?”

Not really, but I like watching that forehead thing.

“All proceeds benefit the Snowhook Kennel up in Alaska, to help them – meaning Rebecca and AJ – run their wonderful team, led by the doughty Whitey-Lance, in Iditarod 2012. They’re a wonderfully humane, dog-loving couple. All kinds of great items are up for bid. Bidding begins at 12 noon, EST. Good luck, everyone!”

“Tell them about the link, for God’s sake!” Admin yells from the porch.

“I was getting to that,” Spence yells back. “All you have to do is go to this link:”

I’d like to see the forehead thing also. “Doughty Whitey-Lance”…I like that!

    Good morning all.

    What does “doughty” mean?

Good morning, y’all! Mom is still not tip-top, but at least she turned the computer on for me! The auction site looks great, but I almost was afraid that my items didn’t make it, until I saw the “older posts” down at the bottom and clicked on that. There was my stuff, and all the Snowhook stuff, too! I’m trying to figure out how much I can get out of Mom and Dad. Maybe if I try that cute little head-cocked-ear-drooping pose that got me in the door in the first place….

Oh, and Happy Birthday to Mr. Staff. And I never did say Happy Birthday to Wolfie’s mom before Mom clicked off the computer and went back to bed. So Happy Birthday to anyone I missed!!!

I just went to the auction site. It is absolutely wonderful! Excellent job Rebecca. This is exciting….and I never get excited.

Howlers: Synonyms for “doughty” are brave, valiant, fearless, courageous, dauntless.

Oh my Gosh! The auction is happening Right Now!

Oh Yeah! Happy birthday Mr. Staff. (Good thing Melanie reminded me or I’d of forgotten again)

I have to look up doughty. Up here we say doughty, doughty, dough. That means “Whatever”

Oh Kirby! Thanks for that tip…I have missed some things too. Hope your mom feels better and better throughout the day, until she is tip-top.

Oh yeah! Good morning everyone! Whooo Hooo.

    My bath runneth over.

It seems to me that Spence gets the chewed end of the dog bone when it comes to the morning coffee. Perhaps he should get his hands on the coffee donated to the auction by BearSpiritDog and not tell Admin.

    Happy birthday to Mr. Staff!

Kirby T: Try as I might, I couldn’t get all the post to show up on one page. I tried all day yesterday and even tried it again first thing this morning. You can hang on the second page of items with Whitey-Lance. The head-tilt-ear-flop will get you far—Tenzing likes to include the blink, blink, stare, blink method followed by the paw over the nose until he gets his way.

The auction site is Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Good luck to all and money flowing to Snowhook.

Was doughty just sitting in Spence’s head, waiting to come out?

  11. Kirby T. Penworthy
    9:22 am on July 2nd, 2011

Rebecca: I think it’s great being on the second page with the Snowhook stuff — I figure everyone’s going to be flipping the page to see Whitey-Lance’s items, so maybe they’ll see mine along the way! I just discovered the “older posts” thing by accident. But then when I looked at the first page again I saw the thing about clicking on the “older posts” to get to the second page. There it was in red and everything. I hope other auction-goers are more observant than I am!!!

    Thanks for explaining doughty, B.

    Happy Birthday to Mr. Staff.

We already bid…Melanie, you sure its not til noon EST ? We thought it was midnight.

Please someone bid on our thing…its anonymous but we think fairly obvious.

    10:06 am on July 2nd, 2011

Spencer said noon EST on his Facebook page.
I have put it on Zoë’s Facebook page also. We share.

    Have a great Parade TYB!

In Marblehead, they have the 4th of July Horrible Parade. Children dress up in costumes, horrible or not. One year there was a big ado about something or another in the town and the kids dressed up as both sides of the argument. Wish I could remember what they did.

Getting ready to go in the pool!

    Wow, the auction is fantabulous!

    10:32 am on July 2nd, 2011

Could we have some pictures of Tyb in the parade?

Doughty is pronounced like “doubt” with a long “e” on the end. It’s from the Old English “dohtig” meaning “worthy.”

Going to farmer’s market but will be back for the opening of the auction.

    Another Fabulous Day!

Just went to the Auction site. Rebecca, it is AWESOME. Good job!
Waiting for news on that big bank loan we applied for last week. There are so many fabulous items to bid on! What to choose, what to choose! This will be so much fun!

Bear: For a guy who doesn’t like the word “awesome”, you sure have been throwing it around a lot lately.

Auction! I cannot believe my eyes! A virtual Treasure Trove of PRICELESS items await our opening bids. I am reminded by a few of you that bidding begins here on the West Coast at 9 am, so I had better jump off the blog and prepare my bids.

    Auction!!!

I don’t understand this, but there is a little side bar of news that will show up wherever I am on the internet if I move my mouse a certain way. TODAY, it says, “Let the Bidding begin…Snowhook Kennel…”
This is a good thing, but I hope I am not the only one that has my internet server that is seeing this. I bet I am. rats

Mom placed our bids on several items (MANY items) and we saw that many of you have already bid. Nothing is showing up yet in the comment box of any of those items. Wonder if we bid too early, or if it is just overwhelming Rebecca right now?

    We want lots of items.

Happy Birthday Mr. Staff! Melanie has baked another fabulous cake.

Fellow Siberians, Mom said I could bid on your item.

I don’t know what you guys have planned, but I suggest that every day the auction is going on that it be mentioned on Chet’s blog with the link to the auction items.

Woo Woo I am off to look at the auction items.

A virtual barkery. I like that MagPie!

Pool . . . The waterproof casing for the Flip video worked great. I’ll take more clips tomorrow and then MONDAY I will put up the NEWFS in the POOL video.

In the pool Zoë wears a wet suit and I wear jeans and a sweatshirt. Newfs have large paws with claws. A neighbor went by and yelled, “Where’s the bikini?”

I yelled back, “The dogs won’t wear them!”

I can’t believe my mind came up with an answer that quick!

    6 minutes to go . . .

Siber-H, have no idea what the traffic is for the auctioneer. Also, whoever it is probably will have to break at times . . .

Nope, it isn’t up there, yet. It is your item.

Staff: The drop bags are light weight bags that are strong enought to carry mushing gean (that much I know). They are not waterproof—think of a very lightweight tarp material. They are empty so the Kats wouldn’t have to deal with pesky dog items. 🙂

Wookie and Rio need to be thanked for monitoring and updating the bids. There will be a bit of a delay between the time a bid is made to the time the current bid is posted on the auction page.

This is so exciting! I worked on the auction page until the wee hours this morning and thought I would crash and miss the start of the auction. Nothing doing. I couldn’t sleep because I was so excited about the auction.

    3:43 pm on July 2nd, 2011

Hi everybody. Checking in from Auction Central East Coast (Auction Central West Coast being in Colorado). Didn’t Rebecca just do an absolutely terrific job in creating the auction site, ably assisted by Rio and his friend. It was a hectic couple of hours as the initial flurry of bids came in. My mom and dad have been pretty busy keeping up, but I think they have it under control now, thanks to Rio’s and my able direction. They asked me to mention a few points so far.

    1. Two of the items (the Stormy Sledders photo and the Dream, Passion Journey Beeded Origami Ornament) are both numbered Number 28, so if you bid on either of those items, please specify the item as well as the number. So far no bids have been submitted on either item, so no problem up to this point.

    2. Unfortunately, a few bids wound up in the spam file on the Newbid mail box. We now know to check that regularly as well, and will do our best to retrieve and honor those bids in terms of when they came in. Apologies for any problems this has caused, but we think we have it under control now.

    3. There are a total of 38 items up for auction, and 32 of them have already received at least one bid. The bidding on the ARC is the most intense, and it is already up to — are you ready for this — ta! da! — $225. Wow — way to go Spence!

    4. The total amount bid so far is $1108. Isn’t that terrific, and we still are only about 4 hours into it. I hope all you dogs and kats out there have grabbed hold of mom and dad’s checkbook and credit cards. The word for the day is spend, spend, spend.

  66. B.Stover
    3:52 pm on July 2nd, 2011

Wookie and Rio are doing a great job on the auction.

T&G: On the meringue shells recipe, do you want bake at 300 for 50 minutes or bake at 300 for 30 minutes? (I’ve only ever baked them for 30 minutes.)

  67. B.Stover
    3:58 pm on July 2nd, 2011

KirbyT, you wrote a book that involves some of the plunderers and didn’t let us in on the secret??? Now we have to decide whether to bid on it just to read the book (no babies in this house…2 legged ones, that is).

So far, I’m being out bid! Shucks.

We are back. Haven’t bid on anything yet, but did look at everything. Wow! There are so many great things to bid on, it will be hard to choose. Some very lovely things, and we are glad someone helped Wolfie put the info together for the toffee package. Love so many of the things it is hard to know where to start!

All the folks involved in creating the auction website are to be commended!

I’ve been gone a long while but glad I got back in time for the auction. I bid on several items and hope to end up with *something*. Thanks to everyone for all your parts in it.

As you might remember, my dad had a stroke 3 months ago. He has recovered as much as he is able and he is mobile and recognizes family but he has days he is really confused. I left for KY right after school got out and he is now in a secure nursing facility (he kept leaving the first one as he wanted to sit outside and it wasn’t allowed). He is now in a lovely place with a secure outside courtyard and porch but since it specializes in Alzheimer patients, it is grim to visit. He looks quite elderly now which breaks my heart and I will be going back in two weeks to visit again. My work starts August 4th so I’m trying to accomplish my summer “to do” list before I leave–all those projects that need good weather.

I have no time to catch up on all that I missed but it is sweet to see who is here today. Take care!

C Harris, Glad to hear from you – an Jasper too! Miss youse guys. Hope you have a nice visit with your dad and that he continues to improve.

    Wow!
I am on supper break and just want to tell all you Plunderer’s that worked on the auction, “Fantastic job!”
I want to bid on every single thing. It’s a good thing I am at work this weekend. However, I will make up for it come Monday morning. I may sneak a couple bids in tonight.

C Harris! So glad you are here. So sorry to hear of your Dad’s condition. I’m glad at least that he is in a place where he can enjoy the outdoors. I’m glad you have been able to spend some time with him. Please give yourself some extra care and loving.

I love the second bid on YSAS’s picture. Snort!

I’m headed to bed. We are thinking we will get a more powerful pump and filter for the pool. We have kamikaze bugs that it just doesn’t suck up. Not counting the dog hair!

Can’t wait to see where things stand tomorrow!!

C.Harris: We can understand what you are going through. Mom’s brother-in-law just had a stoke in May. The recovery process seems very slow for the patient and meanwhile takes its toll on the family. You must take good care of yourself too.

  95. Kirby T. Penworthy

G&BB: I didn’t put any actual Plunderers in the book — I didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings by being left out. It was more the locations that “Scottie” travels to — the closest I came to naming names was Alaska, where he meets “Lance.” I figured that was acceptable because we’re doing this for Whitey-Lance and his buddies. Scottie also travels to Australia, Canada, the desert, the South and home. I didn’t say where “home” is, so that can be every place else!

Jasper: It was good to hear from your mom. I sure hope everything goes well with your move. Just think, when she doesn’t have that long commute, she’ll have more time to spend with you. Plus, less money for gas means more money to spend on treats! As for your 90 degrees, down in South Carolina we just set a record for having the whole month of June — every single sweaty day — at 90 degrees or above!

CHarris: Sounds like you’ve been having a rough time. You and your father are in our thoughts and prayers.

CHarris – its good to hear from you. We tried to tempt you back a while ago by threatening to sing for an event. We knew that if you were lurking, you would HAVE to jump in and tell us NO!

We are sorry that you have had such sorrow. We will keep you and your father in our thoughts. Welcome back, and remember, the Plunderers are a team of great shoulders to lean on in times of trouble.

    Blessings to you.

    Bee – Recipe answers –
The recipe with the pumpkin/squash/bananas etc. This is a recipe for dog biscuits and it is called “Cookies for Wookie – Special Treats for the Nation Within”. Maybe it should be made more plain that these are dog biscuits. My family always comes hanging around when these are in the oven, since they smell like rich, sweet human style cookies.

For the”Little Bit of Heaven” – please say it is for “Peabody” (the first beloved Corgi of this house) “and All the Others Who Have Crossed the Rainbow Bridge”.

I have baked the meringue shells for 50 minutes, but I did have a really terrible and slow oven at the time. Maybe a note should be made to “bake for 40 to 50 minutes, until firm and dry but not browned” What do you think?

Now we have to go check out the auction!

Goodnight, y’all! Mom’s finally feeling better, but between church and an afternoon outing she may not be on the blog much tomorrow. Dad wants to go to a movie — “Bad Teacher” starring Carmen Miranda. (Don’t worry, I know it’s not really her, but that’s Dad’s idea of a [bad] joke!) Since both Dad and my girl are (or will be) in the teaching profession, they wanted to see it.

Have a good night, everyone, and we’ll see y’all tomorrow. Don’t let the bedbugs bite! (Are there any left, Rio? I haven’t heard about them in awhile!)
