Auction

“Do think we can ask one of the Plunderers to post a short description of the auction today – when, where, how, why, that kind of thing?” says Spence.

“So we can plagiarize from it?” says Admin.

“If you want to put it that way. I would have said to help us spread the word – on Facebook, all that.”

“There’s the difference between you and me.”

Spence sighs. Admin pours the last of the coffee for himself. He looks cheerful. I’m not sure why.

From the Boston Globe:

The One Book, One Hudson reading program will kick off Wednesday with a visit from the author of this summer’s selection. Spencer Quinn, author of “Dog on It: A Chet and Bernie Mystery,’’ will be on hand at the Hudson Public Library to sign books and talk about his writing. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. Copies of Quinn’s books will be available for purchase.

“Plagiarism” is from the Latin “plagiarius” meaning kidnapper (literary thief), and means the unauthorized use of another’s work. Since Chet’s use will be authorized, it isn’t plagiarism. (Admin owes Spence a bottle of something.)

I think Rio and/or Rebecca need to supply the description of the auction. And I wish I could go to Hudson Public Library tomorrow…wherever that is.

    Good morning all.

    Good morning.
Bright and early this morning, while making our normal rounds to survey the property, we came across the biggest, meanest raccoon in the world. This was not our first raccoon, but we had not seen the likes of this guy. The fight lasted at least a half-hour, and Mom and Pop said they were terrified and yelling our names. They couldn’t see what we were fighting with as we were in the high grass by the creek. Well, we (Dima and Meashka) double-teamed the dirty dude and came away (finally) victorious. We were rewarded with a complete hosing off. O yeah, and some bacon on our kibble. Mom is still shaking. We are pooped.
Is life back to normal at Howling Arabians? Maybe…Pop is getting his cast off today.

Oh, b, you always make me smile; but I do like the meaning of plagiarism as “literary thief”.

O.Howlers: Yikes! What an exciting (scary for mom & dad) morning your household has had! Those coons can be fierce fighters, so happy to hear you guys were victorious.

Good Morning Blue Cat & All!

Fight!… Wow! A real get-down-and-dirty raccoon fight!…snort!…I wish I could have been there to watch it…heh!…. I haven’t been in or seen a good fight for a really long time now. When did we last go visit the farm and my friend Pepper?…sniff!…That was the last time I had a good fight going…grunt!

Wolfie, Why don’t you just do a delayed shipping?

Oley, You guys needed my help or Mr. Redbone’s. I have never actually encountered a coon, but they can be nasty, and can do serious damage to a dog, so be careful!

Barb says she needs to know who submitted the Diet Cherry Cola Salad recipe, and also needs a brief comment or 2 on it. You can just write it on here if that is easier.

    Good Morning Everyone!

OH: Sounds like you are mixed martial arts experts! Glad you got the best of that racoon! I hope that you did not suffer any injuries.

I’m glad no OleyHowlers were hurt in that fight. Those raccoons can be mean. Finally your dad gets his cast off. Now tell him not to start running a marathon right away. Hope your mom’s stomach treats her well today.

Barb and Maggie: That is Macy MinPin’s recipe and she did comment that the bowl to put it in was probably not optional. I think that’s what she said.

Melanie: Your video yesterday was great. And educational.

    Morning everyone!
OleyHowlers – you be careful!! Those big raccoons can do a lot of damage and they are ferocious fighters. We had a raccoon/bear fight in our yard once, when we lived right next to a state game preserve in Pennsylvania. The noise they made was terrible. And not sure, but we think the raccoon won.

Wolfie – you are such a tenderhearted, gentle doggie. “poor little raccoon” indeed. Bet the Howlers didn’t think it was so little. Or sweet.

    Good Morning All!

Riö, I know you can do this! You and your friend are wonderful! Plus you have your minds in your heads.

My mind is now attached, but not sure if it’s back completely.

Raccoons: Always made to look cute in the movies, they do that washing of their food stuff, if you look at their paw prints they look like hands, and boy they can be MEAN!

Thanks for the cudos on the video!

Rio: I submitted two recipies, but only one on Whitey-Lance’s behalf as the other is sticky and not friendly for those with fur. We don’t have pictures for our recipies. A picutre of W.L. in his jacket is fine, but I do like the idea of a collage for the cover with all the Plunderers. To me, the cookbook is about all the Plunderers, not just the one who is known for his wandering.

B&M and B Stover: Is it too late to submit one last recipie? I saw a dear friend last night and I mentioned the cookbook. She said she would like to submit a recipie of her jam. Her homemade jam is a favorite of AJs—in fact, we’ve joked about him going down the trail with a jar in one hand and a spoon in the other. She said she could get me the recipie today.

I think it would be more appropriate to have a picture of the quilt on the cover of the cookbook……or a collage of the Plunderers. Perhaps a picture of Whitey-Lance in his jacket could go next to one of Rebecca’s recipes.

    B. Stover: I just emailed my friend to nudge her to get her recipe to me asap. It is the best jam I’ve ever had (second to my mother’s jam).

Sam: A. Kat may be busy working covering up a hole that mysteriously appeared on a quilt, couch or comfy chair. If that is the case, I think there might be a vandal on the loose framing Plunderers for unsavory acts.

Well, we’ve been sleeping off our victory all day, while Mom & Pop went to get his cast off. Can you believe he can now walk??? Altho still using crutches, he said just til he builds up strength in that leg he didn’t use for 6 weeks.
That raccoon could have never hurt us. We are tough guys, you know. H-U-S-K-I-E-S !!! Born to kill. So no worries. We are fine.

O.K. guys. Now for the straight scoop. The sounds this morning were horrendous. That groundhog was louder than both Dima & Meashka. And yes he was huge and ferocious. And yes Mom was terrified and Pop was so frustrated because of the cast thing. Now, Dima is limping, and Meashka has blood on her head (hers? or the coon’s we don’t know). And her ear is cut. They are not much good for anything. So don’t believe all their bellicose talk. Who knows how badly that could have ended if it would have only been one husky out there finding the raccoon? Not pretty.

I do have to say that I don’t like coming out of the hills to drive. MA drivers are the WORST. What’s a turn signal? Hang my phone up? I also like those how merge in to the highway. They don’t YIELD! Even though the sign is there.

The worst spot is in Boston. A down ramp off of one of the highways comes down into a 5 corner crossing. THERE’S NO STOP LIGHT! No yield, no nothing . . . everyone for themselves!! YIKES!

Even though I’ve said that, I have no trouble driving in the city. I tend to be aggressive in Boston and NYC. Also since my car is NOT new, I can play chicken with idiots with new cars.

O.K. our bad luck continues. Pop has this ugly thing on his back that he has had for many years. Had it looked at by a doc years ago and was told not to worry about it. It grew bigger in the past year, and while he was having to sponge-bathe for the past 6 weeks, it started getting rubbed and was bleeding so it had to have a band-aid on. Mom asked him to have it re-checked while he was out of work. He went to the doc last week, and the doc cut it off. Doc didn’t think it was anything but sent it to the lab anyway. Today, after Pop came back from getting his cast off (no, Melanie, we didn’t take it off), the doctor’s office called to say that it was skin cancer !! It has a cyst under it and now he has to go to a surgeon to get that removed and tested!!!!! When is our Pop going to be back to the fun guy we miss?

    Hey OHowlers,
Mr.Staff had to have a skin cancer removed from his forehead. Staff went with him when he had the year later checkup and made the doctor look at his back. Had to have another one off.
    (Mr.Staff can’t see his back!)
That was three years ago and so far so good. :-)
Good luck to your Dad too.

Your dad should do just fine with having the skin cancer removed. Mom and dad have both had skin cancer before and now have to go in for regular checkups. It is very common in this state.

    Barb and Maggie,
I have to report a sad failure in the tomato patch. I forgot to put tin cans around the tomato plants and they were ruined by cutworms. So I went to the plant store 4 blocks away and bought some store tomatoes. Sigh. I loved those purple Cherokee’s when I grew them several years ago. The new plants have the cans around them.
I think the problem is we always plant tomatoes in the same tiny spot in Minneapolis. At the farm I move them to a new place every year.
I planted scarlet runner beans instead of the Kentucky wonder. They are being gnawed on by bunnies. I see bunnies in the yard all the time. Hopefully they will get big enough to be ignored by the bunnies soon.

It is early here for gardening. The weatherman said that it was too cold in the usual normal planting date. We did have 4 days of really hot weather and then it cooled off again. Thank dog!

All: Rio’s friend and I are both beat, but two heads are better than one. Below is a little promo that we drafted the Spence can plageri—I mean, use with permission to promote the online auction:

Chet and friends are big fans of Snowhook Kennel. Big Fans. So, it was no surprise when the Plunderers united to support Snowhook Kennel in the 2012 Iditarod. One of the many ways the Plunderers have decided to support Snowhook is by hosting an online auction.

From July 2nd to July 10th you can join in the fun and bid on items donated by the Plunderers to raise funds for Chet’s favorite dog sledding team. Bid on artwork and crafts created exclusively for the auction, quilted projects, dog sledding items from Snowhook Kennel, and so much more. Did I mention the much more includes an Advanced Reader Copy of The Dog Who Knew Too Much?

This auction isn’t just for the Plunderers so spread the word, and put the online auction on your to-do list. Details are forthcoming—get ready for a bidding war to begin!

All proceeds from this auction will support Snowhook’s 2011/2012 race season.

Hi T&G! Yes, i’m the designer. Bribable….hmmm, unlikely if it doesn’t involve a batch of Wolfie’s toffee!

Which reminds me, Wolfie, don’t forget that if I win the bid on the toffee, it will be too hot at this end to mail it at christmas time, so maybe it could be spring/autumn toffee?

Oh dear Liz – we NEVER meant to imply that we would ever attempt to try something like bribery. Not us…
By the way, have we told you lately how much we admire you for your obvious intelligence and artistic talent and class and integrity and wisdom and skill and devotion to Cricket and on top of that, you are SO fashionable what with Frobisher and all. And we can tell just by your writing style that you are lovely too. And so young looking. (Is there anything else we could mention?)

Man, it’s getting pretty darn deep in here — not that you don’t deserve every word of it, my dear Liz!

In any case, I’m among those hitting the sack, so to speak — only in my case it’s the couch, but close enough!

    Goodnight, y’all!!!

T&G: We could gush further, but I’m sure humility is also on the Liz list. We wouldn’t want to over do it.

But Bella, whatever could you mean? We are only being honest in our sincerest admiration for the designer of the cookbook who will decide on the cover art and photos.
By the way Liz, just to mention it, there is an awfully cute picture of two adorable little Corgi dishlickers in the stack….

T&G: Speaking of adorable corgis, I love your avatar.

I’m looking forward to seeing the cover of the cookbook. It’s like waiting for a book from a favorite author to be released—oh, the suspense…

I sent in the jam recipe from my friend to the dishlicker email tonight. That is all the submissions from Snowhook and friends.
