Auction

“We need to get up to speed on this auction,” Admin says. “Snowhook. Iditarod.”

“I remember,” says Spence. “How about when I come back?”

“Grumble.”

“But I was thinking our offering should be a signed advance reader copy of The Dog Who Knew Too Much.”

“Hmmm.”

B: We downloaded your 2nd draft of Who’s Who…it looks great. Thanks so much for putting this together, and thanks to all for your input. We newcomers appreciate it, even if that evil pug will never accept more Sibes.

    Good Morning All!

I’m jealous that Spence is in New York for the start of Fleet Week. When I worked in NYC, Fleet Week was a wonderful experience! It’s great to see all the sailors who protect our freedoms, and it just makes you feel so proud. I heart all our service men, women, and four-leggeds!

My heart goes out to those in Arkansas, Okalahoma, and Kansas who were affected by the tornados last night. I’m also very proud of the volunteers and rescuers, particularly the four-leggeds who are providing their services.

B: Where can I download the Who’s Who?

Yes, thank you Bee. We are going to copy the list too.

Looks like we will have another item we will be bidding on. Very exciting.

Melanie, have you recovered from your heavy equipment operating?

We have lots of thunder and rain right now. TV is out. Before we lost reception, just saw the Casey Anthony defense story. Does anyone believe it? Sounds like a cock-and-bull story to us!

    Barb and Maggie,
I tried to access dishlickers@yahoo.com and got a major Red Warning that it was a phishing site. What did I do wrong?

  10. Barb & Maggie

TYB, I don’t know, I haven’t gotten that warning. But I am receiving your recipes on my regular email.

  11. Mollypop

Tyb – You have to go to yahoo.com first, then sign in as dishlickers with the password. After that, Mail is on the left.

You guys are making me crackup beginning with Admin’s “Grumble.”

Before anyone copies the list let me make sure it’s the final draft. I’ll do it right now. (Melanie: I’ll send it to you also.)

Rose and Tyb: It’s on the dishlickers site. I don’t know why Tyb got that message. It’s an email site.

I had a great time on the backhoe / bulldozer. Considering using it for a guy who thinks he knows better than two doctors!

Don’t worry though, HE’S STAYING ON THE MEDS!

Hard to get through Zoë and me . . .

I don’t believe my eyes. Am I still dreaming? Did Spence and Admin just say what I think they said? This week just keeps getting better and better!

Melanie: Loved your photos from yesterday – especially Supervisor Mac and you having fun with the backhoe (a pink bulldozer – now that’s a picture to imagine!) Was finally able to locate the card too! By the way, how IS that pool site this morning – any rain last night? The story of Tom’s new kitty is heartwarming. You’ll notice how the ones that go over the Bridge always seem to send another to watch over and comfort those left behind.

Last night, instead of our usual reading, we watched “Concert for George” – a touching tribute to George Harrison. Well, needless to say, Nana was soon smiling from ear to ear and singing along with the old familiar tunes. It wasn’t so easy to return to a sleep mode from there. We’re with Sam – we will probably take it easy today.

Good Morning Everyone! Here’s to another great day!

B, Mom’s recipes are still on the draft part of the dishlickers site. Should she redo and actually email it ? We guess we should be asking Barb that. Also, we had added something late last night for our bio. Can u update the list for us? We know u already emailed Spence his, but this way it will be on the list for the plunderer. Thanks.

  24. Melanie

That’s wonderful about the ARC. Totally cool. Go head and bid on it everyone!

(whispering) Heh, heh, heh, while all the Plunderers and Lurkers spend their money on the ARC, I will be able to bid on W-L’s shirt and tag! YEA! Whoops. whispering out.

Great Canine minds think alike, Chet. I was hoping that a signed ARC would go into the auction. Woo Woo It doesn’t get any better than this!!

Did we remember to include Bluecat in our plunderers list?
I know I am remembering this a little late, but you know me.

  27. Barb & Maggie

SH: Yes, Bluecat is on the list. It’s just a short entry because she didn’t add anything.

I’ve put the Second Final Draft (laughing at the title) on dishlickers. I’ll send it to Spence (and Melanie–keeper of the keys–I’ll send one to you also) but I’ll wait until tonight. The second fd has more info for G&BB and Macy.

Ahhhh, er, BStover please check your secret decoder device. I have been playing with the new list of blog members and added a few and expanded a few and put it in alphabetical order cause that was driving me crazy.

I added Buford, Fatty Kitty and gave Alice and Abbie their own lines. I also noted who was on the quilt.

    Ahem.

If you say it is OK then I might post it on the blog for any corrections from the populace.

GusBooBear: Last night you were asking about donations for Orion. I sent in my last donation for him. After all, he is the teammate of Whitey-Lance! I guess it doesn’t matter who we sponsor as all the dogs could use the backing.

Melanie: Good thoughts here for YSAS!

B: Good link about the tornadoes.

A big Shout-Out to Rio, for all his hard work on the Auction (Melanie & MollyPop for technical expertise), and to B, for compiling the Plunderers Who’s Who List. Also, to Barb&Maggie, B, Melanie and Liz for their help with the Cookbook. To everyone else who contributed, a Big Thank You from Bear, who is less talented in those areas, but does know how to APPRECIATE the efforts of others.

Staff: I’ve added your information to the list but couldn’t cut and paste from your site because it came out with a different background. Thus, the list is not in alphabetical order. Actually I don’t know if it should be because we have those with relationships together. (I put Buford after Kirby for example.)

Should we put the list in alphabetical order?

We lost our internet connection and just got back on. What a drag. So we started reading last nite’s blog from when we went to bed. OMG more drama. Poor Macy. Why are there so many darn tornadoes this year? This is so vary scary.

  43. B.Stover
    1:29 pm on May 25th, 2011

MollieABP: Sure send recipes. You just use “compose mail” and send it to dishlickers@yahoo.com. You can either send it as an attachment or within the email itself.

I ordered the dvd of Downton Abbey and it just came. It’s the original UK uncut edition and the extras include “A House in History.” It was only $16 from amazon and has three discs. This will be fun!

  45. B.Stover

Bear: I found the save section on dishlickers.

Plunderers: Do you want the list in alphabetical order or not? The thing to ask yourselves is, which is easiest for our purposes? (It will be no problem to get it alphabetized as long as Staff sends that version to me as an attachment rather than in an email message.) The Third Final Draft is on dishlickers. (This reminds me of putting the college literary magazine together!)

That’s a scary tennis ball BSD!

YSAS is coming home for the weekend. His cousins are graduating college AND they are all going to help with the pool.

Keep YSAS in your prayers. His long time GF has broken up with him. She is having family problems (her parents are in their 70’s) and she’s feeling overwhelmed. YSAS wants to WORK, to forget other things.

I wonder why cats arch their backs when in attack mode. (Real question.)

  60. Tupper and Gilly
    3:53 pm on May 25th, 2011

Lots of questions for the day –
First off – please, Macy, do check in.
Bee – we saw the listing of the “cast of characters”. We didn’t mean to take up a whole paragraph about us – you are free to edit it as you desire.
the KAts on the other hand said that they not only meant to take up a paragraph – they think there should be a whole page devoted to them.
Barb- Mama says she will send you some main dish recipes. When she asked our Dad what recipe he thought she should send, he started with her Lasagna, and then went to Chicken Picata, Cube Steaks Chez Nous and her Stuffed Hamburg Pie…..
Then he suggested that she make the Lasagna now and he would make notes as she went along (most of the time she cooks by “feel”)
Melanie – can we get that backhoe fired up again soon?
We just got an email from a friend in Oklahoma – she was at a conference at a state park when a tornado touched down – thank dog, all the campers were in the welcome center by then, but her description of the event was terrifying. Everyone was safe but the campground was devastated – they had watched campers caught in the funnel cloud go sailing over the welcome center….

  61. BearSpiritDog
    3:53 pm on May 25th, 2011

B: I think it is a defense strategy. An arched back, laid back ears, and a fierce hiss will scare off most any attacker.

    Hi Magpie in Illinois!

  62. Basil and Sage
    3:57 pm on May 25th, 2011

Bee – cats arch up so that their center of balance is ready for a strike. By arching we shift the inertia to our hind legs so we can repeatedly strike out with our front claws.
(besides, it just looks so much cooler to do it that way)

  63. BARB & MAGGIE
    4:02 pm on May 25th, 2011

    Back at ya Bear!

We first read T & G’s report and thought camper people were sailing thru the air!

  64. BearSpiritDog
    4:03 pm on May 25th, 2011

T&G: I understand perfectly about cooking “by feel”. Nana does so and also #1 Son, which is the reason we can’t get his Hearty Chicken Soup recipe. Because it isn’t really a “recipe”. What a frightening story about the folks at that campground! And, the extreme weather continues today with alerts for St. Louis, Kansas, Nebraska, Illinois. Be careful everyone!

Macy: We haven’t heard from you yet today. PLEASE CHECK IN!

  65. Macy the Min-Pin
    4:05 pm on May 25th, 2011

B&M: I just put the flank steak recipe on dishlickers. (It’s a meal plan: steak, salad, garlic bread and Grand Marnier sherbert for dessert.)

Thank you for the arched back explanations.

  67. Melanie
    4:10 pm on May 25th, 2011

    From sniksnak.com

Why do cats arch their backs?
The cat’s arching back is actually part of his complex body-language system. Not only does he arch his back as a form of stretching “sleepy” muscles after a nap, the arched back is also a form of showing that the cat is feeling threatened. In the latter case, the arched back is usually accompanied by his hair standing out all over his body, especially on his tail. He may even turn sideways to present an even more impressive profile to scare away a threatening animal. His arch is able to get so high because his spine contains nearly 60 vertebrae (humans only have about 34) which fit together loosely, giving him that incredible flexibility.

My back could use some more flexibility . . . Hmmm. I wonder if my health care would cover that . . .

  68. Melanie
    4:11 pm on May 25th, 2011

Macy: Glad all are accounted for, but sorry about the truck.

  74. dawson
    4:34 pm on May 25th, 2011

Melanie: I’m sad to hear of YSAS’s GF breaking up with him. She seems so right for him. I will hope and pray for some challenging roles to come his way.
Pink Backhoe! Up where I live a contractor had his backhoe “borrowed” one night and returned the next day…painted pink! “Herb’s Hoe” was printed on the side.

Now that Orion is sponsored we can move on to sponsoring Charlie. I’m all for that. And…now that the Iditarod entry fee is covered (thank you, anonymous donor), we must all be thinking that Snowhook will win that drawing to get the entry fee returned. Go Snowhook!

    Oh no!
An ARC in the auction! I can’t afford everything. Some tough choices will have to be made.

We managed to get that “recipe” now will have to test it prior to submitting it to the cookbook. Like B’s flank steak, it would be a meal – soup with warm french bread, a tossed green salad and dessert of your choice – like Rio’s Strawberry Dessert. Is it supper time yet?

Recipe!….I can’t believe that all I have out there is one lousy recipe….grump!…She always does this to me, she always embarrasses me in front of my friends and foes….grunt!… Why can’t she get off her butt and write down some of her recipes already? ….snarl! …I know she has some photos of the ‘Case Noodle’ and the ‘Very Little Cabbage Rolls’ already….sniff!

Sorry about YSAS, Melanie. Girlfriend may regret her decision at some point.

What’s really funny are that the mothers of GF’s usually regret more than the GFs!
I hope this one comes around. Really like her.

Rio, I only have one recipe up also. I’m trying to get my sister’s Potato and Leek soup recipe. Yummers.

Thank the Dog it’s time to eat supper! Too much food talk.

I don’t want mom to see this because she says Rebecca has enough to do, BUT, Rebecca could put in the cookbook what the team eats on the trail, plus their snacks, of course. Mom could fix some of it for me…I’m just saying.

Just checking in quickly before we are shuffled off again. So glad Macy checked in. Everybody be careful and pay attention to the weather these days. We want this tornado season to end already.

Rio: our mom only gave us one recipe, and its just a snack. She doesn’t cook much, and when she does, she uses recipes in books that she likes.

Is anyone watching Idol Finale tonite?

  86. Mollypop
    6:46 pm on May 25th, 2011

Oleys – Mom has been tuned into every Idol show this year – the talent was so good. She thinks Lauren is the winner. What’s funny is that Steven Tyler said she would be the American Idol, but that was way back when she first auditioned.

Bear, Not sure if anyone answered you, but the cookbook is just for fun, not profit.

Barb is going to include a casserole receipe her mom used to make 40-50 years ago, before Hamburger Helper was invented. It has a hamburger/noodle base with tomatoe sauce and spices. We thought of Rio, because it also has sour cream and cottage cheese mixed with green onions in it. Barb and her sister and brother all still make Sour Cream Noodle Bake.

B&M: Thanks for letting me know. That hamburger casserole recipe sounds delish and a possibility for din-din tomorrow, if I can talk Mom into it. No, wait, she’s going to test the chicken soup recipe for the cookbook first.

Gah!…We just got back from a really long walk …wheeze!cough!…I really stirred things up in the hood tonight…heh!… We are back in time to watch the Rockies game and she is going to eat Hebrew National hotdogs and potato salad once she gets hungry…heh!…Me too, if I am lucky….snort!

Finales!….Don’t anybody tell us who won The Biggest Loser. We are going to try and watch that this weekend over at my house where we still have On Demand…grunt!

Clarkson!….Who dares break my Clarkson’s heart?…grump!….That girl will be soooo very sorry one day…ooooooer!…That just makes my pug blood boil!…growl! ….I still love you Clarkson, you are my most favorite actor besides Kevin Spacey right now…sniffle!

So Mama is in the kitchen roasting some veggies, making lasagna and (dammit) fixing ANOTHER piece of sculpture got broken in the firing process….dam dam dam dam dam……
The famous potter is going to fire for her in the future, but the old firing person had these pieces in her possession. She kept saying she would fire that night…and didn’t..and would fire the next night…and didn’t… Mama was just going to ask for them back when she brought in some of the pieces – and of course they are broken and mismatched etc. dam dam dam….
oh well, at least we don’t have tornados here….

Game!….When my friend turned the game on tonight her mother said, “Still the baseball? I thought it would be over by now.”….heh!…My friend said, “Well, it will go into November if we are really lucky.” …snort!….Silence from her mother as she walked away….snorkel!

Projects!…If my friend had to rely on someone else to finish her projects for her, she would be unbearable…grunt!…The finish has to be perfect or the whole load of bits and pieces are wasted….sniff!… To rely on someone else with her itty bitty objects at the end would be TORTURE for her!…heh! ….I’ve blown enough of them out of the tray with a sneeze or cough to know how serious she takes this stuff…wuffle!

  98. Basil and Sage
    9:11 pm on May 25th, 2011

Rio – you got that right. Mama is always a nervous wreck when she has to bring stuff to be fired. We have a friend who does incredible statue style sculptures that he casts in bronze. You have to have a foundry do that kind of work, and he goes crazy til he knows the first cast is done.
Must be kind of like that if you are a writer and have to turn your stuff over to an editor….

  99. Riö - The Evil Pug

Macy: Will the insurance take care of your dad’s new truck? It is very sad but, like Redbone said earlier, things can be replaced, not people.

Hey, y’all! Mom and Dad are still gone — I overheard my boy telling Mom on the phone that I’ve been moping. It’s not that I don’t like my boy. It’s just that Mom and Dad are gone (my boy accuses me of being a Daddy’s boy!) and those dang girl dogs are still here! Life’s so hard sometimes!!!

Ha ha ha Rio, We had Hebrew National hotdogs and potato salad tonight too! Do you think it is something in the air? Maybe it blew up here in all those tornadic winds? Anyway Dawson made me go shopping today and then I didn’t want to cook so that is what we did. Potato Salad from the co-op and HN hotdogs with whole wheat buns. Yum.

Then after a quick game of cards Dawson and I cleared out the freezer on the top of the refrigerator. Boy did it need it. Now Dawson, at my request, will be making some gingersnap cookies. Only so I can take pictures of them for the cookbook of course.
    Heh
I suppose I had better go help her.

    BBL everyone.
Macy so glad you are OK. What a night last night. Stay safe everyone.

Melanie: I know you’ve already gone to bed, but I just wanted to tell you how bad I feel for YSAS. It’s so hard when someone you love loses someone who’s important to them. A few years ago my boy dated a girl for about a year, and then she started acting strange. My boy asked her if something was wrong, and she kept insisting that everything was just fine. And then he came home for Christmas and told us he’d finally found out what was going on with his girlfriend. He brought up her Facebook page, and there she was in her wedding gown — she was dating my boy and planning her wedding to a (formerly) ex-boyfriend at the same time! Church, bridesmaids, white dress, flowers — the whole nine yards!!!

I just made it to the half way point of my commute home and thought I’d check in. Grump. It looks like many calling it an early night.

Melanie: Sorry to hear that YSAS is hurting right now. A broken heart, like a broken leg takes time to heal.

Kirby: We have a pup, Garrett that has your same ears—-one’s a flip and the other is a flop.

SiberH: Can we blame the marauding goats if your mom sees your cookbook request? Btw: I’ll draft something up.

  109. Siber-H

Staff, Tell Dawson that if she has any kind of little personal blurb about the cookie recipe to send it. It’s fun to include a little background, sort of like you did. If she sends it, I will attach to the recipe b-4 sending to Bee.

Bee, I will look for your recipe tomorrow and copy it, Sounds good!

I can’t believe a girl would behave that way, Kirby. I think you are luck that one “got away” How awful! Girls like that give female dogs a bad name.

I am sure Melanie is feeling bad, too. We mothers always feel our kid’s pain. You are only as happy as your unhappiest child. Maybe they will work things out after a little space. If not, then you have to pick up the pieces and move on.

That’s a good idea Rebecca. I’m concerned that with all the recipes (it seems like there’ll be quite a number) and lots of pics, it will make for quite a large PDF file. Best to keep it down to a dull roar.

Oh yes, that would be an excellent thing to have. Perhaps you could attach it to a mammoth dog bed with mastiff coordinated removable slipcovers.
