Aristotle (Revised)
“You look a little something or other today,” says Spence. “Nine eleven?”
Admin nods. “Specifically the constant reference to what happened as a tragedy. Aristotle says tragedy is something the protagonist brings on himself, through some flaw or mistake within. Nine eleven wasn’t a tragedy. The proper word is outrage. No one called Pearl Harbor a tragedy. It was a day that would live in infamy.”
Aristotle: a new one on me. There was a perp name of Aristotle Kakatatis some time back, trafficker in fake Yanni concert tickets – don’t ask me what that’s all about – but this didn’t sound like him.

Good morning, y’all! Mom didn’t watch any of that stuff yesterday. She also skipped church, because she knew they were going to be doing a special service. Mom gets too emotional about that kind of stuff. She still cried enough without it.
9:00 am on September 12th, 2011
We did watch some of the tributes, but you are right Kirby, it was very very sad.
Today we are going to have a happy day, and may get our book delivery. We can’t wait! Barb is also going to call Wellesly and order her signed copy, as a B-day present to herself.
Staff, thank you for the info on the pdf. last night.
Oley, thank you for the Facebook post. Barb clicked on your FB page and looked at some of your photos. First of all, your home is breathtakingly beautiful(and the barn, too), and second, Barb was in awe over some pics with a certain Pres. We have no pics, just a memory. We are very impressed with your Mama, Oleyhowlers! Also liked that Arab saying about the air between a horse’s ears being heaven. Very true!
9:10 am on September 12th, 2011
I was listening to the tribute and broke down when they rang the old fire bell. Cried enough yesterday. An outrage, yes, even a day in infamy, but as a country we survive.
On a much light note. MagPie came over EARLY this morning herding this thing! She wanted me to take a picture, so I did. I kept the Pack off it, but I don’t know how it survived the trip home. Perhaps MagPie has learned the difficult art of herding while blurring?

CARPOLA!
So let me rename this thing . . .
Grumble, snigglefritz, no coco yet. darnat . .
HOLD ON!

The book Thunder Dog, about the blind man and his dog, is a story Mom knew two days after 9/11. Her company, Ingram Micro, had seven people on a business call with the blind man on the 72nd floor. Her company’s manager stayed behind to help the blind man and documented it all in an email that quickly passed throughout the company.

Morning All!
Barb, Many happy returns of the day!!!
Excellent job on the cake, Melanie! Lookin’ good yourself, Maggie.
I’m so impressed with all the poets on the blog!
10:33 am on September 12th, 2011
Good morning to everybody.
I’m with Kirby on the 9/11 coverage. I was working so it was easy to stay away from. Except for the constant reminders from my co-workers asking me about it. Like I’m an expert. Not.
No computer at home since Friday. Been working all the time anyhoo. The man who fixes these things gets back late tonight so maybe tomorrow.
Happy Birthday Barb! Can I have a piece of that cake with my whine?
10:38 am on September 12th, 2011

She just tells it the way it is!

I agree completely with Admin.
Happy birthday Barb.
Good morning all.
Off to class.
10:48 am on September 12th, 2011
Melanie, from Barb. That cake is fantastic! And Maggie is using upmost control with those fluffy icing chickens. She hasn’t taken even one bite! I hope the cake is gluten free.
Loving Kirby’s poem, T & G’s song, and all the other well wishers. Going to have a lovely day here. And dirt and s**t are closely related you know!
11:06 am on September 12th, 2011
Barb: Do you have to go to Crazy Lady Land today? I sure hope not, because that would seem to be a good way to ruin a great birthday!!!
11:15 am on September 12th, 2011
Well, gotta go now. Mom has to stop on the way to work and get a new headlight put on her car because one is burnt out and Dad tried to figure out how to change it but couldn’t.
BBL!

Kirby, Just Thurs and Fri at CLL. The rest of our weeks are peaceful.
11:18 am on September 12th, 2011
Hey Dawson…Missing you on the blog.
Melanie: Loved the link! Nice picture of SQ/PA with Audrey.
11:19 am on September 12th, 2011
Happy Birthday Barb! I’m with Kirby on not having to go to CLL today.
Melanie, Great cake and Maggie looks very pretty standing there.
Thanks for the link! Audrey is the co-star of that interview, which is really neat.
Yanni concert tickets…that is pretty funny.
11:28 am on September 12th, 2011
Happy Birthday, Barb!
11:30 am on September 12th, 2011
Kirby, They just keep making things like headlights and tail lights more and more difficult to fix on cars.
Mom has to put a new battery in my truck today. I will supervise.
Mollypop, Are you going to read Thunder Dog? I think it might be painful to read.
Macy, Do let us know if you like it.
11:41 am on September 12th, 2011
Happy Birthday Barb. (And check you SDD).
Dawson — good to hear from you — we still need you to post your mailing address on Dishlickers so we can face the challenge of subjecting your cookbook to the vagaries of the Canadian postal system.
Wookie
11:45 am on September 12th, 2011
Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday Barb!!!
And, no CL to contend with makes it a very good day.
Melanie, as usual, the cake is fantastic! I think Maggie showed great restraint in not sampling it. Loved that link – Coffee with a Canine and the picture of Spence and Audrey looking up at him adoringly.
Good to hear from you Dawson! Note: I think we all need Ipaws as a backup for those times of computer failure and when on the road.
Have a Good Day Everyone.

The coffee cup in Spencer’s and Audrey’s picture has on it “Behind the Curtain”. Now why does that sound familiar? And why don’t I have one in my cabinet?
Pondering here . . .
12:24 pm on September 12th, 2011
Someone should sell Chet and Bernie T-shirts. Mom would buy one and wear it.
12:34 pm on September 12th, 2011
Hmm….frost on the ground and ice on the windshield this morning. Maybe instead of reading TDTKTM I should have been raking leaves. It always snows in September (Labor Day weekend was the earliest) so I should know better than procrastinate. Time to unpack my winter gear…
12:42 pm on September 12th, 2011
C.Harris: My opinion is that you read and wait for the snow to cover up the leaves. That’s eating your cake and having it too!
How much light are you down to a day?
12:56 pm on September 12th, 2011
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain…
1:09 pm on September 12th, 2011
Dawson, I sent your address to dishlickers so you can relax about that.
Hope your computer gets back online soon.
Happy Birthday Barb! That cake looks great! I have no idea how Maggie could herd it that far! Such an amazing dog.
Here’s hoping Rio’s friend is still sane. ;-D
1:32 pm on September 12th, 2011
Thanks for the site Melanie. I really like that picture of Spence and Audrey.
1:43 pm on September 12th, 2011
We enjoyed the Coffee with Canines site too. What fun!
Rio may be getting close to home by now, no?
Wookie, thank you for all the info on our SDD. We will persue it.
Barb ordered her signed book from Wellesly. Will be shipped Thursday.
1:50 pm on September 12th, 2011
Staff and Dawson. Got the address and the cookbook will be in the mail soon. Wookie

Barb – Happy Birthday! What a great cake – I think that’s Peaches on the left.
Siber-H – About Thunder Dog, it says it refers to the Larry King interviews with Hingson and Roselle. I was disappointed with those interviews because the manager from my company was never mentioned. I know the real story because it was written 2 days after 9/11. Six of the Ingram Micro employees left immediately and the manager stayed with Hingson, not to be a hero, but to unplug the computer equipment. Hingson and Roselle saved the manager’s life because they walked down the left side of the stairway passing everyone. Once they got on the ground, the building collapsed and they were in the cloud of dust. The manager then saved them by getting inside a building and later walking and walking and finally getting a taxi.
2:40 pm on September 12th, 2011
Hi Siber-H: Those T-shirts sound like a money-maker to me. I would love to have a couple myself!!!!
3:17 pm on September 12th, 2011
Mollypop, thanks for the inside scoop. It will make reading the book more personalized.
Mom learned today how to figure what percent something is of something else. Hat tip to anyone who chooses to do the numbers kind of work. She had to come home from school and get the kinks out of her brain.
3:31 pm on September 12th, 2011
Thanks Mollypop! Your story has a happy ending! What a nightmare for all those people.
Macy, hat tip to your mom for learning all of this.
3:36 pm on September 12th, 2011
Macy, I remember that I learned why fractions were they way they were only when I taught them to my students.
YSAS is not going to be a dead person in a 1920’s bathing suit. 🙁
The area the scout picked to film the scene is full of BEES.
They don’t want anyone to show too much skin.
So now he’s a happy dead person in the Afterlife in a regular shirt.

4:19 pm on September 12th, 2011
We just checked our mailbox and no cookbooks yet, but guess what! The Dog Who books were in there. Kind of confusing, because they were from UPS, so we thought they would deliver to the porch, not the mailbox, but who cares. We have them! Barb said she had to read One Good Turrn first, but she just finished the first chapter in Dog Who. Just like that, she opened the box, sat down, and opened a book. She says she is going to control herself, and just read a little bit. Yeah, right!
4:27 pm on September 12th, 2011
B&M: Yay! What a nice b-day present. I told myself I would read just a chapter of Dog Who since I was in the middle of “Freedom.” Now, I am almost done with The Dog Who…. 🙂
4:34 pm on September 12th, 2011
Wookie: I received the cookbook today. It is lovely. Thank you for all of your work.
(I hope Spence received the hardcover copy of the cookbook that I sent to him.)
4:38 pm on September 12th, 2011
Rose, It is hard to control the urge to pick up that book, isn’t it?
Molly, That definitely looks like Peaches on the left. I have been wanting to take a little bite out of her for so long, this may be my chance!
5:20 pm on September 12th, 2011
WOW!!! The cookbook just arrived!! We Love it!!
Remember, It is all new to us because we never went to dishlickers and looked at it. It’s a wonderful surprise!
My mom, who doesn’t really like to cook, is looking forward to trying some of the recipes. The photos in it are great!
Thank You Wookie! A big thanks to all of you who worked so hard on it. I know a lot of time was spent on it and it shows!
5:20 pm on September 12th, 2011
I konw that everybody is ready to leave the 9/11 remembrances behind, but there was an incredible article in Saturday’s Wall Street Journal entitled “Dog Therapy at Ground Zero” about a golden retriever named Nikie who spent 8 months at Ground Zero giving comfort to workers amid the ruins. I only found the link to the article today, which is why I did not post it before, but it is definitely worth reading. Wookie

O Boy! O Boy! O Boy!!!! We had a big fat envelope in the mail again today. This time it was the Dishlickers Cookbook ! What a masterpiece. Thanks very much Wookie and Wookie’s Mom! We are going to “hound” Mom to cook stuff from the book because it all looks so great. And we know she loves that its got spirals!
We love the cake Melanie made for Barb’s birthday. Happy Birthday to Barb from us Howlers (we know Mom was able to post that on FB from her work earlier today).
5:37 pm on September 12th, 2011
Welcome back Dawson!! Did you see the poem we posted on Saturday? The book arrived ! It didn’t take long at all. We think the MGs are afraid to venture into PA !
6:21 pm on September 12th, 2011
Thank you for that link Wookie. A reminder the nation within does amazing healing work.
Nana said since she did a lot yesterday she deserves to take the rest of the day off. Curling up with a good book no doubt. Which one? It may have a Green cover…..
See you all tomorrow – Bear
6:29 pm on September 12th, 2011
Thanks for that link, Wookie. That was a beautiful story, even for our mom who does not like to talk about that day.
6:49 pm on September 12th, 2011
On October 1st, come high water or storm, I’m going to see PA/SQ two hours away from here. I’m thinking of printing out that lovely picture of him and Audrey and having him sign that for The Pack!
6:53 pm on September 12th, 2011
Barb, what did you decide to have him sign on your book?
6:59 pm on September 12th, 2011
Wookie: Could you ask your mom to check her SDD?
Melanie: Remember what I said the other day via SDD about missing puppies? Guess what?—We are Snowhook plus two. I don’t have much in the way of details, but Zebbe, a female addition to the kennel this last spring gave birth to two pups. One boy, one girl. I love them already.
7:01 pm on September 12th, 2011
Howlers: what’s the latest on Duke?
7:02 pm on September 12th, 2011
Wooks, I posted my info for you, only the subject says SSD. I just want to go on record that I do know that it is SDD. I think my nails may need a slight trim. *shudder*
7:04 pm on September 12th, 2011
Rebecca, I cannot even imagine how you keep an all out orgy from going on out in the kennels when no one is around. Has anyone claimed paternity of the wee pups?
7:10 pm on September 12th, 2011
Oh Melanie – go for it! Yes, yes!
7:20 pm on September 12th, 2011
Mom’s memories of that day will always be of the dream she had the morning the 4th plane went down in PA. It was so vivid and seemed so real. Sadly, it turned out to be very real. It helped her realize we are all connected. Another’s fate could very well have been our own.
Somehow we all tried to avoid it yesterday, but remember we must. It is how we remember that is important. Knowing how everyone came together as one that day. Strangers no more… working for a common cause with Courage & Bravery & Love & Trust.
The Plunderers are a reflection of that spirit of working together as one. Something we are all fortunate to be a part of.
7:28 pm on September 12th, 2011
Oh Melanie…could you print out two pictures and have Spence sign one for me also? Please? (I love that picture.)
7:39 pm on September 12th, 2011
Melanie, Excellent idea about the photo. Me too, I love the photo.
Stover, Excellent idea about having him sign one for you.
Oh Melanie?
(whispering) What has Stover started?
7:47 pm on September 12th, 2011
Oh dear…..

Mail!….Wooooo! ….We had a couple of great surprises waiting for us when we got home. One being The Dishlickers Cookbook!….Woooooo!…. We have not had time to look at it carefully, but what we did see was wonderful!…Wow! When we plunderers have ideas, we have good ideas!…snorkel! …What a great thing. We both just love, love, love it!…wheeze!… Thanks to all who made it happen. Really a most wonderful job!!!!…snort! …Wookie thank you and all of your family for sending it out to us. You Rock!…grunt!
Home!… I’m so happy to be home….sniff!…Even if the home is here with her mother, I am still very, very happy to be home….aaaahhhhh! …. Too damned bad my friend has to get up early and go to the busy place tomorrow morning…grunt!
8:19 pm on September 12th, 2011
Oley, As you guys know Barb is not overly creative (she is after all a numbers person). She told them “Barb, Thanks for the great advise on tin futures” or anything else he thought of that was cleaver regarding tin futures. She is giving him artistic license.
Have had a wonderful day. Going out to throw some marinated chicken on the grill.

Bella,
Duke is in a foster home of Tails of the Tundra Sibe Rescue. Mom is trying to get them to give him to her. Stay tuned….
Just one look…Mom says that is how she feels about Duke.
Welcome Home Rio !!!!
8:51 pm on September 12th, 2011
WELCOME HOME RIO!!! WOO WOO
I feel better just knowing you are back home in the Wild Wild West. I was lonely watching the Rockies games all by myself.
Fellow Sibers, My mom is holding her breath for your mom and Duke.
How can they not give him to her. Siber Rescues love experienced Husky owners. Paws crossed here.
8:59 pm on September 12th, 2011
Duke!…That name has got to go!…snort!…I keep thinking of John Wayne…wuffle!
9:03 pm on September 12th, 2011
Home!…I’m Home! I’m Home!…Home! Home! Home!…Woooooooo! Snort!…She feels even stronger than I do because I was having a great time out there on the animal farm and I got to sleep the whole way home…heh!heh!…She had to deal with the bullshit …grunt!…I say, forget about it and enjoy the football game tonight!…wooooo!
9:04 pm on September 12th, 2011
John Wayne got that name when he was a kid from his dog that folowed him around. The dog’s name was Duke.
The name Duke just does not work for a Siber.
9:06 pm on September 12th, 2011
Happy birthday, Barb! What a great present you bought for yourself in the autographed book. We did the same thing (a little early for Mom’s b-day on the 29th) but how cool that you both thought of the same thing. That was a super cool cake Melanie had Maggie bring you.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Wookie and Debbie LM. The cookbook arrived today and is just wonderful. Mom doesn’t cook, but Dad thinks that there are some recipes he may try out. It was so special of you to do that for us. We can’t thank you enough. We will probably make a simpler one for Stocking Stuffers…liked the one someone showed of the ring binder with the plastic sleeves for the pages. And Mom’s will be different than all the other relatives.
Rio is probably home by now. Hopefully, his friend will recover quickly from that vaca by thinking about her special vaca in March to Alaska! We’re still trying to figure out how Mom and Dad could go. If they win the lottery, Mom can quit her job and then it won’t matter if its the 1st of the month!!
Loved the article that Wookie linked for us. Hard to remember that day without tears for what so many suffered.
Macy, do you think it will ever rain in Texas again?
9:13 pm on September 12th, 2011
Oops, should have refreshed before posting…welcome home, Rio!!
Just keep thinking “north to Alaska!”
Melanie, IF Spence says its okay, you know everyone on the blog would LOVE that picture autographed. You will really enjoy your visit. Wonder if you could take one of the Newfs with you (along with Zoe and Dan, of course).
9:15 pm on September 12th, 2011
Macy. Thanks. I think I am the one who needs to get my nails trimmed though. Those keyboards can be a real challenge at times for those of us who are big-pawwed. Wookie

Puss N! Boots!… My friend says it would be so wonderful if you guys could make it up there!…woooo!… We could have a big ole Iditarod Party!…sniff!…But she also knows how the job thing goes and timing is a big deal at the busy place as well….snort!…Luckily the first of the month combined with winter time is great for us to travel!…wooooo! …North! North! North to Alaska!…heh!
9:27 pm on September 12th, 2011
Wow-just found this website looking for something else. Love it-as a mobile dog groomer it is right up my alley 🙂
9:28 pm on September 12th, 2011
We just got back from a trail ride with Mom and Annie (her mare). We haven’t done that in such a long time. That was so much fun, and now Mom is nice and relaxed and she says whatever happens with Duke is fine. If they already have someone waiting for him, so be it.
Get this…they changed his name at the Rescue … to Ammo !!! How awful is that? Makes Duke sound good.
Good night…we are all mighty tired after running after horses.
9:29 pm on September 12th, 2011
Welcome, Karen! You are going to love these guys on here! We sure do!
9:31 pm on September 12th, 2011

Hi Karen!
Good Night All
TTFN
9:55 pm on September 12th, 2011
Rio, Welcome home and thank you for the birthday wishes. Yes, glad it wasn’t yesterday!
9:57 pm on September 12th, 2011
Melanie,
Do you need badges? Are Dan and Zoe going to? Let me know soon because I will be gone by Thursday to the Treadle On Gathering and Academy (TOGA to you)in Lake City, Minnesota. That is where the vintage sewing machine collectors will be this weekend.
Wookie I loved the story about the retriever at Ground Zero. It was a time when people (and dogs) came together to help in any way possible. I tend to forget that and only remember the bad stuff.
Hello Karen! Welcome to the Blog
Welcome back Rio and Friend. I expect work will seem like a haven to you after being trapped in the car for 1700 miles! Just think, you don’t have to do that again for a lo-ong time.
9:58 pm on September 12th, 2011
Macy!
You are so right. That man was poodled up! (my computer doesn’t believe poodled up is in the dictionary.) 😀
10:06 pm on September 12th, 2011
Ammo!…Who the hell comes up with these gawd-awful names anyways…snort!gruffle!
Tired!…Someone here is very tired, but we are going to watch a little of the Monday Night Football game where the *lousy* Broncos play the **freakin obnoxious** Raiders…grunt!…The Raiders. Don’t get me started…gruffle!
10:10 pm on September 12th, 2011
Staff!…After a sniveling snarling phone-call tonight from her sister, chances are very great that we will N-E-V-E-R go back there again…grunt!…If they happen to come here, we will be indisposed the whole time…heh!
10:15 pm on September 12th, 2011
Outrage!…In my opinion does not equate to “All Poodled Up”…sniff!…Outrage in the context of 9-11 is far beyond what All Poodled Up really means…snort!… Outrage cuts far deeper and leaves an ever-lasting impression with emotions attached…gruffle!
10:22 pm on September 12th, 2011
Rio: Welcome home! I can’t wait to welcome your friend at the Anchorage airport! I agree—wouldn’t be amazing to have a Plunderer gathering at Iditarod.
Gus and BooBear: I wish that pesky work thing would stop getting in the way.
Speaking of awful names—Rio Jr’s original name was Chunk. Blah!
Karen: Welcome!

Bed! ….Our Own Bed!…heh!…I checked out my bed earlier and it is still here and it still smells the same…sniff!…All my toys are right where I left them and the bed is nice and warm and soft waiting for me tonight…heh!
Football!….Why hasn’t this damned game started yet???? We’ve been waiting for 25 minutes so far …grunt!…Well, we are sick and tired of waiting, let me tell you. All this waiting and waiting is related to the sniveling snarling phone call, so we are just going to go to bed now….Broncos can lose just as easy without us watching…heh!

I hadn’t even heard of this. Of course I know about Dunkirk.

Hi Karen!

Melanie: Thanks for dedicating the song to the newest mother.
Macy: How do we keep it from being a love fest in the kennel? Good question. Teaching abstinence or waiting for the right life partner didn’t take too well. Policing hormones over the year has involved fences, timing and several sleepless nights. I’ve been working on getting all the dogs fixed—with an entire kennel you can imagine that it is quite costly. Last year I acheived the goal of getting all our females fixed—that was before AJ brought Miss Zebbe home. The timing between acquiring our girl and sending the team to work with tourists for the summer didn’t work out for us.
I finally saw the picture of SQ/PA and his girl Audrey. You can feel the connection between the two. Wonderful!

Miss Macy: My main lead dog, Fargo who was also the alpha of the kennel was the ‘stud’ of choice. Some of the antics and efforts I saw by females in heat with the intent to engage Fargo in more than coversation was beyond what I could imagine. Fargo was always willing to oblige—hence the sleepless nights.

Hi everyone that is still up. Rio – when you read this in the morning WELCOME HOME! Glad you had a safe trip – even happier for you that it is now over.
Bella – Tupper loves puppies and would like to be a dogmother to the little ones. (Gilly just wants them to be old enough to be herded around)
This is it – the van is packed, the doggie beds are strapped in. Just have to pack the hair brushes and toothbrushes in the a.m. and then WE’RE OFF – off to the beach, off to sand between our toes, off to lobster and frozen pudding ice cream, off to sitting on the front porch,, wrapped in a blanket, listening to the waves swoosh onto the shore.
We are just hoping that there is a better wi-fi connection at the beach than there was last year.
Good night all – oh and Welcome Karen! This is a great community you just tapped into.

Hi Macy – still keeping paws crossed for you for rain, and now maybe for that admin job you mentioned.
12:05 am on September 13th, 2011
thanks royals, but I have it on (good?) authority that it is never going to rain again. The fire near Austin has now claimed over 1000 homes. Pestilence, fires, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes and a troupe of rogue monkeys near G and BB. Somebody signal when it is safe to come out of the bunker.

We are so envious of the Beach Trip. What is the water like there? On the Gulf coast in TX it is brown and unappealing. We got to see the Atlantic two years ago and we felt like we were in a tropical paradise, the water was so clear.

AJ is putting up the yard lights and lights in the dog barn. I walked down to say hello and tell him dinner was ready. There was a lot of swearing and almost swearing taking place. I decided that I would come back and stoke the fire and wait for the best man or wiring to win.

Macy – we thought we were going to bed, but there was a couple of last details that Mama thought of, so she is running around getting those things packed. The water at this beach is lovely. Its not the clear blue of the tropical waters, but the waves dance and sparkle, there is lots of white sand to walk, and the water at this time of year is actually warmer than many times in the summer, due to some kind of climate/current/tide type of formula. We have NO intention of going swimming, but wading is going to happen – hopefully with lots of pretty shells to be found, and interesting finds on the beach.
Wonder if the Marauding Goats could round up those monkeys?

This time we are going to bed! Good night all!

T&G: The best that could happen is that TMG could round up the wild monkeys, or they could combine forces and no Plunderer would ever get mail. Have fun at the beach!
