ARC

Admin calls Spence.

“Still in NYC?

“Yup.”

“Any idea when you’ll be able to lay your hands on an advance reader copy of The Dog Who Knew Too Much?”

“I’ll try to find out today.”

“Tonight’s the Simon and Schuster bloggers party?”

“Yup.”

“Dress appropriately.”

    Good morning everyone.

Have a great time in the Big Apple, Spence! Don’t wear that red checked shirt.

I wonder if Spence is going to wear a pair of Bernie’s Hawiian pants?

Hmm, what is the appropriate wear to a bloggers party? Don’t bloggers stay in their pj-s and blog out of basements?

Thanks Kirby T: I have to say that your boy is completely blessed to get out of THAT relationship! You have to wonder why No One said anything to him. Some of those people in the wedding must have known what was going on! (Besides the bride)

And for all of us critters here on Chet’s blog . . . Zoë went over to the Creamery and there was a TRUCK FULL (well, sort of) of sled dog puppies! She told the owner they were very cute.

    Good Morning by the Way!

    Auction pictures . . .

Rebecca and I are working out how big (size and resolution) her email can take and then get put on her blog.

So, if I’m right, send me the photos for the auction. I will “pop” them, size them, and return them to the person who sent them to me. Then that person will write the blurb (Riö’s working on that part) and send an email to Rebecca with the blurb and photo.

IMHO, if you have more than one item send an email per item. But this is something Rebecca needs to think about. Not sure about her email account and filling it up.

Well, looks like we will have extra time to read the next couple of days, so will be finishing up The Gingerbread Murders and starting Unbroken. Reason for the extra time?

Barb decided to call Dish Network this morning to find out if she could 1. get that Oldies Sirus channel, since there are about 60 Sirus choices on her tv; and 2. to find out why she isn’t getting Channel 32, Fox. (No we don’t watch Fox News).

Now, bottom line, after 1 hour on the phone, she no longer has her beloved Chicago news channels, and furthermore HAS NO LOCAL CHANNELS! Support says they had her Chicago suburb address listed and it is illegal for her to be getting Chicago channels out here (some FCC bullshit). Sooo, they tried to switch over to the Rockford channels, but instead obliterated Fox, ABC, NBC, and CBS. They are sending out a tech. person on Saturday free of charge (duh!) and giving us a $10. per month discount for a year. Not sure it makes up for it. We love our Chicago News people, and they are gone, never to return, until we move back to the burbs. Great start to our day!

    Good Morning everybody!
And a glorious morning it is with the sun shining large in the sky. Just perfect for a bike ride and some dog watching around the lake.
I’ve never seen a little Husky puppy except in pictures. They are sooooo cute and would be hard to resist.

Party!…I wonder what they do at a Blogger Party?…snort!…Do you think they stand around and talk about their blogs?….sniff!… I wonder if Spencer will brag about Chet’s blog. Do you think he will mention the Quilt or the Iditarod?….heh! …I’m sure he will take credit for all of it, even though it’s really Chet’s blog….huffle!

Dawson: Luckily, no sled dog puppy arrived home with Zoë!

Okay, my health care got figured out. Had to bring in my State Senator’s office and the aide was getting the run around, and I sort of EXPLAINED that the whole thing was the health care people ADDED wrong. So HC finally listened to the aide.

So YEA that got figured out. THEN this morning Zoë went to get the Subaru inspected and the clutch is just gone. Don’t know where we left it but it’s gone!

So Zoë took the van in to do the shopping and the front left tire has gone bad AGAIN!

She’s getting that fixed, and tomorrow we’re going to rent a car until the Subaru can get fixed.

    The Weather is great!

Melanie, Looks like you have your problems this morning too. Maybe I shouldn’t bitch so much about t.v. I do feel like I have lost my connection to the world when I can’t tune in the news, though.

Hey, Mango and Redbone, you need to get avatars. I am not so sure Redbone is a real character. We really don’t have much info on him, do we? Now I sound like Rio!

Good morning everyone – All of us here want Spence and Admin to know that the proper dress for blogging is 1.) a Fur Coat and 2.) Diamond jewelry
Bows, toenail polish and hats are optional
All of us here are ALWAYS properly dressed when we are on the blog! (well, ok, so sometimes Basil takes off his diamond collar and goes au natural, but that was a mental image you could have done without)

A sad day for baseball here. Buster Posey got a brutal hit and might be out for the rest of the year. I feel so sorry for him. Ross got hit also. I cringe when I watch the video of the hit on Posey. The Giants have so many out for injuries already, I don’t think they will do well this year. At least we have last year.
Rio: One of your players (De Rosa?) is out too. Why all the injuries lately?

Sleeping in this morning with a slow start to the day.
Melanie: Car problems are so frustrating! It seems like they just pop out of nowhere. Can’t believe (well yes we can) you had to call in outside help with the healthcare. They sure don’t make it easy, do they. BTW how is Dan doing?
Barb: We started the Laura Hildebrand book last night. As before, she has grabbed our attention from the very beginning. Love her style of writing! That is very discouraging news about dishnetwork. Did they discover their error in your programming first, or did your inquiry alert them to your location? We had problems with our satellite programing years ago and were able to get some kind of “grandfather” exemption because of our location out in the boonies and supposedly couldn’t get local channels. This meant we had the option of getting any East Coast channels we wanted, which was great. We were able to watch our favorite programs 3 hours ahead of everyone else.
Rio: Most of us here on the blog would love going on that “100 mile walk” every day, but I suppose your little short pug legs aren’t up to it. Hang in there – you’ll get used to it. Exercise is good to clear the mind.
Liz: If we can’t use Siber-H’s special recipe in the cookbook…I consider it a MUST that he is represented in some way. SH, don’t you have a special grilling recipe for the HNs? Doesn’t have to be complicated.
About the pdf. Wolfie: Didn’t you say there was some way to publish at minimal cost? Don’t mind me – just pondering.
    Dawson: Enjoy your bike ride.
    Everyone have a great day!

Bear, The Dish lady tricked Barb. She said “Oh I see your location is different than your billing address”. Barb said, “Oh, that’s wrong, we have been at the billing address for 5 years”. That’s when she got us, and said, Oh, this is against FCC regulations, you are not in that viewing area and can’t be getting those channels”. I wonder if the “grandfather clause” would work.
We will be starting Unbroken tomorrow or this weekend.

Some housekeeping items I wanted to address yesterday, but by the time I had to post everyone had signed off for the night:

*In the words of Charlie Brown, “ARGH!!!” There are so many wonderful items being put up for auction: quilted items, projects with bling, toffee, art work and much more, and now an ARC from Spence! It’s difficult to remember why we’re holding an auction in the first place when I get tempted to bid on all the wonderful items…thank you Spence, thank you to you all!

*I think all the Plunderers who have sponsored the kennel have received their surprise. I’m trying to track what has been sent to who so if you should have received a surprise and haven’t please let me know. Rose—your surprise is on the way!

*Someone asked yesterday if we will ever know the identity of the generous anonymous Plunderer—even though we know, it won’t be spoken by my lips or typed by my fingers. AJ and I have taken to calling said Plundered GHP, Golden Harness Plunderer for long. Why GHP? The Golden Harness is awarded to a dog each year in the Iditarod—it is a great honor that is given to a special dog that leads his or her musher to the finish line in Nome and in this case, this particular Plunderer has led us to the starting line. We’ve thanked GHP publically and privately, but GHP (you know who you are) there is a kennel tour waiting for you if you ever make it to our neck of the woods—it’s the least we can do.

*What’s this? Another anonymous Plunderer is on the loose? Yup—has been for a while, but authorities have kept it under wraps. Just in time for our transmission to go south, Twig was secretly and quietly sponsored by a Plunderer requesting to remain anonymous. Like GHP, we’ve also thanked this Plunderer privately, but not publically. Why the delay?—because I haven’t finished putting together the public thank you for the Plunderer. I’ve been putting together a very short story about Twig to post on the blog for this anonymous Plunderer. I bring it up now because I don’t want him/her to think it isn’t appreciated with all the GHP hub-bub. Twigs Friend: I OWE YOU one Twiglette of a story.

*Kirby: Garrett’s flip and flop is made even attractive by his white fur and blue eyes. What’s more is he is the son of Whitey-Lance!—must be an Iditarod champ in the making.

    Headed to work…

Barb, I’m sorry about the Dish tv mess up. We are news junkies here, also. We once had a similar problem with Direct tv and their local channels.

Bear, thank you for thinking of me, but I don’t really have to be in the cookbook. Hebrew National hot dogs taste the very best when they are put on a green stick and cooked over a campfire in the Jemez Mountains. You’d be surprised how many hot dogs are dropped by the humans.

  31. Wookie of Chevy Chase

Stover– I will need to track the photo down but will get it posted to Dishlickers shortly.

Barb and Maggie. I can sympathize about your news situation. According to my dad, you have gotten caught up in bigger picture FCC-type issues relating to localism and trying to protect local broadcasters from the importation of so-called distant signals, which may could adversely affect their ability to attract adversiting revenues. It sounded real complicate to me too, but he said at the end of the day that sometimes in trying to serve the public interest the FCC manages to lose sight of what the public is interested in.

    Barb
I few years ago, I was a Dish customer and I wanted to have the DVR added. I called to get an estimate, and they quoted me something like $400. So I called Direct TV, and they told me that they would do it for free. I called Dish back, told them that I would like to remain a customer but couldn’t see paying an unnecessary $400, and could they give me a better rate? Nope.
So, I cancelled Dish, went to Direct TV. A few months later, Dish called me and asked me why I switched, and THEN they offered me free installation. Too late, I said.

So, you may want to see what channels and rates Direct TV can offer you. Plus Direct TV will offer you (and a referred friend), $100 for switching. There is something to be said for competition!

Barb&Maggie: Wolfie’s right. You have other options here. Another suggestion would be to call back and see if you can get another representative who is more accommodating. Then again that would probably entail another 1 plus hour phone call! So frustrating!

We are going to take the Direct TV idea into consideration. Saturday they are sending out a tech to try to fix things, because we are no longer getting any local channels. Yes,Barb, you should still get all the news channels you get now, except for the local ones. You can use the internet to keep up on the local news…watch their videos and everything. I don’t think that is as easy as just watching a 30 minute local news program, but it is better than not getting any at all.
I think some of our local channels put their entire newscast on their websites.

BSD. You are right; it doesn’t get any better than that. Of course, the campfire was in Rio’s back yard, since he isn’t allowed to leave his back yard. Still a great time though. Wookie

Okay, so let’s see if I’ve got this straight:

Whitey-Lance, Twig and Orion are fully sponsored, and Charlie is partially sponsored. Mom said that I can help sponsor Charlie, but first I talked her into buying me a Snowhook calendar! Wow, we Plunderers are the best, aren’t we???!!!!!

I cannot wait until next March, when we get to actually be a part of the Iditarod! Mom says that we can buy the fancy gps thing so that we won’t miss anything. As Rio would say, Whooo Hoooo!!!

Hey, y’all! Mom and Dad are still gone — my boy just sent them a picture of me moping and wishing them a happy anniversary. So now I’m not only moping that they’re gone, I’m also moping because my girl just let us know that she’s moving back home until she can find a teaching job. So now those two girl dogs will be here even longer!!!

Wolfie, be prepared to lose some sleep if you subscribe to the GPS tracker. It is addictive.

Rio: Have you seen the extra-large marshmallows that are designed for toasting? Mom says she wants to build a fire just to test them!

Bee: I’d be honored to put my sestina on the dishlickers site, but I’ll have to wait until Mom gets home — she filed it away, and I don’t know where anything is in her office. (To tell the truth, I’m not sure she knows where anything is, either!)

Rebecca: That Garrett sounds like he has quite a lot going for him — Whitey-Lance for a father PLUS flip-flop ears. What a guy!!!

Sorry, Rio. The picture is on my boy’s telephone. I’ll have to see if I can figure out how to get the picture from the phone to the computer.

Marshmellows!…They just get all tangled up in my teeth and whiskers…grunt! …I like the hotdogs pure and simple with a little mustard on them…slurp!…Now I am very hungry again…grunt!…This is the problem when I eat so soon. I beg her mother for food and she feeds me earlier than my friend used to …sniff!…Now I am paying for it later….grumble!

    Kirby!…Too bad about the picture…grump!

Wookie: But, remember when Rio was allowed to go on the London Trip? Oh, yes. I see what you mean…

Rio: We all know the recipe is from you.

Hey, Kirby: Sorry about that last bit of news. Those 2 dogs are kinda moving in on your territory, sounds like.

Wolfie: You are going to love, love, love the Snowhook calendar! Rebecca and AJ did an excellent job of putting it together.

BTW: Has anyone else read Rebecca’s latest dog story on the Snowhook blog? But, be sure to have a box of tissues handy before you start.

Rio, SiberH and Wookie: Perhaps you could plan a winter camping trip, maybe on the Iditarod trail, oh, let’s say, next March? Except I caution against playing the harmonica in sub-zero temperatures.

Rio: I caught up on blog updates the other night going back to this past race season even before Iditarod.

Volfie: Best—that’s one way to describe the Plunderers. I also like amazing, incredible and awesome.

well, this just stinks. We are so busy getting ready for the art show this weekend that we haven’t had a minute to be online since this morning.
    Work, work, work, work, work.

Remember how Mama was going to make lasaga? Well, she stayed up way late last night to make the sauce and then put the whole thing together. She left it in the fridge with instructions all written out for her father to heat it up. Her oven defaults to 350 when you turn it on, so she left directions to turn the oven on, put the lasagna on a cookie sheet and put it in the oven at 4:30 – it takes two hours to cook.
Mama got home right before six. Lasagne smelled good, but just maybe a little scorched.
    hmmmm
Her father put followed the directions to put it in the oven – only he set the oven to 430 degrees….
Did you know that lasagna noodles can actually carmelize if you cook them too hot??

    Oh well.

Now for some good news – Mama got home so late cuz she went to get her pottery from Andrew Quient (the famous potter she put the link for the other day)
Her pottery is fired beautifully, its not broken and ANDREW QUIENT ASKED HER IF SHE WOULD LIKE TO BE A STUDENT AT HIS STUDIO.
    As Rio would say…whoooohhhoooo!!
(well of course she said yes – she’s going to start later in June)
We are probably talking to ourselves tonight, but we had to tell someone!
