Aquifers and Us
We crossed the Arroyo Seco Bridge, not even a trickle of water underneath. “How many aquifers have we got, big guy? One and one alone.” And soon we were in Pottsdale, one of the nicest parts of the Valley, with big houses, fancy stores, and lots of golf courses. “So goddamn green,” Bernie said. “Green comes from blue, and we’re running out of blue. How simple can it be?”
Green comes from blue? That’s what Bernie called simple? Just another example of his amazing brainpower.

Morning, everyone! OH, WE are with y’all in spirit, thoughts and pawrayers today. Abby over the bridge cantering freely is a beautiful picture but misty for us here.
“Green comes from blue”, wowser, that Bernie isn’t only smart, he’s a philosopher.
Have a philosophical Phriday 🙂

Oh, and A.J., thanks for your comments last evening/this morning about our trails together. Dog bless us, everyone.
9:25 am on July 11th, 2014
Good morning HOH and everyone.
We thought A.J.’s comparison was excellent. And so true.
Barb is off soon to meet up with Shannon for her birthday lunch. She was so impressed with Barb’s car after the detailing that she requested that for her birthday. So we are doing that today too.
Beautiful day here, storms coming this weekend. Boo.
We expressed our sadness over Howler’s loss at the end of yesterday’s posts.

AJ, thank you.

Good morning all.

Greetings!
O’Howlers: I am very sad upon reading the news about Abby. She will now run free as she did in her younger days, mane and tai flying in the wind.
Thank you, A.J.for your encouraging words. I still believe you have a book in you. You write with such feeling and insight. (whispering) don’t forget you have friends in NY who proofread and edit. : )
Sammie: Please take the road to good health. I can’t bear to know you have a heart murmur.
Yesterday I found out My psych is giving up her private practice. sniff
Change is sometimes a very hard thing for me.
I don’t believe I am giving away any spoilers here. Question to all four and two-leggeds on this here blog~ Bacon; crispy or chewy. Wosengrizz love ours chewy!!
9:39 am on July 11th, 2014
Bear, Isn’t that exciting? We here have been waiting for the e-book ever since we got our nook 4 years ago. It is one of my favorite books ever! And the movie! What more can I say about a perfect film?!
9:49 am on July 11th, 2014
Wose, mom likes her bacon turkey. WE aren’t picky, as long as it’s bacon 🙂
9:49 am on July 11th, 2014
And another thing…I just found out that one, or maybe it is two, of my lower front teeth is or are infected. It didn’t hurt, said the dentist, because they are draining and just go down into my digestive system. Isn’t that a lovely thought? Two of them will come out today,,and then in a month I will get some more lower teeth.
So, for the celebration, I will probably drool, sip liquids and look really weird. Golden age my foot.
9:50 am on July 11th, 2014
Bear: Thank you. I’ll have to check it out on Amazon. Scout is one of my favorite characters.
Rose: I like the movie version as well.
9:58 am on July 11th, 2014
Wose: Yes! And one of Our Favorite Actors…Gregory Peck.
Love the Book but must say…our Preference is the 50 Year Anniversary Edition.
Sorry about your doctor giving up her private practice. These changes are never easy.
About the Bacon…Crispy is My Choice. In Fact…You just reminded me…It’s Breakfast Time!
MollyPop’s Mom: Paws crossed Sammy will agree to a Healthy Doggy Diet. We here on the Blog will do our best to encourage her.
Zoe: Yep. And I love how you expressed it once before…this age isn’t Golden it’s Puce. Just read too that only classy females get that color right.
10:03 am on July 11th, 2014
Zoe, Heh! I lost most of my teeth before I was in my twenties, and helped put my dentist’s daughters through college. That’s a lot of teeth!
10:08 am on July 11th, 2014
Zoe, drooling and sipping are acceptable, just don’t gum the guests 🙂

Sounds wonderful, Masquers!
I have a small and meek question. Why isn’t Bernie shown on the cover of TOV?
10:41 am on July 11th, 2014
Bear, I love that picture!! Whenever I went on vacation at work, I taped that picture to my computer screen.
10:43 am on July 11th, 2014
Howlers – Mama cried upon reading your post this morning. Seems she was dreaming of riding her beloved horse last night and there was another horse running alongside. (((Sniff)))
AJ – thanks for your post. Lots to ponder.
Staff – the Storyteller says he feels your stapled pain. And Gramp is SO relieved that your surgery didn’t mimic his. Glad you are home and able to laugh.
Zoe – oh my my my. Puce indeed.

Thinking of ML this morning. Sending Healing Prayers to her Mom.
11:04 am on July 11th, 2014
Howlers, so sorry to hear about your loss. Never easy.
11:53 am on July 11th, 2014
That Bernie. Always the smartest guy in the room.
We love the cover of TOV, especially the Wagon Wheel. Heh!
Good morning. New beginnings here. We are getting used to new beginnings, which in itself is getting old. Huh. Let’s get Bernie’s take on that!
11:59 am on July 11th, 2014
And we too are thinking on ML. Hope all goes well for her mom. Dear Dog, that girl has been put thru the ringer this year. She deserves a break. Oh yes she does.
12:10 pm on July 11th, 2014
OH, WE agree with y’all about ML deserving a break. She has had more drama in her life than “Peyton Place”. Time fro a change, maybe “Looney Tunes” for her or even “Laugh In” reruns. All kidding aside, You know you are in our pawrayers.
12:16 pm on July 11th, 2014
Thanks for the thoughts AJ. It seems easier, somehow, to look at life as our own personal Iditarod. And the plunderers are our team. Yay TEAM! I feel like I am on a hill right now. I wonder if ML feels like she is doing a freefall down the steps? Maybe Rose feels like the Dalzell Gorge right now.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjyItL68iqU
Hang on Rose! Take it easy now…
12:16 pm on July 11th, 2014
Chet’s post this morning can also be said about the greater Albuquerque area.
Fellow Sibers and family, We are sorry you lost Abby but very thankful you gave her a good home.
AJ, Thank you for your post. We always enjoy reading what you write.
12:22 pm on July 11th, 2014
Wose, Crispy.
We hate that you will be having to change doctors now. That is always hard but sometimes it can work out really well.
Zoe, Mom has had the same thing happen to her teeth and has always been thankful they never hurt. In a few days, you will fell a whole lot better when the infection has cleared your body.
12:23 pm on July 11th, 2014
Hounds: Peyton Place? Long Time Ago…VERY Scandalous at the time.
12:34 pm on July 11th, 2014
Staff: On a hill…is that good?
Rose: eeek!
We here agree…AJ’s simile to the Iditarod somehow makes it seem more bearable somehow.
12:46 pm on July 11th, 2014
Staff: Yark! Noticing the Aliy Cam was from 2012 NOT this last year. A 2014 Video would be showing a barren trail with Rocks & Dirt…little to no snow.
Through all the Trials & Tribulations we know there is Nome at the end of the trail, and the Pleasure of our Fellow Travelers along the way.
1:15 pm on July 11th, 2014
WE think that Aily Cam pix were really scary, even with snow. If we ate lunch, we’d have lost it 🙁
A.J. and the other mushers are brave beyond beliefe.

BSD – and there’s no place like Nome

AJ!…sob!sob!sob!…His thoughts brought tears to my pug-eyes. What a great analogy about our team of Plunderers..sniffle!…And dibs on riding in the sled…heh!

Tupper&Gilly: How Right You Are!
Thought of Youse yesterday afternoon…Our Beautiful White Butterfly (my how he has grown in these past 5 years!), a Hummingbird and several Honeybees partaking of the sweet Nectar of the Gods at the Lavender bed.
What a nice picture it would have made! As it is, it’s only a Picture filed away Under Wonderful in our Memory.
2:59 pm on July 11th, 2014
Riö: Rider on the sled? I don’t know about that. But then this kat is not nearly as (foolhardy) brave as you are.
I much purrfer to read AJ’s thrilling narratives after the fact.
3:06 pm on July 11th, 2014
Maskers!…Riding in the Sled beats pulling the sled up and down those mountains any day…snort!
3:44 pm on July 11th, 2014
Rio: you should ask MPM about riding in the sled. Heh.
4:34 pm on July 11th, 2014
I will gladly let you ride the sled when it is my turn Rio. Especially right now.
Masquers, about the hill, it is just a little tough right now. It gets better every day. Soon I will be at the top and hopefully there will be a nice smooth snow filled ride down the other side. WhooOOOOooooOOoo
4:37 pm on July 11th, 2014
Staff: Cool runnings to you. Sending kat pawyers for a comfortable ride.
4:40 pm on July 11th, 2014
“Green comes from blue?” The fricking frackers are in our neighborhood and they are using our blue to make greenbacks. But that’s a story for another time.
O’Howlers: Peace to Abby. I’m glad Abby and you guys found each other and had lovin’ good times together. I bet life at the O’Howlers was paradise for Abby.
AJ: Sniff, honk!
4:49 pm on July 11th, 2014
Dawson: You tell those Frink’n Frackers where to Go!
4:54 pm on July 11th, 2014
Awesome, I would like to kick those fricking frackers where the sun don’t shine.
And for all of youse friends, here is a picture of our Abby Gal with me me me. We were very good gal pals, she and I. And yes, she did have a lovely, peaceful, easy end of her life here at Howling Arabians these past 8 years, though she was only half-Arab (the half you couldn’t see! Heh heh!)

4:55 pm on July 11th, 2014
Fracked!…Dawson, my town is over-run with freakin’ frackers…grunt!…We’ve had two earthquakes within one month. Coincidence? You tell me….sniff!sniff!
4:58 pm on July 11th, 2014
Rio, no coincidence, believe you me. It is amazing that this is permitted when none of us We the People want it.
And Rio, Spencer is coming to Denver, you lucky pug you!!!

Hounds! What Wonderful Memories.
6:09 pm on July 11th, 2014
Take this…
6:11 pm on July 11th, 2014
Attorney Meash, That is a wonderful photo of you and Abby. You are both so beautiful. sniff
And that is a beautiful photo of the lovely Nana in front of that really kool looking library.
6:11 pm on July 11th, 2014
Attorney Meashka: Whose water is it anyways! Every one wants to be the first fricking fracker to be able to ship all this gas to China, never mind our water. The government subsidizes the frackers and …wait!…(climbing off the soap box). Don’t get me started. Let me just say to our governments, there are many many opportunities to be had in the renewable and solar energy fields and it would be nice to be part of the solution instead of part of the problem.
I love the picture of Abby and you!
6:11 pm on July 11th, 2014
Take this…

6:13 pm on July 11th, 2014
Zoe, I still cannot figure out how you hold the “babies”. They drag me across the shore and floor.
6:20 pm on July 11th, 2014
Zoe, beautiful picture – makes me cry.
6:25 pm on July 11th, 2014
We visited Fat-Sam-I-am and were feeling sorry for her. She had only one half cup of kibble for breakfast and was going to have another half cup at 4 PM for dinner. She seemed so hungry constantly sniffing the treat drawer. But ha ha. When she got her 4 PM dinner she sniffed it and walked away. She wasn’t wanting kibble, she was wanting all that other stuff that she got all the time.

6:27 pm on July 11th, 2014
Love the library photo. What a quaint inviting looking place. The lady standing in front of it looks pretty good too.
You are right about Abby, Howlers. She was a good looking old mare, but not Araby looking at all.
6:50 pm on July 11th, 2014
I love that picture of Zoe!

BearSpiritDog: Love the local library and the path leading to it.
Princess Sammie: You have been found out!
Zoe: I had to go around for awhile with several teeth missing. They were in Vancouver and I was here. I did not smile at all for several days but then I said the heck with it. The looks I got!
Some of you old timers will remember the “teeth lady”. I can’t remember her name but she itemized each time Chet spoke about teeth in his books and Chet posted it. Yawn! I’m feeling sleepy.
7:34 pm on July 11th, 2014
Oh Ho, from the annals of history! Leave it to Dawson!
Daddy Dawg on the road to Chi-town to get the oldest g-son (mom’s favorite but don’t tell anyone). He should be here on Monday and OH!, what fun we will have!
7:39 pm on July 11th, 2014
Love that foto of Zoe in her Iditarod bib with Mac & Mattie.
Look at the adoring look she is getting from Mac.
Rose: That was a very loving thing you did. sniff.
7:40 pm on July 11th, 2014
Poor Princess Sammie! Dieting is no fun and it isn’t her fault that she packed on a few pounds. Mom likes all of us with a few extra pounds so we get to eat like piggies.
7:45 pm on July 11th, 2014
Mom wants to know how her butt won’t fit in her pants but her rings slide off her fingers. NO FAIR!
7:50 pm on July 11th, 2014
Princess Sammy: What do YOU have to say about all this Die-t Business? Let’s hear YOUR Side of the Story.
7:55 pm on July 11th, 2014
Poor Sammie. Just so you know, we get a half cup of kibble twice a day too – and we are way bigger than you.
We get snacks of green beans and raw carrots. We also love apples, melon and parsnips, but we don’t get them as often.
Hey, we have a question for discussion. Why does “the exception prove the rule”? Doesn’t the exception mean the rule is wrong?
7:58 pm on July 11th, 2014
Barb, you and the group met Sammy in March. This is only four months later and she has ballooned up, for a small dog.
8:03 pm on July 11th, 2014
MPM, She was not underweight back in March.
Was Lois the tooth lady’s name?
8:05 pm on July 11th, 2014
T&G, the exception, no parking on Sunday, shows the rule to be that parking is allowed the other days.
8:07 pm on July 11th, 2014
T&G: My guess is..the exception to the rule proves that the rule exists.
8:12 pm on July 11th, 2014
MPM -we have been fascinated with bats lately, watching them in the back yard every night. In a discussion today, someone mentioned that bats are the only flying mammal and the comment was made about the exception proving the rule of mammals. As do platypuses as the only egg laying mammal.
It just made us stop and think about the phrase.
8:17 pm on July 11th, 2014
Save Sam! Bear is very concerned about Sammie and her weight gain. He doesn’t want one of his favorite little blog-mates to have health issues because of overeating.
Let us hope the little post-it notes on the cupboard & fridge will do the trick.
How about walking. Is the hawk still a problem?
8:31 pm on July 11th, 2014
Wose: It is indeed the Weekend of the June Super Moon! All dawgs worth their Howl have been rehearsing for the Big Howl-Fest tomorrow night.

Day!…My friend has had a day. And she doesn’t want to talk about it…sniffle!…I must sit on her legs till they go numb…grunt!…She wonders why she has to pay for everyone else’s mistakes all that time – that’s all I’ve heard her mumble so far…wheeze!
8:52 pm on July 11th, 2014
Late to the Blog —
Will have to go back and read AJ’s post.
My thoughts are with Abby. Hope you and Liz-Beth become best buddies.
Beautiful photo, Zoe. Golden years, indeed. Grump.
Hang tough, ML.
Hi to everyone else.
9:00 pm on July 11th, 2014
Stover!…This question is for you if you watch Murder in the First…snort!…Is that Blunt guy the young actor from the Harry Potter movies?…sniff!…If it is him, interesting choice of roles after a big movie block-buster career…heh!heh!
Wheeze!…Someone says she needs to walk off her frustration and so-forth….sniff!…This is never a good thing for me and Beau…gah!

Because of the kindness you showed her, she arrived on this side of the Bridge with more happy memories than not. Dawson, the pup not the person is happy to meet the second biggest dog she has ever seen. She and Liz-Beth have been paling around with Abby along with the Howlers that have gone on before.

I love you too, Rio.

Rio: I’ve seen a few episodes of Murder in the First. (I have to catch up on it.) Yes, that actor is Tom Felton who plays Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies.
10:14 pm on July 11th, 2014
Slurp!…How does CHobbit get fotoz of me when my friend cannot?…snort!
Twins!…We are going to turn to the Rockies game in just a few minutes…grunt!…There is some show she wants to finish with that Harry Potter actor before we can go watch the worst team in baseball play…wuffle!
10:14 pm on July 11th, 2014
Stover!….I knew it!…snort!
10:26 pm on July 11th, 2014
Draco Malfoy is a bully in the HP movies. From what I’ve seen of the Blunt character, he seems to be the victim. Hope it’s On Demand.
By the way, ABCFamily is showing all eight HP movies this weekend beginning with Chamber of Secrets which is on now.
10:29 pm on July 11th, 2014
Rio, the Rockies are playing some seriously good ball tonight.
10:35 pm on July 11th, 2014
Stover!….No spoilers! I just started watching this series and am now through episode 3 – but I do think all the evidence is strangley piled against him…sniff!…It smells fishy….ugh!…Even though, as usual, I do not like his character…heh!
10:36 pm on July 11th, 2014
Lurker!…I am now watching the game in the 8th inning…heh!…I am quite surprised and happy with my team right now…chuffle!…Maybe it is ME!ME!ME! that is jinxing them?…gah! …If they lose this game, I will have my answer…yeeep!
10:38 pm on July 11th, 2014
Jinx’s!…Here all this time I thought it was SiberH jinxing my team….wheeze!
10:41 pm on July 11th, 2014
Innings!…Now I am losing my pug-sight…gah!…It is the 7th inning not the 8th inning. This makes a huge difference, let me tell youse…wheeze!…There is plenty of time for the Rockies to choke and gag and spit this game right down the crapper…weep!weep!…But we will try and have faith they will hold on to the lead…gurgle!
11:05 pm on July 11th, 2014
I haven’t read the entire day yet, so please forgive any errors.

First, I stole this from Nana and believe it with all my heart.
Mom’s surgery went well. Now we wait. Again. Shades of Melanie. Over a month since diagnosis and no treatment. Then home and one aggravation after another, til I went off on my niece, who lives with mother and can’t be bothered to come out of her room to sit with her grandmother while I go for prescriptions. And food which her brother, who also lives with mother, could not be bothered to take his grandmother to get before running off to spend the weekend with his boyfriend. Does NO ONE get that grandmother a) doesn’t drive b) has cancer c) has had two surgeries this month d)is not a spring chicken e)…… somebody stop me pleeeease.

I don’t know if anyone is still up, but there is a beautiful full moon tonight!

Thanks for the heads up Wolfie. That moon is humongous!
Has anyone else read the Mrs. Pollifax books? Not Rio’s style I am sure. I have always liked Dorothy Gilman’s characters. They are so full of love and caring for others. Anyway those books are taking me through this painful time. I am on the 4th one right now. I read the 5th one 4th so am a little out of order. No matters, they are all fun.
