Good morning, y’all! Mom was sick this weekend so she didn’t feel like turning the computer on for me. Dagnabbit! And just to add to my misery, now she and Dad are going away for a few days, so I have to depend on my boy to remember to turn the computer on for me. We’ll just have to see if that happens! By the way, they’re not heading to any Apple, Big or otherwise, so they won’t be seeing Spence.

First off, a big congrats to Liz for her success in making the toffee!
Thanks to the Howlers we know exactly where Spence will be today. But, as usual, haven’t a clue what he is talking about. B & Rio think it has something to do with Enid and proper writing techniques. I sure don’t know and am more interested in that B.C. cartoon. It was a great start to the day!
Barb: Your rhubarb pie sounds yummy! Gram made the best rhubarb pie too. Oops, I’m drooling on the paper, sorry about that!
Taking a look again at that picture from yesterday, it’s beginning to look like a real safari. Zoe looks absolutely dwarfed by the Newf pack. Thank Dog they are Gentle Giants.

We saw yesterday’s picture of Zoe and The Pack this morning..too late to post on yesterday’s blog and too early for today’s. So we forgot when today’s became available. Melanie…we LOVE LOVE LOVE that picture! If we didn’t know any better, we’d swear those were bears. Should seem intimidating, but we love Neufs and know they are not intimidating at all (unless you are in water the they think they must rescue you from).

On a more serious note – Has anyone been following the tornado story in Joplin, MO? Estimating 30% of the city wiped out. Six miles long and almost a mile wide! They say it was so loud many people probably didn’t hear the sirens.

I love that picture of Zoë and her Pack! I also took some pretty funny ones of Rose.
Friend of ours (they have one of our puppies named Merlin) lives 50 miles away from Joplin, MO. They spent the evening in their “safe room”. She says that the storm headed their way but passed over them instead of coming down.
I asked her what a “safe room” was. It’s a Missouri Storm Shelter. Metal, grounded and bolted down. It’s in the house. The door opens in, incase of debris. Built in vents and such.
During the storm they had the two two legged, their three Newfs, chairs, dog leashes, gallons of water and a crank operated emergency radio.
Wow. Here’s a picture of one of them. You really have to be a close knit Pack to get inside!
Thank Dog they were safe.

We have not been following that news..but saw the Pres and FLOTUS put out condolences to the folks in Joplin, MO. There seems to be so many horrendous storms and other “natural” events this year. We dread looking at the news pages these days.
Cannot imagine spending the evening in what looks like a fridge or freezer. Let alone spending it there with 2 neufs. wow.

We think that one of the original Chet the Dog bloggers needs to put together a document telling who everyone is, how (if) they are connected to someone else, what section of the country they live in, etc. Its hard to get everyone straight. It would be something like a family tree diagram, or book synopsis or something.

O.Howlers! That footage of the storm was chilling! Strange how tornadoes will hit one side of the street and not the other. One house, but not the neighboring one. Fires behave in this manner also. Re the Plunderers History: GusBooBear made a map of where everyone lives and is supposed to be updating it (GBB: By the way where are you?) and a while back Rio sent s synopsis to Rebecca. Don’t mind the grumpy pug – he jumped down our throats too when we suggested something similar. Our story does need telling and story tellers do dwell among us.

We have the map updated but to time keeps getting away from us. Mom posted 2 recipes for the cookbook under draft section of dighlickers. Hope Barb saw them. No pictures yet though. She needs to send her pictures of the auction jacket to Melanie(?) for picture enhancement and who is she supposed to send the pictures of us to for the cookbook?

MOLLYPOP: Lives in ski country in New York. Her sister is the mother of…..SAM who lives in Boston.
SAM: aka Princess. She is going to be in the film version of THAT.

Bear, Thanks for asking. Husky rescue adopted out 2 or 3, but the people have to fill out an application and have a home check first. That is about the normal amout for us to adopt out at those adoption events. Husky Rescue is very particular about the homes the dogs go to. All total, 407 dogs and cats found new homes, which is pretty good, but last year it was 507. New Mexico has a pet over-population problem.

We are going to go catch the latest news on Missouri (Mazura). Barb was born in Springfield, which is about an hour from Joplin. Still has relatives in Springfield, and some cousins in Joplin, but they are all safe.

Barb’s cousin was in Kansas City on business, but his wife and kids were at home in Joplin. They were about 2 miles away from the heavy damage. All we have heard so far is that they are ok.

We just got back from the Vet. Mom totally tricked us with that little trip. I was actually my usual sociable, loveable self. T.C. was her normal evil spooky self. Mom seems much relieve that we are back home.
Looks like a big thunder storm may be coming, so we are very happy to be in back home too.

Dan is on the correct anti-biotic. He gets very confused when he has an infection. It’s really how we tell when there is a problem. So far we’re hitting 3 for 3 and the doc, at first, didn’t think we could tell.
Hmmm. She doesn’t live with him.
Unfortunately, he’s been having infection after infection. Tomorrow he sees the Infectious Disease doc.
His lungs are clear! So that is a good thing. . .
Tomorrow is also the day the bulldozer comes. Since it’s raining right now, I’m hoping the bulldozer just doesn’t sink into the lawn never to be seen again.

I do think that I deserve a separate entry from my mom. Agent 00Wookie (aka Wookie of Chevy Chase), formerly of her Majesty’s Secret Service, is now lead agent for reconnaissance missions for Commander Rio. He lives in Chevy Chase, MD, with his dad, mom (Debbie LM) and grandpa, who is the world’s best tummies giver. He drives the Wookiemobile and in his spare time is a certified quilt tester.

Hi guys! I think keeping track of where everyone is from is a great idea. Even though a certain smelly, suddenly very plump pug doesn’t think so. Spencer might especially find it interesting to find out what part of the country or world his fans are from. Especially those special few who are involved enough in his books to post on Chet’s blog and become part of the growing community. Someone might want to email the final document to him actually. I agree with Rio’s friend — not the pug himself! I think it’s great to know where everyone is. Sometimes I get confused about who’s where — especially with Wolfie and Wookie — different sides of the country, but lots of the same letters! I’m thinking that when this is all put together, I may just print it out and keep it handy for future reference. By the way, whoever added to Bee’s description that I live in South Carolina is correct.
Oh, and Bee, you made me blush. Imagine — a real live college professor called my sestina “superb”!

We are two tri-color Pembroke Welsh Corgis. Even though we came from separate rescues in different years, we look like we are related by birth. We love each other and cuddle together all the time. Our Mama likes to play with clay and read and play with clay and cook and play with clay and…well you get the picture.
We live here in Western Massachusetts, with our Dad, and those two Wrotten Kats, Basil and Sage, just down the mountainside from Melanie and the pack. Mama is from New Mexico, and misses it a lot -esecially the green chili. Daddy is from Canada, so this seemed like a pretty fair compromise.

Stover, I talked to Dad on the phone…he says wait until it dries to dig the hole with the bulldozer. He says that the bulldozer could sink into the mud and/or the walls could cave in if it is too wet…even on a shallow swimming pool. There comes a point where the bulldozer can’t bulldoze its way out, and he kept mumbling about walls caving in. It may not be that wet at Melanie’s house.
Dad may be over cautious. They have to be when doing roads and highways. I am sure everything will go fine for the Newfs tomorrow. They need their pool.

Oh, and B&M: Mom has read all the Fluke books, too. She likes them for the most part, but she’s getting a little tired of the “love triangle.” She also thinks the ending of the last book was very, very strange — totally out of character! As for the recipes, she made the pumpkin cookies with white chocolate chips that was in one of the books — she can’t remember which one! — which had everyone at the library trying to get ahold of the book so they could get the recipe! She says they were yummy — but I wouldn’t know because she never gave me any. Snort!!! Grump!!! Etc!!!
