Another Great Pop-Up Quiz Answer
Remember the pop-up quiz? If not, scroll down to the May 8 post. Kirby T. Penworthy won the prize but there were lots of great answers. Here’s one from Gina Bridgeman.
This is the kind of thing that makes baseball great (besides the way it tastes, Chet might say). I mean you don’t see Eli Manning kicking a field goal in the waning seconds of a game, do you? Darnell McDonald and Chris Davis are just the latest baseball players to become the main characters in a non-pitchers pitching duel. And Cobb and Sisler were among the first. In Boston on Sunday, McDonald, in as a pinch runner, and Davis, a designated hitter, became pitching rivals when their bullpens emptied out in what would end up a 17-inning, 9-6 Red Sox loss. Cobb and Sisler, with those great batting averages, apparently faced each other twice, and both of them fared pretty well. At least it would have been tough for the manager to walk out to the mound to take either one out of the game—both were also managers of their teams! Wouldn’t you love to be able to go back in time to see just one of those games?

Good morning, y’all! I really like Gina’s answer alot! (Sorry, Bee. I just can’t help it!!!) I can see where it would have been a hard choice for Spence, because that answer was great. I especially like the part about how baseball tastes. I’m not sure I’ve ever tasted a baseball, but lacrosse balls are pretty good!

Staff, I read the article on the Twins…”Wait until Next year” as so many of us baseball fans say. That keep us us going from season to season.
ROSE, There is a brand new book, “Pinstripe Empire”, out on the history of the Yankees from even before Babe Ruth. All the customer reviews on Amazon are giving it five stars so far. We are going to order it soon.

hi everyone – just getting back to the hotel from the big wedding. It was wonderful from beginning to end. The location was lovely – a little clearing in the woods with chairs for the guests making two semi circles on either side of the aisle. There were butterflies flitting all over the place. A string quartet played lovely mimic to accompany the processional and celebratory recessional.
The tent for the reception was lovely – there was not one thing that anyone could say “it should have been”.
But we are exhausted. Been there, did the wedding, danced our feet off and partied with the best of them, but now we are throwing in the towel and crawling into bed.
Hope the rest of you have a grand time at the party. Thanks for the dance Siber, and Belle Starr- you never looked lovlier. Rio – if you have that bowl of beer, you make sure Beau drives home.
