Good morning and Happy Mothers Day to all of our moms!
Today, our mommy says all she wants to do is rest up from her very busy and fun-filled day yesterday. We hope to have some pictures to post because the fundraiser extravaganza was a feast for the eyes as well as the tastebuds. The venue was a beautiful well-restored Victorian theatre. The theme was ” the outlandish and peculiar world of sideshow and vaudeville to life. Thrill to the antics of acrobats, blush at the blandishments of our saucy artistes, or gawk at the freaks if that’s your pleasure. And of course, we’ll be featuring the very best in art and unique items and experiences to our bidders, all to benefit our animals and programs in a big, big way. ”
We love love love all of the wedding pictures and wish we could have been there, but Mom said we had to stay home and hold down the fort in her abscence.

Howdy, y’all y’all. We are sorry to have missed the wedding but we are currently in Nashville. The trip has been wonderful, a much needed respite from daily life.
Yesterday we went to Carnton, site of one of the most devastating battles of the Civil War 10,000 dead and wounded in less than five hours.
We saw Emmy Lou Harris in concert at a fundraiser, and that was amazing. Today we are heading for Roanake, VA.

Happy Mothers Day everyone. So sorry I missed the wedding but my Aunt Carol and Uncle Alex were visiting mom and dad, so I had to stay here. But I have to say, Beau took very good care of the Wookiemobile, although I am not sure what to do about the empty beer keg in the back seat.
The wedding photos are just spectacular; special thanks to Mollypop’s Mom for getting them to the rest of us. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more radiant mother of the bride than Melanie; she was so beautiful in her purple dress. And given all that the Montague family has been through recently, the wedding was just a wonderful treasure for them all.
Looking forward to a great day here, but will be checking back in later.

Barb is not a happy camper. You know how she tries to be organic with her gardening. She even makes her own compost, and never, ever uses chemicals in her garden. Well, another example of better living thru chemistry – The Farm Services guys sprayed a liquid fertilizer and Roundup combo on the field across the road last week. Evidently there was a blow-over or drift, because now all our leafy vegetables have white burn spots on them, and all the smaller trees in the yard that we have planted are getting brown leaves and then the leaves are falling off.
A guy came over yesterday and took photos and is supposed to meet with a chem.rep tomorrow to talk to him. He “doesn’t think” the plants will die, but Barb won’t eat any of the leaves that have spots on them. She is P*ssed! WE NEED TO MOVE!

That is one of the dangers of living in the country. Our garden is sheltered on all 4 sides. Thank dog for that because there are spray planes going over all year. Also, once a neighbor asked if we wanted to have them spray for mosquitoes in our yard while they were doing his. The answer was NO. I love my swallows too much for that. I just would rather swat them.
(Although Encephalitis and Lyme disease are not unknown here)

Nana’s sister (in the photo with her nephew and nieces) also went back to school to get her law degree a few years back. It was a wise decision considering the turn the economy has taken these past few years.

It looks like the garden will survive. The new leaves coming on the spinach are normal. Peppers and tomatoes had not been planted yet. Now that would have been upsetting – if they had killed all the tomatoes we have been nurturing since March!
These guys all think chemicals are fine and they believe they couldn’t farm without them, but many of these same farmers die of cancer. There is definitely a link.
We are just a little 5 acres sandwiched in between two big guys. We loose!

Barb & Maggie, heartbreaking about the chemical sprays. We also are surrounded by a “bad” farmer. Such a shame when our closest neighbors are “good” farmers, one of which is organic. But there is one guy who owns so much land in our township and although he doesn’t live near us, he owns the fields that surround us on 2 sides. He even spreads sludge, which is so super-scary to us. Hopefully, where our little garden is cannot easily get hit by anything he sprays.
Tonight, Mom and Pop are going to a concert to see one of our favorite young girls play. Why not us? We think maybe they don’t want to let our guys in there in case our singing would interfere with the music.
