An Awkward Moment

“So,” said Suzie, glancing at Freddie and Trimmer, down on the floor, and Portia, standing where I could keep an eye on her, “what’s this all about?”

“How much time have you got?” said Bernie.

“For you, Bernie?” she said.

Human blushing is a very interesting thing. Bernie hardly ever blushes but he was doing it now. “Ah,” he said, giving Suzie a quick look, then turning away. “Um,” he added, and, “Uh.” Suzie had a little smile on her face. What the hell was going on? You tell me.
