Well of COURSE members of the Nation Within should be allowed on trains. And planes for that matter.

    Good morning all

yawn. Staff made me get up early because she is going out into the slippery ice filled roads to go to a restaurant with friends who collect sewing machines. What a dope!

Hey Tupper’s Mama, Can Tupper do this?

    Good morning all.

Good article on Amtrak. Isn’t Winston just adorable?

Remember the article about dogs waging their tails to the right when they are being friendly? Well, Barb says she can tell that my tail is going from center to right, but how can you tell with a Corgi?

    10:24 am on December 10th, 2013

What Talent! But, of course, this is only to be expected from us Royals they say.

    B: We agree.

Barb&Magpie: It’s that Slow Wag that you should be careful of.

And a quick note to Alice: Tell your Staff to stay home today.

    Ho Ho still No Snow.

Or, is the slow wag a Kat thing? Pondering.

BSD, We have lots of snow and more expected. Flurries today, 2-4″ tomorrow and then some more on the weekend.

Barb agrees with Bee. Children on trains and planes can be annoying.

    Good Morning All!

Little snow and ice, ice, ice. It’s a skating rink out there.

I would like dogs on trains. Planes? Not so much. We have only sent one puppy by plane. She was the littlest of the litter, her parents were here visiting their parents, the grands had visited the litter twice, and she was able to fit under the plane seat. Not that she stayed there. Everyone wanted to meet the Ewok. She did NOT stay small.

After talking with LLL, who has read about airline travel in the cargo area for animals for law classes, said she would NEVER send any animal that way.

    I’m with her.

    Acupuncture today.

Melanie: Don’t some airlines specialize in transporting pets? I wonder if they are any better. I agree with LLL…sending pets by air is NOT an option.
School closures south of here because of icy road conditions. Supposed to warm up this afternoon.
In an unrelated incident…a boy was suspended from school for kissing a girl on the cheek.

Masquers, Whaaa? Was that considered sexual abuse?

Barb’s first ever dog of her very own was shipped out from Denver to St. Louis by train when Barb was 14. Sibby, a Welsh Terrier, was 9 months old at the time. For about a year after the trip she would run and hide whenever there was a little noise in the house, for instance, toast popping up in the toaster. Poor thing must have terrorized!

    Dear Alice M. Johnson,
Yes, I can most certainly do that. And in my younger days, frequently did. However, I am now an older and more responsible Royal – surely you would not expect Queen Elizabeth to cut a rug the way she must have as a young woman.

Unfortunately, Gilly has not seen fit to mature into the proper Royal personage that she should have. Her back end is still known to accomplish the wiggling perambulations shown in that video. Just ask Rebecca – she calls it Gilly’s on/off switch, except that it is never off, unless she is sleeping.

GOOD MORNING, EVERYONE Mom just got home from the oncology place. She had a kitty scan on Friday. Doctor told her that he saw nothing unsusal EXCEPT for a few missing bits, spleen, appendix. Everyone is a comedian. 6 months of freedom. Down side. Still have a lump on face and that dr doesn’t feel it is cancerous and not in salivary gland. Did ultrasound. Trying antibiotic to see if it shrinks. If not??? They call me Lumpy.

Sharon – SOOOOOO Glad the kitty scan was good news.

We have some good news to share too. Our roommate Callie had to go for another tumor removal today. It was a very large tumor that was impeding her ability to walk. The vet was very honest with us, and told us her chance of coming through the surgery was not great at her age, but the alternative was to watch her decline from pain and immobility. (we didn’t want to mention it because we didn’t know what the outcome was going to be)

The surgeon just called. The giant tumor is gone, and Callie is awake and her vitals are fine. WHEW! She really is a marvelous puppy, and we were worried sick, but she is going to be fine.
    twirling, twirling, happy Corgi dance

Great news regarding Callie and Lumpy!

I used to take my 2 young boys from Montana to Minnesota on the train. We enjoyed the trips but not sure if the ones who sat nearby could say the same. Heh, heh.

More snow shoveling on the agenda today. The good news is the sun is shining. It is minus 2 F (minus 20 C).

Good news from T & G and HOH.

How is Boobear’s dad doing? And we haven’t heard from Wolfie lately either.

Barb has to venture out later to the grocery store and to a short music program for Lyla. Christmas carols will be sung by a bunch of littles. Yesterday Lyla said she couldn’t remember any of the songs, so we will see.

Happy Min-pin dance from Macy and Annie, and Belle looked less disagreeable than usual. We just finished a Dingo fresh breath chew so it is minty around here. Annie and I went out to frolic in the melting ice. The sun is out, so our ice time is limited. Some of the area schools stayed closed today, but not dad’s. We are happy about that, too.

WARNING — SERIOUS CUTENESS ALARM — WARNING

Teddy has a girlfriend Her name is Zeta (I may have mistakenly referred to her at Zada in a previous posting). She is a 7 month old Siberian Husky and she is absolutely adorable. They had met a couple of times in Rock Creek Park previously, but today had a real play date at a nearby elementary school (closed because of the snow here in the DC area). Some photos will follow.

Happy 11 months to Darah. A Newf always on the move. Not sure I’ve seen a picture of her un-blurred.

Train ride. We went from VA to MA to see Zoë and the Raven. Just my guys and me. YSAS’s (5 years old) cuteness factor was well above 100. An old man, who spoke no English, got a long great with him. The man was traveling with his son. The son had lived here for many years. The wife/mother had been able to escape from one of the then Eastern Block countries. The father had finally made it out.

He was quite taken with YSAS, and when my little guy decided to nap, the old man took a newspaper and folded it around YSAS to keep him warm. His son explained that in the country his father was from it was how they kept warm on the train.

Of course, OTAS was a tad concerned. But, he listened to the man and decided it was okay.

We had about 4″ of beautiful snow today. Mom and Pop had to go to work, but we Sibes played and played and played. And, now that we’ve eaten supper, guess what. We are going back out to play!

Thanks everyone for your comments about Teddy and Zeta.

OH — No, they are not tied together. Zeta’s owner kept her lease on her initially while they were playing. As we have heard, Sibers are not always great at coming back, so this was a precaution. However, later on, when Zeta got a bit tired, her owner did take the leash off. We also understand that Zeta is an apprentice construction projecteer. Sound like someone else we know.

Macy — Sweet thoughts, but Teddy was a perfect gentleman at all times. Also, I think that has already been taken care of as regards Zeta.

We were also very ecstatic about the good news re Callie (Wookie was always sweet on Callie) and Sharon.

Wose, Not sure about Howler’s chickens, but ours most definitely did not like snow. If there was snow outside their door, and then a grassy area beyond, most would not venture thru the snow to get to the other side. Sometimes if a brave soul would go across the others would follow, but they usually would try to fly across the snowy area.

Hopefully Rebecca is getting some rest in between fearless flying and running around like a chicken.

Just checking in to say goodnight. I got back from the fun luncheon about 4 and was so tired I had to have a nap. The roads were fine. I guess all the problems were fixed by 10 a.m. which is when we got started.

Love Love Love the pictures of Teddy RR and his friend Z.

    Dara! Looking BIG.

I have been wondering about Rebecca also because we never were notified of who won our prizes. She is supposed to let us know when they are paid and then we can ship. But I think some people wanted these for presents so if anyone needs their potholders, pillowcases or Christmas trees soon please SDD me. I figure you are good for it.

  103. Buddy and Leno
    11:22 pm on December 10th, 2013

Of course dogs should ride trains, especially if they travel as well as Leno does, he had a nice train trip. In Buddy’s perfect world, well-behaved dogs and cats would be allowed to accompany humans in all sorts of public places. Unfortunately, this isn’t Buddy’s perfect world, and even more unfortunately, too many humans don’t know how to have animals who are well behaved in public. Of course, the same is true of children, but that’s another story. Or maybe it isn’t.

Anyway, funny Amtrak story, or not so funny. I expect that you could maybe get all manner of free trips on the train if you’re blind, not that I’d try. Because when I got on the train last Tuesday, they never scanned my ticket, and Amtrak Emailed and asked that I call immediately. They explained I didn’t show up for my train, which I was riding on. Well, that got straightened out, and I said, “Oh, well, they probably forgot, being as they were probably concerned with getting me and my Seeing Eye™ dog settled.” “What? You have a service dog?” “Yeah.” “Well, that isn’t documented here.” “Well, of course it isn’t, nothing in my reserveration asked about that, and it isn’t that inmportant anyway.” “Well, when you make a reservation, you have to call and talk to someone, and they have to document your dog.” “No,they don’t.” “Yes they do, it is required. If your dog’s small enough, he can lie in front of your seat, but depending on its size, you might need two seats.” “Come on. It’s a Labrador. He doesn’t take up that much room. And besides, there is no such legal requirement that I disclose anyway.” So he left it alone.

Now mind you, I’ve taken trains with all three of my guides, and flown with them, even taken the Greyhound with them all, probably the worst thing ever. They’ve all traveled well, and none have taken up lots of room. An even more ridiculous assertion since the train has oodles and gobs and scads of room compared to, say, the Greyhound, certainly more than most airplanes these days. Especially since they seem to have this thing about sticking me in the “This seat is reserved for passengers with disabilities” seat, which has space to tie down a wheelchair and thus, even more room than usual. So pretty ridiculous.

Oh hey, I found out that this interview I had last week for this other podcast posted this weekend. They tell me it even came out OK. Not a lot to do with the nation unfortunately, or travel, or, well, much of anything else really. http://www.fedoraoutlier.com/buddy-brannan/

My Two-Legged arrived home about 45 minutes ago from work. She has been thinking about all youse, this I know for certain. I also know she has been very busy with work and has had to drive on bad roads to and from work all week. I also know she leaves on tomorrow for the top of the world again. I know she is still dehyrdated. I have been told she has been faint, but I don’t understand this word. She went to the doctor and was told about the her continued dehydration and then added exhaustion to the mix. I don’t understant exhaustion. Me?—If I’m tired, I sleep. She does not.

If payment has been received for auction items, the donator should have a message in their SDD. She cauhgt up on the auction payments tonight. There are still several payments that haven’t been received.

I don’t know what her schedule or her access to this here blog will look like the rest of the week, but please know we here are thinking about youse.
