“What a nice day,” says Spence.

“What did you get?” Admin says.

“I’m not sure that’s what it’s really about.”

“I got a cool jacket. What did you get?”

“It was more being with everyone, catching up, joking around, building a big fire, popping the cork on that champagne we’ve been saving – and thanks,, what a great bottle! – and watching the dogs go crazy, like they were caught up in the happiness contagion.”

“It’s the coolest jacket I’ve ever had.”

The second season of Downton Abbey starts Jan. 8.

I don’t see any mention of a new Chet story on Facebook. Where did you see it Wolfie?

We’ll pass on the champagne, sadly to say. Good morning Bee.

We are getting back on track today. Lots of stuff to put away. Barb got a new wallet so she is organizing that. It is a beautiful Coach wallet and checkbook combo, which she loves.

Yesterday when she got home, I was so excited I jumped on the sofa and covered her whole face with kisses. Usually I am stingy with them, just one or two, but yesterday I gave her a lot more than two!

Wow, more than two! That’s a lot. Love Downton Abbey (even though in my head I always call it Downtown Abbey!).

Barb and MagPie, everyone can have virtual champagne!

    Boxing Day!
I overslept and had to rush to work. Everyone is sleeping. Should I wake them up or let them sleep in? I feel hung over. Not quite as bad as Rio in the tree, but still…

Good detective work on my part, eh? Wolfie the private eye!

Good morning. Aunt Mollysmom is here and she always gives me some of her egg for breakfast. My family doesn’t do that – all I have is duck and sweet potato kibble. Yuck! So this morning I needed my egg breakfast sort of early. I tried to wake up Aunt Mollymom by jumping up and down on her. Then I backed up and pounced. Over and over. It was hard work and she was a bit grumpy about this. She told me to go back to sleep. What?!! The Christmas spirit is gone already.

I’ve been reading it on the blog all this time as Downtown Abbey so Barb is not alone.

Looking forward to the announcement of a Chet short story. Spence must know by now what happens when he starts something like that.

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!
Today is a good day to zone out and recover.

Did Rio ever find his way out of the tree?

Happy Boxing Day! This is our favorite day of the year. All the folks are gone, all the stuff is put away, and now Mom and Pop keep handing out treats that were in our stockings. We are having a great deal of trouble keeping our eyes open this morning.
Mom’s favorite present was an Ida Kromer, on blue spruce.
Pictures forthcoming when she awakes from her stupor.

“Ugh, I feel hungover.” Dawson spoke with gravel in her throat, “But at least I’m not in a tree like Rio.”

“Ha!” He wuffled. Dawson’s head jerked to the right. Her head didn’t split in two, confirming her suspicion that she just felt like she had one sip too many. “You are in a tree. Snort!”

The tinsle fell from Dawson’s hair as she closed her eyes, rested her forehead on her fists, and did a quick evaluation of her life in general and what led to her curent perdicamennt. She couldn’t recall any details of the latter. The pug burped.

“Dawson!!” her name slapped her out of her quiet reflectiion—quiet if you didn’t count the bodily noises of her treemate. “Lift your head up! Up! Up! Up! You’re missing the view.”

Lifting her head, resolved to look on the bright side like Rio, she saw the one thing she did not want to see. “Dawson! Again? Honestly.” Big sisters were one thing, but big sisters at a time like this with a camera and a sense of humor were quite another.

Dawson lowered her head back onto her fists, “Hiyya, Staff.”

YSAS’s favorites were his Zombie movie set equipment.
Zoë’s was a bronze sleeping Newf.
Mine were two real books (not on Kindle).
    Exceptional Treehouses
    Unseen Ansel Adams!
Dan loved his two books on Ravens and his snuggle Patriots TV watcher thing.

All WE got were some rawhide chew things. And gourmet biscuits. And table scraps. And lots of tummies and cuddles from company. And peppermint stick e
Ice cream. And new woobies with squeakers.
    Hardly nuthin at all.

Mama on the other hand was spoiled rotten. She even got the new set of pots and pans she was wishing for. And a new wire and bead Zebra for her collection and a hand carved gorilla from Africa. He has a tag that says profits from his sale go to preserve gorilla habitat – a cause that Mama loves. And she got slippers and mittens and earmuffs and a scarf and…
WAY too much other stuff. And not one thing that she wants to return!

And later today, she and Dad are going to a gathering that they say is their very favorite Christmas tradition.

After!….Beau and I woke up starvin’ marvin so she made us some scrambled eggs…snort! slurp!….Good stuff any day of the year. My friends favorite gift she received is a beautiful white high collar fleece vest and white Isatomer mittens and I spotted some cash in one of the cards…wheeze!….She thinks these things will be great on our trip Up North….sniff!…The bedroom slippers do not fit so she has to exchange those….dammit!…Not doing any of that kind of stuff today though. She is far too busy making little cards again to be bothered with going to some store…grunt!

I just had a Florida orange. Delish. I’ve decided to work on my idea that Voldemort is based on, or is similar to, Satan in Milton’s Paradise Lost. The change in the appearance of each is what first gave me the idea. That means that I’ll have to reread all of the Harry Potter novels plus Paradise Lost, my copy of which containing all my notes, is in Florida. Blast.

Since we are talking gifts, Barb got a new dvd player (I think she needed it!), and some charms for her bracelet. Oldest Grand, Baye, made her a piece of pottery which is beautiful. She is 12 and took an adult pottery class. Her pieces look like they came from an art studio. Not as good as the works of Golinka, but she definitely has talent.

We just watched a delightful little movie, too. It is called Miss Potter, a story about Beatrix Potter. Renee Zellweger stars as Potter, and does a good job in her quirky way. Miss Potter seems like she might have been a wee bit quirky herself. Beautifully done, great filming of the English countryside, and the costuming and settings are also well done. It is about 5 years old so you might have seen it already. I know Bee would love it.

We got lovely new collars. Dad is busy changing all of our bling from the old ones to the new ones. Since mom got her iPaw several months ago, she didn’t want anything else. Dad always thinks they need a new game to play, so mom got “Smart A-S-S”. hmmm. Dad got a ukulele, and it may fall victim to an “accident” soon if he does not stop tuning it.

Oh, and I got my beautiful blanket. Back OFF Annie. Mama needs to schnitzel.

With a sigh, Dawson opened her eyes slowly. Through the glittering lights, she saw a toe tapping.

Tap tap tap tap tap, the sound was ripe with impatience.

“Dawson? How do you plan on getting down this time? Don’t expect me to help you! I told you last time, never again! And don’t expect Astird to help you out either. Last I heard, she went missing to parts unknown.”

Staff’s countenance slowly came into focus. She was frowning with a dark scowl that spoke volumes of concern.

Beside her, Rio chortled with glee. “Snort, Dawson, you are really in for it this time, heh, heh. The last time this happened you took out the entire Christmas tree! Now that was a sight to see, wheeze. This is gunna be good!”

Rio’s friend burst into the room. “Rio, I just got a strange call from Melanie and the Royal’s mum. What on earth is going on here! You are grounded for the rest of your life! Grounded, I say. Grounded!”

The pretty green bow drifted to the ground as Rio’s tail uncurled slowly. Just then-

    PS Mr.Husky,
I also enjoy reading books about baseball. <i<The Year the Yankees lost the Pennant by Douglass Wallop is a great one. Also Bang the Drum Slowly is very good. In fact that whole series by Mark Harris is great. Bang follows “The Southpaw” (1953). The others were “A Ticket for a Seamstitch” (1957) and “It Looked Like For Ever” (1979).

Barb – your little Baye has absolutely got talent! What a lovely bowl. Symetry is tough with the pottery wheel, and this looks very, very good!

Had a Grand Time at Melanie’s. Mama and Dad are so very proud of those two boys – you would think they had raised them themselves. Their Mom did a fabulous job with them, and they are both delights in our lives. And FOTAS is lovely, funny, and delightful … and makes OTAS happy…so we love her a lot too!
Melanie gave Mama mooses and a Case of a Corgi – YSAS gave our Dad Boxing Lessons and the Pack sent us the BEST cookies we ever had.
(They sent Basil and Sage catnip mousies, and those ridiculous cats are acting like idiots – killing those mousies over and over.)

Whew – what a weekend! A GREAT time was had by all. Hope everyone who is traveling gets home safe and snug, hope those that have to work tomorrow can get thru the day quickly, and we hope the joy of the weekend stays with us all throughout the year!
