Admin’s World Series Picks!
Were as follows (March 31):
Head: Rays vs. Cards.
Heart: Red Sox vs. Dodgers
“Hey,” Admin says, “the Cards and Dodgers are still in it! Do I win something?”
“Only in a land where you get a trophy for just getting out of bed in the morning.”
“Hmm. Could that be the makings of an SNL sketch?”
“No.”
Note: Still working on a fix for the Friends gallery. No uploading possible at this time.

SNL??
Good morning all.

We have nothing to contribute about the Series, but will say good morning to everyone.
Project for the morning: paint the last two vanity doors and finish the walls in the master bathroom. Did I tell you that the bath has a total chicken theme? Country French chickens everywhere. Barb does love her chickens!
Speaking of which, the farm where Peaches lives has had a bit of bad luck. Raccoon have killed 15 chickens in the last two weeks. Four raccoon have been caught and “dispatched”. One weighed in at close to 50 lbs. We believe that Peaches is the only one of our 5 chickens that has survived the onslaught. She sleeps up in the rafters and was unreachable, Thank Dog. Peaches visited the kids at school last spring, after getting a shampoo and blow dry. The kids loved her.
Now the people who have her think they may get rid of all their chickens for the winter and start over in the spring. We have to call Kim and see if we can take her out there. When I saw Peaches this weekend I called her by name. She looked up at me and clucked.

Good morning.
Barb, why would they want to get rid of their chickens? We are glad Peaches survived.

Rio, last night I checked Karen Joy Fowler’s blog and I followed your conversations with her. Just because I didn’t say anything about it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. I went to bed.
Stop connipping. She really likes you.
10:52 am on September 29th, 2014
Good morning all.
That young man who pitched a no-hitter yesterday is from our area of Wisconsin. He played for our city’s semi-pro baseball team, the Eau Claire Express. (I would like a cherry pie please, B.)
Rio: How cool was that to chat with Karen Joy Fowler. I am EXTREMELY happy for you.
The other buddy in this house has done something to his ankle, so we are going to be at urgent care at 11:15. He thinks a sprain, I think possibly something else.
BBML.
10:52 am on September 29th, 2014
Good morning all.
First off – HAPPY BIRTHDAY EILEEN!!!! And Happy Anniversary too. Big, celebratory day for you and the luckiest guy in Pennsylvania!
Barb – so glad Peaches was smarter than the average coon.
Well, Sage is on his way to his regular v e t today. He seems to be feeling better, but now he is sneezing his little whiskers off. So both he and Basil are going for a “look-see” visit.
It’s always something.

Admin: You are SOL!
BearSpiritDog: Nana got out of Hong Kong just in time to avoid the crowds.
Rio: I did try to find KJF’s blog but find it I could not.
Billy’s Buddy’s other Buddy: Ouch!
O’Howler’s: Happy birthday to Eileen and Happy Anniversary to both O’Howlers. I’m sure happy I got to meet you on your anniversary trip to Alaska. What a memory!
Barb&Maggie: Yikes! Those raccoons are good climbers.
Basil&Sage’s Mama: Hope the vet finds all is well with Sage and Basil.
Macy and Biddy are up top.
Have a Monday mosey!
12:17 pm on September 29th, 2014
Happiest of birthdays to you, Eileen!!!
I hope Basil and Sage will both bit in tip-topiest shape!
RIO! I am sad to think that you would think I didn’t love you! I know we had some ups and downs when I first came on this here blog, but that is water under the bridge. I always look forward to your posts, and sometimes, I laugh so hard, whatever I am drinking gets snorted right out of my nose. I think that is so cool that your friend is becoming friends with KJF! She is also good friends with Spence!
Your friend rocks! I love Beau too!
Per your advice, I will not read the book right now.
12:52 pm on September 29th, 2014
Rose!…I am glad you will not be reading this amazing book, as strange as that sounds…sniff!….Here is an excerpt from a review – maybe you will understand…wuffle!
Last summer, Karen Joy Fowler made me cry.
On a homeward bound bus from New York City, I periodically put down her newest book, We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves, in order to compose myself. My nose ran. I warped and mottled the pages with my tears. I made an undignified, involuntary huh huh sound until the passenger in front of me turned around and wedged his face between seat and window to see exactly what was wrong. As I finished the novel that night, I took reluctant breaks from the final pages to be comforted by my girlfriend, wanting to propel myself straight through to the end but unable to do so without being held. In between all of this pathos, I also gasped and chewed on my fingers, spoke out loud without realizing it, and, at least once, discovered that my mouth was ajar in a perfect O and had been so for quite some time. I didnāt just read this book, I was occupied by it.
1:06 pm on September 29th, 2014
Short-List!…She is on the short list to win the Man Booker Prize for fiction…snort!…It is down to just six authors now…yeeep!
1:08 pm on September 29th, 2014
Happy Birthday Eileen. And Happy Anniversary too.
You asked why the people where Peaches lives are getting rid of their chickens. They are farmers, and so they don’t look at farm animals the same way we do. Their chickens are well cared for, but they look at them as egg and meat producers, not pets. They are going to be gone for a month or two this winter, so it will be easier for them if there are no animals to be cared for.
1:24 pm on September 29th, 2014
Rio – we were intrigued by how strongly affected you were with Beside Ourselves, so we did some looking into it. Not going to say a word, because everything would indeed be a spoiler. But we will not be reading this book.
But a question for you – do you read/like John Irving?
1:28 pm on September 29th, 2014
This is one of the most colorful falls ever. MA is a very lovely state in the autumn. Of course snow is pretty too..but it lasts too long!
1:29 pm on September 29th, 2014
Irving!…I used to when I was a mere pup…snort!…Then there was something of his I read and did not like and have never picked up another novel by him again…grunt!
1:51 pm on September 29th, 2014
Ditto what Tupper’s mama said about KJF’s book. I read a review and it sounds fascinating in concept, but don’t think it for me either.
2:02 pm on September 29th, 2014
RIO! Based on your recommendation, I will NOT read the book. (maybe someday). But, I hope KJF receives the prize in recognition of how many people have been moved and affected by it.
Zoe: Grizz and I have been to your lovely state in the fall, and the colors are just breathtaking. We have also gone there in the winter, and enjoyed it as well.
2:03 pm on September 29th, 2014
Hmmm….Well if you read about it before you read it – that sort of ruins it…grunt!…That is why I told Stover not to read anything about it before she started…wheeze!
2:05 pm on September 29th, 2014
I know Rio, you were right. The review sort of gave away too much.
2:12 pm on September 29th, 2014
Review!…And now you know why the part of the review above is all about the Reviewer and not the book…snort! ….And I take back what I said about “ruining it” I don’t think anything could ruin it no matter what…wuffle!
3:03 pm on September 29th, 2014
I finished Completely Beside Myself this noon. I spent the last day and a half quilting and reading. I was not as profoundly affected as the reviewer was. Or as Rio was. But it is a very intense book. I do think it is a too intense for Rose at this time. I had to put it down periodically and decompress. She is a very good writer. You do not feel at all as if something is being made up for you. It just flows along.
I concur with Rio though. Knowing nothing was the way I went in. I think that is a good way to go.
3:38 pm on September 29th, 2014
Happy Birthday Eileen.
A cherry pie coming up for Billy’s Buddy.

And isn’t that the most wonderful thing about books….there is a book out there for everybody but not every book is for every- body! And it is that difference that makes life so interesting. I have to say I am mixed in feelings about the book in discussion, as I think I have cried at far less. I do hope it wins the Man Booker prize for fiction because it seems to elicit strong feelings. I have no use for shallow feelings.
5:36 pm on September 29th, 2014
Thanks for all of the birthday and anniversary wishes, Guys! Rio and Beau, I will drink a mug of beer just for you.
I am still in Gettysburg. Yesterday was a horse ride; today was a bike ride. I even managed to make it up and over both Big Roundtop and Little Roundtop. We had planned to come home today, but decided to stay one more day. I am having a blast, though missing all of my fur and feather kids.

What does it mean when a post is awaiting moderation? Does it mean it is there but you all can’t see it? Will it at some point be deemed OK to read and show up right where it is, or pop down to the last post posted? I get it about certain words that have been mentioned here so I will see what happens!
Meantime, the message I posted referred to the book some are reading, and in a nutshell….I think it is great that different people are drawn to different books! Makes life interesting. Even being moderated in pink letters is rather interesting!
8:16 pm on September 29th, 2014
I didn’t know it was Boobear’s mom’s birthday too. Wow, September is a busy month for birthdays.

Dawson: Thanks for asking. Sigh. Diagnosis for the other buddy: cracked distal tibia. Foot wrapped, boot, crutches, foot elevated and iced. Appointment next week with an orthopedic doc. Older son says, at least it isn’t a hip. I say, phhhpttt!!!
I have had a strengthening cocktail.
Happy birthday, BooBear’s Mom!

ALR, you can see the moderated post, but we can’t. My experience has been it may or may not show up on the blog later.
If it does show up, it will be right in the location where you posted it.
8:29 pm on September 29th, 2014
ALR!…It means you can see your post but the rest of us cannot until the Moderator says it can be public knowledge…snuffle!….It happens all the time for no real apparent reason except that some words like sh-oe-s or gam-bl-ing cannot be used…grunt!
8:35 pm on September 29th, 2014
Happy Birthday to My Fellow Sibers mom and the mom of my favorite Texas Kat.
Macy, I did know Washington resigned. The Rangers didn’t do too well this season. (They lost one more game than the Rockies) I did like Washington. Some of us here on the blog, including Spence, will just have to wait until next year.
8:36 pm on September 29th, 2014
another word that is moderated is special-ist. For some reason that word is not allowed. grump.
And also if you post two pictures or two links or a picture and a link at once it never shows up. Only ONE grasshopper.

Moderation!…It’s a funny mysterious thing….snort!…Just take my post at 1:06 – it was moderated and I could not figure out why…sniff!…But now it is showing as public.
9:09 pm on September 29th, 2014
Staff, The Twinkies won more games than the Rockies or Rangers did.
9:09 pm on September 29th, 2014
Rio – betcha it had to do with the man book er wording.
9:12 pm on September 29th, 2014
Golinka!…That was my first thought too…sniff!…But hadn’t Stover been the one to tell us about that award? I wonder if she was moderated at the time. She is the one who started all this. I hope she is reading the story…heh!heh!

The next phase of the Sage Saga – the regular v e t thinks he ate a “bad mouse”. She said he shows all the signs, and that as long as he is improving, he will be fine. We don’t use poison to kill the mousies around here, because we know that if a critter picks up a d-con mouse, they can be poisoned too. So, we have to use traps, or just live with the skitter-scatter of little mouse feet in the ceilings.
9:14 pm on September 29th, 2014
Awww!…The risks of being a Mouse-Murderer…sniff!…Poor Sage….hmmphf!
9:17 pm on September 29th, 2014
Tupper’s Mama, a “bad Mouse”? We agree, it was bad to have made poor Sage so ill.
9:24 pm on September 29th, 2014
HOH – when the v e t said a “bad mouse” we had visions of a little guy with a leather jacket, chains and a “born to nibble” tattoo on his paw.
Rio – betcha it was Bee who started that whole man book er thingie. What the heck, she has probably signed off for the day – let’s blame her anyway.
tee hee
9:28 pm on September 29th, 2014
Tupper’s Mama, that had been our thought too since it came on so suddenly. Didn’t think specifically about a bad mouse, but just that he ate something or was exposed to something that was bad for him. A mouse could have traveled from a neighbor’s house and ended up in your yard. Certainly glad he is getting better.
9:37 pm on September 29th, 2014
BooBear’s mom and our mom are twins. Didn’t you guys know that?
9:38 pm on September 29th, 2014
Blame!…I do not blame but relish the fact that because of Stover I now have a second most favorite author…heh!…The Charming Mr. Abrahams will always be my first and foremost author…chuffle!squeak!
9:45 pm on September 29th, 2014
Billy’s Buddy: Oh no! You definitely need a strengthening cocktail because you will be doing all the heavy lifting for the foreseeable future! I will have a cocktail in sympathy with you.
Moderated!
That prize Rio mentioned at 1:06 was moderated last year when BStover tried posting about it. The Man B—– Prize.
Happy Birthday to Boo Bear’s Mom, too!
September is the best month for birthdays and anniversaries.

Yay for strengthening cocktails. We will not indulge tonight but all those with birthdays, or housemates with broken bones, should definitely have one…or two.
Nighty night.

10:03 pm on September 29th, 2014
Moderation often has something to do with g a m b l i n g words. Remember, s h o e is moderated and that is what the thing that contains the packs of cards in a g a m b l i n g establishment is called.

Rio: I have been unusually busy today but I am here. And snow is on the tops of some of the mountains. Leaves are falling like rain and mornings are frosty cold. Winter is coming fast!
1:42 am on September 30th, 2014
Hello all,
By way of updates from Snowhook… Things have been busy here the last couple of weeks since I’ve been home for the season. The top of the list has been conditioning and working 40 dogs as well as teaching Phil how to run Iditarod and run dogs long distance. Followed up by rebuilding dog houses and the puppy/retired dog pen. From there the deck had to be rebuilt where ice fall from the roof demolished it. Once that was done I cut a 400 yard access trail for the team and most recently I had to rebuild the dog truck box (pictures to come). Now on tap is rebuilding the sled. Pictured is the before picture with an after to also come soon.
Where I’m going with this is none of this would be possible without the plunderer group support. Thank you.
