Admin Interviews Spence Re A Cat Was Involved
“Who gave you the idea?”
“Huh?”
“Or what, if you prefer.”
“I thought of it myself.”
“Oh, really? Define ‘it’.”
“In this case, it is the day Chet and Bernie met.”
“So – a prequel to the series?”
“One of several possible prequels.”
“I hate the word prequel.”
“Totally your right. But getting back to the story, I thought it would be fun to take the few facts we already knew or thought we knew about that day and put them at the heart of a brand new mystery.”
“And how did it go?”
“You’re telling me you haven’t read it?”
“I’ve been extremely busy this summer.”
Spence gives Admin a long look. “I hear you haven’t put a backhand in the court in three weeks.”
The interview concludes.

Good to see you owning up to Scottsdale/Pottsdale.

9:28 am on August 8th, 2012
Congrats on your new book, Terry!
9:36 am on August 8th, 2012
Speaking of Scottsdale, mom is going there tomorrow for a workshop on Quantum Touch healing.
It will be 114*. She is dumb.
9:39 am on August 8th, 2012
Wha!?…grunt!
9:44 am on August 8th, 2012
Wolfie – thanks!
…but it’s a dry heat. I survived 43 summers in Phoenix – just stay indoors during the day as much as possible. Then go to the pool after that. Beer and margaritas help.
9:49 am on August 8th, 2012
Admin!…His interviewing skills need a bit of toning…heh!heh!…What is Quantum Touch Healing anyways?
10:04 am on August 8th, 2012
Terry – Mama has been in Phoenix/Scottsdale in August and she says that “dry heat” line is a bunch of hooey. After all – you bake potatoes in dry heat too.
Chet and Bernie should move to New Mexico where temperatures are civilized!
Wolfie – tell your Mom to drink lots of water! A parasol would help too.
10:09 am on August 8th, 2012
Good Morning y’all. Just another sweaty day in paradise. pant pant pantpantpantpantpantpant
10:09 am on August 8th, 2012
Fight! Fight!
Good morning all.
10:11 am on August 8th, 2012
Tony, just wanted to say congratulations on your new book!
Nice picture, too. Since I am not a citizen of the world, or even the United States, can you tell me where exactly that picture was taken. It looks very pretty.
10:11 am on August 8th, 2012
TERRY, not Tony….ARRRRGGGHHHHHH!!!!!
10:15 am on August 8th, 2012
I wonder when Spence and Admin will talk to each other again.
Good Morning all! 48 hours until Zoe and I get some time off!
Woo Hoo!
10:27 am on August 8th, 2012
Rose,
Not the worst thing I’ve been called. Should have made this more explicit. It was taken in Pottsdale, excuse me, Scottsdale, AZ. It’s the Borgata mall, where my wife worked years ago at an upscale book store.
10:42 am on August 8th, 2012
I think I’m done with my gluten reaction. This gluten free thing is so much harder than I expected it to be. I have some pictures to post later.
A quick explanation of Kindle Whispernet and wifi. Wifi goes over the Internet. Kindle’s Whispernet is their proprietary 3G network which is basically like a cell phone.
10:46 am on August 8th, 2012
My bags are packed but I am not ready to go. It is raining a nice soaky rain here. (Evidently soaky is my own word) It might help our meadow rejuvenate. Maybe.
Mr.Staff is taking the opportunity to burn in the burning barrel.
Oops. The lights just went out. Maybe I better take that shower right away. Or never. Heh.
I just tried to post and it said I was posting too fast. I haven’t posted yet. Hmmmmm.
11:06 am on August 8th, 2012
Mollypop’s Mom,
I am sorry to hear of the reaction. I was interested when Melanie explained about how it is worse because you have been off of it.
I used to think that gluten was just in breads but I have been learning about it from you guys. I think it might be worse than sodium. At least they put the amount of sodium on the package but with gluten you can’t always tell.
Wishing you the best as you learn about it.
11:07 am on August 8th, 2012
Hey, Everybody! We are all sitting on the porch listening to Levon Helm and reading. While Mom isn’t looking, we thought we’d stop by to congratulate Terry/Tony on 2 things: your book! And getting the Scottsdale/Pottsdale connection right. Our Siber buddy has been saying this for quite some time, but seeing as he is one of us Sibes, who Mom says have not-so-good brains, we didn’t believe him. 🙂
11:12 am on August 8th, 2012
Aunt MollysMom! I just learned of your gluten katastrophe. Please feel better soon, and watch out for that stuff. It sorta seems that one might be better off not clearing it out of your body, so the effect is not so terrible.
11:13 am on August 8th, 2012
Here are the two adorable dogs, Lucy and Isabella, that I was dog sitting last weekend.
11:14 am on August 8th, 2012
Terry: Looking forward to reading your new book.
B: Per our neighbor, who is picking up the mail, yours arrived last Thursday. We won’t see it until we get home on Saturday. sob.
Wolfie: Your mom’s class in Scottsdale/Pottsdale sounds very interesting. Can’t wait to hear more about it.
Hi Everyone…back to having fun in the sun (it’s 103 in Lake Chelan) 🙂
11:52 am on August 8th, 2012
Thank you Mollypop’s Mom. Glad you’re feeling better.
Bear: Great! Hope you enjoy the book.
Everyone: Spence does put a question mark after his reference to Pottsdale above.
11:55 am on August 8th, 2012
I have now ordered AFOC both hardback and Kindle. Both arrive on the same day.
Already have AKWI on preorder.
The puppies are very cute.
12:02 pm on August 8th, 2012
SH: Do you like your Kindle?
12:12 pm on August 8th, 2012
Fall now definitely feels like winter in the arctic. It was so cold when I got home from my part-time job last night that I turned up the heat, had hot chocolate and later soaked in a hot bath. How am I ever going to survive winter? The cold makes me want to move but the hot temps I am hearing about on the blog leave me between a rock and a hard place. Is no place safe for a normal way of life?
Received my first retirement check; it is interesting to get a check for doing nothing. My part-time job mostly fills in the gap in earnings which allows me to pay off vet bills *and* buy some things I don’t need. 🙂
12:30 pm on August 8th, 2012
C.Harris is making me laugh. I think perhaps a “normal way of life” as far as moderate temperature would be in northern California. However, the cost of living there is abnormal.
12:32 pm on August 8th, 2012
In order:
Mollypop. Hang in there. Donna and I have been on the Paleo diet for more than two years and love it.
Oley: Thanks! As for Pottsdale, it’s mainly a matter of having lived in “The Valley.” Clues about the real location are in every one of the books.
Bear: Hope you can encourage your library to buy it. My British publisher has been in the business of putting out very scholarly tomes just for libraries, and they priced my book for institutions rather than people. If anyone is curious, there is a link to all of the book’s front matter at googlethisforlibraries.com . I’m particularly proud of the preface.
12:35 pm on August 8th, 2012
CHobbit – Come to Western New York. We have average summer temps of 75 degrees, cooled off by the wind coming over Lake Erie. Then you’ll love winter. If you go south of Buffalo, there’s tons of snow. Come visit me to try it and see what you think!
12:36 pm on August 8th, 2012
That is really an enlightening interview with Spence.
Notice how e-readers have been appearing in the paws of some plunderers as the time for the release of the short story aporoaches.
Stover, I do think I am going to like the Kindle. The first lesson mom learned while reading my Kindle was to keep your paws off the screen except to turn the pages.
12:37 pm on August 8th, 2012
The temp right now is 77.
12:38 pm on August 8th, 2012
B: yes, I thought there would be some comments on my statement about “a normal way of life.” What is normal and do we really, really want it?
I am worried enough about winter that I actually priced a qiviut sweater to keep me warm but it costs $770. The quiviut hat and scarf that I have had for years keep me toasty but I could wear a lot of layers for that price.
12:40 pm on August 8th, 2012
Macy, I see Randy Travis got arrested again in Texas for DUI. This time he a was naked. sigh We do like his music.
The Rockies are on a winning streak…two games.
12:42 pm on August 8th, 2012
Mollypop’s Mom: do you have mountains (or hills?) I’d be lost without them. I drove to Anchorage last week to see my sister and her family and kept getting lost in the big city. And then I remembered my childhood trick of navigating by the mountains ringing the city. In Portland I kept trying to turn the skyscrapers into mountains to guide me but it didn’t work–I was always lost and heading in the wrong direction in Portland.
Water is second best in terms of I like to be near water and look at it.
12:51 pm on August 8th, 2012
Neck-ed!…Randy Travis?…snort!…What has happened to that good ole’ country boy?…grunt!
12:52 pm on August 8th, 2012
SiberH!…You know you just jinxed the whole team by mentioning the “streak”…grunt!
12:52 pm on August 8th, 2012
MPM, those puppies are just the cutest! Hope you are feeling tip-top soon!
12:52 pm on August 8th, 2012
Hobbit: I’m turning 66 this month, so I get to start with Social Security checks in September without paying a penalty for still working full time. I find it more than interesting to get a check for doing nothing – I positively can’t wait.
12:53 pm on August 8th, 2012
Bear, Mom has been to Lake Chelan. She went backpacking in that area…beautiful country.
CHarris, Mom sometimes uses the mountains to nagvigate in Albuquerque.
High of 93 degress here today. Mom doesn’t consider that hot, but I do.
Mollypop’s Mom, Glad you are feeling better and those are cute little doggies.
1:01 pm on August 8th, 2012
MPM, Glad you are feeling better. Did pupsitting give you any urges?
Siber, We saw that Travis was arrested, but totally missed the naked part. Was he driving his car in the buff? Strange behavior for a good ole country boy.
1:11 pm on August 8th, 2012
Barb, I don’t know about driving his car naked, but the cops found him naked in the middle of the road after he had run his car off the road. He is also charged with threatening to shoot and kill police officers. He is in deep doggy do do.
1:34 pm on August 8th, 2012
C.Harris: I think you might like the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I’ll see if I can find some info on it.
Using a geographical point for directions reminds me of being in York, England and having the Minster Cathedral visible everywhere as a point of reference. It was unusual for me because there is nothing like that where I live.
Who is Randy Travis?
1:43 pm on August 8th, 2012
C.Harris: Here is the Wikipedia article on the Upper Peninsula. It has some pictures and many external links.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upper_Peninsula_of_Michigan
1:52 pm on August 8th, 2012
Wolfie: If you pass near St. George in your travels, don’t forget to wave at Coach and Bev.
Cabin update for Rio: AJ said he only did a little. This is true if you count building the loft and building a deck just a little. We have twelve days to get the cabin finished.
Last night must have been a night for nudity. Garcia slipped his collar and strolled around the property in the buff. He is a free spirit and didn’t seem bothered by the experience.
CHobbit: If you’re looking for warm, you could get a mushing parka like AJ’s for the same price. It would be a great way to start your mushing career. When I started mushing, I only had my lightweight mountaineering gear; I froze for one season and then saved up and bought my first mushing parka. It was bottom of the line compared to the parka AJ wears now, but I thought I was the pug’s tail.
2:13 pm on August 8th, 2012
Stover, Randy Travis is country singer who had a lot of hit songs in years gone by. He is a true country singer…not pop.
He lived for many years in NM.
Rebeccca, That was a cute picture of my kid sister, Belle Starr, a couple of nights ago. Which dog is her dad?
2:28 pm on August 8th, 2012
C.Hobbit: The Pacific NW is a great place to live, but you might miss the harsh winters (smile). No mosquitoes – a big plus.
Folks who move here are advised to think in “layers” as the temps can change throughout the day.
Now east of the Cascades it is quite a different story – very hot in the summer and cold/snowy in the winter.
2:42 pm on August 8th, 2012
CHobbit – We have East Coast mountains that we ski on. In the summer I sail on Lake Erie – the best fresh water sailing in the world.
3:09 pm on August 8th, 2012
Thanks everyone. I am noting locations and getting on the internet to explore. This winter will be the deciding factor of staying/going or being a “snowbird.”
Off to Fairbanks to go to the fair for a couple of hours. I don’t do rides or food but visit all the arts/crafts booths, the commercial products building (I am a sucker for demonstrations) and, of course, the bunnies. Someday I might have a bunny in my life–has anyone ever had one (hmm, let me clarify– I mean a live bunny, not for dinner)?
3:19 pm on August 8th, 2012
Staff, I hope Mr. Staff didn’t burn his bunny slippers again.
4:03 pm on August 8th, 2012
We like bunnies, too, C.Hobbit.{queue the evil laughter}
4:21 pm on August 8th, 2012
Did someone say bunnies. There was a herd, or is it a flock of free hopping bunnies along one of our training routes. We had never seen anything like it before. Can you believe our good fortune? It was like an all you can eat buffet. AJ tried to steer us away from the bunnies, but we wanted to go back for seconds.
4:36 pm on August 8th, 2012
Gah!…Bunny Buffet!…snort!…Not on my list of approved items to eat…grunt!
4:46 pm on August 8th, 2012
Rio: We hate to eat and run, but what are you going to do?
SiberH: We’ll answer your question about Belle Starr’s lineage while our mama is busy. Her father is Johnny. Mama will tell you he is all heart, but short legs. If you’ve seen the football movie, Rudy about the guy who wants to play for the team, but is too small, well, that is our Johnny. Mama says he takes two strides for each of our long-legged strides. Don’t let his small stature fool you. No. That Johnny is tough (and a sucker for belly rubs from mama).
4:59 pm on August 8th, 2012
C.Hobbit: Jan Steves is from here. Her claim to fame – the 2012 Red Lantern award. She has entered again for the 2013 Iditarod.
Siber-H: Did your Iditarod DVD arrive?
5:01 pm on August 8th, 2012
DVD! I’ve heard AJ is in this year’s DVD, but I don’t know that for certain.
5:03 pm on August 8th, 2012
Dear Niece Kat – Thanks for your concern and suggestion that I go back to gluten so I won’t have such a severe reaction. If I can avoid gluten, I’m totally fine, as you have seen.
My gluten eating had bad symptoms too that kept getting worse before I was diagnosed. Anemia, then dermatitis herpetiformis (an autoimmune skin blistering), then SPLORTING!
5:36 pm on August 8th, 2012
Thanks Pancho and Lefty.
Trigger, I haven’t ordered the Iditarod dvd yet because I know I won’t watch it until the Season of the Sled Dog begins. I will have the dvd to look forward to when baseball season ends. sniff
However, the baseball season has already ended for a certain team that shall remain nameless.
WOOhoo I hope AJ is in the dvd.
5:57 pm on August 8th, 2012
Rio, Bunnies are good – they taste like chicken! Yum.
I guess Barb is not really done at the Crazy Land yet. They want her to fill in for 4 hours Friday morning for an emergency. The “emergency” is the the high school summer girl has to have her Senior pictures taken. Evidently no one else can cover and Dog Forbid that Pat had to go sit and answer her own phones for 4 hours. Barb says the money will help pay for the new dog food she just ordered.
BTW, they said the food had just gone from $32 to $34 per bag, even though there is not one seed of corn in it! Go figure.
6:06 pm on August 8th, 2012
Macy’s min-pin mug up top and looking good!
I think I may give the DVD to AJ as part of his birthday present. And, (whiserping) if I happen to enjoy watching it, so much the better. 🙂
6:37 pm on August 8th, 2012
Goodness, searching for new places on the internet and bunnies.
The Pack would enjoy bunnies. They wouldn’t be able to catch them, but they would like to try!
6:50 pm on August 8th, 2012
Shoot far to heck! I just wrote something, but then Mom wanted to go back and check on when Chet’s kat story is being released, and she managed to lose everything I wrote! Sigh! Anyway, I’m only here for a few minutes cuz Mom has to go to a church council meeting. If it doesn’t last too long, I’ll be back!
Anyway, Mom finally figured out that the kat story is being released on the 14th. She pre-ordered it, so she has to remember to make sure her Nook is all juiced up and take it with her to work next Tuesday, because we don’t have wi-fi here. Sigh again!!! That means I won’t get to read it until she gets home — so she’ll probably have it all read before I even get to start it! Wait — isn’t that “Take Your Dog to Work Day”?
6:54 pm on August 8th, 2012
Melanie!…Instead of searching for Bunnies search for Buttons….grunt!
6:56 pm on August 8th, 2012
Sibers, one and all – HERD bunnies, repeat HERD – not “hurt”
(whispering – Silly Sibers)
Mama says she was the first one to invite CHobbit to come live in her area. Everyone else has to just wait their turn. Can’t you just imagine – CHobbit hopping all over Plunderland for the winter.
Major score at Salvation Army today – two shirts from a very pricey womens’ store, and a suede sports coat for Dad – all brand new with tags, each one $4.00!! Woo hoo! Now who can’t love that kind of shopping?
CHobbit – Mama loves fairs too. Their next show is at one of the biggest county fairs in the area – Dutchess County, NY. It is going to be a tough show – 5 days long, each day 12 hours long. But they are hoping that there will be lots of people like you who go to see the arts and crafts booths.
7:05 pm on August 8th, 2012
T&G You two are cute Corgies, but us Sibers have never herded anything in our lives. We don’t do herding.
7:46 pm on August 8th, 2012
Buddy up top!
T&G, what town in Dutchess County is the fair being held?
Rio, I just now finished the ARC!
7:55 pm on August 8th, 2012
CHH: Could be a nomad visiting Plunderers both near and far.
7:57 pm on August 8th, 2012
Wose: Are there lightening bolts on the horizon? We can be there at a moments notice. If you’re open to it, I can come early. All this hammering by the Bearded one and my two legged mama is getting in the way of my nap time.
8:03 pm on August 8th, 2012
Belle Starr, no lightning bolts until next Friday. Can you come over and play? We can have a sleep-over pajama party. The Prof is not handy, so there is never any hammering done around here.
8:11 pm on August 8th, 2012
Belle Starr, will that cabin the Bearded one and your two-legged building be yours someday?
8:14 pm on August 8th, 2012
I’m hot and tired, so off to AC and our nice big bed. Good night all!
Good day, Liz!
8:15 pm on August 8th, 2012
CHobbit!…You could come visit us. My friend says there is nothing but work!work!work to do around here, so you might not have that great of time…snort!sneeze!
Chilis!….One of the chili plants had to be pulled out this morning. There didn’t seem to be a whole lot of roots on that big plant…grunt!…We are wondering what kind of varmit digs underground and eats chili plant roots…grump!…Hope whatever it is doesn’t branch out and attack our other really healthy plants that are chalk full of peppers….sniff!
8:19 pm on August 8th, 2012
Wose – Dutches County Fair is in Rhinebeck. Any chance that is a reasonable road trip for you?
Rio – we keep telling you – it’s chili-eating bats.
Siber – would you be willing to TRY herding?
We gotta get back to watching Mama work. See ya all tomorrow.
8:40 pm on August 8th, 2012
Bats!….We don’t have bats here…sniff!… We don’t have any buttons either…grunt!
8:56 pm on August 8th, 2012
Walk!…Its too hot for us to go walk, but my friend says she is going to go for one without us…snort!…Fine by me!…heh!
9:08 pm on August 8th, 2012
We are down to the final week before closing.
A friend came over today with Grace, her Englisn Shepherd. They brought lunch and we played. A brief escape from the packing ordeal.
Now we are tired. Be back tomorrow. Night All.
9:28 pm on August 8th, 2012
T&G, NO
9:31 pm on August 8th, 2012
T&G, we herd horses all the tome. They pretend to ignore us, but nobody gets out of line.
We all had a BIG birthday party for Dima tomight! He went to Joe Paws Pet Bakery today (thats the place where Kat got the cake she brought to Mass. last month. Dima picked out pizza, liver snappies, and cupcakes for all of us, and then we sang to him. That Dima is a jolly good fellow.
9:45 pm on August 8th, 2012
Dima: The team is howling happy birthday to you!
9:54 pm on August 8th, 2012
Dima: Happy Birthday! Have a howling good time.
10:04 pm on August 8th, 2012
Happy Birthday Dima! Siber girls, Dima should get to eat most of the cake.
10:22 pm on August 8th, 2012
Cake!…It’s a well known fact that if it is your birthday you get the whole cake and nothing but the cake…snort!…So help me dawg!…heh!burp!
10:26 pm on August 8th, 2012
Rockies!…Lets go see what the Rockies are doing tonight…snuff!…YEEEP!…They are ahead by 2!….wooooo!

10:46 pm on August 8th, 2012
Happy (hic) Birfday Dima (hic)
Since Ah couldn’t git there to (hic) have schum birfday cake with y’all, Ah chelebrated by myself (hic) with that wunnerful moonshine cake that Miz Macy whipped up. That lil ole gal can shure cook.

10:46 pm on August 8th, 2012
Rio: You mean Meathead? I don’t think so. Did he write a book? Because those are the kinds of autographs we have around here (except Bill Murray’s, because Dad found an autographed script from “Groundhog Day,” which is one of Mom’s favorite movies). Mom’s getting ready to go back to the book festival in Georgia again, even though Spence (or Admin!) won’t be there this time. She’ll get lots more autographs then!
10:48 pm on August 8th, 2012
Rio, I am watching some of the Rockies game before I fall asleep. These late games are murder.
Beach Volleyball is not my thing and I didn’t know they had any beaches in London.
10:49 pm on August 8th, 2012
Dima: I just saw — Happy Birthday! Eat plenty of cake, but forget about those candles. Wax just isn’t tasty, and it makes your mouth feel funny! When we had our pet flying squirrel, he used to eat all the colored wax off the candles in the living room, and just leave the plain wax that was in the middle. I never did get that — crazy squirrel! But then, that goes without saying!!!
10:54 pm on August 8th, 2012
Happy Birthday Dima.
Warning!!! Warning!!! the following cake may be scary!!!!!

11:02 pm on August 8th, 2012
Kirby!…I thought you guys collected all kinds of autographs…heh!…Our announcers called him Meathead too…snort!
11:07 pm on August 8th, 2012
Cake!….I want some of Redbone Hounds cake…snort!…But it sounds like and smells like he ate it all up!…grunt!
11:18 pm on August 8th, 2012
lol Where does Macy find these cakes.
We can go on no longer. Mmom is taking me outside and we are turning in.
Night All
GO ROCKIES!!! You guys can win this game tonight!
