A Well-Earned Rest: Back At Snowhook Kennel

“AJ and Rebecca are back home,” Spence says. “There’s something so domestically happy about this last report of hers:”

Despite fatigue and exhaustion that creeps up and grabs hold of us in those still moments, once we arrived home we changed into our yard clothes and headed to the dog yard.  Loves, tail wags, tummies, licks, ear scratches, hugs and fresh straw were given.  The dogs returning from the trail have been resting since arriving home on Saturday.  Each has fairly good weight on them, have healthy appetites and their normal attitudes.  This is good, this is what we want.

Welcome Rocky.

Good morning, y’all! Good morning, Rebecca and AJ! I hope you two are sleeping in today — you deserve it! But it sounds like the team is ready to go — when’s the next race?

I’m living in pea soup this morning. The snow still on the ski trails has met the warm air and made heavy fog. I can barely see out.

    Good Morning All!

It is foggy here in Westchester today as well. But it is the first day of spring, and we’re looking at another 70 degree day.

Welcome home AJ, Rebecca and doggies!!!!

(heard by evening bark by the Pack, straight from Willow) They’re back! They’re back! They’re back! They’re back! They’re back! They’re back! They’re back! They’re back! They’re back! They’re back! They’re back! They’re back! They’re back!

BTW, by the end of the week (where we are going to hit 80 degrees) we will have reached the warmest March in the records. Part of the problem is a Bermuda High that has parked itself over us. We don’t usually get Bermuda High’s until late July and August. Our usual weather in March? Snow storms, melting snow pack to about 1 foot high. THERE’S NO SNOW!

Yikes … Might have to live in the basement this summer. Too bad it has a dirt floor.

We had the “pea soup” yesterday. Today it’s going to 81. That is just too hot for March.

    Good morning all.

I’m hoping that the East Coast will not have to endure a summer like our friends in the mid-west and south had to last year. I hate the heat and humidity, and my hair doesn’t like it much either.

Good morning all. It is very foggy and cloudy here also. But it is wam! It was 61 at 6:00 am when we awoke after oversleeping for one hour! This day is not starting out well.

Did AJ and Rebecca get to read our ideas for selling the Iditarod story as a way to raise funds? We love the idea of interspersing with the evening prayer for each part of the trail. And another idea is to include a few choice snippets from our blog posts that were occurring simultaneously.

OH: I’m loving all these ideas! These items could definitely rake in beaucoup bucks, along with CHarris pictures! Maybe AJ and Rebecca would consider blowing up the welcome home kiss picture and autographing it!!!! 🙂

Morning, Plunderpack. I’m still holding down the fort here ’cause mom is sick, sick, sick. She’s got a crappy cold. So happy that the Snowhook pack is home and healthy. Rest well, team.

Aww Jasper – sorry to hear that your Mom is sick – be sure to snuggle up real close. We havealso heard that a good game of tug is good medicine for a cold.

Glad Rebecca and AJ are back home with their dogs – and we’re sure the dogs are pretty happy about it too. We saw that Anchorage is buried under constant snow storms – hope all is ok in Willow, and no moose on the roof.

The Snowhook dogs looked very good at the finish line. Glad all of Snowhook is safely home and can rest now.

Since it is so unseasonabley warm for those of you back East, our weather today is a cold, windy, and sunny. We seem to have the opposite weather from what you are having at any given time.

Jasper, help your mom take care of the cold and we hope she gets to feeling better soon.

First Welcome Home to our Wonderful Team Snowhook. You did us Proud.

O.Howlers: Thank you for checking back to find that frame on the video. But now there is another problem…we can’t find the Conway Seavey video. Gah!

First day of Spring you say? Yark! It’s in the low 40’s here.

Jasper: Hope your mom gets over that nasty bug very soon.

SiberH — My dad has just started reading The Art of Fielding to get ready for the baseball season. I think you had recommended it previously. It is quite good so far.
Jasper — take extra good care of your mom.
We had extra severe thunderstorms early this morning, so I woke up both mom and dad to make sure that they weren’t scared at all.

I haven’t read the Art of Fielding yet, so Wookie and Rose can let me know if they like it, please.
It was Stover who first brought the book to my attention.

We haven’t seen the Golden Harness video, but we will. Shall I say that we got behind on getting everyday stuff done during the Iditarod.

ok youse baseball guys – question for you.
Are there still peanut sellers going up and down the aisles at the stadiums?
We wondered because of all the hype about peanut allergies and we also wondered if in this day and age the peanut guys might throw a bag and have a hard time being assured that they would get their money.

Seriously – we were talking about this last night

  33. Siber-H
    12:33 pm on March 20th, 2012

Rio will have to answer that. I do not have a Major League Baseball team here and I am not going to an Isotopes game…farm team of the Dodgers. We do not eat peanuts at home while watching the games.
    That is a good question.

  34. Barb & Maggie
    12:34 pm on March 20th, 2012

No matter what Rose and Wookie say, we will NOT be reading The Art of Fielding here! And you can take that to the bank!

Wookie, Glad you are taking care of Mom and Dad. Sometimes grownups get really scared of storms!

  35. Rose
    12:52 pm on March 20th, 2012

T&G: I would not know the answer to that. Rio’s friend is going to a baseball game, maybe Rio will have the answer.

SiberH: I’ve read about 40 pages, and I love it!

B&M: Something about this book tells me it will be deeper than just baseball……

    Wookie: You’re opinion so far?

Rose: Manning’s move was a surprise here.
Poor Tebow…only 15 minutes of fame?

Well. As Rio says…it is time to move on…to Baseball!!!
Speaking of which…it just wouldn’t be the same without peanuts and hot dogs (Hebrew Nationals of course) and beer and…..

  37. Riö – The Evil Pug

Peanuts!…Sure, I’ve seen peanuts being sold at the games…grunt!…We never buy them because there are so many other things we want to spend our money on…chuffle!…Namely Beer. Beer and Hebrew National foot-long hotdogs…slurp!…And don’t forget the best French Fries anywhere are at the Rockies Baseball park…wheeze!…They are to die!die!die! for I tell youse!…heh!

Tebow!…Don’t worry about Tim, he will always be “the story” where ever he goes…snort!…I’m sure he will do very well in all his endeavors. Maybe not as a starting quarterback on an NFL team, but he will go on to do amazing things nonetheless…wooooo!

  40. Wookie of Chevy Chase
    2:26 pm on March 20th, 2012

Rose. We have only read the first 60/70 pages so far (I’m helping my dad read, so we are both doing it together), but you are definitely right here, there will be a whole lot more going on here besides baseball before the book finishes. Baseball and fielding as a metaphor for a whole bunches of other stuff. The book strikes us as a bit reminiscent of The World According to Garp in some ways, plus that this is the first novel by the author (Chad Harbuch), and Garp was John Irving’s first novel as well. It doesn’t seem like there is enough sleep to be found today. We slept in and I took a nap, yet still feel exhausted. Sleep deprivation takes a lot of you; if it’s anything like last year, it will be April before we feel human again.

It seems while I’ve been slumbering, youse have been plotting and planning fund raising ideas. 😉

Jasper: Take care of your mom and help her get some rest.
