Glittering. It reminds me of the view that helped me make that sparkly haiku the other day. The haiku I have forgotten. Something about diamonds…

Maybe I should start writing those haikus down somewhere…

I’m looking forward to the next episode right now.

We had beautiful hoar frost last week and I tried to get some pictures but none of them did justice to the sparkling beauty.

Here are the moccasins I had to choose from the other day. Only one pair fit. The one without fur inside and, yes, I did buy them.

    Good morning everyone.
We are currently on hold with a government agency. This could take 5 to 6 hours….or days….

The pictures of the frost are beautiful. And that is just the way we like to see snow and frost – from a safe distance.
The moccasins are lovely – having only one pair fit may have been a good thing. Otherwise, decisions could have been mind bending.

And we are happy to report that HRH Tuppence seems to be doing well. We are indeed doing physical therapy which consists of belly rubs, back massages, and pulling on toes. The last part she isn’t particularly fond of, but if it means she is being held in a lap for the procedure, she is willing to accommodate it.

oops – the government has picked up….woo hoooooo!

I have two questions for those who read All The Light We Cannot See. What does the “light” of the title refer to? Where is the Sea of Flames diamond and who put it there? (I may have an answer to the second question but to the first I have an opinion only.)

    Okay Rio.

One thing that really irritated me about the novel is the “time line.” His editor probably told him to arrange it out of order to be “clever.” However, I think the story would have had a much more dramatic buildup if the narration had been chronological. As it is, I was jarred out of the story every time there was a shift in the sequence of events. Some of the writing is beautiful.

Interesting happenstance – tomorrow we are driving Gramp to a faraway funeral for one of his contemporaries. We spoke to the son the other day, and he said the funeral was delayed until his brother flew in from Embarrass, Minnesota where he and his wife moved to pursue their dream of dog mushing.
They did Iditarod years ago, but now mostly run in the lower 48 races.
We are looking forward to talking to them – even though it will be a sad time for gathering.

BStover: I do not know the meaning of the title but here is an opinion on that. I did have an opinion on what happened to the Sea of Flames diamond when I finished reading the book but I can’t remember now what it was. I do agree that it would have been better in chronological order – that going back and forth was just annoying and did not improve the story.

    I’m exhausted tonight.
A sweetheart followed me home today. I enlisted the neighbor’s help in putting her picture on facebook and got a call within minutes though not before she ate all the cat food and got a swat on her ear from one of the cats and bled all over the place. I had to carry her up and down the stairs because she was unfamiliar with them. The weight training came in handy, oof!

    Spoiler alert!

Dawson: I think that Werner went to the grotto after Marie-Laure put the diamond, which was still in the little wooden house her father made, in the ocean. She gave him the key immediately afterwards. (Another question–Why did she give him the key? That’s a real question.) He took the diamond out of the house and put it in the ocean and then put the key in the house. (I think that the diamond is shown to be in the ocean on page 520.) I think that the “light” referred to in the title has something to do with understanding or empathy. We don’t “see” it because life is based on selfishness rather than altruism. This is what causes conflict and war. (Page 84 when Siedler tells Werner, “We act in our own self- interest…Name me a person or a nation who does not.” There is also the incident on page 368: “…they move about with only themselves in mind. Name me someone who does not.”)

Tupper’s Mama: Yes. A Newfie lab cross. Wore me right out. Her mama came and got her pronto.

BStover: Yes, that is what I remember about the diamond, now that you mention it. Your explanation of the meaning of “light” in the title is better than the one in the link I posted. The key question? I do not think I reasoned that question out.

And now, my brain has exploded and I’m off to my warm bed with pillows for all my parts. I have an early start tomorrow. I will dream of sweet Newfoundland puppies snuggling up with me.

    Riõ: SPOILER ALERT. Snort.

B: Must admit we felt the same way at first, but grew accustomed to his style of writing as we read on. The book is long, but the chapters are short. It was easy to read and the writing is indeed beautiful. As to your earlier question…Marie-Laure comes to a realization on page 160 regarding fear and the light: “This is the basis of his fear, all fear. That a light you are powerless to stop will turn on you and usher a bullet to its mark.” Whether or not this pertains to the title, I cannot say…nor do I agree. I consider the light to be all the good things we are unaware of…cannot see. The part describing the fate of the Sea of Flames struck me as being oddly placed. It would have made a better ending.

A friend of mine just told me how her job, which she loved, ended. The company she worked for (25 years) was bought out by another bigger company and she did not fit well in the corporate world. They offered her a buy out but she didn’t want to leave her friends in the lurch so she soldiered on. About a 1-1/2 years later she gave up and retired/quit with no severance.

So take it and run baby run!
