Catching up on last night’s blog, i know a new Giant sled got past some of youse. It was kind of hidden in my post of 3/23 when I mentioned that Snowhook really needed some new things. One was the sled. The sled is completely funded…there may have been some Plunderers involved….

I would also like to say the “Clothe the Giant” fund has reached the halfway point of $500 due to a donation by the Howlers and their ‘rents.

    Thanks again for your donations!

Oh My Dawg! We went back to catch up on last night’s posts and they are a Hoot and a Holler!

Five, Count ’em Five posts trying to get past the Moderator! Alice and Staff dropping and substituting suspected words to no avail while Abbie sits smirking in the background.

MollyPop’s Mom tries and fails to Upload Spring.

And the On-going Saga of Foxes(Sibes) plotting how to get into the hen house.

Then to top it all off…Wookie’s Mom posts the hilarious French video.

Good morning, all. Mom sent Spence that link because it reminds her of the extremes Misha and Sasha would have gone to to be together. They refused to be separated. ah. True love 3>

We are gobsmacked about that new sled. We wanted AJ to have a new sled very much, but we can’t believe how fast that came about. Woo Hoo! Now here is our question: is this a replacement sled for the broken one? Or is this a true 2nd sled which he can stash at McGrath or another checkpoint to be able to switch to when he gets there?

  12. O'Howlers

Rose, we think that is the lightweight sort of sled that some of the mushers had available for them before going over the sea ice and on to Nome. But hopefully Siber-H will know for sure.

I remember one of the women mushers changing to an ice sled, but when I asked the Committee what that was, I did not receive an answer.

At long last, we have a window open for spring! The Wrotten Kats are in their glory, sprawled on the dining room table, noses glued to the screen, inhaling great gulps of sun-tinged, warm(ish) air with just a hint of crocus and daffodil.
Praying that this is just a precursor of days to come.

  18. O'Howlers

We’ve been sprawled out outdoors enjoying the sunshine. Although Kat is now inside re-enjoying the nice comfortable Big Bed. We have no screens up yet. And the poor horses are stuck indoors waiting for the v-e-t to come give Spring shots. We don’t know what time he is coming.

According to Farmer’s Almanac, one of the names given to March’s full moon (out tonight) is the “Worm Moon.” As temperatures get warmer, earthworms leave castings on the ground surface and these attract robins. (A reason for those sixteen robins in my garden a few weeks ago?)

  25. Siber-H

Just like the Howlers, I am guessing the new sled is for the coast and then the journey to Nome.
A big thank you to the plunderers that donated to the sled.

Well, the clouds are now drifting in and the window will have to be closed. But the whole front lawn in now visible again. Brown – but visible. The bears will be starting to move around pretty soon, so we will have to get the bird feeders in before long. Especially the suet block that hangs outside the dining room window – remember the bear that rang the doorbell last year as she got that birdfeeder down?….
And we saw a bald eagle the other day. How cool is it that they are making a big enough recovery so as to be seen in semi-urban areas. This one was gliding and soaring over a bend in our local salt water river. It was low enough that we could see individual tail feathers. And BIG! My stars, they are BIG!

  27. B. Stover

Worm moon just does not have the romantic ring of Wolf Moon, Snow Moon, Harvest Moon, et al. Still a full moon is a thing of beauty (and good hunting).

MPM lives in what looks like the most fun place in the lower 48!

The ‘rents told us they get to see eagles when riding horses in Green Lane. Poor us. We never get to go.

Barb, we got our chicken book! We checked out the breeds we are getting. They were all there except Americaunas, which we suspect are the same as Aracaunas which were there. It is a beautiful book. Thanks for the suggestion.

I am in the people house. 🙁

I took the brownies out of the oven. The Pack came up to the kitchen gate. Soulful eyes took their tole.

I took out a carrot and cut it into slices. They thought they were getting brownies. Let us just say . .

    Carrot in mouth
    Carrot dropped from mouth
    Carrot rolled around the floor
    Carrot sniffing
    Carrot tasting
The only reason that 4 of them ate their carrot bits? Because they thought the others wanted them.

    They are eyeing the brownies.

Oleys, glad you like that book. It does have beautiful pictures, doesn’t it? You are right – the Americaunas are just the North American breeding of the South American Aracaunas. Look the same and are sometimes called Easter eggers.

Melanie, Melanie, Melanie – shaking head sadly (and giggling at the same time)

Howlers – OH NO!!! Our Gramp got a sale flyer from Tractor Supply that has all kinds of specials for raising chickens. Coops, feed, baby chicks etc. He keeps looking at the flyer, with that “Gramp is thinking” kind of look in his eye. This is NOT a good look. One time he had that look, we came home from a road trip to find we had no bathroom. He had decided to replace fixtures, and then realized it was beyond his expertise.
Another time, we came home and found he had junked our wonderful, fabulous, beloved range with two ovens, six burners and a grill top and replaced it with what we called the “easy bake oven”, designed for Barbie’s Malibu Beach House.

We are waiting for him to leave the room, and we are going to burn that flyer.

Sorry, I am stress eating ALL the treats–although I did throw away the remaining dark chocolate nuts as they were making me sick. However, if I get desperate, I wouldn’t put it past myself to dig them out of the trash. I can guarantee that I won’t wiggle as I have a fear of heights and will be paralyzed. A fear of heights might lead to bathroom problems. Hmmm, I think it best for me not to blur but thanks for the offer.

BSD, You are running short of time to do taxes, only a little over two weeks left. Barb got a call from her accountant today. She is actually getting $$ back this time, because she had to send in estimated taxes based on 2011 income. In 2012 she worked at the Crazy Land for only half the year, so income was down. Yea, we’ll get enough back to pay for the first estimate due April 15th. Wait a minute, that isn’t very exciting!

  55. c.hobbit

Barb & Maggie: good for you! I’ve been filing an extension on my taxes each year for a few years now. It is so funny, they ask you to estimate your taxes and send the money if you owe something. If I knew what I owed, I’d be doing my taxes on time in the first place. Duh. Usually I just write a check for a couple of thousand and send it in with my extension paperwork. If it turns out that I am to get a refund, I roll the refund into next year’s taxes.

Staff, We do a very simple rendition of your roasted lemon chicken, but it is very good. Barb takes boneless, skinless chicken breast or chicken tenders, drizzles with olive oil, shakes on some Italian seasoning then bakes for 20 minutes or so. Then she squeezes fresh lemon juice on and serves with rice, pasta or roasted potatoes, and a green veggie. Delish and so easy. The lemon juice (must be fresh) really compliments chicken.

Actually there were 4 main reasons the settlers left England to come to America.
Religious freedom, the desire for wealth, land ownership and the menace of war in Europe.
The problem with taxation began over here.

Whidbey Island is our neighbor to the west. The cause for the landslide is unknown.
Thank you all for your concern. We are in no danger here.

My dear Rose, have no fear, not only will the Creator be watching over you, but the Smoochers will be at your side as always.

Barb went to Menards today (a big box store) and ordered her lumber for the raised gardens. There will be two of them 5’x12′, and constructed of a 2×10 and 2×12 high. So they will be 22″ high and 60 square feet each. One will be tomatoes and the other salad type things and green beans. $200 for the boards. Yikes! But it only one time and then done. Next will be construction and dirt.

I hope Belle Starr will be there with her sparkly fire extinguisher, and that my mama Luna will be there to supervise, but I understand if they can’t be there. It means they are taking very good care of Rebecca.

Melanie, I agree. No sparkly things on my belly either. Snicker.

Dawson, I assume you have been talking to my friend Greg?

CHobbit. That is the pits. I was feeling sorry for myself when I had 3 flat tires in one month. sniff. Now I am not.

Yes, I was at the eye specialist with Dad yesterday.

Snow is melting here. Maybe it will all be gone before Dawson arrives. Maybe. 2 more weeks.

Rose, I will tell you what The Raven told me when I went into surgery.
    “Have a wonderful time!”

Hmm. . I’m beginning to see where I get my strange sense of humor.

Having fair skin (those Celtic genes) and being of an age where you went out and burned so you wouldn’t burn all summer, I will be asking my doc about a couple of spots. Now if it’s timed right, I should be looking weird for my birthday. This will make seven years in a row that something has happened to make me look not my best on my birthday.

Those that stand out . . went into the attic and discovered I get contact dermatitis from pink insulation and another year getting two black eyes from acupuncture.

Jeez Louise, any one want to switch birthdays with me?

Melanie, When we posted about Mom’s shopping travails earlier we were typing while you were posting about your dress. Was it one of the ones you showed us? They were great-looking. This is making Mom very worried about trying to find a dress online. Not worried enough to try to figure out a store that sells clothes for her though.

My Two-legged is going to call her two-legged about tomorrow. If I understand correctly my grand-two-legged is having her limp nose removed tomorrow. I’m not sure what they will replace it with, but my vote is for a snout like mine. Ask Wose, it is perfect. Maybe my Two-legged will tell her mama to have a wonderful time just like the Raven told Melanie.

Abbie and Melanie: You don’t know what you’re missing with having a belly free of sparkles. Worst case, it is a great conversation starter.

Melanie: Maybe Rio’s friend will trade birtdays with you.

I just got off the phone with my Bev. She is scared, but trying to stay positive. I read the comments from some of you and she said thank you for thinking of her and lifting her spirits. She will be in the hospital overnight and off work for at least a couple of weeks. Coach is taking very good care of her.

O’Howlers: I’m impressed that you do your own taxes. I need a speshalisst.

Staff: Your friend Greg says I may owe a small fortune in taxes even though I made tons less in wages! Some gobbledy gook about the severance from work and the piddlely pension being money I didn’t actually work to acquire.

I can always remember Rio’s birthday because it is the day you have to have your taxes done (unless you pull a CHobbit and file an extension).

Rose: I know you will be well-cared for on Good Friday.

Ok – we have to go to bed early to if hit cuz Mama is another one who is in surgery tomorrow. Seems the big white thingie didn’t do it’s magic and her bum flipper is still really painful and now her thumb doesn’t work.
But the bum flipper doc swears he can fix her right up by doing some icky stuff inside her arm. Yuck.
So she will be home by noon, and she has already placed her order for Chinese take out for dinner.

She can’t wait to see the costumes on the dancing giraffes. She will check the audience and see if she can find Bev so they can sit together. Maybe Bella will be there too.

I just went virtual shopping for a camera update. I discovered I’m going to take extremely good care of my 11 year old camera.

I did find a lens that I liked. Over two thousand dollars just for the lens! When I win that lottery, new cameras and lenses to go to the Iditarod!

About the virtual clothes shopping. I think I’m going to wear the dress I wore to OTAS and GLAD’s wedding. With a different jacket thingy over it. I saw one I liked. Too bad I can’t remember the site.

OH’s Mum, did you try the National Geographic site? That’s where Zoe got her matching top and skirt. Quite pretty.
