A Real Bad Racket
“Here’s something we know a bit about, Chet,” Bernie says, reading the paper. “Apparently this perp named Roberto Sol Cabrera was arrested at the Mexico City airport hiding 18 small monkeys in his clothing. Titi monkeys – an endangered species from South America – and two were already dead. All the monkeys were rolled up in socks and slung on a belt.” Bernie’s face got hard; that doesn’t happen often.
“Adrian Reuter, local representative for Traffic – an international organization that monitors wildlife trade – said animal trafficking is a serious problem in Mexico. Mexico, he said, is an important route for animal smuggling into the U.S.”
Bernie looks up. “We learned all about that racket, didn’t we, big guy?”
Hey! I remember. Down Mexico way! And that baboon! If I never see another baboon that will be just fine. I think he’s in To Fetch A Thief, unless I forgot to mention him.
Everyone here wishes Staff a speedy recovery. As for the quilt idea, we’re very very appreciative.

I'm here first because I wanted to check on staff. Thanks Dawson. It is such good news!!! We are wishing her a speedy recovery, and she is in our prayers. We love her.
Beautiful, beautiful prayer, last night, Rio. I'm thankful you are able to express what we feel.
I'll be back later.

The blog bug is back.
5:00 am on July 20th, 2010
Elephants and baboons….TFAT sounds more and more interesting. I can't wait! But, of course, I have to.
I hope that staff is doing well.
5:02 am on July 20th, 2010
Sorry Mike Baker…but the blog bug is back. (I didn't really intend that alliteration…but I like it.)
5:06 am on July 20th, 2010
SH: We alliterated in sync.
5:06 am on July 20th, 2010
Ugh!… I wish we could round up all the bad perps in the world and make them wander in the desert for the rest of their miserable lives …snort!… It makes me furious to know how badly the weak and innocent are treated by the scum of the earth….grunt!
Sob!… Staff is on her way to recovering! … yip!yip! hurray! … I think my friend made herself sick from worrying about her… snort!… Or she has a bug (different from the Blog Bug). She is home with me today and not looking well at all…sneeze!…She has a bad stomach ache and a nasty headache…grunt!… Uh uh, there she goes back to bed, but I think just knowing Staff is doing well will help her a lot….wheeze!
5:13 am on July 20th, 2010
Hurrah for STAFF!
5:13 am on July 20th, 2010
Rio, We wish your friend well. I agree, we have been worrying about staff also.
5:25 am on July 20th, 2010
About Chet's post: My mom is passionately against trying to keep wild animals as pets. They are not genetically programed to be pets; they are suppose to live in the wild. It is the animals mom is thinking of and not the humans that are trying to domesticate them.
At every adoption event with Husky Rescue, someone will come up to mom and say, "I'm going to get a wolf". Mom would like to slap them silly, but she takes the nicey, nice route. She is thinking of the wolf's welfare. We have a wopnderful wolf sanctuary in NM that takes in the wolves that people thought they could make pets out of.
Okay, this time I'll really be back later.
5:29 am on July 20th, 2010
I don't like zoos for what I think of as similar reasons.
6:20 am on July 20th, 2010
We agree on the zoo thing, Stover, and the same goes for circus animals.
Vancouver is beautiful!
Mom is still at the house, so my computer is still turned on. We don't know how our schedule is going to go today.
6:36 am on July 20th, 2010
Morning Nation!
Glad for better news from Staff, and best thoughts for all of those facing adversity.
To quote a "famous" author, I'm skipping, I'm skipping, Rangers win in the 14 inning. Sorry about those Colorado guys. *smirk* No, that is not nice and I am trying to be nice. The only way the Rockies are a threat to us is if we all make it to the Series.*hope hope*
7:05 am on July 20th, 2010
Siber-H – How are you doing with the email? Don't give up because you're almost there! You already do the email so it's just an attachment.
7:12 am on July 20th, 2010
Molly, the guy that is going to help me with it is suppose to be on his way to my house now. I hope it will be soon.
7:15 am on July 20th, 2010
Macy, I am rooting for the Rangers. They are my neighbors to the east and a different league than the Rockies, so I figure I can root for both teams.
7:29 am on July 20th, 2010
Rio's prayer was so beautiful that it made us cry. Thanks for expressing those thoughts for all of us. Glad Staff is doing ok. We all send our best to her.
Bee, Barb was glancing through Red Book mag, and there was an article titled (or entitled) "Your Red-Hot Summer Read". I think you are outnumbered!

SH: You are BEAUTIFUL!!
8:06 am on July 20th, 2010
At long last, Siber H!!!!! Hey, budy, you need to share a few of those toys. I think I see a fox on top that has my name on it. And by the way, you have great eyes, you handsome guy.
Siber's mom, did you figure out that you click on the little paper clip thingy to add an attachment? It's easy after you do it a few times.
8:11 am on July 20th, 2010
Checking bug. Also, did Vancouver Canada come up? PA's brothers swam the Bay Challenge on Sunday, a 10K ocean race, and came 6th overall.
8:13 am on July 20th, 2010
Wow! How great to see SiberH!!! What a handsome husky. We haven't had time to read everyone's posts…what happened to Staff? Are Abbiethekat and Alice Johnson taking care of her?
8:29 am on July 20th, 2010
Thank you Molly!! You are a genius!
Maggie, once our friend showed us how to click on the paper clip thing to add an attachment, my mom realized how easy that part of it is. I would share my toys with you, Maggie. You are a great rat getter. I bet you scared the rest of them into the next county.
Gus and Boo Bear, Staff had a kidney transplant yesterday evening. It went well. We are all very happy for her and wishing her a speedy recovery. She will be in the hospital for around 5 days.
8:30 am on July 20th, 2010
I still have the blog bug.

Ho my, now it uploaded 3 times, sorry guys!
8:57 am on July 20th, 2010
I meant Oh my. Congrats to PA's brothers for the great race.
9:07 am on July 20th, 2010
SiberH — you are one handsome dude. My mom has already done a test run on downloading the photos (and it worked just fine). She really likes the one of you with the toys in the background and asked me to ask you if that is the one you would like used for your quilt block. Wookie
9:20 am on July 20th, 2010
SiberH – lookin' good, buddy. Your eyes are even blu-er than mine!
9:40 am on July 20th, 2010
I think that SH's eyes are as mesmerizing as Alice Johnson's eyes.
Way to go PA's brothers. In a bay requires hard swimming.
I'm embroidering my initial on my quilt square.
9:55 am on July 20th, 2010
Yawn!… oh my, she is going to try and make some soup and then try and eat it…heh!…Should be interesting… snort! … What’s this???…SiberH!… Finally I know what you look like!… Wow! Check out his mascara everybody! …grunt!… Nice look on you pal.
Molly!…What did you change on the photos to get them to upload?…snort!
Chet!… Tell the Charming Mr. Abrahams to tell his brothers congratulations on such a Huge accomplishment!… wheeze!… I wonder how many brothers he has anyway? ….grunt! …Apparently they can swim better than he can – didn’t he almost drown once?…shudder!
10:01 am on July 20th, 2010
Thank you Wookie!!! I'll go with whatever photo you think is best. You are another one of our geniuses. Mom would be lost without some of the blog team helping her.
Thank you all for your nice comments.
Embroidering is a good idea. ummm My mom can't do that.
11:11 am on July 20th, 2010
To Fetch a Thief – TFAT – the release date is almost within sight.
Hope Lexi shows up today. And Dan had good dreams last night. And Wolfie’s boys see the light (or at least a glimmer). And that Rio’s friend feels better soon. And that Staff isn’t too sore when she wakes up this morning (that’s gotta hurt). So far no updates this morning.
Vancouver this afternoon – the ocean tomorrow. Yippee!
10:12 am on July 20th, 2010
Wookie – What does your Mom need for the quilt block? Can I buy fabric, sign my name, and then send it to you? If so, do I get a plain white fabric? Does your Mom print directly on the fabric we send or something that then gets attached?
10:45 am on July 20th, 2010
Siber-H – Oh golly. I didn't see when picture #3 came in my email. I just noticed it now.
You look so adorable curled up with all your toys.

10:46 am on July 20th, 2010
Whew, Congrats to PA'SBro! Cool.
I still have to read the rest of yesterday's and most of todays.
Been busy in the sun, putting up shade in the puppy play yard. As soon as I got it up, we got clouds.
So here's Miss Pink or Miss Pink/White trying to decided to be in or out.

Except that it isn't, that's Someone pulling on someone else's tail.
(By the way Siber-H, you are very handsome and I would not touch your toy pile.)

10:53 am on July 20th, 2010
Rio – The pictures probably needed to be downsized. The one of Siber-H by the front door was 3.75 Meg and the other 2 were each over 2 Meg.
Those are the way Mom likes to take her pictures too, because the resolution is so good. Then if she emails a picture, she makes it much smaller.
The higher resolution is superb for printing, but not needed to view on the computer screen.
11:04 am on July 20th, 2010
Thanks for #3, Molly!
More PUPPY pictures! They have grown since the party!
11:05 am on July 20th, 2010
SiberH!…That last photo is so You!…heh!… That one would look good as a quilt square by golly!…snort!
Puppies!…The puppies keep changing so rapidly its amazing!… grunt!… Miniture Newfs! To bad they don’t stay that size…cough!
11:24 am on July 20th, 2010
Rio, my mom says there is a very dirty toy in the foreground of that photo. She has since thrown that toy away. She thinks I don't know that she did that, but I know.
I'm agreeable to whatever photo the blog thinks is best for the quilt.
12:06 pm on July 20th, 2010
Melanie, your website says you have postponed people's visits with the puppies, of course for obvious reasons. My question is, are they ready to go to their new homes already? They're big but such babies!
12:47 pm on July 20th, 2010
Shelter!…. Just think our wonderful pal SiberH was left at a shelter by someone in the past… grunt!…I am so glad his gal rescued our good-looking guy… wheeze!… As was Wookie, our debonair special agent who is an all around good-fellow and pal, left in a shelter if my memory serves me correctly… snort!… Truly unbelievable.
12:56 pm on July 20th, 2010
I like the third picture the best also, SH.
Melanie: The pups are adorable, but I'm hoping that you sell them rather than having 22 dogs living with you. It just worries me.
12:57 pm on July 20th, 2010
MR. HUSKY, you are HOT. Or maybe that is just me. Phew..either way you can park your chew bone by my kennel ANY time.*eyelash batting*
Mom spent all after noon reading "The Last of the Dixie Heros". I think she needs a good excuse why she didn't get the laundry done. Anyone? She says she felt all the air going out of the room many times today while reading.
The puppies have a website? I would love to see more of them.
1:06 pm on July 20th, 2010
Stover!… How are your allergies my dear?…. snort! … I like the 3rd photo of SiberH the best, the one where his paws are crossed and he is guarding all his soft toys….chorkle!…If he uses this one his dirty toy will be remembered always by Admin, Spence, Chet and Bernie for posterity. Oh! I must not forget the Charming Mr. Abrahams himself staring at it day after day….heh!
Square!… My square is not coming along very well at all… sniff!…She refused to work on it at all today…crap!…She was home all day and did nothing at all on my square ….snort!…. I am getting anxious and want some kind of creative action to happen, but NO! NOTHING yet. I’m starting to truly believe she has no talent for Quilt Squares at all…sigh.
Bugs!… I think the Blog Bug is fixed and her bug is dying slowly…heh!
1:23 pm on July 20th, 2010
Thank you, Miss Macy
Wookie, the blog team may be voting on the #3 photo…dirty stuffed toy and all. Rio, does make a good point about that.
Macy, just click on Melanie's name to get to her website. It is a really neat website. If someone's name is in blue (except Stovers) on this blog, they have a website.
I'm glad your friend is feeling better, Rio. She didn't feel like working on your square today, but she will get it done. As you know, my mom is also a no talent. How did we end up like this, sigh
1:24 pm on July 20th, 2010
Bug!… The Blog Bug is still raging!…snort!… I was Wrong. I posted once before the previous one and it worked… crap!…But now it is back(I think)…sneeze!….Mike Baker where fore art thou??… grump!
1:30 pm on July 20th, 2010
Siber-H, I see at least a million toys in one of your pictures. How on earth would you know if one of them was missing?
1:46 pm on July 20th, 2010
Sammie!… I bet he has almost as many toys as your cousin Molly…heh!…Crap!…if I post this then it will take ages to get back here again…dammit!…Freakin’ Blog Bug!…Why can’t Mike B. put a permanent fix into this crappy software anyway!???… growl!
Snort!… On the bright side – I think someone is feeling a bit better this afternoon… Yeah!… sneeze!cough!
1:51 pm on July 20th, 2010
Pourquoi? In Shakespeare's day "wherefore" meant "why?" so Juliet is asking Romeo why he is Romeo since their families didn't get along. Just had to explain that.
I'm feeling okay Rio and I hope your friend is also.
My dog used to lie down and cross his paws just as SH is in the picture.
2:26 pm on July 20th, 2010
I know, Sam, I know, I know when she gets rid of one. I actually like to burrow under all those toys and take a nap sometimes. Molly managed to send me a few nice toys when she had the credit card. We must get that girl another credit card. She's a whiz at ordering online.
I still have the blog bug. It will be more difficult this evening to follow the game and check the blog, but I'll manage.
2:28 pm on July 20th, 2010
Romeo!…. Well that information from Stove explains a life-long question I have always had… snort!…Why is Juliet asking ‘where’ Romeo is when he is standing down below her balcony… (unless my memory is totally wrong..hmm)… Now knowing that wherefore means ‘why’ instead of ‘where’ makes it all understandable finally… Holy Crap! …. I swear Stover, I love you more each and every day…heh!…Big sloppy Pug kiss for you! Don’t run away! …snort! snort!…Come back!
Story!… My friend told me a funny story about when she was in high school English class (with her favorite teacher) reading ‘Romeo and Juliet’… snicker!…. I will one day have to relate that to all of you…heh! … Only she could have a story like that…ha! snicker!..heh!heh!…oh my.
2:34 pm on July 20th, 2010
Thank you for the pug kisses Rio. Why not relate the story now?
2:36 pm on July 20th, 2010
Riö, just watched Royal Pains episode #205. It is NOT the one YSAS is in. My sister saw him in episode #206 which is not on-line yet.
Hope all is going better for all.
2:54 pm on July 20th, 2010
Stover!… Too busy watching the Rockies game tonight and looking after my sick friend…snort!… I have to sit as close as I can and refrain from farting as much as I can while she is feeling poorly… wheeze!…But now that the story has been remembered I will relate it soon enough…heh!…Too good to be true type of thing…wheeze!
Melanie!…Thank goodness!…grunt!…We both did NOT want to re-watch the Winery story one more time…grunt!… It is not that good at all (we both really miss the writing talents of Breaking Bad big time!) … Everything seems less interesting to us after watching our favorite show… snuff!…Except the Rockies!…WOOOOO!
2:56 pm on July 20th, 2010
WOW!! The Rockies just scored 6 runs in one inning!!!
3:11 pm on July 20th, 2010
Sam and B. Stover, Yes, the pups are too young to leave. The visits are meet and greets with the pups. They have a great time for around 25 minutes and then they fall asleep. Also all twelve have homes to go to. Thank goodness.
3:17 pm on July 20th, 2010
I'm glad the pups have homes awaiting them.
Watching Warehouse 13.
3:23 pm on July 20th, 2010
Too late by two days…
I could've see PA's brothers swim the English Bay and come in 6th overall. Congratulations. That seems like quite an accomplishment. Even if there was only 6 teams overall.
Siber H. Those pictures were worth waiting for. Those eyes! I like the third picture best as well. There is no way any female could resist you.
Staff: no further update! Sheesh! Doesn't male staff understand the meaning of updates? Even if everything is the same good news.
I will check the caring bridge site periodically tonight and let you know if there is any change. Male staff is a man of few words as well as techno-challenged so he may not post if nothing has changed.
Melanie: Dan's okay? I'm looking forward to reading his story.
Lil ol' Lexi: I miss your swearing ol' self. Hope your dad is okay.
3:48 pm on July 20th, 2010
Wow, what a month we've missed!! We have been able to read Chet's posts and a very few blog posts, but it seems some serious stuff has been happening to the blogfam! Thank goodness, Rio is keeping things going. Super glad the surgery went well for Staff and Mr. Staff needs to UPDATE!! Hope Dan gets to come home soon. Hospitals are no fun at any age and it seems like we all recoup better in our own homes.
We missed the shower for the puppies. but have taken a few minutes to check pics! Way too cute and we can see why they are all have potential homes.
Is it too late to have a quilt square and what do we need to do?We want to be remembered with Chet's blog!
SiberH, we vote for pic #3, too. Love the expression and the blue eyes! Where is Lexi, a missing for too long pup?
3:51 pm on July 20th, 2010
That's supposed to be "we can see why they all have potential homes."
4:04 pm on July 20th, 2010
Gus&Boobear, I don't think it is too late to do a square for the quilt. You can do it with a photo, or send one to staff, or both. We want you to be a part of the quilt.
Great!! Dawson is still with us while on vacation! We hope male staff can update us once in awhile, but we know how that is.
Lexi, we miss you!!
4:21 pm on July 20th, 2010
G&BB – See up above for all the questions I asked Wookie. I'm doing a quilt square and Sammie is making me do hers too. I'm fine with mine as soon as Wookie gives me the instructions, but Sam is causing me a problem. She wants to be like Princess except she's recently gone to the groomers and had a BUZZ CUT!
4:23 pm on July 20th, 2010
Puss N’ Boots!… You are no where near too late with your square my good fellows…snort!… My square has not even been started yet!…grump!… Someone is lying down on the job as I speak!…hmmmphf!…So please do not despair, you are still able to get your square in the Blog Team Quilt!…heh!…What would it be with out you guys anyway???…. wheeze!
Rockies!… TEN to NOTHING!…heh! Top of the NINTH! …Take that Mr. Marlin! …snort!… Rockies are batting right now… snort!…Just give it up you fishies…heh!
4:36 pm on July 20th, 2010
Since we are talking about the quilt and time…we have to give staff time to recover. I don't want her to be pressured in any way. So, put your thinking caps on.
4:45 pm on July 20th, 2010
WOOOO!… Rockies shut-out the Marlins 10 – 0!!… Eleventh shut-out so far of the season!…Yip!Yip!Yip!

Woooo!…What day is it anyway?… sniff!…I'm confused for some reason!…OH! Its the day Rockies win 10 – 0 heh heh heh!…AND it's the Day Sammie got a BUZZ CUT!… Ho! Ho!… This is not going to go over well with lil Sammie…hee!
5:14 pm on July 20th, 2010
hee hee I didn't need any chew strips for that baseball game.
I think Sam will look cute in a buzz cut. She can be a very modern princess.
5:44 pm on July 20th, 2010
I'm finally getting to the computer — this waiting for someone to turn the it on for me is just for the birds! The next time Molly gets ahold of the credit card maybe she could order me my very own computer with one of those "easy" buttons I've seen on the commercials. I think I could push that!
SiberH — I also vote for photo #3 — boy am I glad Molly finally found that one! I don't mean to say that the other two were bad, I just like the third the best.
I'm glad Staff seems to be doing well. I hope Dan and Melanie and everyone else continue to recover well. And Rio, your prayer last night was wonderful, as are all your previous prayers. Have you ever thought about putting on a collar? (No, not a dog collar, one of those priesty/pastory things!)
Mom got all the stuff for my quilt square. Now I have to be like Rio and wait for her to make it. Unfortunately, she told me it might be awhile before she gets around to it because she's a procrastinator. I'm not sure what that means, but I don't like the sound of it. That was one of the things she liked about working for newspapers — the deadlines. She always used to finish her stories right on deadline — never early — which drove her editor crazy. So when is the deadline for the quilt thing again? I'll make sure Mom makes it by then!
5:45 pm on July 20th, 2010
Psych!…The new episode we are going to try and watch (before someone has to go back to bed) is called “Romeo and Juliet and Juliet”…heh!… Coincidence? …Very bizarre indeed…snuff!…We think Stover would enjoy this funny series…The conversations during the show as the "psychic" heh, is trying to solve the case are very entertaining to us both, sick or not…snort!
6:04 pm on July 20th, 2010
Kirby, Since staff had surgery, I don't know when the deadline for the quilt squares should be. We need to come up with, maybe, a new plan.
6:05 pm on July 20th, 2010
Kirby!… No deadline for the quilt squares yet, thank Gawd!… snort!…No, I do not aspire to a priestly or pastor like collar, as I am a very, very bad guy and I need forgiveness each and every day from the Lord of All Creation…sigh, ..Thank goodness for his Grace as he does forgive you if you ask him.
Quilts!…We are at the mercy of our owners Kirby…snort!… No doubt about it my friend…cough!wheeze!…Well, she is off to bed again and I am following. It’s the only way I can get on the big bed, if I go now and she lifts me up there…sniff! …Goodnight all! We are still thinking of Staff and praying for her big time…I wish Mr. Staff would update us more…Maybe tomorrow?
6:09 pm on July 20th, 2010
Goodnight All! Don't let the blog bugs bite…sorry, sorry, sorry. I couldn't resist that.
6:19 pm on July 20th, 2010
(Maybe I'll just make up a deadline for Mom. That way the quilt square will be ready whenever Staff is ready, and I won't have to keep pestering Mom. Just don't tell!)
Maybe after the quilt project we should get a team together to start training for the Bay Challenge. After all, we can dog paddle — we're sure to win!
Good night, y'all. Do you think Mike Baker will pull an all-nighter and fix the big bad blog bug whilst we're all sleeping? Maybe when we send the quilt we ought to add a flyswatter for just such occasions!
7:05 pm on July 20th, 2010
Update! Staff was peppy at noon but tired in evening. Is in no pain. The kidney is not working yet but that is normal for the first few days. Still in ICU.
That's all he gave me, that man of few words.
