A Message From AJ On The Iditarod Trail
There’s a stop called the Old Woman Cabin on the Iditarod Trail and inside there’s a guestbook. AJ of Snowhook Kennel – our team, for newcomers here – left a message for the Plunderers – a supportive (and that’s putting it mildly) band of friends here at chetthedog.com. AJ had a camera with him and snapped this picture.
Welcome Oliver, Annabelle (recent Snowhook retiree), Bertie. Aero – please try uploading again.

Good morning, y’all! Mom has an out-of-town shower to go to today, so she’s leaving the computer off for awhile. I hope to be back tonight!
Meanwhile, I just wanted to say to AJ — awesome!!! Both for last night’s post and today’s photo. We definitely picked the right guy to support!
9:02 am on March 24th, 2012
Thank you AJ and welcome Annabelle. (Welcome Oliver and Bertie as well.)
Terri and Pal: I’m from southeast Michigan.
Good morning all.

A.J. – I believe. Thanks for sharing a mystical time. I also believe you and Rebecca together can write The Ultimate Iditarod Book. You express yourself very well.
Welcome, Terri and company. We live in Indiana and we lurk most of the time. We’re absolutely not technologically able, but we love our new Kindle.
Have a good first weekend of spring. Warm thoughts to Everybody.
xoxoxo

Good morning, all.
Plunder On!
I love it.

Terri, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Wolfie Wigglebutt and I am world famous for my ability to Blur. Blurring is an art as well as a science. It is the ability to decompose cells, transport them through time and space, and then recompose them once I arrive at my destination.
Oh, and I also make toffee.
We live near Yosemite National Park.
9:47 am on March 24th, 2012
AJ – I had the same thing with the dog I had before Mollypop. I was out of town when that dog died and I think she came to me to say good bye. This didn’t happen with Molly because she died in my arms.
9:47 am on March 24th, 2012
I love this picture. That.Is.All.
9:53 am on March 24th, 2012
Wow, that is special. Plus A.J.’s post last night gave us chills and a few tears too. We believe.
Amalia and Leonard’s pray for Dan and family was wonderful as always. Hope things are more peaceful for them today.
Terri, we live in northwest Illinois and have goats (of yea, marauding goats are another one) and chickens. Maggie is the world’s best ratter, at least according to Mags. She is under the Quilt today, due to some surgery yesterday. Poor Mags.
Our showing today seems to nave disappeared into the ether. Sob.
Realtor had all sorts of questions about the well here, which is up to code, but is old. Guess old scared them away.
10:12 am on March 24th, 2012
Good Morning Plunderers.
AJ: Tnank You for your Beautiful Story.
Happy tears here.
We Believe.
10:15 am on March 24th, 2012
Good Morning All!
A.J: Loved the picture and your words last night brought tears to my eyes. I believe. Eat lots of ice cream, and I’m looking forward to 2013. I’ll be back!!
Maggie: Rest well under the blanket. May I snuggle next to you?
Dan, I’m sending strong prayers to you, Zoe, and Melanie.
Terri: The Prof and I live in Westchester County in the town of Croton on Hudson, New York. Yes, we can walk to the Hudson River!!
10:24 am on March 24th, 2012
Thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts. Things are a bit better. Riö, Dan is actually behaving himself, it’s this B/P carpola and doctors not taking any responsibility. Dan has been very happy writing. He’s slow, and Zoë’s been sneaking peeks and says it’s very funny. But he’s getting scared. His nose started bleeding. It has stopped now and he has an appointment with his GP on Monday. Hopefully, everything will be calm today and tomorrow.
10:25 am on March 24th, 2012
AJ, thanks for a beautiful post.
Yes, I believe. After all, Honey, Winnie and Paddy came to me for one last romp on Lewis Creek.
I am even more committed to 2013.
10:27 am on March 24th, 2012
Dan!…Melanie and Zoe, I hope you guys are doing okay this morning…sniffle!
AJ!…A magical story. Thank you for sharing that with us…snort!…I think I can speak for all of us here and say we will be with you on the trail for as long as you choose to run it…chuffle!
Projects!…Well it’s one thing to make projects..snort!…Then its a whole other thing to package them up so they don’t break during the rough-ride to their destination…grunt!….Thats what Beau and I are doing right now. Helping package up Three projects…heh!…Hopefully these will raise lots of money in a Silent Auction called, “Paws For Love”…wheeze!…But first, breakfast!….woooooo!
10:27 am on March 24th, 2012
AJ: WOW!
Terri, below is the map of how Bostonians see the world. The Pack and I live in the area “Here Be Dragons”.

10:34 am on March 24th, 2012
AJ: Younger and Rory came to run the trail with you one more time and to say thanks and see you later. I believe.
Melanie: Prayers being sent for you, Zoe, Dan and the River Bear Pack this morning.
Barb and Maggie: Old houses are best – don’t people know that? Hope Maggie heals quickly.
For Terri and Pal: I’m the other Canadian (actually dual) citizen on the blog. I live in Fort Nelson, BC. (There, SiberH., now you know).
10:51 am on March 24th, 2012
Rose, All snuggles are greatly appreciated. I am remaining fairly quiet today, although I am up to some mild tail wagging. No chasing about, however.
Terri, There will be a test later on locations and special interests of all Plunderers. Bee will be grading, and she cuts no slack! You will be down graded if the test is turned in late!
11:11 am on March 24th, 2012
AJ: Thank You for the beautiful post last night…sniff.
Bluecat already said this, but you and Rebecca together could write THE Iditarod book. It would be very unlike the books that have already been written about it. It would be a much better book.
Annabelle, Welcome to friends of Chet. We are all so proud of you!
11:13 am on March 24th, 2012
Hello Plunderers. Mom was sick since Thursday night, and wanted nothng to do with the iPaw, computer, or even t.v. So we had tocatch up now on everything.
Melanie, we are so sorry to read about Dan’s BP problems. We will keep him, and Zoe and you, in our prayers.
AJ, we cried reading your post from last night. And we also believe. Please take time to grieve. It is good.
Terri and pal, so glad you continue to post here . There is a list of all the plunderers. Someone can get that info to you. We aren’t quite sure of the policy. But we are4 Siberian Huskies who live in a rural part of SE Pennsylvania. We have 2 cat housemates: Buddy and T.C. Buddy thinks he is one of us; T.C. Would not sink to such depths.
11:23 am on March 24th, 2012
Dawson, tee hee I’m getting out my maps.
Terri, I live outside of Albuquerque, NM, but I have declared myself a dual citizen of both Canada and the USA so I can have two Thanksgiving dinners and punctuate any old way I feel like it.
I would rather live in Canada or Alaska.
Thanks for the photo, AJ, and thanks for thinking of us there. There are tales of many a musher waiting out a storm in Old Woman Cabin. It is historic.
11:35 am on March 24th, 2012
Maggie, wishing you a speedy recovery, but take it easy.
Hank Debruin, his family, and his faithful Siberians live in Ontario. He has guided sled dog tours. Mom wouldn’t hesitate to sign up for one of his tours, but we live a zillion miles away.
11:38 am on March 24th, 2012
Not sure if this is going to work. If not perhaps MollyPop’s mom can chime in on how best to do this.
This is MagPie’s brother!

Oh my! Oh my! Mom just brought in our mail, and there was an envelope addressed to our attention. And what do you know? It is our picture…all 4 of us. We made it … Down those harrowing steps, across The Gorge, thru the burn (even after the sled broke), down the Yukon, up the sea ice, all the way to Nome. Imagine that!! And none the worse for wear!
Best of all, we got a for-real Iditarod patch. It looks just like the profile picture Mom was using on Facebookie thru the whole race.
Thank you, AJ, for taking us along. And thank you, Rebecca, for taking the time to mail this directly from Nome. What a great gift.
11:48 am on March 24th, 2012
Which one is maggie’s brother? The light one (that looks like TYB?) or the darker one that looks like Magpie?
11:53 am on March 24th, 2012
We aren’t able to launch the website that Melanie posted, but we just looked at Terri’s. That is a great website! Terri, do you live with horses too? So do we and so does Bluecat. Bluecat’s horse even went on the Iditarod!
11:56 am on March 24th, 2012
Wow! AJ loved your vision of the dogs running with you. Like you I am not sure what to believe but I have to believe it was Rory and Younger.
Just showed Mr.Staff the photo that went to Nome on the Iditarod trail and discovered the little Iditarod 2012 patch inside. You really have to keep an eye on any envelope that comes from another Plunderer. Remember when we got the special Chet the Dog pawprint charm that said WWBD on the back? Some of those got lost I think. We have to pay attention!
Prof.B. Mr.Staff has a question. Why is colonel spelled this way but pronounced kernel?
Lunch time here so I will BBL.
12:04 pm on March 24th, 2012
Thank you so much, Melanie. We were able to view it so you have uploaded it correctly. It is not an exciting video, but it features my bro, so I wanted to show it to you. The good looking guy on the left, the tri-color, is my brother Remy (Remington). The sable girl to the right is Bridget, no relation to me. This was filmed for a local ad in Green Bay, WI. where they live. I think it was an ABC affiliate, advertising a Pet Expo.
12:05 pm on March 24th, 2012
Maggie, what did we miss? Why did you have a surgery?
12:07 pm on March 24th, 2012
The EagleCam just showed all 3 eggs quite clearly! One of them should be hatching soon.
12:19 pm on March 24th, 2012
So much going on on the blog today and last night. AJ’s wonderful post, and a final tribute to Younger and Rory. I think mom and really teared up reading it, but with big smiles on their faces too. Thank you, AJ. for sharing this with us. Melanie’s update sounds better too, but it is important to keep those doctors in line.
Terri and pal I am known as Agent 00Wookie, currently under assignment to Commander Rio, our fearless leader. I drive the Wookiemobile, especially to important sporting events and secret missions, usually undertaken to learn more about what our favorite author is writing. Not surprisingly, I live in Chevy Chase, Maryland, just outside our nation’ s Capitol. I live with my mom (a quilter extraordinaire), my dad (a lawyer originally from SiberH’s New Mexico), and my grandpa (the world’s best tummies giver). I’ve been kind of sick recently, but right now I am feling pretty tip-top. Wookie
12:33 pm on March 24th, 2012
Hi Terri and Pal: I live in North Pole, Alaska (actually just outside it). I am the only Plunderer who has been able to meet AJ and Rebecca in person and pet their dogs. I will be practicing my camera skills in preparation for the 2013 race and this time I want to also go to Nome to watch our team finish.
12:33 pm on March 24th, 2012
Hi Terri – We are the Royals – Pembroke Welsh Corgis like the Queen has, so we have relatives at Windsor Castle. But our stories are kinda like fairy tales – we were both in bad situations, ended up in rescue and were adopted by our Mama and Dad who live with us in the same area of “Here be Dragons” as Melanie and the Pack. (Auntie Melanie is our Mama’s bestest friend)
We also have the misfortune of sharing our home with two reprobates, known as Basil and Sage, the Wrotten Kats. We spend most of our spare time trying to coax them into packing boxes so we can ship them off to parts of the world unknown. Unfortunatly, Mama usually catches us before we get the box out to the mailbox for pickup. Its that darn packing tape that always slows us down….
12:37 pm on March 24th, 2012
Wookie is being modest, we must say. His dad travels enough to have a favorite book store in NYC and London, a fact we found quite impressive. We have never even been to London, much less have a favorite store there. And his mom, Debbie LM, is not just a quilter. She gives world-class dinner parties, with the most magnificent foods and table settings!
Oley, We didn’t make any big announcements, but since my motherhood career was cut short due to my so-so hips, I had to have a necessary operation yesterday. Barb said there was no sense “going thru all that twice a year” if there was no end prize. Consequently, I am laying low for a few days, peeking out from the quilt for brief periods.
12:44 pm on March 24th, 2012
AJ: Sniff. There is no doubt in my mind that Younger and Rory were with you and the team on the trail.
Bluecat is right. Your story of travels on the Iditarod Trail would be a best seller. We loved the message you left at Old Woman cabin.
Howlers: Wondering where you were! What is this bug that is going around? Hasn’t reached the Island. Thank Kat.
Terri,Dorothy&Flower: Moi is a friend of BearSpiritDog. We live with our mom on an island in the Pacific NW.
Melanie: You, Dan and Zoe are surrounded by prayers and pawsative thoughts.
Magpie: Snuggle with Dan under the quilt for a bit.

Staff: The word “colonel” came into the English language in the Middle Ages. The Italian “colonello” means column and this was transferred to the leader of the column in military terms. The Italian word “colonello” was merged with Spanish and French and spelled “coronel” but meant the same. In English we kept the Italian spelling without the inflected ending but use the French pronounciation. (In the Middle Ages not many people could read or write so pronounciation ruled.) I’m going to do more research to see if I can find anything more.
12:59 pm on March 24th, 2012
Mom must be getting sick, because when she started catching up on the blog I heard her sniffling. Wonderful story AJ, and I know you probably have at least 100 more. “Running North” was no great piece of literature, but enjoyable, and we know Rebecca can write, so at least jot down some memories while they are still fresh, and the book can come later. BTW, any more news on the TV show?
12:59 pm on March 24th, 2012
Just got to catch up on everything since Thursday pm. Wow, talk about tears. Mom is sniffling and crying.
First, Melanie…we are so sorry that Dan is not feeling well. Hopefully, they will be able to get the bp under control. At least he is writing and enjoying that. You and Zoe hold on tight to each other. At least you have each other to share the tough times with. Amalia and Leonard’s prayer was very powerful.
AJ, your post last night started Mom crying all over again. What a wonderful way for Younger and Rori to say goodbye…running the race by your side. We got our pictures and the patch yesterday and will be framing them along with your note. Dad was wondering if we could request an autographed picture of you on the trail with the dogs. We want to frame it and give it to the meat shop that were very excited to learn that their jerky was going on the Iditarod. Mom will email Rebecca about that later.
Maggie, feel better later.
Terri and Pal, we are 2 cats who live with our Mom and Dad and many other rescues in southeast Texas. We made a map with stars on it for the Plunderers locations and posted it a while back. Mom keeps saying that she will update it and repost it, but hasn’t yet. We’ll stay after her to do that.
AJ, thanks for the “Plunder ON” picture! How very, very cool!!!

Ah – ah – ah – chooooo, sniff, sniff
Ve are under qvilt vith Maggie. Ve have told her that is better to be glamorous, single female vith vonderful figure than vorry about cute, sveet, adorable pupkins.
To Terri – so, you vant to be new Plunderer? Natasha vill be keeping eye on you. Is important you know ve are Vorld’s Best Undercover Spy – even vhen ve have the red nose and sniffles. Ve are also femme fatale and all boy doggies from blog are in love vith Natasha.

Mags, old girl, these are for you.

Annie, Biddie and I got our surgery on the family plan, lol!
Take it easy and you will be better than ever in no time.

Magster, we understand what you’re going thru now. We want you to know that you willl be tip-top very soon, and no more of those twice-a-year things. (Mom understands too).
1:20 pm on March 24th, 2012
Okay, so, I have an idea.
Why don’t WE write a book?
1:21 pm on March 24th, 2012
Hmmmmmmmmmm?
1:25 pm on March 24th, 2012
We just posted a link to a great video but it got lost in siber-space. It was one of our guys greeting his dad after an 8-month deployment. Looked like the way we greet Mom every day…times 8!
1:26 pm on March 24th, 2012
Dear, sweet Wolfie –
We love you dearly. Truly we do. But are you nuts?
1:27 pm on March 24th, 2012
Thank you all for the sweet words and the beautiful bouquet of flowers. They are making me feel better already. Maybe not tip top yet, but better.
Terri, You will find that we are a very friendly, diverse group. Our commonality is a love of books, a love of animals, and a love for each other.
Time for a little nap now. BBL
1:51 pm on March 24th, 2012
Well Wolfie, dear. If YOU want to write a book we will not stop you.
Just the thought of writing a book makes me feel sleepy. However I will happily read any book any of you write. (Including Spence.)
However it might be time for a nap here also…
1:51 pm on March 24th, 2012
T&G: Yup.
2:00 pm on March 24th, 2012
We made the long, long climb upstairs to the big computer to watch the video Melanie posted. Whoah Maggie! You’re brother is a real looker. Thanks for posting that, Melanie.
Now we are taking a nap. Mom is still on the sick list and that makes us very sleepy.
2:02 pm on March 24th, 2012
Blah!…Blah!Blah!…grunt!…Youse guys are nuts giving out all your information to a stranger…sniff!…Go ahead but leave me out of it…grumble!
Busy!…This morning has been fun messing with my friends packaging stuff…heh!…Beau likes to sit on things. Then when she yells at him he looks the other way…chorkel!…As if he is saying, “My name may or may not be Beau.”….snort!…I like to sneeze on everything and lick it…heh!…I hope the people who are getting these projects have some cleaning supplies handy…chuffle!
2:49 pm on March 24th, 2012
So much for our nap. Now we are waiting for the Big Vet (horse vet) because Shiek is making foam like crazy. We are getting him a shot.

Terri, In case you hadn’t guessed, Rio is the blog’s rendition of Oscar The Grouch. He has a gruff exterior but a heart of gold (according to some). He likes to play “the devil’s advocate”.
3:18 pm on March 24th, 2012
Ha ha! Masquers, thats how these guys see me!
3:22 pm on March 24th, 2012
What is “making foam?”
Mom says when she was pregnant with my 2-legged brother (lo, many years ago…) she had horrific morning sickness and at 10 a.m. every morning she would puke yellow foam, and did so into her 7th month. Thank dog the kid turned out all right and mom hasn’t had any foamy experiences since then.
Go ahead, Rio, completely freak out at the TMI details in the above paragraph.
Love you, flat head. Ppphhhhtttttt!

And although he farts, he plays a mean harmonica, has a backpack and a go phone.
He is truly a great commander.
The Newfs obey every word he says. More or less.

I just cut some hot peppers and washed my hands and then touched my lips.

Maggie: Hope you are tip-top soon!
4:01 pm on March 24th, 2012
Melanie, Sour cream rubbed on to hands is supposed to help. Don’t touch your eyes, whatever you do!
What is a Miss Marple?
We just got our envelope from Nome, and it is not canceled at all- it looks like it never went thru the mail. Thank you Snowhook!
4:09 pm on March 24th, 2012
Melanie – Loved your Massachusetts map. We in New York State have a similar one – it shows New York City and the rest of the state is Farmland. I like yours better since it has dragons.
4:15 pm on March 24th, 2012
Howlers: Please keep us posted on Shiek. Do you know what is causing this?
4:48 pm on March 24th, 2012
Photo!… Thats exactly how Beau looked when he was little…snort!…Too damn bad he had to grow up so ugly…grunt!…He always has crusted snot on his nose and he smells…sniff!…And he always gets too close to the kamera…heh!
5:09 pm on March 24th, 2012
I think Beau is a cutie pie.
5:16 pm on March 24th, 2012
Beau!…He never goes anywhere without his ball…snort!…My friend thinks he’s cute too – but she says I’m the handsome one…chuffle!
5:18 pm on March 24th, 2012
awww, that’s a cute picture of Beau, Rio
5:34 pm on March 24th, 2012
Beau is cute. Riö you are handsome!
Miss Marple is also known as the series by Masterpiece Theater called “Agatha Christie Marple”. I believe that season 1 is streaming on Netflix. That got us hooked and we are now doing the DVDs. We are at the beginning of season 3.
YSAS asked me to do something. This was while I was cooking dinner. I can not remember what it was … pondering. Guess I’ll have to call.
Dinner was a success. Chestnut flour crepes with cream cheese and a salad. I had cooked a wild rice blend up in the rice cooker and then cooled it. Sautéd some peppers and onions in olive oil. Patted off the extra oil. Cooled that. Had some nice lettuce put on some raw pumpkin seeds and topped off with the other stuff. Took my bows!
Rose: Most people in the easter part of the state have never been “Wes da’ Wostah”
5:44 pm on March 24th, 2012
Does Beau ever smile? He always looks a little sad in his pictures. Kind of like he doesn’t believe he has the right to be happy in his new home.
6:10 pm on March 24th, 2012
The prized tennis ball looks like a real one only smaller. I hope your friend bought a dozen of them.
6:13 pm on March 24th, 2012
Sad!…He’s not sad…snort!…He’s smug…grunt!
6:24 pm on March 24th, 2012
Rio: That is an awfully cute picture of Beau.
I agree with Gus and BooBear—Beau does always look kind of sad in the pictures you’ve posted. Maybe his tennis ball is a security blanket for him.
6:26 pm on March 24th, 2012
Did anyone see the movie Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy with Gary Oldman?
6:30 pm on March 24th, 2012
Stover!…No!
6:40 pm on March 24th, 2012
B: The prof and I did.
6:44 pm on March 24th, 2012
Rose: Did you like it? (I like Gary Oldman.) It’s on On Demand.
6:48 pm on March 24th, 2012
Melanie, I know Miss Marple is a mysteries series, but the way you said “time for a Miss Marple”, I thought it was code for something. You know, like Miss Marple always take a hot bubble bath, or something along those lines. Guess we were over thinking that one!
How is Shiek? Don’t feel bad Jasper’s mom about the foam thing. Barb had horses for about 18 years, and she isn’t sure what it is either. Colic, bloat, founder, yes, but not foam.
6:52 pm on March 24th, 2012
B: I’m waiting for it to come down the queue on Netflix.

Hi everybody! Thanks for answering my Q about where you are. I like to have a rough idea so I can imagine the weather you’re having, etc. It’s obvious that I’ve been missing out on a lot of interesting stuff — way impressed by Wolfie’s blurring!
Now, Terri will answer your Q about horses.
* WOOF ! When we moved to a place with a big yard for me to play in, I was excited to see horses at the farm nearby. I would have been a whole lot more excited to see sheep; but no such luck. The breed is called The Canadian Horse.
Couple of years ago in winter (one horse has since moved away):
Horses in Snow 1
Horses in Snow 2
Horses in Snow 3
Last summer, the 3 mares left their field: Great Escape
* Every summer we go to watch horses jumping in or near Ottawa. We’ve seen Ian Millar and his son and daughter riding, plus some other famous riders. After a while, I get bored and just lie down in the shade for a rest.
* Many years ago, before I was born, Chimo visited a farm where there were Norwegian Fjord horses:
Foal
I’ve been to the farm too but the horses are gone now. Instead, the people have 3 dogs. I guess they’re easier to feed.
OOOPS! Now I need to go outside to check out that stinky skunk smell – oh boy, that’s a strong scent – yippee!

Just stopping by to say hello and then goodnight. Mama has been working all day, and Gilly and I have been patrolling the yard for fuzzbutts. We lay up on the deck until one of us spots one of those aggravating little beasties – then we CHARGE full speed off the deck, down the path into the woods, at full speed, barking our heads off.
It is great fun.
But after the 20th or so fuzzbutt – Mama had had it with our barking so we were given a time out in the house.
We came back outside later and Gilly found a brand new toy to play with. She brought it to Mama to play tug with. For some reason, Mama shrieked, and made Gilly drop the toy. Sheesh, you would think Mama had never seen a petrified garter snake before…
Can’t a Corgi have a little fun?

Terri: Nice photos of the horses.
Be careful with Le Pew or you will find yourself banned to the netherlands.
Jasper: Mom says the granola bar recipe is on her list to try as soon as she has gathered all the ingredients together. A likely story. She’s not much of a cook I’m sorry to say. But she does like to read recipes and look at pictures of things to try “someday”.

Terri, Mom knows about the skunk smell We are already smelling it in the mornings before we go to the dog park I have been skunked twice so far. Doesn’t bother me.
Rio, that is a good photo of Beau, but you are our all time handsome pug dude.
Thanks for the video, Abbie. I don’t care what anyone says about you, you are a cute fluffy.

Barb & Maggie – The horses next door are big! As big as horses normally get, I guess. I don’t have hands so I can’t tell you how tall they are with hands. Probably not as tall as the ones that Ian Millar rides.

I think we are all sort of tired out after ‘our’ Iditarod. I can’t imagine what Rebecca and AJ feel like. Something wonderful has ended and we don’t have anything to replace it. Maybe we should get up a mission.
Rio I wonder if we could manage to somehow get a peek at the cover of Fistful if we activated the baseball cams? Can you get a mission to travel there and get things going again? We need some action around here. Things are too quiet.
11:00 pm on March 24th, 2012
Yawn!…What Alice?…snort!….Whats that you say? A Mission?…gruffle!…We just finished Mission Iditarod, now you want another one?…heh! …Quite bugging me and go tell Staff to get busy quilting and/or sewing some nifty stuff for the upcoming fund-raisers…sniff!
