A Goodreads Questioner Writes

“Mr. Quinn, my kids and I enjoyed all of your Chet and Bernie books. We look forward to the story continuing and hope beyond hope that Bernie will come around. It doesn’t look good for him…my daughter (age 11) is particularly worried about him and what might befall Chet if he doesn’t survive. Please put our minds at ease. Will you be sending us off on another adventure with Chet soon?”

Answer: HEART OF BARKNESS, July 2! (And before that, in case she still reads middle-grade, too, there’s RUFF VS. FLUFF!)

Good morning All. Mom thanks you for helping with her vision loss, but she’s not to the point of needing VoiceOver. Everything just takes longer. Mom’s 40-year career was in computers. Back in the 70’s she installed one of the first ATM’s in Buffalo. She still writes code as needed, but it takes much longer to do.

Mom still does crossword puzzles, but again, slower. With her macular degeneration, images are distorted. Faces on TV are so distorted she doesn’t recognize some of them. Mom reads for hours every day, using her Kindle. The paper white one is backlit and can make much larger print.

The woman is just impatient! Like having to enter my name and email on this blog with every post.

I’ve been wondering why we need to put name and email address every time we post a comment on the blog. How about changing it back Spence?

    Good morning all.

I think the reason for the sign in to commentary on this blog is to keep it what the author intends, a friendly place where we Chetsters can visit and share. Logging in to post provides a way to banish “trolls” by simply blocking them. Sad, but anyone who uses social media on the internet knows it’s good to put some fences in place….with gates for friends!

And I am with that eleven year old mentioned in today’s opening. Seems like I have been worried about Bernie for a long time!

LouLou: Wow, your mom is a real computer pioneer! I agree with you…it is a pain to have to type in your information each time you post.

HOH: Thanks for the Iditarod updates!

I am reading a book called “New York” by Edward Rutherford. It is historical fiction, and quite fascinating!

RIO! I was thinking about you while I was practicing my uke. I think if you were a singer, you would sound like Joe Cocker! :^)

    Good day to all!

Windows has a built-in magnifier called, very originally, Magnifier. The Windows 10 version is quite good, or so I’m told. Mac and iOS have Zoom. Give them a shot, they might help.

Just a few stories from the trail.
Nikolai is the first native Alaskan village on the trail. “ Go forward. Be happy.”
Joar Leifseth Ulsom was is the first into Nikolai and was presented with an Alaska air blanket and a pair of beaver mitts made by Oline Petruska.
This isn’t an official prize but a gift to show Nikolai‘s commitment to the race. The last musher to pass through Nikolai also gets a pair of beaver mitts.

Anna Radano fell into a hole in the ice hurting her ribs and shin.
Both are debating continuing or scratching.

Good evening, all. Nothing new to report, still unpacking more boxes! Having some new lights installed next week. Paint and lighting can really update a house. Mom went and looked at new bathroom faucets this afternoon but thinks that will have to wait until she get a new counter top. Otherwise, it’s like putting a fancy bow on a pug’s tail (teehee).

Nicolas Petit got the first Alaska Air Transit Spirit of Iditarod Award in McGrath.
It was a pair of beaver mitts and a beaver mushers hat made by a local woman.
He said they were nicer than his and put them into his sled box.

Two photographers were snowed in at McGrath and Rainy Pass. Because of the snow blocking parts of the trail, vets were sent to Ophir by snowmobile.
Ed Hopkins was the first rookie into Takotna.
Veteran musher Charlie Benja has broken two runners. He is taking his 24 in Takotna while waiting for his back-up sled to be brought in.
