A Gene For Grumpiness?
“Here’s an interesting NPR piece about dog genetics,” Spence says. “Turns out they’re not as complex as humans, at least in the sense that fewer genes are required to produce certain traits. Which means new breeds can be developed relatively quickly.”
Admin reads the article, tosses it aside. “Something reductive here,” he says. “Plus who knows what new ‘breeds’ of humans could be developed in some dystopian nightmare society and how long that would take.”
“Sounds like the idea for a book,” Spence says.
“You write it – I’m very busy.”

I knew today’s post would be good just based on the title. Let’s see….Will Spence be writing a new version of Brave New World?
Good morning all.
9:38 am on January 23rd, 2012
Good morning, Bee! And good morning, y’all! I didn’t get back on the blog last night because my girl was in her room (where my computer lives). Mom said was wondering how she came to get that book, because she didn’t remember even reading about it, much less getting on the list. But now that she has it….
Bear: Mom says she’ll read the book and get it to you ASAP! Since it was written by a military wife, it might be interesting!
9:43 am on January 23rd, 2012
By the way, I’m not sure if I told you or not but my girl is moving out this weekend. I’m kind of sad about that, but on the other hand, at least that means Those Girls are leaving, too! Right now Addison is being kind of a pain — literally! When my girl got her from the shelter, she was told that she had been spayed. But then it became apparent that she wasn’t. (Our v*e*t told her that sometimes shelter dogs don’t get spayed well because they’re in a hurry to get a bunch of them done.) So Addison had to go in for another operation the other day. And now she has one of those big, stupid cones on her head. And she forgets it’s there so she keeps whapping me with it! (Or maybe she knows it’s there and does it on purpose!) In any case, I’ll be glad to see her go!!!
10:03 am on January 23rd, 2012
Genes!….So this means I am just a few genes away from being Wookie!…heh!heh!.. My friend thinks they should nail down the Grumpiness Gene and destroy it…Whatever!….chuffle!
10:05 am on January 23rd, 2012
Yesterday I did manage to sneak into the room where Molly’s Mom was sleeping and sleeping. I knew she really wanted to get up and eat a soft-boiled egg and then mix some of it in my kibble. I was only trying to help.
10:09 am on January 23rd, 2012
Good Morning!
B: Brave New World rewritten by Spence – now that’s a thought to ponder.
Kirby: We’re all smiling here. Poor Staff! She was definitely discombobulated the day she sent off the book…to Bear.
I’ll bet you will miss those girls when they are gone. You just wait and see.
We have an early appointment today so will be back later.
10:12 am on January 23rd, 2012
Running!… I just now watched The Running of the Pugs….snort!… This is a fine example of how we guys do things…sniff!… A few of us will actually run to the other end, some will turn around and come back just because they get confused about the rules, and some won’t do anything…heh!heh!… I would most likely fall into that last group if she ever took me to a bogus event like that….chorkel! …For those of you who have not seen it, this was posted by Dawson through her sister Staff (the daffy one)…snort!

10:28 am on January 23rd, 2012
Good morning. We missed the grumpiness gene here, although the humans and one of the cats got it. Heh heh
The other cat is going to the v-e-t today, so pehaps we will find out that he has that gene afterall.
We just finished reading Robbie. It is a page-turner that you can’t put down once it gets to thescary exciting parts. Now we can’t wait for the next one.
10:29 am on January 23rd, 2012

Why does our name keep getting posted like that? It is not even our email address. lets see how this one looks.
10:30 am on January 23rd, 2012
OMD! Good night.
10:33 am on January 23rd, 2012
Well, at least Barb sent her book off to the right folks. G & B should have it today. Please let us know!
We lucked out last night. Temps started going up and all the ice melted off the trees, so no big damage here.
We are heading into town shortly. Barb is taking me to the V*E*T for some sort of little surgery repair. They wanted her to drop me off at 8:30 for blood work, then they were going to put me in a cage till late morning, drag me out and give me the shot to make me sleepy. Barb was afraid I would freak out, so she talked to my buddy, Jordy, the vet tech/babysitter. She said I can come in and Barb will stay with me while they make me sleepy. Sounds much better to moi!
10:36 am on January 23rd, 2012
Sam, you just don’t get enough credit for being so helpful.
10:51 am on January 23rd, 2012
Good luck, Maggie! Mom and I will be thinking about you. Are you going to have one of those funny coneheads like Addison?
10:52 am on January 23rd, 2012
Good Morning All, Grumpiness Gene? Well, just compare all those canine genes to human genes and the grumpiness gene will show up more in the humans!
Buddy and MagPie, good luck today!
Zoë’s gone down the hill to get her physical. She HATES doing that, but she’s doing it. Then she’s going to see Dan.
Dan’s x-ray has been switched to Wednesday, the doc is in surgery today. Friday is D & Z’s anniversary and Zoë is taking Dan a pizza.
10:57 am on January 23rd, 2012
Oley, whe you click on that name, it takes you to your weather report. Weird!
Kirby, Barb says no, I do not have to have a cone. I am having a littl hernia repair, and while I am out I am getting OFA’d whatever that means. I think I heard that sneaky Barb tell them to do my nails while I am out, so she is getting a three-fer. My grumpy gene really comes to the surface if I see nail clippers!
11:08 am on January 23rd, 2012
Thinking good thoughts for all who are doing medical stuff today.
Off to CLL – counting down…..
11:14 am on January 23rd, 2012
I don’t have fun with the clippers, either. That’s why Mom make them do it at the v*e*t, too. Or maybe it’s Mom who has the hard time because she’s afraid she’ll make me yell!
Anyway, Mom says I have to turn the computer off now. She has to leave for work early so she can change the oil, although I saw the oil in the pantry and it looks perfectly fine to me.
Hope all of you who are under the weather have a great day! It’s kind of gray and dreary here today, so I hope your weather is better!!!
11:27 am on January 23rd, 2012
Rio: A post that is all about you today. Do you feel honored?
Oley Howlers: You have been “BeJazzed”.
Today is the senior’s movie. It is “The Help”. Movie, popcorn, candy bar and pop for 35 cents! I feel sick already.
11:35 am on January 23rd, 2012
Dawson, I want a job like yours with popcorn movies. Sounds like you have a sweet deal!
11:36 am on January 23rd, 2012
AND. Popcorn AND movies!
11:47 am on January 23rd, 2012
Thank you all for my get-well wishes. I was just a bit under the weather and trying to do a lot of sleeping, no thanks to little Princess Sammie.
I hope all goes well with all the v-e-t visits.
12:33 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Wolfie: It is my day off. The local theatre puts on Senior’s movies on occasion.
12:40 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Dawson’s Day Off
What are you up to today?
12:42 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Mollypop’s Mom, Glad you are feeling better!
Buddy and Maggie, Good luck at the you know where. Let us know how you are doing.
Okay, I am just a few genes away from being a famous and wealthy Iditarod Lead Dog.
It takes both the groomer and her husband to cut my nails. Ha
1:06 pm on January 23rd, 2012
SiberH!…I bet they love seeing you come through their door…heh!heh!… It takes two to give Beau a bath, and my friend says she will never be one of those two….grunt!….She can’t wait till summer to hose him down the old fashioned way….chorkel!…I see the hose in her hands I make a mad dash for it, but Beau has not learned any of this yet…chuffle!
1:12 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Rio, Mom says she will never do it either. I don’t bite, but someone could accidentally get a black eye. The groomer’s husband is a really big guy, but I will admit he is also a nice guy.
I don’t think your friend could do the hose thing on Beau without help.
1:12 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Rio: When the hose comes out…the Running of the Pugs commences.
I am halfway done stripping the wallpaper from around the top of the bathroom. I have never before been so glad that this is a teeny tiny bathroom. I am an old pro at this now, with my plastic spatula and my clothes steamer. I just stopped to rest my shoulders.
1:12 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Good to hear from you Mollypop’s Mom.
1:21 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Maggie, good luck today. Tell us what OFA is once you figure it out. We thought we knew all about OFA, but it isn’t something you get done at the v-e-t.
MollysMom, we are glad Sammie was able to nurse you back to health.
1:31 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Hi Guys! I’m back from that place. I put up quite a fight about going into the crate, and almost managed to escape, hurt or no hurt. The weather outside is wet and foggy, which made that trip ultra-scary. The nice woman at that place poked and prodded and said that my arthritis had gone balistic, as happens in my kind. She then gave me a cortizone shot. What a difference that is making. The best part is that T.C. will have no idea that I’m back to myself when she goes sashaying by, thinking she is safe from my pouncing tactics. LOL what a surprise she will have.
1:34 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Bathroom!….Someone here really wants to start ripping old stuff off the wall in her little bathroom…sniff!… She’s afraid once she starts her mother will take over and hurt herself trying to get it done in one weekend….grunt!….So that a project is on the tippety-top shelf right now…heh!
1:47 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Buddy and MollyPop’s Mom, glad you guys are back to feeling better.
Note to self: When weather change arthritis sets in take an anti-inflamory BEFORE you decide to work out the pain by dancing.
Congrats Dawson! 1/2 the way thru.
Riö, why is your bath time reminding me of Turner and Hooch?
1:58 pm on January 23rd, 2012
I could tell a wallpaper story or two, even though they are from before my time. The challenge is not in the removal, but in the hanging. My dad now says the ability of a husband and wife to hang wallpaper together is one of the truest tests of a marriage; apparently he and mom have somewhat different philosophies in that regard. I would put my money on mom’s though.
Seems to be a good day for vet reports. I had my checkup today too, and the lymphoma is still fully in remission and my blood values are stable, which means that my kidney situation has not deteriorated any further(the cupcake/zinger diet seems to be doing the trick).
Rio, I always knew we were cousins, just a gene or two apart. I think I got a double dose of the the furry gene, however.
We may need to think of some creative ways to help Dan and Zoe celebrate their anniversary at the end of the week. Melanie, for the record, what number anniversary is it this year? Inquiring minds want to know.
Wookie
2:13 pm on January 23rd, 2012
This is Zoe and Dan’s 61st anniversary! Whooohoooo! That is amazing.
2:23 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Yippee!
Mollypop’s mom is feeling better.
Buddy is ready for action.
Wookie has another excellent report!
Barb is staying upright.
2:46 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Hey, Buddy, that is very good news.
Don’t worry about that mysterious link that suddenly appeared next to your avatar. We always welcome a howling good weather report.
Mollypop’s Mom: So happy to hear you are feeling better.
As of Saturday: We are now proud Iditarod Insiders! And, Robbie arrived in the mail.
Friday the 2nd qualifier for AJ, but no tracking available..right?
2:55 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Wöökie, Congrats Dude! That’s an excellent report!
And Dawson is correct. 61!
Masquers, yes, and I don’t know. It should be a real test for us Plunderers to just get updates. Whew.
2:55 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Great news Buddy and Wookie.
3:04 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Okay, there are two qualifying races this weekend and I can’t remember which one it is.
Don Bowers Memorial 200/300 Sleddog Race
The Northern Lights
I THINK it’s the Don Bowers because it starts in Willow.
3:07 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Don Bowers Memorial 200/300 has a Facebook page.
And there website:
http://www.donbowersmemorialrace.org
3:09 pm on January 23rd, 2012
One their website is “Standings”. That should be the place to check.
If you click Standings now it says, “Interesting stuff goes here once the race has started!”
And if you click by Checkpoint it says, “Well, we need to start first!”
3:28 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Gallery!… In the Gallery on that Race website Melanie put up, there is a photo of AJ and his team probably from last year…heh!
3:32 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Buddy, Glad you are back from the vet and feel better.
Wookie, Very happy about your vet report…very happy
AJ’s name is on the musher’s list.
There is a team of Siberians entered in the 200 mile race. This musher and team are also running the Iditarod.
We won’t be happy without GPS Tracking but we can plunder through.
3:40 pm on January 23rd, 2012
I have a surprise for you all: Curly Tail Quilling has gone pro and I have the picture (perhaps not in the best focus).
Here is a store in Ellicottville, NY that is selling the little gift cards on magnets. Quite impressive!

3:43 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Snort!…It seems like she sent more magnets than that in the little Box O’Quilling…snuffle! heh!
3:51 pm on January 23rd, 2012
That is a nice surprise. How cool! All the way to NY! This is the Big Time!
3:59 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Big-Time!….heh!snort!heh!…SiberH, sometimes you crack me up…chorkel!…If she hit the Big-Time she sure isn’t sharing any of the proceeds…sniff!…My treat budget is still Nil to Nuthing…grunt!
4:07 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Rio, That is wonderful news! Elicottville, N.Y. IS big time! Lots of money there to buy your wares.
Maggie is back from the vet’s but not feeling very chipper. She came thru surgery fine, but is pretty groggy. No romping till the end of the week. She will be complaining about not accopmanying me on chores, at least till tomorrow. After that, leash only for a 2-3 days.
4:13 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Many good reports today: Wookie, Buddy, Mollys Mom.
Maggie: Take Barb’s advice and get lots of rest today. You’ll soon have your strength back and be feeling as good as new.
Rio. Good work by your Friend! She is on the Road to the Big Time. We wish her much success. Just think. Someday soon she will be following in Golinka’s footsteps, leaving the Sometimes Busy Place far far behind.
Wookie: You are right about the hanging of the wallpaper…it takes two. Someone here has done it, but doesn’t care to talk about the results of that little project.
4:16 pm on January 23rd, 2012
I hope Maggie starts feeling better soon.
That is excellent news about Rio’s friend’s magnets! Thank you for the picture Mollypop’s Mom.
4:30 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Rio, your friend is holding out on you. Your treat budget should definitely increase now.
5:11 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Sammie!…I knew it!….grump!
5:44 pm on January 23rd, 2012
So glad to hear the good news about Wookie. Keep those good test scores coming!
MM sounds like you are feeling better too. Sammy wants to share her soft-boiled egg with you.
Oley, OFA, in this instance, means Othopedic Foundation for Animals. It is the most well know organization for grading hips for dysplasia. PennHip, a newer scoring technique, and started in your home state at the university, is another well-known test. The vet will send the x-rays to this place in Missour and they will tell us how good my hips are. Excellent, good, fair, marginal, or bad news!
5:52 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Our Pack had the OFA tests done. Need to for breeding. Umm, MagPie are puppies in your future?
Those dance moves have done me in. Hoping once the weather has gone through I’ll be able to walk normally again.
MollyPop! Thanks for sharing that wonderful secret! Riö, they look great!
6:03 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Umm, Melanie, Barb isn’t giving me any details yet, but she did mention this gorgeous stud of a guy she might want me to meet. His name is Cedar Creek Amble’s Sedar, and he lives in Wisconsin. Here is a picture of him. I think something is depending on my test scores, whatever this is.

6:18 pm on January 23rd, 2012
You go girl! Mama MagPie … Nice ring to it. Hope you Ace all your tests!
6:48 pm on January 23rd, 2012
This is really too soon to think about, but I’ll do it anyway. We could be cyber God Parents of baby MagPies..
7:26 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Here is one more pic of Sedar (maybe). Could you all keep paws crossed that my tests are good? Barb’s breeder friends think I would make a good mama, but Barb says I have to have good hips before she considers it. That is one of the only problems in my breed so we are hoping for good results.
I would love to have you guys for God Parents!
http://chetthedog.wpengine.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Copy of Sedar 2.bmp
7:30 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Not sure what I am doing wrong. If you click on the link you can see Sedar, but it is not Jpeg. It is bmp, not sure what that is. Maybe Rio can tell me.
7:37 pm on January 23rd, 2012
What a happy and handsome stud!
7:43 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Maggie and Sedar would have beautiful puppies. We will keep all paws crossed.
7:55 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Have to go back and read Saturday evening, Sunday’s and today’s posts but wanted to let Barb & Maggie know that White Wings came in the mail today!! No Goat bites….Thank Kat. Can’t wait to read it.
G&BB
7:56 pm on January 23rd, 2012
OK I think I did it right this time. This is a Jpeg so it should show up. Like Sammy said, a little early to get excited, but a girl can dream can’t she?
7:59 pm on January 23rd, 2012
G & B, You don’t know how happy Barb is that White Wings showed up! The Netflix disc taken in at the same time still has not shown up, so she was really, really worried! You are going to enjoy White Wings!
8:07 pm on January 23rd, 2012
White Wings soars thru the air!
My Key Lime pie without the crust turned out perfectly. Sweet and tart!
8:10 pm on January 23rd, 2012
George (the pheasant) is up top of the blog right now.
Rio. Tell your friend congratulations from us.
MPM glad you are feeling a little better…
Melanie, were you practicing?
Hope Dan has good news on the X ray front.
Dawson check your SDD please
Maggie, hope you get your mojo back soon. Puppies.. OOOOoo.
Macy how did your interview go?
Kirby, free at last eh?
Hope Zoe has good news to report also.
So glad to hear Buddy is better. Poor baby we were worried about him.
I know I am missing someone. Please forgive me.
8:34 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Melanie, Mr.Staff made key lime pie today also. (With crust)
YumOh
8:35 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Maggie and Sedar would make a handsome couple and their pups would be beautiful.
Dawson: The envelope has not arrived? Somehow we envisioned it would be there by now. Should we start to panic?
You northern gals make us smile, calling 2 below zero spring weather. It’s all in the contrast, right?
8:46 pm on January 23rd, 2012
AbbieTheKat!… I don’t know why everyone is acting like this is news…sniff!…Didn’t I tell you guys about the shop thing last week?… grunt!
January!….snort!….Then February. The two most depressing cold months of the year…snuff!… If I can just make it to March, maybe everything will be okay because Spring will be right around the corner….wuffle!
8:52 pm on January 23rd, 2012
What a great day to come home to – good news on all fronts, Buddy, MP’sM and all. Can’t wait to hear from Macy how her mom did with the interview.
And its a great day here too – 4 DAYS TO GO!!!!
CL announced in staff meeting today that she is expecting another grandchild in June. whoopie ding dong diddy. All that means is that she will be ignoring her business even more.
Not that Mama cares….at ALL!
(Rio – she really is leaving – AND – leaving it all behind!)
8:53 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Maggie – oooo – puppies!!!!!
8:53 pm on January 23rd, 2012
I was not practicing. 🙂
Just trying to loosen up my hip! Whoops!
Zoë did well at the physical. She did not end up in the hospital. That’s what happened the last time. She was a bit nervous before she went in though!
I’m taking my hip to bed!
TTFN
8:54 pm on January 23rd, 2012
AbbieKat, you forgot me in your list. Didn’t you care whether I got my soft boiled egg?
8:56 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Rio, When you said shop, we thought you meant something local, like in Colorado, not more than half way across the U.S.
9:01 pm on January 23rd, 2012
T & G’s Mum, You must stick with it, no going back or she will hook you in.
Macy, let us know about the interview!
9:01 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Abbie, Just on general principal you forgot me. sniff
9:02 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Four!…Plus days to go!…heh!
Idiot!…Oh my gosh. That show An Idiot Abroad is back and we are laughing our snouts off here…chorkel!
9:03 pm on January 23rd, 2012
BearSpiritDog: No panic yet. The P.O. is erratic at best.
Rio: You said shop but not New York shop!
9:07 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Shoppe!…Oh I see, a shop here in Colorado is not near as important as a shop somewhere across the US in New York…snort!….Gotcha. Except I bet if she could sell her wares to any shop in Estes Park Colorado she would break out the Champagne for sure…heh!heh!
9:13 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Same here, Rio. We thought your Friend took her magnets to a shop in town (not that there is anything wrong with that)
Okay, Dawson. Bear won’t panic (yet).
We forgot to mention that today is the start of the Chinese New Year. 2012 being the Year of the Black Water Dragon. Sounds ominous, but is supposed to be quite fortuitous for many.
9:26 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Bear!… Not you too!…sniff!…How condescending can you get, by the way?…grunt!…Please tell me Maskers is not blinded by the New York, New York glam and glitter….wheeze!
9:32 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Hero!….Karl Pilkington is our hero…snort!…He must be getting paid a whole lot of money to do this show with Ricki Gervaise …heh!…Either that or he is an Idiot. Oh wait! …chorkel!
9:35 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Hey, y’all! Mom and Dad are finally home so now the computer’s on — Monday nights are so late around here! I have to go supervise supper now, but first I was going to say that Mom looked at the nominations for this year’s Edgars, and even though she mostly reads mysteries, she’s only read two of the nominees, despite there being about 50 categories! Is anyone else familiar with any of the nominees?

9:36 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Rio, You are taking it wrong. There is nothing wrong with Colorado. Aspen shops are probably some of the most expensive in the US. We just pictured your friend going in person to a local shop and showing her magnets. Somehow being “nationwide” is even more impressive. If you could get some to a shop in Canada, then we can say you are selling “internationally”.
9:42 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Ahhh Sammy. I am so sorry to have forgotten you. I sure hope you made MPM get up and give you your soft boiled egg. Snicker
Rio, Somehow the fact that the cards are in New York instead of around the corner in Colorado somewhere makes a difference. I figure that finding a vendor far away is harder. Did Tyb or MPM get you this gig?
Well what was going on with you Mr.Husky? I must have missed something. Drat, I knew I would.
9:43 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Edgars!….Kirby, I perused the 2012 nominees but my favorite author is not on the list this year…grunt!… Maybe Robbie will land him another nomination next year…chuffle!
9:48 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Staff!….No, she got on an airplane and flew across the country to specifically go to this little shop and ask the owner if he would sell her magnets…grunt!…Are you seriously asking that question?…(the daffy one!)
9:59 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Decoded!….Here is something interesting to all of us….snort!….Apparently, there is an Alaskan Bermuda Triangle…sniff!…Rebecca, what have you heard about this phenomenon? More people disappear in this place than anywhere else. One in four (did I hear that right?) who go there disappear…grunt!… The area is a triangle between Anchorage, Barrows and Juneau….wheeze! …Let me watch the show and I will know more…heh! …It is ‘Brad Meltzer’s Decoded’….sniff!
10:01 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Kirby, I don’t recognize any of those authors on the Edgars nominations list.
Thanks for asking, Staff. Nope, nothing going on here which mom always says is a good thing. She is waiting for Spring just like Rio is but she says she doesn’t let herself dream about it until the Iditarod is over with.
BASEBALL SEASON!!
10:20 pm on January 23rd, 2012
Siber: Let’s not leap ahead too far. Don’t forget, the Plunderers will be accompanying AJ as he races across the tundra this year.
Rio: Near or far, I’m impressed. It is quite prestigious to have a shoppe selling one’s wares.

Goodnight all.

We were hoping to hear from Macy before bedtime, but it’s been a long day. Hope her interview went exceptionally well. We will catch up on what we’ve missed tomorrow morning. Barb is attempting to visit the dentist again tomorrow a.m., after her ill-fated appointment last Tuesday.
Night all. Rio, don’t get close to that northern triangle. Oh, that’s right, you can’t leave your yard!

Oh, Mags. Or should I say Oww. I love my puppies, but once was enough. You go girl. Meet your Mr. Wonderful and make beautiful pups.
The interview was just with an employment agency. Then she had to take some online tests. Excel and Word today, typing and ten-key tomorrow on a better computer. Woohoo. They may have a 3 week job taking orders for Valentine’s Day flowers. Just so long as she makes enough for another bag of Min-pin Munchies.

Macy: Were the tests for other jobs, too? That sounds like an awful lot of tests for a three-week job. I hope your mom gets it — maybe she’ll even bring you home some flowers for Valentine’s Day!

P.S. Valentine’s Day flowers got Dad in a lot of trouble many years ago. A couple days before the holiday he decided to order flowers for his mom and sister back in Iowa, but he figured he’d just bring home flowers for Mom, so he didn’t order any for her. But then on Valentine’s Day he forgot to get the flowers, so when Mom said “Happy Valentine’s Day!” and produced a box of chocolates for him, he (very stupidly) admitted that even though he’d ordered flowers for his mom and sister, he’d forgotten to get anything for her. Mom was not very happy. She threw the box of candy to (more like at) him and left the room. Not a very happy Valentine’s Day that year! Mom has never let him forget that one, even though he’s spent every year since then trying to make it up to her!

The tests were for the employment agency, before they send mom out on any jobs, they want to make sure that she has the basic skills needed. She made 93 on her Word test, but only 83 on Excel. Part of the problem is that the tests are over Office 2007 and mom learned 2010. Things are in different places, so much simpler things weren’t in 2007. Ehh, she passed, but not too happy with the format for the typing test, only one try. Time will tell.
Staff, we just set the record for the 100 piece Abbie. Not too hard when you are the first to do it!
We don’t do Valentine’s here. Mom and Dad just don’t worry with it. Those two are just a pair of hopeless romantics.
