A Fistful of Collars: Pre-Pub Day Pub Day
“So Titcomb’s Bookshop in Sandwich Mass. is having a special early launch for A Fistful of Collars?” Admin says.
“Today at three,” says Spence. “Looking forward to it.”
“Giving a talk?”
“I expect.”
“Going to mention satire?”
“Satire? Isn’t that what closes on Saturday night?”
“Hope not,” Admin says. “Because there’s a thread of it in A Fistful of Collars. In the whole series, in fact.”
“So you’ve read them?”
“Skimmed, anyway.”
A Fistful of Collars: On sale Tuesday, Sept. 11.

Happy Sunday! Is satire what Spence thinks we missed? Of course there is satire. Maybe that never actually got mentioned though.
Hunger Games was exciting, but left us with a depressed feeling. We think it is would have been better to read the book first, as Sammie said. Pop has read all 3 but Mom has not. They are on her “to read” list.
9:23 am on September 9th, 2012
Hogging the bed! Luna and her dog Belle Starr are hogging the bed. Plus, Luna is snoring. So much for sleeping in this morning. Grump.
Morning, Howlers!
9:25 am on September 9th, 2012
Howlers: You’re up top and looking good. Great way to start the day.
9:29 am on September 9th, 2012
Bella, it is the middle of the night up there!
We now have the most beautiful weather imaginable. It is clear, with no humidity. And the whole week looks to be the same!
Macy, we did read your rant after you pointed it out. What a fantastic rant! And we think you need to visit your mom’s school and bite a few legs.
9:40 am on September 9th, 2012
What is being satirized? This is a real question.
Good morning all.
9:52 am on September 9th, 2012
Have a good launch party today Spence.
Place names in Mass. are quite British.
10:08 am on September 9th, 2012
Yankees! What are you doing! Sob, sob.
10:12 am on September 9th, 2012
Bee – I have the same real question – what is the thread?
We enjoyed the Hunger Game books and didn’t see the movie. You all like the movie so we’ll watch it. We trust your reviews.

Two days and counting……..
10:24 am on September 9th, 2012
We received notice from Amazon yesterday.
The book is in the mail. Yay!
Good Morning Everyone!
10:32 am on September 9th, 2012
I have not received such a notice. š
Beautiful day here! Took the Pack up to the Camp for a walk/run. They ran more than usual because there is no humidity and it’s 62 degrees.
Loverly.
Dan has gone to church with my sister. I will be doing garden things today.
Macy’s Mom. Excellent rant.
11:03 am on September 9th, 2012
I haven’t received notice from Amazon either.
Wolfie: LOL! You’ve been counting….
11:06 am on September 9th, 2012
Ranting!…And sometimes Raving is good for the soul…snort!
Sleep!…We slept in till 7:30 this morning. Around here that is unheard of…heh!…Her mother is usually up banging and clanging around, opening and closing the garage door, slamming cupboards doors and other doors around 6:00am…sniff!…And another good thing, Beau is off to the groomers later today…heh!heh!heh!heh!heh!heh!heh!heh!heh!heh!….cough!
Maskers!…Someone took off part of their costume after the murder had been solved and tied it around my neck….grump!…I couldn’t get it off so I continued begging with it on and found out I got lots more food in costume. Next year I may have to re-think the whole dressing-up part…heh!heh!
11:11 am on September 9th, 2012
Oh, oh. Maybe Amazon is trying to make up for the last time when we were left out of the loop entirely.
It’s Grandparents Day today. Happy Day to those that are.
11:40 am on September 9th, 2012
Gah! Burnt coffee.
Riƶ: Speaking of getting dressed up…there you are up at the top in your kool black hat.
Tell us more about the Murder Party. How is it decided who will be the murderer and the victim?
Macy: Still can’t find your rant. Very strange.
Bear & Wolfie posted at the same time.

Good Sunday morning plunderers! Beautiful cool weather here in the middle of the mitten. Windows are open, coffee’s on, and I’m determined to finish up a Christmas quilting project that has been in the pending file for far too long. All is well here.

The NYC Fire Department is having a remembrance walk for those lost in 9?11.
YSAS came across this walk while going home. He said the bells really get to you.
Before the bells is an old Fire Car, then the bells, then the Fire Fighters behind the bells.
1:35 pm on September 9th, 2012
Masquers:I’m with you—I still don’t show the Great Glue Stick Rant of 2012.
Luna and her dog Belle Starr finally gave me an extra inch of mattress and blanket this morning after considerable bushing, pulling, pleading and huffing and puffing—all of it mine. They both slept soundly through the tussel.
1:45 pm on September 9th, 2012
Hmmm, SnowBella . . I have “sorta” fixed that problem by making my bed so the covers are mostly on my side instead of Patsy’s. So the bed is lopsided, but I have more of a chance to keep some covers than if I make the bed pretty.
2:12 pm on September 9th, 2012
They have similar bells in Ann Arbor during the art festival. They are beautiful…and loud.
2:45 pm on September 9th, 2012
I would love a large bell. Might bother the neighbors, but it would be cool.
Speaking of neighbors, just met the new neighbor. She is moving in at the end of September. She has THREE Golden Retrievers and her oldest son (getting his doctorate at Yale and is OTAS’s age) has a Newf.
Excellent.
2:54 pm on September 9th, 2012
Garden work is done. Time for a rest. Whew.
Dognabbit, forgot to take a picture of the pumpkin . .
3:04 pm on September 9th, 2012
Melanie: Looking forward to a photo of the Pumpkin Tree.
It’s a lazy day. No great effort will be spent doing much of anything today.
4:05 pm on September 9th, 2012
Beau!…Heh!…He is still at the groomers!…snort!…Some mix-up on appointments. Apparently, the groomer isn’t the sharpest razor in the room…chorkel!…She was working on a Bishon when we got there and had another Bishon to go before ole Beau gets his bath…sniff!….That Bishon was Wonderfluffed to the max!…heh!…Puff-ball!
4:07 pm on September 9th, 2012
Decision!…And before youse all ask, Yes, it was a unanimous decision to drop him off anyways….heh!heh!
4:11 pm on September 9th, 2012
Cabbage!….gah!…Someone is going to make her “More Hamburger Than Cabbage” cabbage rolls – see recipe in Dishlickers after the groomer calls and we get back with Beau….chuffle!…She is also planning on making an apple pie, but that might not happen because sometimes being in the kitchen turns out to be too stressful with her mother nag-nag-nagging about every little thing…grunt!… If she makes it through the cabbage rolls I will be proud of her stamina….heh!
4:12 pm on September 9th, 2012
TIED!!!….The Rockies and the Phillies are TIED in the bottom of the 9th inning….woooooooOOOOOooooOOOOO!…Rocks are pitching…yeeep!

Oh, and don’t start running with the safety scissors!
5:21 pm on September 9th, 2012
Our Comcast internet and phone were out this morning, maybe storm related, but who knows. They had a recorded message that said the service would be fixed by 11:44 a.m. Boy, that is precise!
Barb did more shopping. In fact, she filled the car up twice. First time she went to the local big box store (not the orange one) and bought a bunch of stuff for the carpenter/handyman to work on tomorrow. After unloading all that stuff in the garage, she drove down to the Home Goods store and picked up the new area rug for the breakfast area. Also stopped at Trader Joes. Are you all familiar with that store? Lots of organic and speciality items at reasonable prices. That is where 2-buck Chuck started in California. However, in Illinois it is $2.99. Barb bought two bottles. Might not be up to Bee’s Cahours standards, but we may break open a bottle of Cab later.
5:22 pm on September 9th, 2012
We just got back home. The patio is a mess. Looks like we will have to SWEEP.
5:22 pm on September 9th, 2012
Thank you, Dawson, I found Macy’s post.
Mollys Mom: The situation Macy’s Mom finds herself in is almost beyond belief…One Step Beyond.

5:59 pm on September 9th, 2012
Book!…Have I told youse guys how absolutely brilliant, and so very very funny, A Fistfull Of Collars is?…snort!…Well, it is! It is absolutely wonderful and we aren’t even close to being half way done….chuffle!…Just Brilliant! Brando!…snort!…So far he reminds me a lot of our very own Alice…heh!heh!…Only in male form.
6:00 pm on September 9th, 2012
Macy, we are so sorry we missed your rant! It really makes you wonder about some of the rules and regulations at schools. Mom wouldn’t go back to teaching on a bet….and she taught 11 & 12 grade students!
6:02 pm on September 9th, 2012
I had a lovely fake Merlot. Barb and MagPie, I am envious of your nesting.
Dear Macy’s Mom. Sometimes you just can’t please people. No matter what. The first year I taught 3 weeks in some “lady” took it to be her job to tell me that my students were failing and because they were paying for this that was not acceptable. So I created clubs for the students to come to for help. It was fun and great. At the end of the grading period everyone had a C or above.
I was told by the same woman that that was NOT acceptable because I had to have some “D”s in there.
What? The students had worked VERY hard and had earned those grades and I’m just supposed to hand them “D”s?
I stopped listening to her.
6:12 pm on September 9th, 2012
Hi Maila! Love the photo!
Okay, so now I can confess something to youse guys. My boy Cody had a Kat who has some kits. Mom and Dad took one of kittens. But for a number of reasons (such as holes in the doors, too many roommates, illegal Kats, etc) Cody was almost evicted. So mom and dad took in Daisy, the mama Kat. She is very shy so mom put her in the sewing room and fed her canned cat food twice a day. She finally became braver and when she started coming up to mom for loves, mom decided to leave the sewing room open at night so she could explore.
Except…..that the garage door was open. Yep, this shy little thing went into the garage and out the doggie door. That was a month ago. Mom and dad have been leaving food out for her, but me and Gus found it every single time! I mean, who could blame us? Two weeks ago, mom and dad had a Daisy sighting, and mom and dad got smarter at leaving food out.
And then today, dad found her and brought her in and now they are never going to let her outside again!!
Mom can finally forgive herself.
6:15 pm on September 9th, 2012
PUPPIES!!!!
Wƶlfie, glad your Mom’s mama kit came back. Our neighborhood has indoor Kats. Too many coyotes to have them outside.
6:19 pm on September 9th, 2012
Kats!…I think all Kats should be out-doors all the time…snort!…Just one guys opinion.
6:22 pm on September 9th, 2012
Sneeze!…Well, they finally picked me up from the groomers…sputter!…I was there all day long behind bars like a common criminal….sputter!sneeze!… I got a bath and then got dried and then I waited and waited and waited after I had waited and waited and waited before the damned bath ….sputter!sneeze!sputter!….The only good thing was I got to meet two french models…heee!
6:33 pm on September 9th, 2012
Beau, did you behave yourself while Rio and your friend were gone yesterday?
6:40 pm on September 9th, 2012
Beau: Ooh la la!
Soon, very soon, very very soon we will all be reading FOC. I CAN”T WAIT!
Wolfie: Thank dog you found that cat.
Maila: Cool dogs!
I’m trying a recipe I had once before made by A Catty Librarians German mother-in-law: rouladen. I hope this recipe tastes as good as hers did. It was delish.
6:57 pm on September 9th, 2012
Wolfie, your mom and dad did good to keep looking for her. She was probably always “just there” but not “seeable”. What happened to the kittens?
7:27 pm on September 9th, 2012
I had to look up Rouladen. Sounds WONDERFUL.
bacon, onions, mustard and pickles wrapped thinly sliced beef and then cooked.
Wow, How can it not taste good! Bacon, onions, meat? Not sure about the pickles.
How do you cook it?
7:36 pm on September 9th, 2012
Thanks all for the support on Mom’s rant. She will try to be patient and wait for things to get better, but I must confess, she tends to be a “glass half empty” type.
Dad just got his first assignment as a substitute teacher’s aide and he is a little freaked out. First thing, he is assigned to the 3-5 year old class that is made up of kids with disabilities from A-Z. That doesn’t worry him, he is just afraid that he will be changing diapers all day. Heh-heh, he should have to tend to newborn puppies all the time and those diapers would start to look a lot better! Mom offered him a swimmers nose clip, but…
Long before my time, in fact back in the days when the folks were Kat People, the neighbor girls came over and said that their dad was going to flush their kittens down the toilet, and well long story short, they wound up with Callie, to go with Kasie. Callie was an escape artist extraordinaire, and once she did not return. After a week, they heard here crying up a tree down the street and were able to entice here down with some of Morris’ tasty cuisine. At this point she was just a kitten herself, but you guessed it, before long they had a teen pregnancy on their hands. The funny part was that mom was in the same condition with out girl Angie. It was summer, and hot, so when mom would have ice cream she always got some for Callie too.

This morning I woke up from some dream realizing that I was an optimist.
Unfortunately, I can’t remember the dream.
I don’t remember why I’m an optimist.
Carpola.
8:25 pm on September 9th, 2012
No one answered my question about the satire in the Chet and Bernie series. No one knows…..
8:32 pm on September 9th, 2012
Melanie: You are sooo funny, the forgetful optimist.
You roll all that stuff in the pounded thin beef, brown in oil, add water, celery and onions and simmer on low, covered for an hour. I think the pickles make this dish. Well, and the bacon, the dijon, the onions and the beef. Like you said, what’s not to like?
8:34 pm on September 9th, 2012
Stover!…I’ve been pondering and really really thinking about it as I read the latest book…snuffle!
8:35 pm on September 9th, 2012
Beau!…Get off my logon….grunt!…Stover that was me answering you, sort of. …sniff!
8:36 pm on September 9th, 2012
Rolls!…The Cabbage Rolls are finally made. Boy do they smell good…snort!…She says Beau and I do not get even a bite because the combination of Cabbage and Pug would be explosive…wuffle!
8:41 pm on September 9th, 2012
Wolfie: What a scare for your mom and dad! So glad Daisy is home safe and sound.
Dawson is speaking French.
8:50 pm on September 9th, 2012
Rio: I’ll keep satire in mind when I start reading AFOC.
8:53 pm on September 9th, 2012
B.Stover, I do not have a brain to think about satire and OFA.
I believe that ZoĆ« and I are recovering from 6 years of dealing with doctors and Dan’s health.
Dawon, umm, what kind of pickles?
Sour, Dill, Hot, Sweet?????
Look at the time! I’ve been awake for ever!
TTFN

On that sad note I will say Good Night – Bear
8:56 pm on September 9th, 2012
Maskers!…You asked about how the murder mystery party works…snort!…All I know is Someone buys the game, there are several different themes to choose from, then that someone invites tons of people so that there will be enough who actually show up to cover all the major characters…sniff!….Character descriptions are sent out in the invitations along with other information about the other characters…wheeze!…Once at the party another envelope of information is distributed with “things” your character needs to do or say to other charactors. In the meantime you are encouraged to find out as much as you can or “sell” information about other characters…heh!heh!… After the actual Murder takes place, another envelope with more information is given out. Then the investigation part of the party starts. An investigator will talk to all the guests questioning them about what they know. It is all a ton of fun. Throw in a bunch of decorations, food and booze and you have a really great party…chorkel!…Plus, it seems like people love dressing up in costumes…grunt!
8:58 pm on September 9th, 2012
We are saying nite nite. Will be back early tomorrow. Sweet dreams all.
9:06 pm on September 9th, 2012
Melanie: Dill pickles. I opened a jar that was here of Norwegian dill pickles. They had jalapeno slices in the jar and they were hot. Who knew? The hot mostly cooked out of them.
Rio: That mystery party sounds like a whole lot of fun. What happens to the murdered person? Do they have to lay there all night or go home or slump over in a chair taking gulps of booze when no one is looking?
9:08 pm on September 9th, 2012
Question!…Maskers, your question was how is it decided who the murderer and victim are…sniff!…I do believe that is up to the person who assigns the characters. The one who paid good money for the game…heh!heh!…My friends friend bought the game and she would give nothing away, only saying everything is “pre-ordained”…snorkel!…We do know the smart thing is to give those parts to people you can really rely on coming to the party….heh!heh!…It would really throw a wrench in the whole thing if the killer or murder victim do not show up…chuffle!
9:14 pm on September 9th, 2012
It does sound like fun! How did Beau take missing the party?
9:15 pm on September 9th, 2012
Victim!…Dawson, no!…hah!…The victim does have to lay there for some time while information is read by the “Investigator”….chorkel!…This was the time Pepper and I took the opportunity to sniffle him all over and make sure he was not really dead….heh!…Once everyone is busy reading their new information the murder victim quickly gets up and goes over to the bar area where he sits out the rest of the party while everyone else tries to figure out who killed him….snort!

10:40 pm on September 9th, 2012
Rio: I will banter while I grab something to eat tonight. I Should be available somewhat on Wednesday night and I’m not sure yet about Thursday night. I’m on the road all week for work—first in the interior of Alaska and then on Kenai peninsula. I will banter as much as possible. Snort!

Bella: Have a good trip. When do you return?
10:46 pm on September 9th, 2012
Masquers: I get home on Friday night. We’ve been invited to a costume party. The movie Grease is the theme. So far, I’m having and difficult time getting a certain Giantf to agree to dressing up. In the end, after a week on the road for work, I don’t know if I will have the energy. Snort!
10:46 pm on September 9th, 2012
Rebecca!…Good to know! I hope you are eating healthy while you are on the road…snort!…Slim Jims are always a good choice. Or bacon. Bacon is tops…cough!

Rio: the village I am traveling to lacks places to dine. I have been fortunate in the past that the owner of the B&B has shared her dinner with me as well. As a back up plan, I stopped at the store and bought beef jerky, dried fruit and granola bars for my travels

Hello and goodnight all. Mama spent all day packing – we were very worried, but then she packed our leashes ad harnesses and our best toys. So – it must be BEACH TIME!!! Woo hoooo!
Not sure what kind of access we will have to the web either. Some years there is – and some years there isn’t. But we will be in touch when we can. In between bites of lobster and sitting watching the waves.
Yup – its tought being a Corgi.

Masquers: Is Nana feeling better?
11:22 pm on September 9th, 2012
Rebecca!…I know you are traveling for your busy-place, but those Corgies are Not!….grunt!…Those Corgis get a vacation come rain or shine every stinkin’ year…grunt!…My friend better figure this out or I will be packing my little knapsack and hiking across the country to live with Golinka and her clay…sniffle!
11:24 pm on September 9th, 2012
Rio: I would love for you and your friend to have time in that cabin in the woods that doesn’t get cancelled, or maybe even a vacation north to alaska someday. That is my dream for you (and a little bit for me, too).

Bella: Thanks for asking. All here are feeling back to normal. The Emergen-C (along with my expurrt care did the trick.
