A Fetch Too Far

“Here’s a nice story,” Spence says.

“The moral being – don’t litter,” says Admin.

“And we’re glad Lola’s okay.”

Good morning, Masquers, Chet, Spence and Admin, and everybody,

How is Admin mocking you, Masquers?

Hey, look at this great gift that we received for Christmas…sort of says it all, doesn’t it?

Will look at all the links from last night and this morning after back from a good time. Some info on Johnny Depp.

He’s a producer on at least 13 films up through 2015. He’s acting in at least 5 films through 2013. There’s going to be a Pirate of the Caribbean 5. He’s in it.

And he couldn’t let a Native American play Tonto????

We have missed a lot during our Christmas vacation sounds like…are we complaining about Johnny Depp? Mom says she never understood why so many people are infatuated with him.

As promised, Mom’s favorite Christmas gift…

I have never understood the whole Johnny Dep thing. We did not like the pirate movies, Alice, or any of his other movies.

And don’t even get me started about Tom Cruise!

That was a great rescue strict! I hope the dad feels bad!

Dawson’s question is also my question…ms for book 5??

Dawson: I have a paperback copy of Lighthouse that I’d be happy to give you. It isn’t the one I used for teaching so it’s not filled with notes but there are a few notes in it. I’d need your address. If either Wolfie or Melanie has your address I could get it from one of them via email.

    10:20 am on December 30th, 2011

That looks like my SK hat but mine is black. Kat’s hat looks black in the picture.

  18. OleyHowlers
    10:44 am on December 30th, 2011

Yes, it does look black. Its a very dark green (sort of blue-green). Mom loves it. But get this…when she asked our pop to get it for her as a Christmas present, he thought it was goofy, but he ordered it from stormykromer.com as a present for her. Now, he is so jealous of this hat that he ordered himself one! It is the greatest, most comfortable hat that either of them ever had! The ease of a baseball cap, and the warmth of a wool cap.

p.s. Kat really didn’t enjoy wearing it though.

  21. B.Stover
    10:59 am on December 30th, 2011

Thanks TC. I just single clicked on the picture before. That is funny! (As with the Hitchens quotation yesterday from Bluecat contrasting cats and dogs’ personalities, I wonder if it’s true. Is it, instead, the human’s perception of the difference? I’ve had cats that were very loving though independent. Perhaps it’s “independence” that needs clarification.)

Hey Guys, sorry I’ve been away from the blog all week. I was too busy enjoying my mommy’s lap while she was enjoying her book. It’s been a very satisfying week for us cats. I just went back and looked at Masquer’s link to the cat covers…love them! And then we looked at Alice’s video of the cat and the card…hysterical!

As to Johnny Depp and Tom Cruise…Mom and I don’t like either of them.

Mom says to tell Barb that the book with the date in the title was the best book she has read in years, other than C&B books, of course. Daddy is finishing it up now too. She says to tell Rio that she has not read SK books in a long time because he got too gorey(sp?) and wierd, but this book is excellent…even better than his previous masterpiece IT.

King!… I think the last book we really enjoyed of King’s was IT…snort!…Although, the giant spider part was a big let-down in my opinion…sniff!….The clown scared the fur right off of me…wuffle!…Maybe if she sees this latest one on the Bargain Books table at some point, she will buy it and we will give that guy one more chance….grunt!

Kromer!…I think the Howlers should send Kats photo to the Stormy Kromer people…sniff!…Who knows, they might use her in their advertising…heh!

On movie celebs – sometimes people mistake the character for the actor and only think of the actor in terms of their roles.
We like to see some of these celebs on talk shows like Letterman. Then the real personality comes out. Depp was on recently – he does have just a touch of egomania(understatement). Mark Harmon,(who we really like in NCIS) has got to be one of the world’s most boring interviews ever. There was a popular sitcom actor on recently who got big applause when he came out, and then he proceded to make a complete a s s of himself – rude, high, not funny, gross. By the time he was done
the audience wasn’t laughing, or clapping or even paying attention. Bet the ratings go down on whatever his show is.

We need a (photoshopped?) group portrait of Plunderers in their Stormy Kromers. Melanie is adorable in her eggplant hat. So pretty with her dark hair, dark eyes and fair skin.

  30. Barb & Maggie
    12:25 pm on December 30th, 2011

We don’t have much to add to the discussion about the actors. I like Depp better than I used to, just because he seems to have a stable family life and is a seemingly good parent. At lease he is still wtith his children’s mother. That, in itself, is unusual in Hollywood.

    Can’t stand Tom Cruise. Yuck.

As far as choosing an actor for Tonto, unfortunately the movie moguls look more at a star’s popluarity and ability to draw an audience to the theaters. Unless it a documentary, they don’t seem to be too concerned about political correctness or accuracy. $$$$ is what it is all about.

Thanks for the link, Chet. Mom was going to watch this on the news this morning but we had to leave for the dog park. We are very glad that Lola was rescued and we hope her family is a little wiser on their next hike.

I like Rio’s idea of sending Kat’s picture to SK.

  32. Masquers
    12:35 pm on December 30th, 2011

Rio: Thank you for the Happy New Year card. That was very nice of you and Beau – you even included the Lurkers.

T.C. The remark pertained to “litter” as in Kitty Lit…from yesterday. I must say your kat gift was great and says it purfectly.
BTW: Thank all youse for the nice comments. I feel much better today. (And, to Macy’s Mom, the scritch was very appreciated!)

Mom wants to order a SK, in pink like Bella’s, to match her pink snow boots. Haven’t had much use for winter gear so far, but the hat is so kool looking it won’t matter.

I was confused at first, thought why are they sending Kat’s pictures to Stephen King.

Should we check out IT? Is it as good as that date book?

Yes, we hope Lola’s folks don’t make that same mistake again. Take your garbage home or to a trash can!!!

Whoops, It was Stover’s idea to send Kat’s photo to SK. Good idea.

Mom and I both think Kat is a whole lot better looking than Johnny Depp. So is The Hot One, Dima, and all the rest of you dogs and kats on the blog.

Yark! Rio and Beau’s card won’t open for me.

TC, This is just a heads up here, but not all dogs come to their owners when called.

O.Howlers: It’s nice to have you back. Kat does look a little po’ed about wearing the hat (lol)
Yes, it would be a great pic to send to the Stormy Kromer folks. Only 10 more days and we’ll know who won the contest!

Alice: Your link from yesterday was one of the best we’ve seen in a long time and Basil’s reaction to it was priceless!

Barb&Magpie: Depp definitely has big financial interest in the movie. We agree – He no doubt thinks he will be a big box office sensation.

The New Year’s card is very nice. We love how it goes thru all the seasons, ending with our personal favorite: winter!

Barb, IT was very good, but it is very scary too.

It just occurred to us that we have not yet posted a picture of our Iditarod Dreams dreamcatcher hanging in our living room, so here it is. Can’t see it’s detail, but that was visible on the auction site. We just wanted to show youse how beautiful it looks on our wall.

Barb, that is not our home. It is another home in our area, painted by Julia Longacre…we have a bunch of her paintings in our house.

Yes, “pray” tell. We may as well stop worrying about the iPaw errors. I know when anyone else makes them we automatically read it correctly. Hope you guys do the same.

B&M: That is a funny though – sending Kat’s photo in the hat to S. King instead of S. Kromer. Doesn’t Stephen King have Corgis?
IT was very good and also scary. We read the book along time ago. Were you the ones who said to read Water for Elephants before watching the movie? Now we are in a conundrum – suddenly having both on hand.

Had a great time today. Lots of decorated Christmas trees. After a while you just thought, “Okay, seen that one” even if you hadn’t.

I’m glad those of you with SK hats like them. I would never point you in the wrong direction with a SK hat. When they called AJ to notify them he was a finalist, they asked him if he was aware that I was wearing a SK hat in the picture Melanie sent in. He replied that my hat had sparked somewhat of a following.

In case anyone is interested, AJ’s Iditarod bio has been updated. http://www.iditarod.com. Its under the 2012 race information, musher listing. 🙂

SH: It was Rio who suggested that Kat’s picture in the Stormy Kromer be sent to SK. I suggested that Howlers send the description of the hat: “The ease of a baseball cap, and the warmth of a wool cap.”

I wasn’t going to comment on this. However….I like Johnny Depp and think he is a fine actor. I am sorry, though, that they did not cast a Native American for the part of Tonto in the film.

I don’t remember who mentioned the phrase “pray tell” but it made me curious so I did some research. In Medieval England, “pray” meant “please” and was probably derived from “prithee” meaning “I pray thee” as supplication.

Here is a quotation which I think is hilarious. It’s Benedick to Beatrice in Much Ado about Nothing: “I pray thee now, tell me for which of my bad parts didst thou first fall in love with me?”

Rio (and Beau) love the card. Iditarod info is exciting and SK hats must be very comfortable. Kat is adorable.

Speaking of the other SK, is IT really that good? I haven’t read SK but the numbers one is waiting on a Kindle for us.

Bee – have you lived with a cat? It seems to me dogs want to be with their people most of the time and cats want to be with their people some of the time, at the cat’s convenience. I wasn’t going to comment either (the Plunderers are a tough crowd!) but I liked Chocolat and Finding Neverland and I enjoy Depp’s performances. He is making a mistake with Lone Ranger casting. Mom faithfully watched the Lone Ranger on Saturday mornings, back in the day. Yes, she’s older than dirt.

Happy 2012 to all. May each of us find exactly what our hearts desire in the coming year – may there be peace and prosperity and love and laughter. Thanks for friendship, Plunderers.

Just catching up – slow day in CLL.
Masquers- lol- Kat in the Hat. Tee hee

We would tell you the name of the actor that was such a jerk on Letterman , but we don’t remember it. Might have been Josh? He had curly, dark hair and an obnoxious, self congratulatory, nervous laugh.

Mama is woefully ignorant of tv actors names. She watches both NCIS, Bones, Mentalist, Castle and sometimes CSI. But she can only name Ted Danson, Paulie Perrette , Mark Harmon and LL Cool J. She just doesn’t pay attention. She doesn’t watch sitcoms or reality shows, so she doesn’t know any of those folks either.

Ok, Rio, you were not fast enough for us so we answered our own question. An umlaut is a diacritical accent that makes a vowel sound differently. Sooo, how would Beau be pronounced? An umlaut sounds like it should be an Icelandic spear.

T & G’s Mom, we like many of the same shows. We love Bones, The Closer and The Mentalist. Don’t watch Castle. Also will not watch reality shows or sitcoms. We don’t like the super shoot-um-ups violent ones either.

Macy’s Mom: Enjoy New Year’s while you are still relatively young.

Rio and Beau: Thanks for the sweet New Year’s card.

I like: T.C.’s cat; Kat’s SK hat; OleyHowler’s dream catcher and Mollypop’s mom in a play. I wonder if she has a speaking role?

I’m going for a nap because there is a big card game tonight, involving lots of quarters.

  82. B.Stover
    6:41 pm on December 30th, 2011

In English the umlaut is used to show that two vowels that are together in one syllable are pronounced separately (Noel for example. The “e” should have an umlaut.) “Eye” is an example of “glided vowels” when there is a slight shift in tongue movement to make the sound. (It’s called a dipthong.) They don’t require the umlaut.

    Here ends the phonology lesson.

Dawson, good luck on the game tonight.

If it’s a “reading” of a play, does anyone speak out loud? I asked YSAS this and he wasn’t polite.

Macy, Zoë said, “you mean some people don’t have to scroll?”

    Greetings All:

The Prof and I are back from the little cottage. The R&R did us good. I have to go back to work on the 2nd, the Prof does not.

Boy, lots of activity here on the blog. My two cents:

Masquers: The Prof and I laughed at your book covers from yesterday. The Prof really liked “Paws.” I am sending you scritches and rubs.

    TC: I love your cat!

Rio and Beau: That was a lovely card!

Poor Kat. She looks highly mortified to be wearing that hat. But, I know she did it for the love of her mom.

Speaking of actors (or so-called actors): Tom Cruise…HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. And Johnny Depp, PUL-LEEZE. I don’t understand what he’s all about. I know that he was one of the producers on “Hugo.” Apparently, he was going to play a small role (Django Rhinehardt) in the film, but his schedule wouldn’t permit.

I remember a looong time ago, Crispin Glover was on Letterman and was acting stupid. He was far from funny, and threw a karate kick at Letterman. Glover immediately got the hook. And the guy that played Kramer is not very funny being anything but Kramer.

Rio: Please tell your friend I respect her taste in acctors. I love Kevin Spacey. When she met him, did he treat her nicely?

OH: I really wanted the Iditarod Dreams, but I see now that it is in its proper place. It looks just beautiful!

  112. Tupper and GillyFlöwer
    9:54 pm on December 30th, 2011

Rio – Tupper here. Actually, Gilly’s name has always been GillyFlower (sans the umlaut)
When Mama adopted her, she wanted a name that spoke to our Welsh heritage, but none of the Welsh names she could pronounce seemed to fit.
Then Mama came across a web site that talked about how in Wales, Corgis are considered to be the steeds of the little folk and fairies. When the fairies ride them, they decorate the Corgis with wreaths of bright colored flowers, which the Welsh call gilly flowers.
Of course, when Mama gave her that name, she thought this poor abused little baby dog was going to be a delicate little lady…
    Well, not so much.
So most of the time now, we refer to her as the GillyMonster.

    10:20 pm on December 30th, 2011

Hi Howlers – When Mama adopted Tupper, her name was (ick) “Dusty Rose” Can you beleive it?
Mama is a big fan of Agatha Christie, but the idea of calling such a pretty little Corgi “Agatha” or “Miss Marple” didn’t seem to work. But she always liked the Tommy and Tuppance series of Agatha’s books – and she thought she might get a second Corgi some day – maybe a boy.
Oh well, so she got a tom-boy instead.
