A Change Is not Gonna Come
“Any New Year’s resolutions this year?” Spence says.
“I resolve,” says Admin, “to be exactly the same in every respect all the way down to the microscopic level. Or more so.”
“The exact same resolution as last year?”
“That’s the whole point.”
Welcome adventurous dude, Lyric.

Hilton is very handsome and does not look like a prima donna at all or in any way…
9:28 am on January 2nd, 2014
Good morning, everyone! We don’t like New Year’s revolutions, very scary 🙁
Today have a (choose one): a) snowy, b) sunny, c) soggy d) soupy or e) allof the above Thursday.
9:29 am on January 2nd, 2014
Admin: I think that is an excellent New Year’s resolution.
It has been snowing here for over 24 hours, the wind chill is minus 3 (minus 15 tonight) and the Weather Channel is using words like “bitterly cold.” I think we have enough snow to satisfy even Siber-H.
Good morning all.
9:54 am on January 2nd, 2014
Snowing with a vengeance here. Plans are to snuggle up on the couch with whatever Corgis happen to be around, and watch lots of movies.
Diane – Plunderers are all the regulars here on the blog. We are so named by the illustrious Prof Bee who used to admonish her students to “plunder their brains” for creative solutions. When all else fails, keep calm and Plunder on!
10:00 am on January 2nd, 2014
Admin: We agree with B, that is a Good Resolution.
For you. As for us, as Bob Dylan says, The Times They Are a Changin. Hey! It’s a new year, right?
Hounds: We will choose Soggy & maybe a touch of Soupy for this day.
Thinking of Bella losing little bits of Wisdom (teeth) today.
Good Morning DianeC, Royal Mum & All.

10:29 am on January 2nd, 2014
Good morning everyone. Snow has stopped here for now but more is expected in the next couple of days. Josh has a few plow contracts in Lake County which is closer to Lake Michigan than we are. They already have 13″ and are expected to get another 5-6″ of “lake effect snow”. Josh is getting tired of plowing, but is thankful for the work since the bike business is slow till spring.
Barb says we will go thru 50 lbs. of bird seed within a week. The visitors have all told their buddies and now our backyard is the hang out place.
10:37 am on January 2nd, 2014
Change!…I’m not gonna change either, so there!…snort!
10:38 am on January 2nd, 2014
An interesting resolution. snicker
OTAS and Glad should be boarding at anytime. They have a gap between storms and should be able to leave. Unless they are going south by way of Chicago.
We’ve had a Blue Jay and a Cardinal this morning. The Chicadees have been wary when the big birds are at the feeder.
The Chief has said no going out in this weather unless an emergency. Then you have to take extra flashlights, blankets and water. We’ve had 5 inches of snow. We have reached our high of 12 degrees (not counting wind chill). Just going to get colder from now on.
Going to call the doc’s office and IF he can get in tomorrow we will talk on the phone.
10:53 am on January 2nd, 2014
I wouldn’t want you to change Rio.
I had to look up Sam Cooke. Very sad story–a real-life mystery that still may not have been solved.
It is always fascinating to me that the birds seem to know where the food is. I think I have more birds this year than ever before.
Let us know Melanie.
10:54 am on January 2nd, 2014
No snow here. Only rain and 43 degrees. Siber must making travel plans to visit some of you on the east coast. Heh.
Melanie: Talking on the phone…we are okay with that.
11:02 am on January 2nd, 2014
Change…moi? I agree with Admin & Riö…never! Why? because then I wouldn’t be me. You wouldn’t know who I was.
11:23 am on January 2nd, 2014
I have called and the receptionist and I agree that we hat this kind of winter weather. Apologies to the Sibes on the blog.
On the coast of MA they will be having blizzard conditions. So my call will depend if the doc can make it in!
The birds are puffed up and look like two birds in one.
11:33 am on January 2nd, 2014
Wooo Hooooo – things are starting off well for the new year:
1. Last night, the Storyteller had a terrible pain in his tooth. Oh no. Dentist and dental bills. But then- NO! He just had a pistachio caught in his bridge. Brush teeth- problem solved.
2. Dropped most of a peanut butter and banana protein shake on a large rug. Oh no – means a trip out to the laundromat in this weather to use a giant machine. But then -NO! We forgot that Corgis are just furry vacuum cleaners. After they were done, a damp paper towel removed any final trace.
3. Oven wasn’t working and we all know this means service call and big bucks and probably no oven for a while with the storm and all. But then – NO! Called the company and got a lovely young man who said to try “rebooting” before calling for expensive service. Simply unplug the oven for 5 minutes and then re plug. Success! And free!
Please, please, let this be a year of easy solutions!
11:42 am on January 2nd, 2014
How wonderful, Royals! Stay snug and safe in your cinnamon house . .
I don’t think I told you that Zoë went to her Chair Yoga group yesterday and they had a party. It was at an underground Hobbit House. She enjoyed herself and said the house was warm. Something we enjoy up here.
Just looked at the new forecast warning. Tomorrow’s high now 2 degrees with a wind chill factor of -23.
11:45 am on January 2nd, 2014
Rio, if you changed, we wouldn’t know who you were (and we might not like the change)
Melanie: hope you can phone conference. Paws, tails and goofy newfie eyes crossed.
Masquers: Soggy, we got it 🙁
HRH B and B&M: Keep feeding our avian friends.
Tupper’s Mama: Great news on 3 for 3. Stay on the couch, After the pistachio, avoid popcorn today.
We are at 40F dropping all day…soggy and a half, down to 19F tonight. May have some snow but no accumulation. Bet we get icy roads, though. We are ready to hunker down if needed 🙂 🙁
11:50 am on January 2nd, 2014
Melanie, Glad that you have opted for a phone conference rather than trying to make the drive.
Barb is going to venture out for a quick run to the grocery store. Streets have been plowed, so she will be ok.
11:52 am on January 2nd, 2014
Good morning! BRRRRRR melanie, we are going to have frigid temps plus lots of wind, but not as bad as you have it.
The snow is supposed to start here ~3:00 and last thru the night and into tomorrow morning. It will be 0 with very strong winds to cause lots of drifts. Yet, Mom and Pop have an appointment in Philly tomorrow, at Penn U. We told them they’re nutz. They are never going to make it.
Diane, you are no longer questioning why Rio has “Evil” in his name are you? Seems he answered you as only he can. Heh heh,
When the Iditarod is on and most of us are glued to our screens focusing on AJ’s little green flag moving up mountains, and down rivers, and over sea ice, you will have a chance to catch Iditarod fever too.
12:00 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Maggie: Oh No! Barb isn’t one of THOSE people who venture out to the Store in a Snowstorm, is she?
Someone is beginning their year with Positive Results. Way to go Royals!
12:01 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Now that the holidays are over and winter is truly here, we got one thing on our mind:
http://youtu.be/JP9dDSqG1h0
12:11 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Oleys, Thanks for that song by Hobo Jim. We will be going around with that song stuck in our heads all day.
Bear, Barb is NOT one of those! She stayed home all day yesterday while it was snowing. Our driveway is plowed, streets have been cleared, and there are just a few snowflakes in the air. She will be fine.
12:15 pm on January 2nd, 2014
This is how you know when your kat is fully charged.
Sunny and cool here, nary a flake in sight. Unless you count Belle.
12:18 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Hey Macy! Pffffft!
12:29 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Howlers: That got us in the mood!
Macy: chortle
12:45 pm on January 2nd, 2014
OH: Thanks for the Hobo Jim song 🙂
12:45 pm on January 2nd, 2014
I like Admin’s New Year resolution. Me neither, I am not changing. I wouldn’t know where to begin.
I know you guys explained to Diane about us, the Plunderers, but I also don’t mind being thought of as a kennel….kinda cool.
Melanie, I am glad you are not going out in this storm. We would have really worried. This is a bad one with very low temperatures. If I can believe the weather people, Spence is under a blizzard warning.
Fifty degrees, blue skies and sun here today. gah
12:47 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Rio, I love you just the way you are!
B., my Puzzle Store was delivered from Amazon this morning but I don’t have a puzzle. I haven’t been able to go on a raid to Sam’s – her boy has the flu even though he had a flu shot. All is not lost since my hotel is on Main St. and a toy store is one block away. I am going to walk even though the storm is raging.
12:51 pm on January 2nd, 2014
I wonder how Bella is doing now. Do you think she has any teeth left? I met her, and it seems to me that all of her teeth must be very wise, because she is so smart. So therefore: they must have yanked all of her teeth!
I am going to blur Way Up North so I can give her belly rubs and lots of smooches, just in case she can’t find any other dogs who can do that for her.
Melanie, i could pick you up on my way, and drop you off with your doc. But you will need to read the GPS. That GPS thing is not my forte.
12:55 pm on January 2nd, 2014
My New Year’s resolution is to get my calendar page up on time each month. It lasted about as long as all of the other ones I’ve made.

1:04 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Barb&Magpie: Heh, heh…Just Kidding (but be careful).
TYB: That’s Funny…but we don’t care how late you are as long as we are here on the Blog with us.
1:09 pm on January 2nd, 2014
We are now 4 for 4: The electric recliner stopped working even though it was plugged in – the Storyteller scouted around underneath and found a internal connection was unhooked. Hooked it and AHA! Reclining again.
Macy – we thought the electrified Kat was hilarious. Basil and Sage – well, not so much.
Also Macy – we heard the news story last night that Texas now has a 8.5% sales tax on bar drinks although they were not previously taxed at all. Gramp would like to know if there is sales tax in Texas on other stuff.
Siber – if you can figure out how to blur here and fit into a Corgi suit, we will glad change places with you.
1:20 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Tupper&Gilly: Wow! Youse are on a Roll. Can we borrow some of that Good Luck? The NEW hot water heater is out. Probably something as simple as a breaker switch, but Nana can’t find it.
1:22 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Macy,
Love the cat charger.
1:35 pm on January 2nd, 2014
More on the theme of the day: This quote about resolutions:
“Many years ago I resolved never to bother with New Year’s resolutions, and I’ve stuck with it ever since.” — Dave Beard
1:43 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Our New Year resolutions:
1. Shed all over everything, whenever possible
2. Scoff up any food-like substances that hit the floor
3. Look for opportunities to box, seal and ship any Wrotten Kats
4. Bark at passing cars, falling leaves and fuzzbutts
5. Be as adorable as possible, especially when asking for tummies
6. Stay in touch will all our family on Chet’s Blog
1:43 pm on January 2nd, 2014
BStover: I wouldn’t have noticed that Sam Cooke reference. Thanks. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7tupr_sam-cooke-a-change-is-gonna-come_webcam
Gravity makes my resolutions whether I like it or not.
1:45 pm on January 2nd, 2014
T&G, I wish I could trade places with you. You would need a Siberian Husky suit here so mom wouldn’t know I am vising the other side of the country.
Masquers, That dog and kat cartoon is funny, but that could be me setting in the kat’s chair. I don’t do fetch.
I hope all goes well for Rebecca today.
1:47 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Hi Tyb, I’m swooning to have a personal shout out!
Yes, Texas has sales tax on most things except grocery food. Restaurant food, yes. But we do not have state income tax. Which we would not mind since we barely have an income, heh!
Royals, does your electric recliner massage? Mom would be very sad if her purring chair did not purr.
Nana, sigh, you are just not meant to have hot water, it seems.
1:57 pm on January 2nd, 2014
2014 POSTAGE RATE UPDATE! Postage Rate for First Class Mail Letters (1 oz.) to go up to $0.49 in 2014!
Quick! Go out and buy more Forever Stamps!
Dawson: Thanks for the link which explains a lot. We, too, did not notice Sam Cooke tag until B mentioned it.
2:09 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Fetch? Thea’s a word? The closest we ever got to one of the Pack fetching was Grace. If you threw a toy in the pool she would run, get it and then hide it in the house.
I feel a nap coming on . .
2:11 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Bear, Barb is safe and sound back at home. Thanks for expressing concern. The parking lot was slippery, but otherwise no problems.
We just stocked up on the old fashioned light bulbs since they will no longer be selling them.. We try to be environmentally friendly, but just can not do the new light bulbs. They are dim compared to the old bulbs, plus we have heard that they are dangerous if you drop and break them. Any thoughts?
T & G Luck is in your corner. Go buy a lottery ticket!
So far our water heater is still working, after the pilot was restarted for the 2nd time. Fingers and paws crossed.
2:12 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Macy: No! Say it isn’t so.
Did someone mention Nap?
2:18 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Barb, Mom’s thoughts on the new light bulbs are the same as yours…including being dangerous if they break. They are an environmental hazzard if all the info about them is correct.
2:25 pm on January 2nd, 2014
WE have our paws crossed for OFA. Looks like Cape Cod will be ground zero for a huge blizzard. Makes mom want to reread the Laura Ingalls Wilder “The Long Winter”. How did we survive before weather people?
2:34 pm on January 2nd, 2014
HOH – the same way we do now – we just deal with what comes our way.
Weather forecasters are rarely if ever correct anyway
2:35 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Hounds: Farmer’s Almanac & Old Timer’s predictions.
Although the new bulbs last much longer they are Definitely NOT Environment Friendly.
2:44 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Bear, A nap sounds like an excellent idea. Thanks for reminding us!
2:46 pm on January 2nd, 2014
We agree on the new light bulbs. We try to use them everywhere, and they do get bright after they are on for awhile, but there are some areas (stairways, feed room) where we need brightness immediately. We think we read that they are being improved. Or maybe it is the LED lights that are much better. But they are still super expensive.
2:51 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Dawson: You mentioned fleece lined tights a while back. Good for the cold challenged going to AK this winter.
Mom doesn’t like the new bulbs either. Says they are a funny color and don’t last and our house eats light bulbs. She says they give her headaches like older fluorescent tubes.
Stand corrected on winter/weather survival in days of yore. Still the Wilder book sounds like a good idea AND mom vows to open the almanac she buys each year.
3:24 pm on January 2nd, 2014
MPM: Excellent!
3:39 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Hey BearSpiritDog, thanks for coming over and being a heating pad. Mac and Mattie were keeping Zoë comfortable. It was nice having you with me.
Going to watch the last Major Crimes.
4:03 pm on January 2nd, 2014
The Giant and my Lady are almost to the oral surgeon’s office. The chorus line of dancing giraffes are stretching and warming up. It should be a good show.
4:53 pm on January 2nd, 2014
ATTN: It is beginning to look more and more like Mom may be headed North. Dad is checking airline miles. We have sent out SDD messages to some of you, but don’t seem to have everybody’s. Since there are relatives to visit, dad wants her to stay awhile. (I think he would prefer all winter, heh). She is getting overwhelmed with trying to figure this all out. We may need an emergency nap.
4:59 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Macy, Do you mean way north, like to Alaska? If not going that far, you know we are located north west of Chicago. When and where are you going?
Barb is planning to head east with the Sister contingent in the early spring. Hoping to catch up with a few other Plunderers on the way. Maybe you would want to meet up and join her.
5:14 pm on January 2nd, 2014
All the way to Alaska, if we can figure out the logistics, like money and such. Mom would love the train trip, but they don’t take airline miles, without which, she will not be going anywhere.
5:16 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Has anyone possibly lost a sniffling, snorting, sneezing, red-eyed, plugged ears, scratchy throat head cold?
If so, don’t worry. We have it here.
5:20 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Thanks, Melanie, it was My Pleasure to keep you company for our Nap. Now off to check the Fridge!
OMD! ANOTHER Northern Traveler? This is going one Fantastic Iditarod Year!!!
SnowBella: Here we were thinking you were already on your way Home! Thank Dog the Giant is there to take care of you. Paws crossed everything goes smoothly with minimum giraffes needed for the job.
5:21 pm on January 2nd, 2014
You may keep it there!
OTAS and GLAD have made it! Short sleeves and shorts. Sigh, wishing here in Western MA.
Go for it, Macy!
5:23 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Macy, the HOH is planning on you being there!
5:26 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Macy, that is wonderful news! We are happy for you even though Barb whimped out. Are you going to stop and visit folks in the way?
5:27 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Rebecca!…yeeeep!…All day my teeth have hurt because I was thinking of you…sniff!…Now my teeth do not come together right and they ache….wheeze!
5:34 pm on January 2nd, 2014
OMD!!!! Macy’s mom is coming Way Up North !!!! Hurray! This is going to be the best partay ever!
Macy, check your SDD.
And…..we got toffee!!!!! Thank you Wolfie! We are donating $50 to the Shake Your booty fund to say THANKS!
5:45 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Macy – WOOOOO HOOOOOOO! ((((Sneeze))). We are thrilled beyond measure for you! ((((Honk)))) What a grand time you all are going to have. ((((Cough, cough, sniff))))
Jeez – we are starting to sound like a Pug!
5:46 pm on January 2nd, 2014
I wonder if all the Plunderers who are going to the Fur North will be able to understand each other. That’s a heck of a lot of accents!
5:53 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Well…Riö and I can’t go because we must be here for flight tracking…sniff.
5:56 pm on January 2nd, 2014
It is snowing lots now, and Pop is still on his way home. It is going down to 11 tonight and to 1 tomorrow night, but the high tomorrow with wind chill factored in will only be -7 !!!!!! Barb, you think we should keep the coop closed up all day tomorrow?
T&G, tuck your mom under the quilt and tell her to “stay!”
5:59 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Royal Mum: Please don’t stand too close…we don’t want to catch it…whatever it is. And, before Riö meantions it, have you taken your Airborne?
6:01 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Melanie, that reminds me, if you ask an old farmer for directions, he will tell you to go a piece up the road, or if it is really far it will be a fur piece.
6:11 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Tupper&Gilly: Make sure your Mama stays under the Quilt, even if you have to sit on her. Perhaps the Storyteller and Gramp could cook dinner?
6:11 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Oleys, I would keep it closed. Do you use any heat or artificial lighting? We never did use lighting, but when it got really cold we ran a little electric space heater called a milk house heater purchased from a farm supply store. We kept it elevated and in a location where the hens couldn’t get to it and knock it over.
6:12 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Sorry, Mama can’t come to the computer right now. We tucked real good, Basil and Sage are sitting on the bottom of the quilt, Gilly is on one side, and I, Tupper will soon be stretched out on the other side.
She has been taking her Zicam every 3 hours so hopefully she will get over this really soon((((the big sissy))))).
6:23 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Maskers!…sniff!
6:25 pm on January 2nd, 2014
We have a regular light bulb in the coop, on a timer. So it will only be on from 2:30 until 7:00. Maybe we should switch it out dor a heatlamp this week. Pondering.
6:40 pm on January 2nd, 2014
We like the idea of letting the chickens have their natural light in the winter. This cuts down on their laying, as that is tied into hours of day light and not temps. They will live longer and lay longer if you let them going into their natural cycle. Heat light would be a good idea. The little heater we got at Farm and Fleet was only about $30.00 but it would raise the temp in the coop by at least 20 degrees, which really made a difference for the hens.
7:00 pm on January 2nd, 2014
O’Howlers: Youse are very fortunate to have ChickenLady on this here Blog to give expert advice.
7:23 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Why, thank you Bear. We think we are fortunate to have you on this here blog.
7:26 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Snowing! It is snowing here in TN. It won’t stick though. We will probably have icy roads in the a m as it will be 16-19 tonight 🙁 AK prep?
T&G”s Mama, get healthy.
Rebecca, know you are dancing with giraffes now but know the Giant will take good care of you.
Mom understands the POP, but chickies??? Another critter.
7:34 pm on January 2nd, 2014

All you folks that are going to AK should go stand out in the yard for a while to get acclimated. Mom is hoping that her uncle’s (yeep) outerwear will fit. With the cold we have been having (20s at night, 30 to 50 days) the reality of Alaska is beginning to dawn.
7:40 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Yes, we know how fortunate we are to have Chicken Lady on this here blog, and we take full advantage. Mom was adamant about not using artificial light, until she realized that these guys were hatched so late, they likely wouldn’t start laying until Spring. She doesn’t plan to use a light after this first season.
7:41 pm on January 2nd, 2014
T & G’s Mom. Get well. Stay under the Quilt. Everyone around here has had the flu. So far Barb is OK, except for some minor stomach rumblings. She is still coughing though, after her mid Nov. trip to Texas.
7:44 pm on January 2nd, 2014
How now brown cow!
I cain’t wait to heah those Southern accents in Alaska.
T&G: And keep the Royal Mum there until she stops snuffling.
I received Christmas cards from Bedford, Texas, Chevy Chase Maryland and Carmel, Indiana today and a New Year’s card from Camano Island! Not sure if I ever mentioned that Barb & Maggie’s card arrived ages ago. Thank you! In appreciation of these cards I am going to donate $50. to start up a checkpoint in honor of Rescues everywhere, especially all our Chet the Dog Blog rescues and most especially of all Chet the Jet.
Checkpoint Start-up
Rescues Checkpoint now open for donations!

We received a Christmas card from Dawson today. Heh! It was our own card, returned because our address must be wrong. We just used what we used last year, but it is not the same this year, eh?
7:53 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Tupper&Gilly: Heh, heh. We haven’t forgotten your Mama talking about the two of them and their “Cooking Skills” in the past.
Macy: No-Thing can prepare you for That kind of Cold. Memories of walking over the snow on a 20 Below morning…hearing our footsteps crunching on the snow…face covered and looking like the little brother in A Christmas (“you’ll shoot your eye out!”) Story.
7:57 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Dear LucyLou, What a lovely picture of you with YOUR pillow case. I hope the Daddy Dawg shares with you a lot.
Mr.Staff has been telling me, over and over, that is is minus 31 degrees today at our North Dakota home and plus 31 degrees in Anchorage today. So we are going North to warm up.
snicker
O’Howlers, yay! 50 more dollars for the booty fund. whoop whoop Heeeee!

Here is Jem with Booties.
8:05 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Dawson, mom didn’t send you one because she’s cheap, er we don’t think she had your Canadian address, just your summer one.
Mom was WRONG. The white shiitake IS sticking. She said it is a dusting now but it doesn’t look dust to us. Pookey and I are curled up on beds. Goofy Newfie, Darah is standing out side, looking at the sky, HONKING!
8:05 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Dawson, Since you did a Double D, does that mean you are donating $100 for the Checkpoint?
Oley’s mom, we understand your reasoning.
Diane C, are you out there? We want you on the blog.
8:06 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Oops!
Heh, heh, heh!
8:06 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Rio, Just in case you forgot, your teeth never come together and I suppose that is why they hurt. Poor Baby. I hope Rebecca’s teeth are gone gone gone and she is dancing with the giraffes. I am sure AJ is taking good care of her.
I am fighting a cold. It does not have hold of me very hard so I am hoping it will let go soon.
Dawson, I made 4 more luminaries and took them out of the mold this morning. Before I felt so coldish. I have not gone out to put lights in them tonight. I figure I will stay in and continue my battle by sleeping lots.
PS I never make resolutions. I figure if I don’t want to do it saying I will do it on New Years Day will not help.
8:07 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Hounds: Lucy Lou the Labadoo? Nice photo!
Dawson: We Pledge $25 to each of those checkpoints. Our Treatie Fund can take the hit.
Have we heard from Wose today? New York was in for a Major Storm.
Hope she & Grizz, McKey & LLL, MollyPop’s Mom, LouLou & Sammie & TYB are all okay.
8:08 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Diane is lucky to live where the snow is trained to stay on the mountains and look pretty most of the time.
8:09 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Dear Dawson, You know I am a rescued kat so I will donate some whisker licking treat money to the rescue fund. Please check your SDD.

Dawson: Was that Double D for Diane C’s benefit? Visual demonstrations are always the best.

No one should be sending me Christmas cards because I didn’t send anyone a Christmas card.
O’Howlers: Pack that card up to Alaska. My address didn’t change so I’m not sure what happened.
Thanks Barb for mentioning that. I was wondering if I should double the donation. So far the answer I have come up with is no.
Bright sunshine today after a solid week of grey. Temps were supposed to be mild too so I didn’t wear my wool tights for my walk uptown. Big mistake! The slight cool breeze on the way there became freezing cold gusts on the way home.
8:16 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Mom can’t wait to meet Dawson and find out if she actually speaks in doubles.
8:18 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Dawson, that Bedford card must have gone by way of the North Pole. It was mailed at least a week before Christmas.
We just got one from Colorado a couple of days ago. Thanks!
8:19 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Dawson, you have mentioned wool tights and fleece tights. Which are better for a woosie like mom?
8:27 pm on January 2nd, 2014
This toffee is so yummy, I can’t stop eating it!
8:34 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Mom hid ours and is rationing out, almost gone (sob).
8:36 pm on January 2nd, 2014
HOH: I did not (that I know of) ever mention fleece lined tights. I have bragged of my 100% merino wool tights that I love, love, love. Because they “breathe” I think they would be better. I love my merino wool tights! I am going to take Mollypop’s&Loulou’s Moms advice when it comes to being out in the cold because she is a skier and they hang out in the cold all day long. Me, I usually run from the front door 10 feet to the car and back again. Layers, layers and possibly one more layer.
Donations: I got Staff’s donation to the Rescues.
Now BSD, Are you donating to all three open Checkpoints? I will check my SDD.
Thanks you guys! If I get one more donation tonight I will double my $50.00 donation!
8:41 pm on January 2nd, 2014
We are watching the Denzel movie now. Good night.
8:42 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Finished watching Top of the Lake last night…a strange 7 episode series with lots of twists and turns. Now you like it, Now you don’t.
Lots of shows returning…Justified, Downton Abbey, The Good Wife. Now back to Our Favorite…Damages.
SnowBella: Sleep tight. Don’t let the Dancing Giraffes bite.
8:42 pm on January 2nd, 2014
HOH, Molly’s mom talked about the two layers to wear underneath whatever you’re wearing on top. Therefore your question about wool versus fleece would mean a first layer of wool tights and a second layer of some fleece tights.
8:47 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Dawson: Please check you SDD.
Signing off – Bear

Princess, thank you. Bad memory here. Hadn’t heard of fleece tights but haven’t snow camped since the ’80’s and So Cal and TN aren’t known for wintry weather.
9:02 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Rio, where are you tonight? We miss your crooked smile and acerbic comments and it is getting late here. Want some TN snow?
9:05 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Okay,
Thanks to HOH, my donation has doubled!

I will add about those first two layers that neither of them will be cotton. That gets wet and then cold. The first two layers should be either wool or synthetic. That will wick away the moisture. We here are all skiers and have no problem with staying warm and not weighted down with heavy clothes.

T&G, TY a good resource and a great price. leave it to you to find it.
9:17 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Some of you will remember my commercials from the last couple of years where I was skiing.
9:25 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Princess Sam: Now you mention it, I do remember you up at the top of a mountain. Thank you for the latest advice.
T&G: Thanks!
Those with colds get better fast. Stay away from Melanie! (We might have to use two quilts.) Snowhook Bella: I sure hope you are home and roaming with the giraffes by now.
Still early! Well, nothing says I can’t go to bed early. Good night all and g’day to Ruby and LizF.
9:38 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Speaking of Liz, we looked up Red Kelpies after she told us about her new dog. They seem to be a herding dog, maybe a shepherd or collie type with perhaps a little Dingo mixed in. They are UKC registered but not AKC. They choose not to be AKC registered for the same reasons that English Shepherds are not AKC registered. They stress the working qualities more than conformation. Barb gets irritated because when they list the most intelligent dogs, they never list E.S. because they only rate AKC dogs. No fair! She says I would be right up there at the top.

My Lady is home. She had taken a dose of pain pills and I am tucking her under the Quilt. Act 2 of the Dancing Giraffes number will begin shortly. We thank you for all the well wishes.
Macy: Is it true! How exciting! Is your maw coming by herself or is she bringing your paw, too?
9:47 pm on January 2nd, 2014
I have just ordered some tights. And sent an SDD to Dawson.
I would rather have had Smartwool but they were 100 dollars for a pair of tights. YIKES!
10:00 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Glad Rebecca is home safe and toothless. Keep her down as long as you can, she’ll heal faster.
Wow, an actual dusting of now. Sorry about y’all with cold, blizzardy condition. Be warm and safe.
Golinka, get under the quilt and,”STAY”
To Liz & Ruby, good day. To all else, nighty night.
10:04 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Giggling! Between Golinka and my Lady with her dancing giraffes there is a lot of giggling under the quilt. I am told it was like this when they met in person.
10:18 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Someone came in and out of our house and now my legs are freezing. I need those tights STAT!
Yikes.
Bedtime here. I need more sleep since I didn’t have more than two naps today.
I hope Rio is OK down there in Colorado. It is probably cold there too. I hope his friend made it home from the busy place. We don’t care when Rio gets grumpy. Sometimes grumpy just happens and we can live with it. C’mon home Rio.
nighty tuna casserole

Hope both of you gals feel better ASAP.
Stay safe and warm everyone.
Diane C., Please don’t walk away. We would like to have a new member of the blog. We are mostly warm and friendly and will welcome you with open arms. Don’t take anything personally, you did nothing wrong.
Nighty turkey pot pie.

I had to return. I just received notification of another donation to the Booty fund. We are now up to 598.000. YAH hoooooo!
Booties here we come.

10:29 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Rio: My teeth—what’s left of them—do come together and they ache thinking about my lady.
Kat: I don’t think they pulled the correct teeth. My lady can still do math in her head. For instance, I gave her a story problem that asked if there are two slim Jims on the table how many does a Tenzing get. She calculated for a second and then said, “Both!” Her math checks out correctly.
10:35 pm on January 2nd, 2014
Staff: That team looks awfully familiar. Well done Team Shake your Bootie!
11:02 pm on January 2nd, 2014
The giraffes just dragged my Lady up on stage. Won’t they be surprised when they learn she can’t dance.
Nighty friends, new and old.
11:13 pm on January 2nd, 2014
We are worrit about OFA too with the big snow in the east. Hope he and family are cozy warm in bed.
g’night to you all here…g’day to Liz & Ruby.
Everyone under the quilt heal!
7:22 am on January 3rd, 2014
Good Morning from my nice toasty bed. Couldn’t get Chet’s Blog to load last night. Must have been us because youse guys had no trouble.
OFA (Our Favorite Author, for Diane) had anywhere up to 8 inches of snow overnight. The storm will continue on the Cape long after it has finished here in the Western part of MA. He could get up to another 8 inches of snow.
Where the clinic is seems to have been dumped on with snow. 14 to 24 inches.
The news is the bitter cold. Usually Eastern MA is more temperate because of the ocean. Not this storm. North of Boston, where we lived before, the storm surge is not too high, but the waves are between 6 to 9 feet high.
Here? I have not looked outside yet. I’m not sure if we got a foot. On the other paw it is -2 with a windchill factor of -28. Tonight we are looking at -13 with a windchill factor of -33.
Has Alaska lost it weather?
This weather reporter was helped by Masquers, the weatherKat. He blurred this way and that, diving into snow to measure it. Tested the temperature and the windchill factor with his whiskers.
A Brave Kat.

HOH contribution to weather: 18, feel like 4 🙂 Balmy with very little of the dusting snow left. A little icing on the roads/bridge. (Icing with no cake??? no fair)

Hello All–I had to do a lot of car stuff yesterday, then walk underprivileged dogs (it’s in the high 70s-80s here) and then came home and slept a lot.
I have questions for the 1/3/2014 board.
