Book!…It was too hot today to do anything outside so me and my friend ran a few errands, me in the front seat with air conditioning blaring…heh!…Then we came home and read Pug Eat Pug by Rosenfelt…snort!…That guy is so funny in a New Jersey way. I guess we will have to read more of his Andy C. books…grunt!…We have read about 3 or 4 before this latest one. His character has become spot on…heh… Love it! When we saw him on an interview with Spencer..I thought the guy was 50 percent bullsh#t. I still believe that…heh!heh!

    Oh, you found it.

That’s our family recipe. Not the same as personal instructions from my Mom but I’m sure you’ll make do.

I’m reading Rosenfelt’s new series The K Team. Crossover with Laurel, Andy’s wife, with some Andy cameos. Two out and a third coming next March.

Andy!..At first I did not warm to the character but that was because I was so in love with Bernie…heh!…But now late in Rosenfelt’s series I truly like Andy’s character. Partly because I feel Andy is totally David with another name…snort!…50 percent bullsh@t and he knows the end of the story. But he is very very funny!! I like that very much!…snorkel!

Cover!… I also love that the series has adopted a Pug…Who on the cover eats a donut…gasp!…This scenario was never mentioned in the book. A lot of muffins were mentioned but no donuts and absolutely no donuts were eaten by a Pug. Me on the Cover. I actually am the only Pug who ate a donut for this book….heh!burp!chuffle!r

MLaiuppa!…I hope you don’t mind but I am going to call you Mama Luppa from here on out…snort!…Your name is to hard to spell for a mere Pug…grunt!..mMama Luppa, my friend is a very good cook. I’m sure she will do your Mama’s recipe justice. We have so many new fresh tomatoes and do not want them to go to waste…wheeze! …So we are thankful for your family recipe!…snorkel!

Try La Iuppa. That’s the original spelling. According to a friend of my Dad’s la Giubba is derived from it. La Giubba is a frock coat but La Iuppa is the mane or coat of a Lion.

    So… ROWR!

You friend will have to guess how many fresh tomatoes will make three large cans of tomatoes. But if she cooks I’m sure she’ll manage. It’s all likely estimates anyway as my Mom got this from my Dad’s Mother who measured nothing, so my Mom probably took notes and then estimated based on her notes and what she found available. Grandma Laiuppa likely used fresh tomatoes from the garden or preserved them at the end of the summer for making sauce through the winter.

When I have that many tomatoes I preserve them in large Ball/Kerr jars. Not hard but this time of year when the temperatures are their highest, not fun to be boiling jars for 15 min. only a few at a time. It can be an all day proposition depending on how many pounds of tomatoes you have. But it’s nice to have them over the winter and until they’re ripe again.

You make a big batch of that sauce, meatballs and sausage, then you portion it out and freeze it. It always tastes better reheated.

Here’s a trick. If you have extra sauce left over but no more sausage or meatballs….crack an egg in it and poach it in the sauce. One or two per person. Makes a great meal with a green salad.

We use spaghetti, angel hair, rigatoni and even fusilli. And of course, plenty of grated Romano. Make your own pasta if you are feeling particularly masochistic.

    Not L. I. Iuppa. iuppa.

No fears. I expect there is a LOT of leeway. In other words. A lot of “to taste” measurements. Nothing that a dog couldn’t eat either. Yes, there is a bit of onion and garlic in the meatballs but such small amounts per ball I doubt even a pug would get an upset tummy. You can always stick to pasta, sauce and sausage.

We used to give the dogs the leftovers if there wasn’t enough to make another meal. I’ve yet to meet a dog that wouldn’t eat the pasta with red sauce when offered. We even had a parakeet once that used to walk around the table nibbling spaghetti off the edge of people’s plates.
