60 Minutes Last Night
Anyone catch the Anderson Cooper piece on science, the nation within, and confirmation of what some of us already knew?

Good morning, everyone! Yawn, we knew that, why not just ask us 🙂 Well, at least others are getting the message of the nation within.
Have a multi-colored Monday!
8:38 am on October 6th, 2014
Good morning Everybody.
60 Minutes should have interviewed TYB and Jay!
Happy belated birthday, dear Zoe.
9:01 am on October 6th, 2014
Good morning all. Yes we saw it and thought it was good. We have seen Chaser before on t v. Amazing the vast word recognition, but I think many dogs could achieve that level if worked with as much as Chaser. BCs have an obsessive need to work, and this is how they have used that trait. The other young, long haired guy is a prof at Duke. Will have to ask brother Dave if he knows of him.
9:10 am on October 6th, 2014
Staff, I love the quilt room. Are the cabinets maple? The cabinets look so nicely organized. I like organization. Wish I could get my garage in better order.
Did anyone tell Catty that FOC means Friends of Chet. Also, Catty, FOM is Friend of the Month.
9:13 am on October 6th, 2014
I can’t watch all of those commercials. Chaser is a good-looking dog.
Good morning all.
9:28 am on October 6th, 2014
Greetings!
Bluecat: I thought exactly the same thing!
B,M,&L: I left a post earlier this morning for A Catty, but thank you for the reinforcements. 🙂
Staff: I said this earlier too, but I love your quilt room.
Oooooops, time to get the laundry out of the dryer.
9:46 am on October 6th, 2014
Staff, your quilting room is wonderful. Mom is not jealous. Not one tiny bit. Not even a smidgen. Well, perhaps a tiny smidgen. Actually, she is green witness envy. Although she doesn’t look green to me.
9:48 am on October 6th, 2014
Wose, did you get my calendar order?
10:30 am on October 6th, 2014
Good morning all.
Staff: I LOVE your room.
Zeus: Who’s a handsome boy!?
10:46 am on October 6th, 2014
Good morning all. It’s 10:30, and we haven’t gotten a “report to the hospital immediately” call yet, so the day is off to a good start.
Staff – we join Wolfie in being green with envy over your gorgeous room. It will be an inspiration to your sewing.
Funny thing – we can post photos to the blog with our iPhone, but not from our laptop. Mike Baker – what hath thou wrought?
11:10 am on October 6th, 2014
Tupper’s Mama we have issues posting, and refreshing on the ipaw. Mom is so technochallenges, she hasn’t tried the ifone yet but since it on 8.0, we bet it’ll hiccup too.
Staff, that has got to be the ugliest room mom has ever seen. Pointless. Dark. Drab. (No, she isn’t jealous. Who’s a jealous girl?)
11:15 am on October 6th, 2014
Mmm? Ifone has been trying to upload a foto for 5 min. Mom was right, no fotos from us for a while 🙁
11:16 am on October 6th, 2014

It’s a Known Fact…(All) Most of us in the Nation Within are happiest when we have a job to do.
Staff: Many a Plunderer on this here Blog has turned Greenish With Envy over your Quilt Room. We know you will enjoy Many Happy Hours there.
(and, no wonder you were tired, it was the middle of the night. of course, many of us are becoming night owl types here of late)
Gasp! Spence might have to open up a whole New Photo Blog. Do youse realize how many photos must be on there? Will we ever have a FOTM again? Sob.
11:51 am on October 6th, 2014
Night owls? Perhaps this is the legacy from the best friend many of us never met!
11:57 am on October 6th, 2014
Staff!…We here would just love to have “a room” that someone else could never ever get into…grunt!
12:05 pm on October 6th, 2014
Good day! Add Mom to the list of Plunderers who are green with envy over Staff’s quilting room. And she does not even quilt! She thinks it is beautiful, and bright, and everything has a place. She imagines many happy hours spent singing/humming/working in that room.
Zeusiköv is letting all your compliments go to his head, which was already HUGE!
12:08 pm on October 6th, 2014
HOH you made me laugh out loud. I am so sorry you hate my quilt room. heh heh heh
I am working hard at getting more of my fabric put away. I told my local friends that we could have an open quilt room party this coming saturday so I have to get to work.
Also the rest of the house has been ignored and looks like a pit. Yeep.
BOOTY FUND UPDATE
I am hoping to have someone offer to match a donation or two for the Booty fund. You don’t have to offer to match huge amounts. I will start out by offering to match the next 5$ donation that comes in. Get in line people! 5 dollar matches go FAST!
Will anyone else offer to match any amount? I hope so! Rio is getting impatient because there is no update action….snicker
12:40 pm on October 6th, 2014
Staff…SDD…quick like a quilter!
1:08 pm on October 6th, 2014
Someone here watched all the 60 minutes segments and was quite impressed with the canine research (thanks, Chet, Spence & Admin).
Of course, it was data we here on the blog were already aware of, but still comforting to know science is finally catching up with reality.
B: Yes, the constant commercials can be irritating.
HOH: If it is one our friend sent, it is a legacy we can treasure.
Royals: For your mama’s sake, I do hope things are calming down.
1:13 pm on October 6th, 2014
Border Collie! It is always a Border Collie, but that is okay. I will give them that.
Us Sibers may be up there on the intelligent breed list. We may be smart enough to not let you humans know how intelligent we are.
Staff, Mom believes Zeus goes through screens. Oh yes, she believes Zeus goes through screens.
Mom also thinks Zeus is one handsome dude.
1:18 pm on October 6th, 2014
RIO!
The Nationals game starts at 3 pm our time on the MLB network.
1:20 pm on October 6th, 2014
I liked the link this morning. I know all the dogs know this information but the humans need to be taught.
Staff: Your quilting and sewing room is wonderful!

OK, we have received a wonderful challenge match from a super wonderful plunderer.
So there is another 30.00 available for matching funds in addition to my 5$ challenge. Match any amount you wish. 5 or 10 or 15 or whatever you little heart desires. Dogs want booties….

Staff: I liked the video. Besides showing this great project for the zoo, it shows us non-quilters how quilting is done.
2:24 pm on October 6th, 2014
Staff, We wrote out a check over the weekend for Rebecca, for our booty contribution. However, it did not get taken to the P.O. till this morning. Should be there by the end of the week.
The dog breeds that do the best on those types of trials are dogs that work closely with humans for things like farm chores. I read an interesting story from a man who was visiting a sheep farmer in Scotland. The farmer told his collie “bring in the sheep”. The observer asked when she would be back with the sheep. The farmer replied “tonight”. I thought it was amazing that the dog could keep that command in her mind for an entire day. Must not have been any slim jims or cheetos in her path!
2:55 pm on October 6th, 2014
What does that mean: Nome is on hold?
B,M,&L, We Howlers work closely with our two-leggeds on farm chores. Oh yes we do! When Mom says we are bringing horses in, we go let the horses know that they are to come in. When Mom says it is time to lock up the chickens, I go up to their yard to watch over Mom while she locks up. When it is time to ride those horses, we all accompany them, just in case. When we know that a critter is hiding out underground, we dig them up.
3:01 pm on October 6th, 2014
BM&L, Our mom has had one BC mix. Mom was her third home. !st home, boyfriend would shoot at her (in NM), @nd home in Ca, man locked her behind an electric fence…she’s climb and break. Came to mom at 12 years old. Ran once but taught our husky/shepard to run. Once she came to TN, she never ran or escaped again. Seemed like she found an acre she was happy on till she crossed the bridge at 19. Loved her as did mom. They are special as are most members of the nation within.

I am packing to head south for a routine Doctor’s appointment.
I will be out of town for two nights, starting tomorrow. Replies to SDD’s during this time may not be timely.
3:15 pm on October 6th, 2014
HOunds: That is a Very Nice Story of Your Border Collie Mix.
Yes…We would say She Was Happy…having lived to be 19 Years Old! She lived and loved every minute in Her Furever Home.
Zeus: Everyone knows how Helpful You (Howlers) Are 🙂
BarbMagpieLucy: Like Siber-H said, it’s Always the Border Collie who wins the prize.
We firmly believe that Every Breed, Every Dog has its own special job to do and will not be happy until it is a Working Dog.
3:15 pm on October 6th, 2014
Members of the nation within…DO NOT listen to Dawson. Mom bought over a months worth of treaties before we would let her contribute to checkpoints 🙂

Checkpoint Announcement
A reminder to all those who donate to checkpoints to use the snowhookcheckpoints@gmail.com to announce your donation. If there are more than one request for a checkpoint, the earliest time stamp on the email to the above address will be the one who gets the checkpoint.
Also, it is easier for us to keep track of donations if they are all in one mailbox.
Thank you to all Chet the Dog Plunderers, lurkers and Snowhook supporters!
3:22 pm on October 6th, 2014
Staff!….How about Quilting For Pugs?…snort!
Nome!…Why is Nome on Hold?…grunt!…And how does one put Nome on hold anyways?…sniff!
3:29 pm on October 6th, 2014
Staff, Mom is about to send you an email. Promise this time. She finally got around to the budget.
For those of you watching “Forever”, have you figured out the relationship between the Doctor and Abe (the old man) yet? Mom has a theory and they keep saying things that support it.
3:31 pm on October 6th, 2014
Riö: Hmmm…refresh?
3:33 pm on October 6th, 2014
BooBear: Forever…We Know, we know!.
3:47 pm on October 6th, 2014
Nome was on hold because more than one Plunderer requested it for sponsorship. Please note that it has now been assigned.
Thieves: Tell your lady to check her SDD messages, quick, like the fading daylight!
4:17 pm on October 6th, 2014
Forever!…The old man is the baby all grown-up…grunt!…You guys must have missed the scene where they showed the tatoo on the babys arm. It matches the tatoo on the old mans arm….sneeze!
4:23 pm on October 6th, 2014
Rio and BSD, plus they have said other things. Last week, Abe said something to the effect of “I know. I grew up a doctors son.” How weird would that be. To never age and watch your child grow old.
4:24 pm on October 6th, 2014
If I remember correctly, the collie that we talked about that went on a day trip and brought the sheep home from their mountain grazing ground was a regular collie – a rough coat collie, like Lassie, and not a BC.
Spent some time outside this afternoon, enjoying one of the last lovely fall days before cold weather comes. Cleaned out part of the garden and put down some mulch where we planted the hyacinths.
5:00 pm on October 6th, 2014
Rio & BooBear: So far Forever is a Good Show. Nothing Deep…Just Enjoyable. Also, nice to see Judd Hirsch again. Ioan Gruffudd Looks Familiar but don’t have a clue where we’ve seen him before.
It is hard to say So Long to the Gardens until next year. Nothing like Fresh Veggies!
5:06 pm on October 6th, 2014
BSD, he was Horatio Hornblower in the A&E series a few years ago. He starred in the title role.
5:20 pm on October 6th, 2014
BooBear!…I knew it! I knew he was Hornblower!…snort!…He hasn’t aged a day…heh!heh!

5:36 pm on October 6th, 2014
You’re right BSD. That made us tear up over here.
Also, we don’t usually tear up over human stories, but just saw one that had that affect on us. Google the CBS news end story, maybe from yesterday, about a terminally ill woman named Trisha Somers and her special request to her Angel.
5:50 pm on October 6th, 2014
We sniffed thru that video, BSD, then immediately found this one and died laughing.

6:06 pm on October 6th, 2014
BSD: Sob, sniff
O’Howlers: You naughty howlers.
6:12 pm on October 6th, 2014
Shot!…Here is something weird. My friend got her flu shot 2 weeks ago. Now a very dark bruise formed on her upper arm where the needle went in…grunt!…It is very sore and now her forearm muscles are sore…sniff!…It seems a little late for a reaction to this shot, doesn’t it?…wheeze!
6:16 pm on October 6th, 2014
OH, and THAT is why Dog created the cat!
6:19 pm on October 6th, 2014
BSD: I am only going to watch the tearful video because there is one that will make me laugh afterwards!
Checkpoint Announcement!
Willow checkpoint for CHobbit and Sadie is now fully funded!
And many more of the open checkpoints have received donations as well!
Along with a donation to the Booty Fund that I’m sure Staff will announce shortly!
Thank you from the bottom of the Snowhook Kennel sled dogs hearts!
We welcome Sadie and CHobbit to the Iditarod Trail, 2015!
6:19 pm on October 6th, 2014
Not funny, Howlers.
Not funny at all.
6:35 pm on October 6th, 2014
Howlers! What?!
6:38 pm on October 6th, 2014
But, BooBear & Rio, we Didn’t See Horatio Hornblower! So WHERE else could we have seen him/
Hurray for C.Hobbit & Sadie Bear! HURRAY!
7:24 pm on October 6th, 2014
BSD: Just did some research on Google. This actor you are speaking of was in The Fantastic Four and Titanic. Does that help?
7:27 pm on October 6th, 2014
RIO! I am worrit about your friend. I also did some research on the flu shot.
http://www.flu.gov/prevention-vaccination/vaccination/
7:40 pm on October 6th, 2014
Rio I am worried about your friend also. Two weeks is a long time for a reaction like this, but I don’t know what else it could be.
Top of the ninth. The Nationals lead 3-0
7:43 pm on October 6th, 2014
Well, I shook the money tree and sent the necessary SDDs to the appropriate people (and the money to Snowhook).
Today a crawlspace fan was to be installed as a prerequisite to sealing the crawlspace which is being done on Wednesday. I had only found one company who could do it before the deadline (at 2x the price). Today at noon I get a call that someone in the office didn’t order the fan so it can’t be installed. It takes a week to get the fan so it is a lost cause at the moment.
A person needs to be strong to handle all the plot twists of life.
7:46 pm on October 6th, 2014
Rio, These 2-leggeds have never had a bad reaction, and we don’t think a bad reaction would take this long to appear. But better safe than sorry. We hope your friend visits her v-e-t.
Mom gets her shot on Thursday.
7:56 pm on October 6th, 2014
My Mama Meash has a puncture on her face, and now her eye is a little swollen. I didn’t see what happened, but Zeus also had blood on his ear, so I am thinking those two had a squabble. Now my Mama Meash is outside in the field somewhere and won’t come in. sigh
Meantime, my other momma rode Annie tonight, under the full “harvest” moon. It was a very spooky night, with wind blowing the corn and the leaves. Momma kept singing something about ghosts and goblins and witches and stuff! I was scarit. Annie is never scarit. She is the quintessential Arabian mare. Did you know that the Bedouins prized the mares the most and only rode them into battle? The reason was that they are so brave and quiet? The mares also slept in the tents with the family. Mom and I will never understand those folks who think mares are trouble and would rather have a gelding. No way.
8:04 pm on October 6th, 2014
Nationals Win! 4-0
Could Rio’s friend have been bitten by something?
8:05 pm on October 6th, 2014
What’s this about Bruises and Scratches and Blood? Yeep!
The O’Howlers are right, Rio, tell Your Friend to see her VET, and pronto.
O’Howler’s Mom: And, with all this…you say you are Still getting your shot? Not me, Amigos, not me.
C.Hobbit: Carpola to the unannounced Twists & Turns…Not Fair.
Wose: Thank You for the Research. It helped jog a Far Memory.
8:06 pm on October 6th, 2014
Kat: You scarit? You ran the Iditarod, didn’t you? I saw our picture with all the other images of AJ and the team on Google. I think you are very brave.
I hope Mama Meash is tip-top soon, and I really hope that Zeusikov and Meash were not fighting.
8:06 pm on October 6th, 2014
Siber! This is great news! Teddy must be leaping with joy.
8:09 pm on October 6th, 2014
Kat: This is for you and your two-legged momma.

8:10 pm on October 6th, 2014
YAY! The Nationals won! Teddy and his dad must be overjoyed. Ms. Zeta too.
8:13 pm on October 6th, 2014
Well, since tomorrow is a head shrinking day, I must be off to bed. At least this session is with my therapist. I do not like my new psych very much.
I wonder how much pointier my head will be tomorrow?
Sleep well Plunderers!
8:15 pm on October 6th, 2014
Jeez, Louise. Kat, that you should be YOUR.
8:26 pm on October 6th, 2014
Wose: LOve Neil Young and Especially that song.
8:28 pm on October 6th, 2014
We got our flu shots the other day and totally forgot about them. No ache, so reactions. Nuthin.
We admit to being exhausted and mentally fried. So we will see youse guys tomorrow.
Good night, family
8:36 pm on October 6th, 2014
Wose, Neil Young is the all-time favorite in this household, and that song is one of our very most favorites of his Thank you for posting it.
For some reason, this is the song. Momma was singing to Annie tonight, under that big ole’ Harvest Moon.

8:40 pm on October 6th, 2014
Howlers, Barb’s Arabian stallion that she had back in the lat 70s and early 80s was wonderful. Booma was calm and gentle and could be ridden on a trail ride. He was old Egyptian, grey speckled or ticked. I think he was Fadyl breeding. I bet he could have lived in a tent.
8:45 pm on October 6th, 2014
SiberH!…What dawg-damned channel was that game on?….grump!…We looked and looked for it to catch the end. Of course there had to be a visitor here when my friend came home – all she wanted to do was rush downstairs and turn on the game, but NO!…growl!…It was before 6:00 though and we still could not find the game…sniff!sob!sob!…They just need to win 2 more games!!!
8:45 pm on October 6th, 2014
Horses! Someone here loves horses.
8:47 pm on October 6th, 2014
After the last two games, we opted not to watch today’s game, but are real happy with the final outcome. For that reason may not watch tomorrow either. Go Nationals!!!
8:48 pm on October 6th, 2014
Maggie, that is so cool! Arabians get such a bar wrap, and it is only because of Arabian trainers, who try to get them spooky so they look all firey in the show ring. Btw, Annie (“Psy Ann”) is half Egyptian and half Crabbett bred.
8:51 pm on October 6th, 2014
Ummm…that would be bad wrap.
8:54 pm on October 6th, 2014
Rio, It was on the MLB Channel. I posted this info for you early on the blog today, but I think you had a busy day.
8:56 pm on October 6th, 2014
Kat: Loved your video. Nice rendition. I’ll bet Annie appreciates that your mom can croon a kool tune too.
TeddyRR: Is your dad out of couch cushions?
8:56 pm on October 6th, 2014
Congratulations to the Nationals. I could not find the game on my tv either. I saw the last inning on mlb.com.
I am suddenly feeling feverish and have a sore throat. Don’t tell me I caught something from the nurses at the card game. Wash your hands! I’m going to bed early. Tomorrow’s bus leaves at 8 am sharp!
9:10 pm on October 6th, 2014
Nighty night here too.
9:13 pm on October 6th, 2014
Teddy!…Shame on youse! You and your Paw! For Shame!…sniff!…Here some of us are frantically trying to watch the dawg-damned game and you blow it off…wuffle!…This is not how a fan in October should be acting….wheeze!…October is Special! Tomorrow I will be prepared – if SiberH tells me the time and the channel…heh!heh!
9:20 pm on October 6th, 2014
Kat, you are right. One time Barb went to an Arabian horse sale held by a big Arabian breeder. She went in back and saw someone rubbing a metal rod across the stall bars. The noise had the young horse inside getting spooked. Then they brought the horse out on lead and of course it was prancing and acting all crazy. That appealed to the buyers. That is wrong!
9:42 pm on October 6th, 2014
Channel!…I guess the problem is we here do not get the MLB channel…grump!spit!…This is a serious problem…gah!
9:43 pm on October 6th, 2014
Rio, I will post the information about the game on the blog tomorrow.
9:44 pm on October 6th, 2014
Barb!…There is no end to the way humans can torture animals…sniff!spit!…I’m pretty pissed off tonight about all sorts of things…grump!
9:45 pm on October 6th, 2014
Rio, Are you sure you don’t get the MLB channel? It is a less obscure channel than FS1 and not one we pay extra for.
9:48 pm on October 6th, 2014
Howlers, The trainer that had the sale was Bobby Battaglia, who was big in the Arab horse world. Do you know him? If I remember correctly, Booma was Babson breeding and was probably a Fadl grandson, being born in the mid 60s. Too bad my ex wasn’t as nice as the horse – would have loved to have kept them.
9:49 pm on October 6th, 2014
Rio. It’s not that we didn’t care, we were just worried that we were jinxing the team by watching. We really, really did want tj to win.
9:51 pm on October 6th, 2014
That should be that we wanted them to win. Darn otter whatever.
9:52 pm on October 6th, 2014
SiberH!…Is it the MLBN network?…grunt!…If it is it is not included in someone here’s subscribtion…gasp!
9:53 pm on October 6th, 2014
Teddy!…I believe you pal – tomorrow will be another winning day. Just like today…chuffle!…Although, so far my day has been down the toilet…wheeze!
10:07 pm on October 6th, 2014
CHobbit!…Sounds like your day was a lot like my day…grumpety!grump!
10:07 pm on October 6th, 2014
Rio, I imagine it is the MLBN, but my on-screen guide and the newspaper calls it the MLB channel.
10:16 pm on October 6th, 2014
Rio: Wow, did your day involve found money? Yeep!
Every year Alaskans (men, women, babies) get $$$ from its oil called the Permanent Fund. It various annually in amounts from a low of $331 in 1984 to a high of $2,06 in 2008. This year is on the higher end. Everyone goes out and spends the money which is a great economic stimulus. I’ve always used it to pay bills (a fuel delivery, college tuition, a new set of winter tires, etc.) This year it paid a monthly morgage payment. Whoo Hoo! If only there was a way to register Sadie as a dependent it would mean dog/treatie food for the year.
10:16 pm on October 6th, 2014
MLBN!…sob!sob!sob!..sniff!
10:29 pm on October 6th, 2014
CHobbit!…We here are ready to become Alaskan citizens…yeeep!….We are packed and ready to move into your basement apartment – of course Mother would have to come with us. And Beau. But if Beau is the deal breaker, I could figure something out…heh!heh!
10:40 pm on October 6th, 2014
Siber & Riö: Sob…we don’t get the MLBN channel either…found the Fox Sports 1, but that’s not much help now.
Dawson said she watched on mlb.com.
Speaking of which…Dawson…don’t get sick!
10:42 pm on October 6th, 2014

No Rio. Who in your house is in control and won’t let your friend cook/live in peace?

Rio: does she shovel snow? That is a 6-month job.
Also, my apologies as it is bad form to criticize someone else’s mother. Once you get the $$ signs out of your eyes you will also realize that your friend does not like winter. Remember her response when I invited her to come back for Iditarod? And that was after a wonderful visit to Snowhook Kennel. If she thought it was neat riding a 4-wheeler with dogs running, imagine what it would be with snow and a sled. However, I have not given up to having you both back next March.
Masquers: the $$$ is per person. When I lived up north, for 20 years I was in a rural area where there were big households i.e. 5-7 children per family. So it was quite a windfall. If families were smart, the children would have quite a nest egg at 18 years old. Unfortunately, the money isn’t set aside for the children to claim at age 18. I haven’t done a total of all the years since 1982 but at one point $30,000 had been paid out per person since the inception in 1982.

Oh I am such a bad booty booster. We now have 185 booty dollars available for matching funds. Somewhere along the line of those matching funds there will be prizes. Depending on how or when it will either be the happy donor or the delightful matcher. We are now open for bootie bucks
Bye bye for now.

Sleep, o fickle friend, where hast thou gone?
I repose, yet my brain resteth not.
And I fear the coming of the light of day.
